Cyanogenmod 9 update to Cyanogemod 9.1 OTA? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I update my Samsung Captivate using OTA updater does it keep all my apps and everything in tact? Or does is simply notify me of the update, and I have to apply it manually myself, thus losing all my apps?
Please answer this only if you know for sure.

There is no OTA updater... you have to download the update and flash it through recovery. You don't lose any data in the process.

Considering cyanogenmod added that feature in cm9 it is there. I don't know why your saying there isn't an OTA UPDATER.

You could but you would need to replace CWM recovery with the standard HTC recovery first before you attempted to download and run an OTA update.
The best advice I could give you is wait for the update to come out and then update using a fully rooted version of it so you won't lose root. With almost all of the newest GB updates that HTC has been providing for their different models, they are fixing all known root exploits and applying an OTA will cause you to lose root without a way of getting it back easily.
Thanks alot!!!!

You're surely better off to avoid ota updates and just install custom ROMs, you should be able to get
a close to stock one

Software update received in the middle of the night

I'm running 4.0.4 LRG
rooted
Notecore v7 kernel
My phone downloaded an automatic update in the middle of the night. It says it is a security and bug update. Roughly 24mb.
Should I install it?
Will I lose root?
Since seeing the potential issue with CWM, the last thing I want to do is brick my phone.

In a rooted phone u wont be able to update over the air.... so dont worry about it
To be honest, I was hoping it would include the emmc fix that Samsung says they were working on

i also appeared this update. I have 4.0.4 stock rom with root and notecore v9
Afaik, this is a slight kernel modification, but unfortunately does not address the emmc issue which is still present across all ics stock. Even though you will receive update notifications, if rooted, updates will fail when trying to install.

It will not going to be installed since your device is rooted.

ota update of what??? Dont say u were getting the jb notification. Maybe its ur custom rom update. Most custom roms now support the custom ota.

I had a similar situation once using rocket rom ICS a couple of weeks ago, I booted it up for the first time and just when my finger was about to touch a part of the screen a update notification popped up under my thumb which got pressed :/ dunno what it wanted to update to but I had to stop the update as I was on data. When I was on WiFi I went for manual update and it said that the device was modified and couldn't be updated.
Ditto thats what i did. Not that i care about getting updates anyway just thought it was strange.

I think you arent getting an upgrade notification but a notification for a check to upgrade like

Now what??

I have successfully updated my Moto X to lollipop.. I was would like to root my phone now but I have a question..
If I root my phone now.. How will I get the future updates??
I have rooted my previous phones but there I could get updated roms with updated system version.. But here I don't see any roms..
Thanks in advance.
Sent from the future...
As long as you don't change any of the system files you will get the updates. If you flash other Roms you have to use their updates or flash back to stock to take the update.
