Would it be possible to take an apple app and put it on android some way? I bought an app on my phone, and I would get a little more use if it were on my touch pad. Its not available on the place store. Is it all possible to somehow convert it or something?

No. Or perhaps I should say, not any time soon.
Since posting this, I have found out the app is available on android, and it is like 8 bucks cheaper...

That's not really a surprise they seem to charge a small fortune for all of there products apps included .

So, Launcher Pro + has just been released, and he's charging 3 bucks for it.
This is my question, How do I get it onto my rooted Captivate? I know it's only 3 dollars, but I'd rather know how to get it on before I actually buy it. Know what I mean?
It isn't available in the market yet, so we have to send him a paypal directly.

side load it with droid explorer? That guy did a great job with launcher pro.

Quit being cheap and support a developer that worked hard to make a beautiful piece of software.
As you said, it's only 3 dollars.
This is my first android phone. I promise developers will get my money but you have no reason to call anyone cheap. It was a question. If you have a problem with my questions don't read them.
So, what is droid explorer?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
oh i didnt see that you wanted to know how to do it illegally. Droid explorer is program that helps sideload apps. Just do a search for captivate and droid explorer or look through our sideloading apps threads.
On the piracy note, its not ok to discuss such things here because not only is it morally incorrect but xda has to own up for the activities of its users.
btw, because the new launcher pro + costs money, i highly recommend getting the launcher pro regular. Launcher pro truly shines in its speed and flexibility not its widgets. You can always dl more widgets for free from the marketplace. Ofc i will buy his launcher pro + when it comes to market just on principle because of the great launcher alternative he has provided free of charge for everyone to use.
No I wans buy it but I don't know how to put non market apps on my phone. It is rooted though. Does that help?

sho does, you should pay for it and then he will provide you with an apk to install it with. Droid explorer can take care of the rest. There are other alternatives as well. You should read the sideloading apps threads here in the captivate forums because there is alot of information you should go over b4 attempting and getting frustrated and giving up. Post for help there if you still dont understand after reading through .
Thanks! And just to clear the air, I do not believe in piracy. Developers work too hard on their products. I've paid for most of my programs with Nokia and Apple, just as I will here. I just didn't know how to do it!
I'll look up droid explorer and read that thread. Thanks for the help
Launcher Pro is a mad awesome app. I would pay 10.00 or more for it. I swear my Captivate is TWICE as fast as The iPhone 4 i just returned to At&t.
The dev states it will be in the App market soon, at least thats how I took it from reading his website.

You are being very mean to the poster. He said he doesn't want to buy it if he doesn't know he can use it. You want him to buy it if he can't use it?

I'm stating that he should buy it. If it doesn't work I can almost guarantee that the developer would give him a refund.
Next time you're at a car dealership, steal a car for me so I can drive it for a week.... I want to make sure it "works" with my style of driving before I purchase it..
Launcher Pro in the market is almost exactly the same as the plus version, but without the custom widgets included. Other than that it's the same. No need to steal.
He didnt say anything about pirating it. He said he wants to buy it but is not sure how to install a non market app. He is just doing a little pre purchase research.
Would you buy a car before or after you learned to drive?

Ugh, you think you can get away from Trolls who can't read, or at least piece together what someone says.
Not once did I say I wanted to pirate software. I said that I don't know how to put a non-market app on a device since AT&T will not allow it. So why would I spend my money on something that I can't put on there?
Do you buy 18 inch tires for your 16 inch rims, just because bridgestone makes a good tire? No. Sheesh, just leave me alone SkYz.

Show me where I said I was going to steal it? Go read my first post and explain to me which part meant I was going to try and pirate software. Once you've decided on which part, read the whole post again and figure it out a second time.

Why would you need to do that? You have "paper work" to back you up. You think Paypal is going to refund you for downloading a program that you should have researched if it was compatible with your phone or not? That is what he is trying to do. Next time just give him his answer.
You could have been like "Yes, I have it installed right now."

Why not just install the free version and see if you like it and if so upgrade to the paid version.
Also under settings - applications - unknown sources is where you can install apps from the market that would usually not install. --- Did ATT cripple that in the Captivate??
I have the free version but not the paid one

yup they did, but there's a way to permanently allow non-market apps via editing the .db file and turning the option on

if the free one works, then so will the paid one.
droid explorer gives you access to side load the app once you have downloaded & copied the .apk file to your sdcard.
sorry for all of the posts lol.. also, ADW Launcher works perfect as well, thats the one that i use & is in the market for free
Hopefully this isn't too far off topic. Does anyone know of a good way that my wife and I can share lists between our android and webos phones? I highly prefer both with an app, as opposed to a web version of something. I know you can share lists on remember the milk, but the mobile version of that kinda sucks, and anything other way of maintaining the list is a ridiculous $25 a year.
I would love it if one of us could add milk and shampoo to a list from anywhere, and then be able to update/check that list when we happen to be at a store.
Edit For Clarity: If an app worked the way I'm describing I would be willing to plunk down ~$2 for both phones for the one time app free, it's just that a yearly fee would be a bit much for the stupid lazy thing I want it for
Nvm read post wrong
I hadn't looked at evernote, and it's so close to what I need, but it looks like the one thing I need most, both editing the same list, requires premium access, which is $45 a year. Ouch!
Thanks though.

As a backer I'm very excited to see that they posted sample video of Chameleon running on the Nexus 7.
Can't wait!
Hopefully they add a bunch of different widgets moving forward as that will be what makes or breaks the product I'd think.

same here i learned my lesson with launcher pro i had paid for the key before they got it in market place later on some of those feature were not there for people that bought it earlier dont want to make that mistake again.
I want to buy it but I don't want to buy a separate phone version and a tablet version. Anybody know if it's all going to be one product or are they launching 2 separate purchasable versions?

It's made for tablets... not for phones.
I'm a backer as well. Supposedly they'll be setting up a way for people to download it via the Play Store if you backed them. I'm not sure how that is going to work.

Something to that effect it was in one of their videos/emails

I tried to find a similar case before posting, but i couldn't find anything.
I am using a non-official market app, and after downloading a game, my tablet asked me to install another app called "Frozen Bubble" it was partially in chinese (and didn't look like the original game at all), i rejected to install, and when i checked my "/sdcard/" i realized that there is a "Hack" folder within it had the app that it asked me to install, so i removed it. But as i download new apps, it appears again.
So the question is; can it do anything if i don't install that app, or might that be capable of doing anything at all? Do i need to worry about it? Even after removing the file?
Thanks

Seriously, there are very few games on the play store that cost more than $2-5. Support devs and they'll give us more, and better products.

It's still pretty new but I was wondering what if anybody has seen Android Auto?
What do you think of it?
Do you think it's better/worse than Apple's CarPlay?
It seems pretty cool from a developer's standpoint - you can actually create apps to use in the car!
I've seen demonstrations of both at the Chicago Auto Show. To me, I don't see why you would compare one to the other. I think early adopters that are going to want this at this point in time are well established in the ecosystem of their choice and they are going to pick the one that matches their ecosystem.
Well i just have to say it... The design of carplay is catastrophic compared to auto... There i had to put that out
I haven't seen it in person, but it looks pretty good in my opinion.

I agree that people who are well established in their ecosystems will pick one over there other -- but is that really good for innovation? It seems like we aren't really pushing to develop new interactions but rather trying to shove the same ideas into a car ecosystem... just a thought

The pioneer head unit supports fully both AA and Carplay. Either way, it's a win, win for me. I've been using sync up until now, and unfortunately many of my mobile/auto apps do not work as expected with the new lollipop. So far I am impressed. How developers will use this should be interesting. My phone as always been part of my car so most things are already out there for use, but who knows what other great features have been overlooked and are waiting for creative development.
