As of a few days ago i can no longer use the device while on the charger without losing charge....fast! (ive used the device while charging for the past 9mo).
Same on any kernel, any rom....any of the 3 Samsung batteries I have.
Any ideas?
Is the phone warming up or getting uncomfortably hot? The only thing i could think of is the battery has reched the end of its useful life..
===EDIT===
I was not able to read the last part that you said you tried 3 diff batteries.. LOL my bad..
Mostly it happens when you use incompatible charges (Not the original ones) which doesn't charge battery to its full voltage.
Replace it and check if its solved. If not you can calibrate battery or replace the battery.
Check battery status under settings and see if you have a file running "gpsd". A few times this bug would hit my phone using 63% and drain my battery while charging.
I would have it charge all night to disconnect in the morning and get a warning my battery us low.
To fix I would place my phone in airplane mode, turn off and turn back on, remove airplane mode and it would be back to normal.
Check to see if you have the bug.

Try to install betterbatterystats and check for any wakelocks on your phone. Wakelocks are dreaded battery juice killers. And I agree, turn off your phone at night and in the morning, check back on the BBS what process is working at the background (of your phone).

This problem is occurred to me also. all my devices are original.
this problem was found only when I used stock rom ics 4.0.4, but not found with custom rom as paranoid, cm9, cm10 etc.
try to flash custom rom, you will solve the problem.
Mine has allways done this, whether stock or custom rom. With orginall charger too. I put it down in my case due to being on skype. It also gets vvhot. This is with the original bat.also a samsung spare.

OK I had this problem before, and I solved it by changing charger and clean rom install, I think it is a mix of hardware and software issue, hardware as it is linked with no. Of pin in the charger, I think when the phone discharge while charging the phone see the cable as USB otg so it give it power, any way, change the charger and install any from with trying different kernels

Hi,
I have an SGS GT-I9000 (T-Mobile UK), I had stock ROM 2.1-update1 a week ago (this was my Mum's phone, now mine). As I already have one phone I decided to root this and install CM7 using the latest wiki instructions (Heimdall, ROM Manager) including CWM, this rooted, unlocked, updated.. Of note, my phone does not have the 3BR, I have not yet fixed that with Odin, I have made a 301K Jig. The phone also has a forced upload mode immediately displayed while phone on and pressing Home+Up.
After installing CM7 (phone wasn't fully charged during install, a friend was helping me and it was taking too long to charge again after failing to unlock the network via adb for some time) the battery was not full, I used the phone for a while and plugged in later. The problem is that it got to ~54% and didn't move for an hour or so, battery would quickly drop a percent or two again. At this point the iPod wall socket displaying as "charging (USB)" in About.
I reset the battery stats in CWM which did nothing to the current battery level reading of 54%. I flattened the battery with GPS, speaker, WiFi tether, etc. got to 1% then turned off after a while, would not turn on again. So I charged with an HTC wall charger, which forces the phone to be fully awake thanks to CM7, also showing AC as the source this time, but although the battery quickly reached 10% and 30%, it did not pass 66% after more than 12 hours charging.
I am happy with the usage (~day) I get from this phone, but I would like it to say 100% occasionally.
I will flatten the battery again, then plug in to switch on, followed immediately by reboot into recovery (an option in CM), then I will leave it over night ~7-8 hours charging in recovery, and perform another stats wipe. I have read that without 3BR I may never get my phone on again (low bat boot loop) if it gets too flat, I hope that doesn't happen (didn't last time, before I read that).
Any help?
Also, there is one other thread about never fully charging: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780340 but the OP says that it displays 100% but keeps on charging anyway.
Just run it through a full charge cycle 2 or 3 times, its just lost is head,it comes back,...........im on insanity cm 022.....happened to me

Still not charging
Hi, thanks for your advice, I have now completed several full cycles and with patience I am getting 100%. The problem still exists though, it take 24-26 hours to charge from 0 to 100% even with flight mode on for half of that time, longer if not. I am using an AC charger (as recognised in the battery menu). I do get about 12 hours of light usage from the phone, but will lose the first 10% while browsing the internet even while still plugged in.
Any further advice would be greatly appreciated. (I have tried a couple of different wires and plugs, some say USB, others AC).
S
P.S. I am considering finding a stock ROM and fixed 3BR partition and reverting back to a better than before stock, unlocked, unrooted system.

Baring in mind that batteries never charge to 100% dude even when it says it has, this is a safety feature to prevent over charging and exploding batteries, I'd go through the cycle again, let your battery go dead, try switching it on to make sure the batteries dead, then whilst off, charge your phone till full, then unplug and plug in again to make sure its full, then if its full boot immediately into recovery and delete battery stats, repeat these steps another 2-3 times bud

Cheers, I can't charge with the phone off though, another reason for going back to stock maybe (or removing clockworkmod). I would have expected batteries to trail off near the limits, but the charge rate is fairly consistent throughout. I shall keep cycling the battery and resetting the stats though, so far no improvement, it's just an inconvenience to be without a phone every other day.
I know the feeling bud and I know its tedious, but keep at it and it should get better pretty soon so long as you stick to the cycle

Having the same problem with my Samsung tab!
Hi rock2702,
How were you able to solve your Galaxy Tab charging problem?
maybe he deleted the batterystats or installed betterbatterystats
Or (re)installed a custom ROM.
What was your solution if you don't mind?
well, this is how i solved it...
if it's rooted...
use battery calibrator....
or keep tab switched off for 4 hours or so...and then connect it to charger while switched off
if this also doesn't help then after connecting to charger while it's still off you can see a battery icon charging...simultaneously press switch on button and touch the screen ....if on aokp rom your tab will instantly reboot as i've noticed....if on stock rom which i was on when this thing happened to me....your tab will show a black screen and then again the battery charging icon shoots up....
One of the above things worked for me....i was enjoying my vacations when i encountered this problem and so i cannot remember exactly which of these things worked....
Hit thanks if i've helped..
Battery Not Charging
Well i don't know much about this, but it happen also on my SGT7 P1000 tab. What was notice is, if Usage (mA) value is below zero/negative value during charger plug-in. the battery won't charge. What i do is to turn off the screen an leave the tab on that mode, then battery charging start to increase.
Any one can give explaination on this situation?

The battery in our phone is faulty...this is whats i heard...
But this problem is due to faulty battery stats..
If this problem never happened again then you are quite lucky
I had noticed that the battery increases but after an increase of 20% it again stops.....
But the solutions I gave worked fully without any probs...

my same issue....
is caused by not using original samsung wall charger...when i use a different brand charger, none of my tabs charge unless i turn them off. i purchased extra one from samsung just in case my original breaks or gets lost. Cable is hard to find made by anyone besides samsung (RETAIL). In fact, most samsung accessories are easier to find online than in stores....I think rooting and using different roms affects the way tab reacts to the charger. thats my 2 cents.

Yes, we must use the original charger but the problem stated above clearly shows that it's due to faulty battery stats......
If you have noticed this......charge the battery to full 100% and then notice the battery stats it spontaneously drops down to 99% in a sec....that's due to our battery stats I guess..
Again keep battery on overnight charging...sometimes this happens...
The battery drops down from 99 to 1 % and then you have to restart phone and battery stats are back to 99...that's a battery stats prob

For some time to time since CM9 (1 time each month maybe) my tablet does not charge anymore with any chagrer, I tried restock, tried a lot of thing but the only thing that seems to work is charge it on usb of a computer (low speed charge) up to full charge (a night) which is in my case 99%.
Most of time it fixes the problem untill it happen again, but enerally It's ok for weeks.
I've got two GT7 and only one seems to have this problem with the same rom on it, so I think it is device related.
Hope this help
The charging problem is here the same...
With screen off i could load battery over night yesterday to 100%... plug th charger of and battery drops down to 46%.
Will try the usb loading with pc at work now
My GT-N7000 yesterday developed this issue:
When I boot it (no USB cable to power it), the battery shows empty (grep battery icon, with a charging circle).
A second or so later, it switches to show a half-full battery, with charging dots below. and it vibrates for about a second.
Again, another second ro so later it goes back to showing an empty battery and the cycle continues.
If I attach a UCB charging cable, it boots fine, shows the battery as 100%
If I remove the charging cable, it loses power. When switched on again, this all starts over.
I saw this on ICS (4.0.4, stock, German) and there i also had the battery icon in normal more switching between
charging and blinking to not charging. I found a recommendation that upgrading might help, so I
did apply the JB update I had downloaded a few days ago, but this does happen
under JB too (OTA German 4.0.4, then flashed with Phil's-stock plus cwn6)
Is there anything can can be done? Is this a hardware issue or something that some form of total reset might cure?
As it is, I cannot use the phone w/o having it externally powered through my powerbank or car charger.
This happens with two batteries, so it's not the battery that is broken
I really think this one is battery problem as I have experienced the same thing..
are the batteries you tested New?
just my 2 cents.

No, I've had both a fow a while.
I may buy a third just to test but I fear I may have to get a replacement phone soon , sniff
Though I would suggest that you get a new set of batteries...they solved the problem for me.
While you are at it, please search the forum for another solution that worked for me- "cleaning the micro-usb slot"...its an easy process but needs to be done a little carefully.
either of the two would definitely work for you...speaking from experience!

Bro..i had the same problem..this morning, when the phone showed 100% in charged mode..as soon as i unplugged the charger..the charging %age goes down to 15% immedietly.. i went and bought a new charging port(only that usb charging port = very small),removed the old usb port and soldered the new usb port to the note..This works like charm..but this probably void the warranty ..so,if u want..its upto u..i wont recommend it but it works like charm for me

Hi, I have some serious issue regarding my galaxy note.
I have my phone standby this afternoon and out of nowhere, it died on it's own. I tried to bring it back on but it always die after boot. I plugged in my charger and it can work like normal. When I plugged my charger out, it turn off on it's own after several minutes. I tried to boot into CWM and it not died on its own. I tried to reflash the ROM, full wipe, restore, but no use. It always dies after galaxy note wording screen. I'm desperate for any other explanation possible, since I know it's not dying in CWM mode, so it shouldn't be a battery problem?
I use avatar ROM 3.13 nightly by the way. I have tried reflashing and full wipe.
Thank you for the help.

Does the screen flicker when it dies?
Did you overclock/underclock/undervolt it?
Does it get hot?
The battery does sound like the prime suspect.

Yes sometimes it flicker when it dies. But I haven't overclock / undervolt it. No it does not get hot. I'm considering to buy a new battery but if it's not the main cause it'll be a waste of money. Thanks for the attention
Even i think its because of the battery.. but be on stock rom for a few days and monitor the behavior or phone and decide.
It definitely sounds like its the battery.
Or maybe the charging circuit (You will need an external charger)
The next step would be trying another battery.
Been there, battery was it for me with the flickering before turning off itself.

Hi,
I have scoured through the forums and googled for many days, I was not able to find the definite answer to solve my problem. The problem appears to be that the battery doesn't charge up, however, many signs show otherwise, I would like to ask if anyone here knows which part of the phone actually does the battery voltage sensing.
Firstly, I have tried charging my phone while it is switched off, several hours of charging only yields 10+% of charge. Secondly, I tried changing the battery of the phone, makes no difference. All these was done with different USB chargers and different charging cables. Then, I tried rooting and unlocking it and flashing cyanogenmod, problem still exists. Lastly, I tried flashing the same firmware version once and then a different firmware, still does not solve the problem.
Some things that led me to believe that it might be the fault of the battery voltage sensing circuit component of the phone are that when the phone is in recovery mode, I can unplug the charging cable and the phone does not power down. However, when the phone boots normally into android, the battery indicator would appear as 0% and unplugging the cable would shut down the phone.
BTW, my phone's warranty is already up. Is there anyone that has the same problem or some solutions to this problem? Thank you in advance.
JM

I dont think calibration is the problem since he fleshed CM and other roms and atill have battery problem.I think you should try to remove batery from device and charge it on separate charger. If that doesnt help you will need new battery.

Hi,
I have already bought a new battery but it still doesn't charge up. Would it be due to other hardware failures?
Well that is unfortunate but it appears so. except if you didn't do full system wipe before flashing other roms.Did you?

Have you tryed cleaning the charging port out mine was full of dirt and had same problem.
battery life
I turned the phone off took battery out and then used a needle and managed to get fluff and dirt out of the port which I didn't see until I shined a torch in. But you have to be carful not to damage anything. I also had a problem with my phone only charging to 92% that ended up been cause it wasnt a geniune lead. cheers and good luck
