Hi, I have some serious issue regarding my galaxy note.
I have my phone standby this afternoon and out of nowhere, it died on it's own. I tried to bring it back on but it always die after boot. I plugged in my charger and it can work like normal. When I plugged my charger out, it turn off on it's own after several minutes. I tried to boot into CWM and it not died on its own. I tried to reflash the ROM, full wipe, restore, but no use. It always dies after galaxy note wording screen. I'm desperate for any other explanation possible, since I know it's not dying in CWM mode, so it shouldn't be a battery problem?
I use avatar ROM 3.13 nightly by the way. I have tried reflashing and full wipe.
Thank you for the help.

Does the screen flicker when it dies?
Did you overclock/underclock/undervolt it?
Does it get hot?
The battery does sound like the prime suspect.

Yes sometimes it flicker when it dies. But I haven't overclock / undervolt it. No it does not get hot. I'm considering to buy a new battery but if it's not the main cause it'll be a waste of money. Thanks for the attention
Even i think its because of the battery.. but be on stock rom for a few days and monitor the behavior or phone and decide.
It definitely sounds like its the battery.
Or maybe the charging circuit (You will need an external charger)
The next step would be trying another battery.
Been there, battery was it for me with the flickering before turning off itself.

Did you get the same case? Apparently it's battery. I'll need to replace it and see.
Battery battery battery many threads out there with the same topic. New battery will fix your problem. Pull out battery and see if it is swollen

As of a few days ago i can no longer use the device while on the charger without losing charge....fast! (ive used the device while charging for the past 9mo).
Same on any kernel, any rom....any of the 3 Samsung batteries I have.
Any ideas?
Is the phone warming up or getting uncomfortably hot? The only thing i could think of is the battery has reched the end of its useful life..
===EDIT===
I was not able to read the last part that you said you tried 3 diff batteries.. LOL my bad..
Mostly it happens when you use incompatible charges (Not the original ones) which doesn't charge battery to its full voltage.
Replace it and check if its solved. If not you can calibrate battery or replace the battery.
Check battery status under settings and see if you have a file running "gpsd". A few times this bug would hit my phone using 63% and drain my battery while charging.
I would have it charge all night to disconnect in the morning and get a warning my battery us low.
To fix I would place my phone in airplane mode, turn off and turn back on, remove airplane mode and it would be back to normal.
Check to see if you have the bug.

Try to install betterbatterystats and check for any wakelocks on your phone. Wakelocks are dreaded battery juice killers. And I agree, turn off your phone at night and in the morning, check back on the BBS what process is working at the background (of your phone).

This problem is occurred to me also. all my devices are original.
this problem was found only when I used stock rom ics 4.0.4, but not found with custom rom as paranoid, cm9, cm10 etc.
try to flash custom rom, you will solve the problem.
Mine has allways done this, whether stock or custom rom. With orginall charger too. I put it down in my case due to being on skype. It also gets vvhot. This is with the original bat.also a samsung spare.

OK I had this problem before, and I solved it by changing charger and clean rom install, I think it is a mix of hardware and software issue, hardware as it is linked with no. Of pin in the charger, I think when the phone discharge while charging the phone see the cable as USB otg so it give it power, any way, change the charger and install any from with trying different kernels

My galaxy ace is totaly crazy now.
I took it from charger, after 20 minutes it 50%, after 5 minutes i get warning and it reboots. After booting it show me warning and again reboot. After 5-10 times it just blinking. I cant go into recovery or even turnt it of.
I pull out battery, wait a minute, insert back. Then I connect charger and boot device...and the battery is 100%! what is going on?
i've already:
re-flashed 3 firmwares
cleaned battery stats
here you can see how big is battery drain and a fact that battery is nearly 100% after connecting charger.

Hard to know but it could be that the voltage from the battery is so low or fluctuating so much that the power switch is unable to function.
Similar to your TV remote where you sometimes need to jiggle the batteries slightly to make it work properly.
The first thing I would try and rule out is the battery... it's a relatively easy and inexpensive fix if that's the problem (ebay is your friend).

Don't excessively flash ROMs
revert to Stock ROM for the timebeing
And don't Delete/wipe battery stats because after every successful 100% charge the battery_Stats.bin file gets deleted and regenerated.
so deleting that bin file wont help
next, check if the contacts of your battery are intact and that they are not covered with dust
when you connect the charger cable to your phone then check if the cable is properly inserted or not,if no then insert it properly
If none of this solves your problem then i must say mate that you need to change the battery.
are you sure that it is a battery problem? :-?

I can take that into consideration but the analogy you gave doesn't seem to be that convincing. Sometimes it may be due to the unclean android system that causes all this & I best know how it drained my battery in less than 30 minutes but I still use the same & it lasts a day now. But it may even be the battery or may be anything else. Who knows? !:screwy:
@OP : Try a full wipe & a reflash. If that doesn't help, go to the sammies or buy a new battery.

Hello, I have a problem with my Galaxy S Advance; I reinstall the system with Pure Vanilla ROM (I had JellyMod before) and now I have getting problems with battery.
When I charge the phone when it is awake, it won't charge, the only way to charge it is to turn the phone off so it begin to charge, and then I'm able to turn on the phone with the cable plugged in. But when I unplug it when the charge is over, the icon on the phone is stuck to 100%, it only shows the real battery amount left when I restart it.
Besides, now my battery drains really fast, during the night, it can drains to 40 to 0% in 8 hours.
Does someone knows what the problem is?
Try battery caliberation
I will sugest another rom like harsh jelly with cocore.

You could try to take your battery out to see if something is wrong
Or, after all the options above didn't help to solve the problem, then you should consider changing your battery
I tried battery calibration, but no results. And I already took the battery out, but nothing more happens.
But I noticed that with Better Battery Stats there's a process that is always awake in the kernel wakelock section, "ab8500_charger_attached_lock". Could this be the problem?
No one knows if I can delete the "ab8500_charger_attached_lock", and if there is a way?
Well, I found the solution, if anybody has this problem; the usb connecter was the cause: the metallic part in the center seemed close to one other and even when the phone wasn't charging, it made it think like it was. So I just took a knife and straightened it up and now everything is back to normal.

You are my Savior!!for a week my phone has been broken,i wanted to repair at repair shop
but i saw your method and it works!!
I have tab s 8.4 lte model. Got it new. I was getting 3-4 hours of screen timing which was ****,
I did the back cover removal procedure and disconnected and reconnected the battery connector to see if it fixes the problem.
I then started tne device and draimed the battery to 0%. I then connected charger and charged the tab for over 5 hours. Just now i saw that it showed 100% charged.
I removed the charger and switched the tab on and it says 1% battery...WTFFFFF???
I connected charger again and now it says 9% left.
WHAT IS HAPPENING?? CAN SOMEONE PLS HELP ME?
Its probably not reading the battery correctly. Have you tried recalibrating and drain and chargeing it for like a couple times?

Im guessing your rooted. Well go into the play store and search for battery recalibrate. Pick one and install. Then follow what it siads to do and it should clear your battery stats. Now about the charging, i had a phone that didnt go above 50percent charge. So what I did is let it drain completely till it cannot turn on with the power button. Now just use a different charger or somesort and let it charge fully and dont turn it on till its at 100 percent. Then try and turn it on without the charger and see if it reads correctly.

Check your battery stats. See if "media server" or "indexservice" is in a high percentage. Turn it off. Tha saps the battery more faster than Sylvester says "suffering sukatash!"
Heavy usage results into 4 hours batt average
If all else fails looks like you have a faulty battery
HI... How things athithi going on? Can't you replace by your self the battery? Someone knows where to buy an OEM battery?
My 8.4 battery is doing really weird things.
It'll be at say 34% and then plummet to 5% and shutdown.
So i plug it in, and the battery meter icon will pop up saying theres 25% battery available!.
I turn on the tablet and use it normally again. Very odd/
i had this issue once , the battery went crazy , auto reboot after a few minutes, then i went to customer service and they said that this issue was common :v They fixed the battery connector and it was normal again :v
Download battery monitor, this is probably the most comprehensive battery app available. It will tell you if your battery is actually charging and not just the phone detecting the charger being plugged in. It measures mah, if this doesn't change then the battery isn't charging

I left my phone overnight with low battery, the next morning, the phone can't be turned on with only red led charging, very similar to Xperia Z's sudden death.
First day, I was able to charge it and power it up to the CM boot animation.
Then I wasn't able to charge it, however can enter fastboot mode, but not flash mode.
The first night, somehow I can charge it and I left it charged over night.
Second day, out of nowhere, I can enter flashmode for once, but cannot flash any .ftf because some errors with loader.sin. After I unplugged my phone, I can't enter flashmode back again.
And now, whenever I plugged in my phone to wall charger/laptop usb, my phone red led is blinking for about 3s and then off for about 30s. Can't enter flashmode/fastboot whatever...
Is this the sudden death like other xperia z? But I've left my phone battery went to 0% several times before and I never had this problem until now....
Someone please share your thoughts and help me in this.
Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

I didn't flash ROM because the device can't even bootup (ought to be kernel fault or some other unknown problems)

Hmm. Try replacing the battery, maybe? Highly unlikely to work, but I got nothing else. I brick my phone on an almost weekly basis, and I've never come across a problem like yours. ?
I think so too. may be battery has past its life. or could be kernel issue. If you able to flash stock kernel or any other then are you not able to power on keeping the phone connected to charger instead of powering up on battery?

Currently I kept plugging in my phone, hoping for that just one time that it might be connected in flash mode, then I can flash a stock kernel+ROM to try out.
On another note, from what I see, it might not be battery issue because I can't boot up the phone on charger without battery. I'm supposed to be able to do that right?

See if your battery's shape is changed or not i.e it is curved.
Normally battery is flat and you cannot spin it on a smooth flat surface. This is a good sign and your battery is in good condition
But if you battery is spinning then it is little bit curved so chemicals inside are not able to create reaction need to power the battery. It won't even last 10 mins even After 3 hrs of charging.
What I think is, your battery is damaged, when you go into fastboot or flashmode your battery dies!
Typical condition in humid climate!
Just another suggestion

Battery sides should be flat if you keep on a table or a flat surface. If you try to spin the battery and it spins then there is a swollen bulge in the middle which suggests that battery has gone bad. The chemicals inside are leaking. You must change the battery before it explodes while charging and totally damage phone circuit and might do some harm to you to.
I removed the battery and tried to power up the phone while connected to wall charger but I couldnt which means ZR cant be powered up without battery.

Thanks for confirming that ZR can't be powered up without battery, makes me more confident that it is battery issue.
Will look for battery replacement and come back here with results.
Thanks.
Dear All,
Thank you for all the thoughts, suggestions and solutions.
I managed to find a replacement battery for my ZR and it can be powered up again. Hence all my described issues are due to bad battery.
However my ZR now experiences weird issues after back from grave, like WiFi downlink shoots to max for unknown reasons and random reboots (especially on WiFi, random reboots even happens while charging power off). Prime suspects are: 1. I didn't charge my new battery up to 8 hours before use; 2. I kinda broke my kernel or ROM in my previous attempt to revive my phone.
I'm going to reflash my kernel and ROM, and charge my phone overnight. Will let you guys know if everything is fine.
Thank you so much.

I think its a ROM/Kernel issue coz you won't need to charge a Li-ion battery for long time before first use..it should be done for Nickel Cadmium batteries and not for li-ion..so that might not be the issue

I reflashed my kernel/ROM but still getting random auto shutdown.
Now I can't even boot into my ROM, because the first thing I see before my homescreen is "Powering Down".
Trying to flash the latest nightly.
Any known cause for auto shutdown?
