GalaxyS i9001 CM9 WiFi Problems - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, i Figured somethings wrong with CM9.0 alpha7 for the i9001 and that's something i've searched loooooooooooong enough to understand actually NO ONE has had this problem.First i had alpha 4 and with some searching in these forums i figured alpha 4 had wifi problems entirely. Then i downloaded alpha7........ thought my problems would go away but............. when doa clean install without the SIM inside my wifi works pretty good, but the moment i turn my phone off, insert SIM,and enter the PIN, my wifi...like,disappears on it's own.NOTHING WORKS!!!! i'm desperate to keep CM9.i even tried to wipe cache and dalvik cache and fix the permissions inside ROM MANAGER and form CWMR........NOTHING!!!! even got that dhcpcd fix thing that someone had posted, didn't work. and it's not just my home's wifi,i can't connect anywhere!tried rewriting wpa_supplicant file and the other stuff related to wifi(can't remember)with that wifi fix .zip fil manually, by flashing, using the files on other ROMs,NOTHINGGGGGGGG! WiFi only works with a clean reinstall of the ROM and WITHOUT SIM inserted. even tried with a SIM that had no PIN, same thing. i even downloaded AOKP,flashed, doesn't even boot.i don't wanna go around downloading every ics ROM i see so PLEASE give me a fix!!!

i downloaded the one that says older wifi driver
and now i can turn on the wifi it just says unable to detect wifi? i think then turns off.
i tried reflashing (with wiping out everything) to cm 6.1 then back to nx sense about 5 times..
wont work..
any other suggestion
how do i use ODIN to go back to stock Like Completely / wiping out everything
because i came from Galaxy S, and when i used Odin to go to froyo (internation galaxy s ver) then odin back to 2.1 (US galaxy s version) it fixed the problems that reflashing couldnt fix.

[Q] wifi error / sd not mounting

G1 wifi has stopped working and has 'error' listed underneath wifi option in wireless setting...
Also, the sd card doesn't mount... what's worse is this problem is intermittent..
I'm currently using FroyobyLaszlo 5 and the problems are both still here.. I was using cm6.1 for awhile and eventually tried a couple other roms, but the wifi error and sdcard problem carry over thru each flash. I forget which rom i flashed to where the wifi function broke.. I've flashed back to the cm6.1 2708port nandroid backup I saved (which was the last working rom where I had working wifi) and still the wifi error! I've tried a few different kernels as well and still nothing..
Can somebody help me get these fixed?? ..thanks
hboot - 1.33.0013d
radio - 2.22.28.25
recovery RA-dream-v1.7.0
UPDATE 1: I began to re-flash the original tmobile nbh image in order to restore the phone and start all over again, but now I'm stuck with that image flashed and can't access fastboot on the phone anymore.. The phone probably needs to be re-rooted now, but I can't access wifi (which means I can't sign in to google in order to get to the phone's desktop and then perform the root procedure).. Now I can't flash anything!! HELP plz???
hboot - 0.95.0000
radio - 1.2.12.29
UPDATE 2 - Ok, I got everything (hboot 1.33.0013d , radio 2.22.28.25, laszlo 5.1 rom) flashed back to the G1 again, but the wifi error persists and so does the intermittent sd card issue.. I think the sd card problem may be hardware related..sometimes It'll work for a minute after I remove the card and re-insert it, then it'll stop working again..
*edit* Can someone or has someone already made a patch to disable the function of that little trigger inside the micro sd card reader on the g1?? That little switch that pushes in when u close the sd card cover.. Apparently, this might cause my sd card to not function, so I figured that somebody may have made a patch to disable this and make the sd card work outright without that little button inside needed..
First, try a SuperWipe. Sometimes junk gets left around even after a wipe through recovery that causes very weird problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834812
I haven't heard of a patch to do that. It might not even be possible if it is implemented in hardware. You could try opening the phone and modify it to always keep that trigger closed, as a last resort.

ok i'm gonna try to flash superwipe2 but atm the sd card isn't readable even in recovery, so I'm gonna have to play around and hope I get lucky and the sd mounts in order for me to flash superwipe... if/when it happens, i'll post an update..
finally managed to superwipe AND re-flash laslo 5.1..
the g1 still has the wi-fi 'error' and of course the sd only works intermittently.. I lost count how many re-boots and how many times i re-inserted the microSD card until i finally got it to work long enough to flash it this time
so what files are involved in the wifi anyway?? Can I manually replace a driver perhaps?... or something?!?
The wifi kernel module is located at "/system/lib/modules/wlan.ko". This really sounds like a hardware problem if it is occurring in recovery too. Have you tried ROMs other than laslo? Try a stable CyanogenMod or BiffMod ROM.

thnx , I'll read up on this..
and also, I've used cm6.1, 2708port cm 6.1, and sparksmod rom 2.. i had biffmod installed for like a minute or so before i switched to something else due to the wfi error.. maybe i could try it again, I can't remember if there was something else wrong with biffmod or not, but I do know the wifi issue carries over thru different roms.. pretty much on all these roms I've experienced lag, fc's, broken apps, battery drain, and now the wifi problem and sdcard problem..

so can I download and replace the wifi kernel module with any one I can find? or does it need to be a specific one? I still need to fix wifi... thnx
No, the wifi kernel module has to be built specifically for kernel. You can try flashing a different kernel (with a wifi module) though. Here are some to try:
2.6.35.11 by Pershoot: http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=1563
2.6.34.8 by ezterry: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11565574&postcount=670

for 2.6.35.11 pershoot, I get the 'failed' error when flashing thru recovery.. i used the nfs_32b_radio2708.zip
for 2.6.34.8, I've flashed and rebooted and still the same wifi error =(
Is the "wifi module" already included in each kernel zip?? Or do I need that too??
thnx

Read through the whole post again. That isn't the kernel.

It is included with the kernel.
a user on another forum posted "Could you guys check if your wlan kernel module is loaded? Open up the terminal emulator, then su to root and run 'lsmod'?
For me, I get 3 modules now: wlan, ramzswap and ipv6.
When it was broken for me, I didn't have wlan."
well I don't have wlan listed either, even though i have the wlan.ko file in /system/lib/modules...
EDIT: finally got 2.6.35.11 flashed and installed, but still same wifi error =(
I have just developed this problem as well...on one of 7 phones. I have taken it back to 29 on 2 ocassions, bringing it back to ezterrys gingerbread. at 29 I get wifi error.... at cm6.1 I get wifi error....and at GB also get wifi error. Looking in logs, I see (in RED) 00:00 00:00:00.000 E/WiFi Service (132) on next line (also in RED) Failed to Load Wi-Fi driver.
Reading thru these forums..I see a few folks having this same error....but no one seems to have a fix.
Can anyone shed some light on this topic...
Thanks a million.

[Q] Wifi & battery issues on imilka's cm9

Hi folks,
I can't post in the dev section so I'm hoping someone can answer here instead. Searched imilka's thread but couldn't find anything that helped me. Wipe & reflash has worked for others but not me.
Wifi doesn't work for me. It worked when I activated it in the setup wizard after flashing the rom but after the first reboot it doesn't present me with any networks and it doesn't connect to the one I configured. I know the wifi device works because the mac address is identified in the status menu.
Also, battery time isn't very good. Less than half remains after being fully charged then left alone over night.
I have tried a full wipe & re-flash and also flashed the last version released yesterday. Does anyone have any tips or do I just wait for a new version? Seems weird that it works for everyone else.

Indeed, I didn't come accross any of these problems... I don't know what to say mate, might have something to do from whatever ROM you came from, some kernel remnants...but again, that's just guessing...
What I'd do in a situation like this would be to revert to a stock GB, use jBroid's kernel cleaner, and then try to reflash Chainfire's repack and back to CM. That's just what I'd do...
I'd try to do a factory reset first. That way you'll get another chance to setup your WiFi from scratch and see what transpires. If it fails, it's back to basics, most probably. Rooted GB --> ICS Repack --> CM9.
It's such a hassle to reinstall everything again.
I'm downloading a stock rom now and I'm going to try flashing the modem partition. Perhaps the modem in the chainfire repack I flashed before is not 100% compatible with my phone... Otherwise I'll just have to stick to mobile data.
Flashing modem made no difference so it's something with the ROM. Luckily I have a good data plan so I'll just leave it and see what happens in the versions to come. If anyone has an idea, feel free to let me know.
And thanks for your answers guys.
Suddenly it all works. Thank you Google. You're swell!

Networks detected but will not register

So I had some escapades today, I had my SGS running jellybean, then I tried to change the screen density and bang, bootloop. I panicked and after some odin fiddling managed to get it booting Darky using odin. I was in a room with no signal at the time so I thought nothing of not having any signal, even so I then went ahead and used recovery to reinstall my Jellybean rom since that's a bit nicer than the 2.3 Darky.
Long and the short of it is, I can search for networks in my options and it will find them, but when I tell it to connect to one it says "Can't connect to this network right now. Try again later"
I have tried later and surprise surprise it didn't work. I have tried installing a different radio, clearing the dvalik cache and fixing permissions as well as a few other things. Please can anyone suggest something, this seems to be a very uncommon scenario and it's stressing me out that I can't find any solutions.

Yeah I've checked them and unfortunately they all seem to be in order still, though there are a lot more settings than any website offers things to put in them
same problem
i am having this same problem on all cyanogenmod 7,9,10. i have tried many radio and modem flashes. i can scan and see networks, but i can never connect to them.
have you made any progress?
Problem is EFS folder which tends to do with IMEI.
To fix it you need to copy the backup EFS folder from your SDCARD to the root of your device. (/)
If you don't have a backup you'll have to ODIN back to stock and re-root....etcetera
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda app-developers app
thx
thank you for the response. I put it back to stock lastnight before bed so i will give this a try.
i have the gti9000m from bell in canada. I updated it through kies to 2.3.3 gingerbread and it all went badly. It would boot up and load to the os be on for a bit then reset. It turned out to be wifi problem, running it on airplane mode stopped it from rebooting. Then if i tried to turn on wifi it would quickly reboot.
So then i tired all the cyanogenmods, which worked it stopped rebooting all the time. however the wifi would connect and work for about a minute then it would drop. doing the
1.turnOn gps
2.turnOn wifi
3. turnOff gps
this would let the wifi work again for about a minute. I tried all the wifi fixer apk, and a bunch of wifi.zip mods, and then ping the router gateway constantly, none solved this problem. Very annoying because i need the wifi working for develpoment of apps. I have spent a great many hours on this problem. lots of people seam to have this problem but no solutions have wokred for me.
So, my questions are....
1. does your wifi work?
2. how the heck do i get mine to work?
back to stock
After going back to stock then upgrading connecting to network operators is fine.
wifi is still broken though

Please share wifi root folder structure

Hy, please i need someone to share his wifi root folder structure, screenshot and even better files/folders from
"/etc/wifi",
"/data/misc/wifi",
"/system/bin/wpa_suplicant",
"/data/.cid.info",
"/system/etc/wifi",
"lib/modules/dhd.ko",
"system/lib/modules/dhd.ko"
with root explorer or any kind explorer that show permisions&owner rights.
I need this information because i have trouble with wifi not turning on just trying to turn on(gray icon) and immediatly turn off.
I tried everything , let me share what i did:
-turn off and on the phone
-remove battery for 1 minute
-clear cache, dalvik cache
-factory reset from CWM
-factory reset from phone
-nandroid restore
-flash again 4.1.2 for 4-5 times (different stock roms with different kernels)
-flash custom rom ( different kernels)
-restore again data from nandroid
I managed to work wifi at one moment but at first restart i loosed wifi, so after i read a lot of forums, tricks i de
decied to flash again 4.1.2 ( bad move from me) and let KIES update my phone to 4.3. ( i read this thing on one forum and that guys said managed to work his wifi) but nothing happened.
Then i do the same thing like before on 4.1.2 : power off , clear cache, factory reset, flash again, etc.........
At one moment the wifi managed to work but for 5-10 minutes after that nothing.
Im very sure is not a hardware problem, more software problem kernel + modem or anything else.
Phone is GT-I9305/ TGP ver 18.10/ Agni pure stock 3.8
So please, please someone help me with that info.
I added and Logcat from Catlog just with wifi,
is the wifi module dead or have bad driver?
come on guys nobody wants to helpe me?
UP! i missing and the files from "data/misc/dhcp"

Hi. I have the same problem.
Did you solve it anyhow?
Unfortunately I could not solve the problem alone and I resolved to a service center where we changed the wifi chip because it was broken.

Now i don't need files anymore, aparently was not a software problem was a hardware problem.
