WiFi Problem with LANIGHT - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been through four roms and managed to try each one out successfully. I've had issues, but none too difficult to figure out. I tried this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867484
And am having the WiFi problem some of the other posters outlined. I can't post on the forum because I don't have enough posts. I'm coming from the lastest Helly Bean build (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783064). I followed the instructions (as much as possible from my version of recovery). I wiped data 3 times, wiped cache, wiped dalvik cache, cleared init.d and NSTools then installed it. Wifi gets stuck on "turning on wifi" and remains there, even after restarting. I attempted to reinstall the rom 3 times, it had the same problem each time. Finally gave up and went back to Helly Bean.
Gonna check out a couple other JB roms in the meantime, but I was hoping that one would work since people attest to the speed!
UPDATE: Put RemICS JB v2.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625619) on it and it works like a charm now. Still wouldn't mind trying out LANIGHT, but did anyone ever figure out how to fix the wifi issue?

I have the same problem coming from the latest helly bean. I flashed LANIGHTv2 5 times already and still have problems with the wifi. I tried coming from X-bean, which the wifi works perfectly, but still no dice. I have not one clue on how to fix the wifi.

Spent very little time on LANIGHT but I was reading their thread earlier and they've done a different build with a different kernel. It seems the one persone with the wifi issue that stuck around the thread(or could post) had success with the new build using a different kernel.

Which kernel are you using? I flashed the devil kernel today and followed the 2nd set of instructions and flashed the Lanight v2 nodatadata version. Everything including wifi has worked for me.

I am having an issue with WIFI on my LANIGHT 6.0 NDD. Wifi works fine for me except when I use airplane mode. When using airplane mode wifi will not turn on unless I enable Bluetooth. This use to work correctly in 4.2 DD. Is this a known issue or is their a fix for this.
I am using the "stock" kernel which comes with 6.0 NDD.

No wifi issues here on the latest v6.5_DATADATA. Using the Devil kernel.

Make a clean flash. Wipe all, install rom, reboot, wipe cache , dalvik cache, flash new kernel. Maybe left some settings from older roms or kernels
Sent from Galaxy S ICS

thanks for your answer!, but i tried all those steps. But with no succes
Strange part of the story is, that wi-fi allways worked on my phone, also with ICS, but with newer versions or something, it goes wrong
For what it is worth - I also had the wifi toggling problem on the last 2 ROMS that I tried:
Slim_ICS_sgs_2.6.zip
aokp_galaxysmtd_build-25-be18.zip
The problems started exactly a week ago.
I ended moving back to Slim_ICS_2.5.zip where everything works OK.
From what I understand the problem is limited to a small number of users...
I am wondering if it might not be related to recent changes in the source code (both of the above ROMS are compiled from source).
I am however very curious why some people are impacted (with the wifi toggling issue) and others are not. Maybe it is related to their LOCALs (mine is FR/fr) and/or regions... just a thought. All comments welcome!
The problem line is that I am going to sit on the fence for awhile and see if something needs to (or will) be changed at source level.

Wifi not turning on after installing Helly Bean v10

I recently installed Helly Bean v10 ROM by Devil for Captivate as instructed in the post. After installation my wifi is not turning on. It just stays in the "turning wifi on" screen and does not proceed to show me the available wifi networks etc.
I then went ahead and re-wiped and re installed the ROM but the problem persists.
I did not have any such problems with wifi previously.
I was using the AOKP Milestone 6 ROM before installing Jelly Bean.
I tried to search the ROM post and found no such issues for other people.
Wifi "on" switch is dull
Also the wifi "on" button is dulled out when I try to switch it to on and doesn't turn the usual blue colour on trying to turn it on

After flashing, tick the wifi and reboot. Try that. Are you using cbalt's port of Helly Bean? That's the one I'm using right now and not encountering any of that.

I tried doing as you said. It didn't help.
Now trying to install that datadata kernel and will see.
Is there some setting on this new recovery that maybe hampering it? Like the Devil setting in recovery shows 2 wifi modes. Which one is better?
No improvement with flashing the kernel
I later tried the cbalt version as well, but even that has no improvements as regards the wifi connectivity. Same problem persists.
of me still Normal or Advanced Fix Permissions In Recovery
wifi issue
also try simply resetting the wireless router
simple fix
occurred to after flashing a different rom (slimbean) with still the same issue
worked like a charm

[Q] SlimBean and SlimICS issue after upgrading from SlimBean 2.1 to 2.3?

This one is bugging me, because I can't figure out what is going on with this ROM on my captivate all of a sudden.
I've incremented through SlimICS 4.2, then SlimBean 2.0, then 2.1 and it was working fine. I figured 2.3 would be okay to go to to see if it helps further with speed/stability, but what is happening now is after it powers on, it works fine until the screen turns off. after that, I can't get any response from the phone, either by plugging in power, USB to Windows PC anything. I know it's still on because it runs warm, like some process has "run away" and I've even gotten some notification sounds from it, when the speaker volume was up. I've also tried re-flashing older 2.1, 2.0, SlimICS 4.2, but all versions of SlimRom have the same behavior. I thought maybe some file was not updating, so I downloaded CM10 (one off XDA with Devil Kernel), and that worked fine to turn off and on the screen. I was hoping I had overwritten whichever file is bad on Slim, and then re-flashed Slim, and the same behavior is occurring on all the Slim versions I've tested again. I prefer the toggle options of Slim, but would go CM10 if it's the only way. can anyone suggest anything regarding fixing an issue with the system not waking from sleep like this?
I know that in Recovery, the Power button works fine for presses, so the button itself is fine. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
CaretakerThe

You could try flashing a devil kernel on top of Slim and see if that doesn't fix your problems. Typically when someone is having this sleep issue it's a result of enabling Deep idle in the kernel settings. But being that it's happening to you even after a clean flash I don't know if thats it. But considering that when you're on CM10 you don't have issues and when you go back to Slim, which is all Semaphore you have the issues I would say it's kernel related.

Thank you Cappy m1batt1, that worked. I did have a Devil Kernel on my SD from a download link I found, and flashed that, it is working now. I have a Semaphore Manager app that came in the SlimRom, presumably with Semaphore Kernel. I found one for Devil Kernel from the Play Store just now. With any luck, I will not have to change or reinstall ROMs again before I can get a new phone...whenever that may be.
I would call this one resolved

CyanogenMod WiFi problems

I have just flashed CyanogenMod for lb. The WiFi hangs on trying to turn on. I would appreciate any opinions is this a problem with the 201 kernel I came straight from 4.1.2 so I have no comparison as to whether my WiFi works on 4.3. I can't seem to find any threads/posts about this if there are any just redirect this. I have already tried reflashing the kernel. I can't access cwm to reflash CyanogenMod its supposed to be power&vol- but have tried all button combinations. I would like to sort this because everything else is working fine.

Wifi issue is a kernel problem. I think.. Some users are reporting the same problem with DoomKernel.
I suggest you went back to 4.1.2 > update to 4.3 to see if wifi has issues.
After this you can try CM for LB again.

Thanks I managed to fix it I had to go back to 4.1.2 root it then tried 4.3 WiFi worked OK so back to CM again WiFi is working fine now. I don't think CM flashed properly because there were a few bugs and CWM wasn't working. It showed up in my system files but wouldn't boot into it even adb reboot recovery just got a normal reboot

If I've helped hit thanks
I had this issue, from recovery I wiped data and cache, rebooted and it works like a dream. All I need now is a way to get MSC back.
This CM11 rom is fast, smooth and a joy to use. Puts all other roms I've tried to shame!

Wifi 'Turning on...' loop

Alright, I'm only posting here because I have been desperately trying to fix my phone's Wifi.
Galaxy Note 4
Model Number : SM-N910T - T-Mobile
The problem that is happening is that no matter what, the wifi will not turn on. The button/slider to turn it on will be stuck either the left or right. Either way, it will just show on the screen that it is 'Turning On...'
I know for a fact that it is not a hardware issue. It has worked perfectly, and what happened to set it not to work anymore is that I rooted it, and installed a custom ROM. the Infamous rom.
I tried to revert back to the stock firmware, and I did successfully, but to no avail. It did not fix the issue.
I tried reflashing the kernel with a number of different ones, but still never fixed it.
I tried pulling the battery, the SIM card, as well as the SD card.
I tried many different roms and kernels.
I tried going into the system files and deleting the data/misc/wifi files.
I tried changing the wlan0 in the build to eth0.
I tried giving it a few good wacks. (I saw on a different forum that this was a common way to fix.)
I tried using all those 'WiFi Fixer' apps.
What am I missing? What way is there to possibly fix it? I've been trying different things for many hours of all of my days for the past week.
I feel like I've tried everything. The MAC address for the wifi/bluetooth is fine, it shows it is correct. The wifi will just not get past the 'Turning On..." loop.
Someone please shed some light on this.
If you're still having the problem --- The problem is the kernel.
Flash a different kernel, stock kernel or some other custom kernel for your device. It'll work just fine then.
I've had this problem before personally and that's how I know its the kernel.
Yeah he right....wifi issues are almost always kernel related

When it's a turning on loop, just says "Wifi is turning on.." and never does and does nothing else it's almost guarrenteed kernel related
ODIN back to stock will almost for 99% sure fix the problem, but like everyone else said it sounds kernel related, better to just start fresh with a clean odin install.
Having same issue lost my stock kernel accidently formatted the SD card it was backed up on, woops! Where can I get a stock kernel for sm-n910t3? I've found the t but not the t3 or another kernel that will work with tekxodus?
