Hey guys, my old and trusty galaxy S amoled screen shattered somehow, and I do not want to repair the phone as who knows the internal parts might die anytime?
Does anyone know of other uses for such a phone? Or is replacing the screen the only way out to make full use out of it?
It's interesting to see a phone model 2 years old still has so much development going on

If you're handy with things like this, a replacement screen is about $80, which isn't too bad. Pretty big pain to do it though. On the other end of things, if you're half decent with a linux terminal (or willing to learn a bit), ADB will be your best friend here.
EDIT: Also unless you mess something up internally or do something really wrong flashing it, it won't just die on you.

Had the same problem... i changed the display module for a new one... it's one with the glass so you need to replace the whole display
and believe me ... it's worth it... en really not exspensive!! just google it
and when replaced ...turn on the device en you'll see that NOTHING of data, pics, music etc. is lost...
sorry for my not to good english.
replace it!

Hi, I had the same issue few months ago. At that time, I found that you can buy a replacement display on e-bay, but most users claimed it was not an AMOLED display.
Also, in my case, I was not able to connect to the phone by ADB.
For those reasons I then decided to send the phone to the Samsung repair center. The only problem was that they wiped the phone (they did a factory reset). However, I didn't loose any picture I have saved on the phone. The phone is happily working and running CM10 nightlies
regards,
marco
I have a broken touchscreen (still works but is badly scatert)
So can i only replace touchscreen?
So not can i just put a new lcd with touchscreen on it. (I have amoled one is it posible to put lcd on it?) Because i know amoled is a pain to.findd parts.

my sprint htc hero needs a new motherboard only because the usb is completely damaged from the outside only. It is rooted. Once the new motherboard is in, will I still have root? what should I expect when I turn the phone on for the first time?

You can replace a motherboard but can't handle root?
replacing the motherbord shouldnt affect the actual software so yes im pretty sure you will still be rooted.
to be honest though i would just get a new phone because i know motheboards arnt cheap.
well, I did get a new phone a while ago. got the evo 4g. but this hero just keeps bugging me, so kind of more for fun, I want to give this a go. I already ordered the motherboard on ebay. 30 bucks plus shipping. I saw a video on youtube and replacing it looks fairly simple. It is going to take a couple of weeks for it to get here, but will post back and let you know how it turns out.

No, you will need to root again. The android software is stored of the motherboard. So putting in a new one will be like getting a new phone, minus new parts on the outside.
If the motherboard you bought is used, then whatever the previous user had on it, then that's what you would find. Hope this helps.

ha proved me wrong lol. either way rooting shouldnt be a problem just z4 that bad boy and itll be up and running in no time
ah, that makes sense now. well it is a new motherboard. found two sellers on ebay both of which have a small supply for 30 bucks each. okay so I start over once I have it. many thanks
I know it has been a while, but just to finalize, got this hero working like a charm. changing the mother board was the easy part. the trick was finding the right sprint store that would get msl code and make everything match up between the new mother board and the phone. they have to actually change codes in their data base or you will not get service.
Damn, you should have asked -- I have a couple extra heroes from friends who move on.
wow, thanks. You know it was one of those things that you brake and get some redemption when you fix it.

Today I had the worst accident My phone fell and a door closed on it. I want to know if the screen and digitizer on our phone is the same as those on I9000 (galaxy s) because they seem to be cheaper in Greece where I live. Any suggestions of cheap international online shops is deeply appreciated. Thank you all in advance.
Please, if you already make a [Q] in the title, post it in the Q&A Thread, this is not related to development!
new screen costs around 180$ right? (rediculous price tbh) if i remember correctly.
maybe sending it to samsung is even better
I wanted to do this and roght now I was going to edit my post to tell everyone that there is no Thread for Q&A only for I9001 so I did it in here

Brood I do not care for a genuine Samsung screen just one to work! In Greece it is about 100 Euros and 60-70 Euros on eBay and I do not think they are genuine in either case.

Our Q&A thread is hidden in I9000 Q&A thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252697)
make sure is not the i9003's screen, because is a different type of screen (9000: amoled - 9003: super lcd)
Emmm... Screen or only glass and digitizer is broken? That's is very important. Becouse new glass and digitizer cost less than 60-70$ and it's easy accessible on ex. ebay.

Its impossible to replace the digitizer without damaging the amoled. They sell the item but its useless.
Amoled, digitizer and the Gorillaglas are guled together, forever!

If you know what are you doing, then you can replace this
Both are broken screen and digitizer because when touching the screen the light do not light and when I make a call to my phone I can not answer it. So I am going for a screen and digitizer has anyone tested anything or has anything to propose. I am looking for the cheapest and most sure to work combination. Thank you all for your replies
OK. Last question I am thinking to buy this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Whi...437?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d066c387d
I have the black SGS+ so I thought to also change the color! Will it be suitable for my phone or I will have trouble in assembly because of the other parts included?
I9000 and I9001 are the same in dimension, the only thing that is different is the camera and cpu. I thought it was explained before in this post. Take the phone to a service with the newly bought lcd/digitizer and they will fix it.
Oh, and don't complain about prices, if you want your phone to be fixed and work as new, pay some cash. Otherwise try fixing it yourself

I'm a noob and this is my thread so don't get hard on me for now.
The day before yesterday I dropped my S plus, like I did many times before, but this time after I got my specs on there was a nasty crack(s), not a scratch (whats the difference?), on the screen. I can upload a pic if you want it, but then you must have no imagination in the first place. Well that's history for now, but I want advice on how to get it back into shape the fastest cheapest way.
After researching in Google (I know its a search engine not a library) I came to know that there was something called a digitilizer and the display (forget the screen). My phone's symptoms are that everything is fine, its detecting touch and the display has no patches at all, its just the damn glass is cracked.
So how to get it replaced?
EDIT; Anyone?

hey guys, I have a really quick Q for u. Is it possible to only replace the Digitizer/Glas on the One? They sell em for really cheap and because my screen still works fine after droping it (hell even the Digitizer still works!) I hoped that i can just replace it. The search doesn't show any result when I type in things like Display Digitizer etc. Did anyone attempted this? I saw some people replacing just the Glass on a Galaxy S4 on YouTube but there are only a few really poor videos on YouTube about the HTC One.

No, don't bother trying. The digitiser/glass is fused/bonded to the LCD and is very, very difficult to separate, so you'd just be wasting your time. Buy the whole LCD/digitiser assembly, and you'll be good

They're probably torn apart for good.. Try if you wanna, but it isn't recommended. There was an article on the xda portal about this a few weeks ago. You should read that to know about all the risks involved..

Dude just send it in for repair ... if you try and repair it it's going to cost you a fortune every time you attempt to repair a part you'll destroy 3 others.
T-mobile has a Refurb you can buy for $312 cash

it's not a matter of Faith it's just facts .. have you ever separated a digitizer from glass or an lcd ? it's an 11 on a scale of 10 in difficulty
if you tried it 100 times you would get maybe one working one.
and you have one chance to get it right .. good luck
I went to a cellphone repair center yesterday to get an iPhone's digitizer replaced, and I asked one of the guys who worked there if they fixed HTC One's too, and he said "no those phones are on our blacklist, you try to fix one thing you'll end up breaking something else." I think it's best to no try to open up this device. I know how you feel though, you really want to try to fix it on your own, but I can tell you from experience, some devices aren't meant to come apart, let alone put back together properly.
Hi
My Galaxy S home button got a bit wet and it won't work. I will try to separate the screen from the frame soon. However I would like to know where to order Galaxy S replacements.
I would like to order the frame and the screen separately and stick them in a way that they are easy to tear apart in case my home button breaks again. How could I achieve this?
I also saw lots of ebay sellers and amazon seller selling replacement screens, claiming they are original, compatible, with logo, and all that stuff.
So I wonder, are there different Galaxy S screens? How can you know which ones are original or not? Which ones are good or bad? etc
For example on AliExpress there are different ones like this
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free...reen-assembly-Black-color-100/1185287851.html (Claims to be original)
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/For-...-Assembly-Black-Free-shipping/1659713345.html (no idea if it's original or not)
Thanks!

I always use eBay to get my Galaxy S parts. I usually buy half broken phones and salvage parts from them. Or buy new parts from seller's in my own country with good ratings. I try and stay away from Chinese parts, they are cheaper but usually poorer quality in my opinion.

The main problem about the screen is that the AMOLED screen burns fast and loses color. So I would preffer a new original one, or a copy which is nearly as the original

Hi....i've take a replacement lcd panel for one s3 i9300 1 week ago from aliexpress....i'm still waiting for it....i'll give you all informations and feedback soon!
Thank you TheFastGT
The replacement screen worked perfectly, but after all I didn't get to need it since I didn't break the original screen while trying to fix the button.
Button is fixed and cell phone is working perfectly.
Thanks everyone
