So while we still wait for official ICS Motorola announces that we quite possibly might get JB.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/05/motorola-jelly-bean-upgrades/
and if not, they'll give a $100 allowance (for a new phone being introduced) to anybody that can't be upgraded to JB.

That $100 would go nice towards a Maxx HD. Of course the Developer Edition.:good:
Unless they just roll out JB instead of ICS, I'd guess we'll see JB some time next summer. No faith at this point.
Very sad all the new phones lack removable batteries, perhaps we'll see a Bionic HD too, with removable battery, lapdock option. I think the Bionic concept is great, if Motorola would actually make it work well and then market it well.
By the time the Bionic has JB via OTA, i expect to be using another phone for a while.
"the company will attempt to upgrade all of its new and existing Android handsets to Jelly Bean "very soon." "
It's been said the Bionic has been EOLed, not sure how accurate that is. Good chance they don't consider it "existing", but rather "old". I mean, it's been out a whole year! I would not be shocked if we got F'ed on this, but I am hoping.
its possible you need to have ICS installed before you can install JB? in which case if ICS doesnt come out, JB is SOL
We will get JB. They said all devices from 2011 and this year will get it. I watched their presentation live on YouTube. My question is will they just skip ics and go directly to JB.
I'm interested in their new phones having a developer edition. This is long overdue. I also believe that if you want a long battery life, it has to be put in like it is with the Razr. I suggest watching today's presentation over reading about it.

Yes but they also had a disclaimer right after that that said there are a few devices it just won't work on and won't be done. They didn't say which ones. That is apparently the target for the $100 - those that can't get JB.

JB can be installed without going to ICS
If the Bionic gets Jelly bean that would be great....

Well, let's define the criteria. I'd start with ones they said couldn't do ICS. Since we have dual-core and 1gb, we were slated to get ICS. So, there is still a chance Jelly Bean is in the cards. But unless they can get the bugs worked out in ICS, Jelly Bean will take a while to develop.
I'm just curious as what is so great about jelly bean? It won't have flash, and regardless of what people believe, most video sites plan on staying with flash. The big content providers don't like that HTML 5 exposes the video files that they can currently hide with flash, and will do like what hulu has done and release an app for mobile users. When you dig deeper than the major headlines, you will find out that many don't want to use HTML 5 for video streaming.
In my case, my college's website uses flash to access assignments online and without flash, I lose one of the more important uses of my phone. Online videos and college are the only reason I'm not running the ICS leak because flash didn't work for me and adobe aalready pulled it from the market. I know it's a disappointing move for the Razr owners who went from being able to watch online videos, to getting an update and no longer being able to watch them anymore.
I've learned not to listen to what some of the tech writers say because they are the same ones who thought Google + would take over Facebook and that the windows phone would stand a chance competiting with android. My belief is that the content providers will use this as an opportunity to charge for content that was free in the past for mobile use, which Hulu already has.

Sorry guys, I think that Flash just will not be supported no matter what in 4.0 and up. Here is a direct quote from the Market's link: "Flash Player WILL NOT be supported on any device shipped with or upgraded to an Android version beyond Android 4.0.x".
OTA JB would make me SUPER HAPPY!! Now I''ll just have to hold my breath..........
We should be getting it, our phone is certainly capable. Don't know if they'll decide to just forgo ICS and skip to JB or not but my guess is all of the phones with 1 GB ram will be getting it, which leaves the Droid 3 and X2 users who will probably be getting the $100 vouchers. Of course when we get the updates is another story.

just because it won't be supported doesn't mean that it won't work. it works fine on my kindle fire running JB. others have posted that it works fine on their Nexus 7.
in regards to the other discussion, i cant imagine that the bionic would fall into the category that JB won't work on. especially given that it is nearly identical (spec wise) to the gnex.
JB DOES work on the Bionic. I have it. (CM10 Kexec for Bionic alpha). It is SO SMOOTH! Google Speak is way faster then Siri. I did a side by side test with my Bionic and my friends iPhone 4S. Will it or won't it work should not be debated. The big question is when will we get it. That is what we should be asking.

Been a lurker for a while now. This is worthy of my first post. I found a flash 10.1 apk and it works. Not incredibly fast for flash games but it does work. I cant post links but I think you can figure it out.
getandroidstuff.com/2010/06/adobe-flash-101-full-support-for.html
Now I did not make this and don't know who did so use at your own risk. I have only been playing with it for a day and haven't seen any ill effects yet. All I know is it works.
" Android 2.2 comes with the new feature for full flash support. Here how it's work google just integrated a plugin called com.google.android.feature.GOOGLE_PLUGIN. And Flash uses it to embed itself inside browser. So browser in android 2.1 mobile phones does not see plugin. Now if you are owner of Android 2.1 or 2.0 smartphone then download the Adobe Flash 10.1 apk application below and get full flash support for your Android 2.1 or 2.0 mobiles.
BUT!There's another thing inside - a permission called android.webkit.permission.PLUGIN. It is already used by Flash Lite on HTC devices. So this app will replace the lite version of flash and will work with full feature.
Or get it here:

No wonder it doesn't work for a froyo rom.
The real question is when can we get flash on cm6 rc1???
I installed flash 10.1 from 4shared and after I tried it, i couldnt stay in the browser for long without it closing right back out.
I uninstalled it and it was fine.

currently the working adobe flash 10.1 release is primarily working only on devices bearing the "snapdragon" ARM processors... so when we're trying to force install this onto our devices it is either crashing, or not even allowing the install.
The flash 10.1 currently doesn't even allow the 1ghz hummingbird... its all a matter of time before a "general" release is going to be available. (i'm assuming)
I believe i've seen it said before and i quote;
"Adobe and Google working together to bring Flash player to a mobile device needs to be considered a "sensitive" port, unwelcome criticism on whether or not it will be necessary or whether this will start a revolution for future devices to follow depends on the ability to have Flash functioning flawlessly on the Android platform"
This means that all those Apple boys & gals who say "flash is pointless" yada yada... can't say "SEE THATS WHY FLASH IS USELESS" (implying that it will not work)
just my 2 pennies worth.

I didn't bother reading that whole post, primarily because I saw that you said that Flash wasn't pointless, but you are slightly incorrect.
The Slide's processor = ARM6
Requirement for Flash 10.1 = ARM7
IQ drop associated with mobile Flash = 72

Notice I said "snapdragon" and not just ARM, also flash in mobile is more of preference rather than necessity... hence the reason it can, or cannot be downloaded even with devices that are able to install it.
(and yes I do understand another reason for 3rd party install is to push updates without the need for a full firmware update)
Myself I personally like the idea of flash operating on a mobile device due to having my work email, which is primarily flash driven being able to access it with my personal phone. Using stock sense 2.1, I was able to do so, with Froyo on slide I'm unable to do so. (so back to the PC for me now)
So, as far as an IQ drop with the association of flash... if you have a mobile piece of software effecting your physical abilities then you really have a true issue, that needs immediate medical attention.
I just want to have the damn option of being able to use it.
is there any way to get the flash from the stock rom onto cm6

I'm pretty sure Flash lite only works for sense
I think the only reason I would ever need full Flash support would be for Robot Unicorn Attack and maybe some physicsgames.net.
I still agree with the number one reason for people to have flash is for them to watch porn. Do not argue about the statment i just said, you and i both know its true.
But with the new info about higher-end phones soon to have divx support in the flash well thats just amazing. Of course without great service your pretty much screwed but say we had great service as well as the opportunity to use this feature wouldn't you take advantage of this at work on break and watch some movies and what not? I sure would.

You pervs stop the porn thing, that's probably the reason we don't get full flash!
And flash games?? Are you kidding!!! Don't waste time on those crappy-ass games!
There are many other reasongs why would we want full flash,
Has anyone thought of the streaming tv viewing channels ability! Or streams of radio stations, which some work over flash player 10.1
One could watch Live TV!!!
Think of the real benefits of flash.
Well, stock flash on 2.1 works with many sites with medium/small flash videos, but not Live Streams...
One of the reasongs why I won't flash a Froyo rom, I want Sense and Flash!
Just my opinion

Actually I can confirm a 2.2 release.
Engadget:
"And, thankfully, there might be a much easier way coming, with Barnes & Noble reportedly telling Smartphone Mag that Android 2.2 will be officially coming to the Nook Color in January. Yes, Android 2.3 is what's happening, but this is still an exciting upgrade as it will finally also allow access to a traditional Android home screen and even enable the Android Market."
But in the same article, it says that froyo has already been hacked on...

getting 2.2 doesn't necessarily mean nook will support flash. I have a feeling it won't be fully supported and may be like the archos with choppy flash playback.
but will be interesting to see what happens.
i think people need to realize that the device is meant to be an ereader and I don't think B&N is going to spend money to make the device into a tablet.
Well flash has already been proven to work based on the 2.2 build here.
While it may not be completely smooth, it will be useful for sure.
My netbook doesn't even run flash video completely smooth either but its perfectly acceptable.
It's hard to find much discussion about ICS and flash player. Basically, from what I've found, there is no hardware acceleration. For me, it's important that it function at least as well as Gingerbread allowed.
I had LPY flashed for a day, but didn't have time to test the following. LPY was silky smooth, and I was getting amazing battery life, but choppy flash video on some sites killed it for me. However, I am safely and successfully back on GB, LC1, Darky. Originally flashed back to stock-rootable GB through ODIN, rooted, then applied Darky in CWM..for anyone that cares. Rocking 240 density, LauncherEX, DialerEX, loving all the extra real-estate. Too bad NoteCore0.1 refused to allow density changes!
Has anyone had any improvement forcing HW acceleration?
How about 2D GPU Rendering in Dev Options?
Maxthon Browser for 10" Tab? (Transformer Prime forums indicated this particular release of this particular browser has some magic property that runs flash correctly)
Does anyone care enough? Work-arounds? Where would the central ICS Flash Player discussion be?

First of all, you simply cannot do everything in HTML5 that you can do in Flash! Whilst the functionality gap is getting smaller all the time, it isn't currently zero.
Secondly, there are several very popular websites across the globe that still rely on Flash. For example, BBC iPlayer, which is used extensively in the UK, uses Flash to deliver content.
Flash may well be dying, but it isn't dead yet!

In both cases I would recommend using skyfire web browser as it compresses flash video to a more support format https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.skyfire.browser
And from what I know about the only things html5 cant do is interact with a web cam and dosnt have DRM support
I don't know where I've read but Samsung or android // Google wants to move on to html5 (aka to drop flash support), like Apple did a long time ago.
Yes, html5 is better from resorce-consuming point of view, but still a lot of websites use flash.
We only hope that more websites will move to html5-based animations in future.

Yes, I want it for the random site I'm bound to come across.
How lame is it when you say you have the latest technology, then when a friend or family asks you to check out some website on it, then it doesn't work, because it doesn't support flash, a technology so old....well, ya it's old! My old windows mobile phone played some of theses ICS problem sites just fine! That's not cool.
I'm back on GB, 11.1.111.9. I'm pretty sure when I was on LPY, it was version 11.1.115.8. I know I uninstalled it, and re-installed it from the market. This fixed the original blue box missing plugin scenario, but now we have the chop. Also, a few articles saying Adobe is stealthy releasing 11.2 seems to be a lie because I can't find any apk's OR market review with 11.2.

Nice! I didn't think of skyfire but actually that's what it took to make my WM phone play back in the day. Is been a while.
As soon as this ICS bug is squashed, I will probably flash it and give skyfire a go. For the most part I can live without some video, but it looks really tacky when you want to show it off if it's broken.

Personally, I don't think much of Skyfire as a browser, and its "Flash" video support is flakey at best in my experience - with iPlayer, I more often than not get a "media error".
Skyfire is a great solution if you don't have native Flash, but when you do it just doesn't cut it IMO.
I wish that the BBC hadn't used Flash for their Android iPlayer implementation, especially when they could've just tweaked the containers for their iOS streams to support both Android and iOS simultaneously. It certainly looks like a remarkably short sighted decision given that Adobe is dropping Flash support for mobile.
Regards,
Dave
Personally I'll be glad when Flash dies, for lots of reasons, but understand why it's a pain right now.
As for the BBC iPlayer comments; I've no problem at all on LPY with the app. Am I just not fussy enough?

skyfire suck balls
Well I doubt it will be to much longer until the iplayer has native html5 video (after all it already uses this for iOS) and as flash support gets killed for mobile by adobe other formats will take its place, I would say less and less sites are souly use flash, but of cause for years to come there will be random sites that still only uses it, its the case with all new formats.
Personally I have always found streaming and using flash within the browser to just be a bit of a pig and most of the time just wait till I can get to a computer
Literally just got my note today, and was just about to update to ICS but though I'd better check if there were any drawbacks before I plunged right in, and luckily enough I saw that flash has been dropped (Actually in a blog post about 10 reasons why ICS is better than gingerbread, it was casually dropped in whilst saying the new browser is better)
Soo... Am I right in thinking I have to decide whether I'd rather have flash and put up with cut down mobile versions of websites OR full websites but no flash?
I've spent happy years with an N900, and so I'm quite accustomed to the internet on my phone being the same as on my desktop...

From my experience flash is not not unsupported it just is a bit pants on ICS. I recently debated with myself about this as I'm a fan of the Escapist website but their HTML5 media only comes with a paid subscription.
Running their site on Dolphin with a Desktop UI works okay until you try and maximise the video content. Then everything falls over and you have to begin again and just zoom in on the video as best you can.
This is okay I guess but a bit of a pain when I know their Flash stuff would work a lot better on GB.
I can't let go of Paranoid Android tho, it's just too sweet.
I'm on CM9 and have no problems with flash on ics+ browser.
Skyfire is a horrid browser, caused me nothing but issues trying to watch 'flash' videos or even goto everyday websites like facebook.

Forget Skyfire. It used to work but nowadays it's useless. It does not play most of the videos I frequently come across.

I was just watching the Google IO Keynote live stream (I know, everyone's ideal way to spend a nice afternoon), and I saw this company that was getting featured by Android called Ekata Systems who launched their app Tapestry at the show. It seems to be a synchronized slideshow between JB devices with some snazzy twists that I've never seen any app do. It works best when you're trying it with a friend/family member so there are at least two devices (phone and/or tablet) to highlight the features though. You can check out the interview here, and the app here.
Talk about bleeding edge...only available on Jelly Bean. It uses this new feature called WiFi Direct that creates a local P2P network between 1:N clients. I'm playing with it with my co-workers and it is pretty sweet.
Interesting! I can see how it would be good for other things, like presentations for businesses and in learning environments.
Funny you mention that because that was exactly the first thing I thought about, which is showing a corporate presentation, or teachers using it to share learning material with students. I'm sure with some tweaks it can easily be made to address those use cases.
Couldn't wait to try this out, seems like an excellent idea for showing photos on my phone without transferring (I have been experimenting with file explorers and ftp/smb serviers)
Ideal opportunity came this evening when my (stock) Nexus S received an OTA update to JB.
Unfortunately, although Tapestry installed, I couldn't get past the white screen with logo on. hmrph.
Side note: Nexus S upgraded to JB but existing ICS flash/bbc iplayer etc still works.

Does Nexus S w/ JB support WiFi Direct?
After investigation, no
I hadn't realised Wi-Fi direct was a hardware requirement, as opposed to a software thingy. The app page is not clear on that, and dev's website is non-existent as far as I can see.
sigh

I dug around a little bit, and I think the WiFi chip in Nexus S *can* support WiFi Direct, but the firmware/drivers have not yet included support for it. AFAIK WiFi Direct support is mostly a driver/firmware update. Sorry buddy. Another hook for the man to extract more $$$ from us to upgrade to new devices.
Yeah it seems that way. I've been checking out the xda Nexus S forums too.
Can't really afford to upgrade phone after forking out for N7. I was hoping they would complement each other very well, which is why I didn't buy galaxy nexus. They do work very well together as nifty phone and muscly tablet, both with JB.
It does. I have one. Root and ROM it. I will try this right now. I'll report back. I'll try with my SGSII as well as it does have it.

So I was watching All About Android podcast on TWiT.tv, and guess who they were featuring on this week's episode?!
to ba fair WiFi Direct was already available since ICS but not used it.... until now:
if you want to connect from android device to android device for transmitting media, check this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.budius.WiFiShoot
different from tapstry (that is a presentation app) WiFi Shoot is a direct share app, and works with ICS.
this was developed by yours truly, and I developed it exactly because I noticed there was nothing out there for WiFi Direct
I tested it between Nexus 7, Galaxy Nexus, Asus TF300 and Galaxy SII (stock ICS) and all worked fine.
The most problematic of those were the Galaxy Nexus that not always want to connect, but between N7-GalaxySII was flawless.
At the moment the app just works for photo and video but I'll be expanding more, if you guys fancy helping spreading the word about it, I'm really looking forward to see the downloads explode on it.

You are awesome! I was really upset that I couldn't use WiFi direct to transfer stuff between my N7 and my evo lte, even though they would connect together. I just downloaded your app and can't wait to see the progress you make as it gets updated!

Thanks.
I'm really looking forward to have it iron out the bugs and have more than 500.000 downloads... hehehe =]
Looks cool. I'll give it a shot with the N7 and the Evo 3D and let you know.

If anyone is interested in benchmarks, I just gave a try here using a standard TV episode file (170mb).
From network drive (samba) to Galaxy Nexus via AntTek Explorer: 3m:17s (slow, uh?)
From netword drive to my Winwdos PC: 45seconds (better)
From the Galaxy Nexus to a Galaxy SII: 16 seconds (WOW... FAST)
if anyone fancy doing the same kind of test and sharing the result, just to compare and say that I'm not lying because I'm the developer, it would be pretty cool.
WiFi Shoot not working between 2 N7 devices
I will be writing a WiFi Direct app in the near future so I am trying to understand the technologyby using the WiFi Shoot and the WiFi Direct Demo applications but I'm seeing the following behavior.
If I have no WiFi connections to an WiFi Access Point both applications will perform as expected.
If I have an active connection to a WiFi Access Point both applications will bet to the point where an "Invitation to connect" is issued from one device to the other but once "Accept" is selected the status on both devices stays "Available" and no connection is ever made.
I thought WiFi Direct on the Nexus 7 was supposed to work when connected via an Access Point to the outside world...
---------- Post added at 06:34 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:28 AM ----------
I'm trying to use WiFi Shoot between 2 Nexus 7 devices while connection to the internet via an Access point but it does work. I get the application started on both devices an I see the devices listed on the connect screen. I select a device on one screen and I see the "Invitation to connect" on the other screen but after I select "Accept" nothing happens. Both devices status stays available and no connection is formed. If I turn the connection off to the access point the application works.
Any ideas?
Hi guys,
is anyone with interested in beta test the app?
I started a new thread in the development section asking for Logcats if you're experiencing force close.
Also it's a cut down version of the .apk there to test part of the system.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30012554
any help will be great appreciated.
thanks.
i just got an auto-update request a few days ago for Tapestry, and apparently the app now claims support back to Gingerbread (I doubt using WiFi Direct). Now people who are not as fortunate as us to have Jelly Bean devices, ie the rest of my entire family, they are in luck. This app will come in handy for the upcoming holiday season. Not looking forward to seeing the in-laws though (don't worry my wife doesn't read the boards =)
So, a friend of mine is upgrading to a new phone and said that she was literally going to run over her DROID 3 with her car because she hated it so much. I convinced her to instead let me give her $10 for it so I could play around with it.
I'm not really new to Android, I have an ATRIX HD and a Nexus 7 both on Jelly Bean. But I've never used any of the android versions before ICS, so I'm a noob in that regard.
Anyway, I'm looking for some cool stuff I could do with it. I won't be using it as a phone, more of as a toy. I've heard somewhere that you can convert old smartphones into security cameras and stuff like that. Doing that would be great because it would let me keep an eye on my dog while I'm at work.
I plan on doing a factory reset as soon as she gives it to me, but I'm open to ideas about what to do after that. I figured I would flash CM or maybe a different ROM.
Please, give me some ideas on what I could do with it! Thanks guys.
Use it of course!! the keyboard is awesome.
- make sure you're on .906 firmware (latest)
- root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497690
- Install safestrap 3.05 http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/solana
- Flash GB rom like minimoto or mavrom for usage
- Flash any JB rom to try out on 2nd slot
:good:

Its not a bad phone for free. Basically the stock Motoblur GB ROM is terrible due and it doesn't have much free RAM. If you plan on using the camera flash a stock 2.3.4 based ROM, I'd recommend Minimoto, although stock rooted would probably work fine. It has a good camera 8MP/1080p so it should work great as a remote webcam device.
I'm thinking of using mine like those Android HDMI sticks when I retire it so I can stream Netflix, Youtube, etc from it on my TV.
It makes a good PMP if you ask me. Also the keyboard is good for tweeting and such, (but most of those things call for 3g) but its still a neat little device, could use it as a media player as well.
The Droid 3 is by far the BEST QWERTY out there! it deserves better treatment! I recently bought a brand new one (manufactured in August 2012) and they even changed the hardware a bit! The gap between display and keyboard in the bottom left corner is gone, and the pulling area of the battery door moved from the middle to the edge for better getting off the battery door. Also they used an other display obviously because there are no more vertical stripes visible when the display is turned off.

I didn't think about using it to hook to the TV. That's a good idea. Do you know if there are any guides on how to set it up as a remote webcam?
