Phone App with *smaller* pictures - HTC Incredible S

I use Ice Cold Sandwich on my Inc S. I am looking for a Phone app that displays my contact's photo *smaller*. The resolution of the contact photos are so low that they look pretty bad when blown up to cover half the screen. A much smaller photo would be much nicer.
I think this would be some skinning of the core phone app, but not being a dev, I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

If you don't change Roms everyday why not to give new and hq pics to yours contacts?
If you don't want do it manually use some apps like HD Contacts. You'll have to put pics on your sdcard and let the program do the rest
Oh I forgot that pics should have the same names as your contacts.
I.e you have a contact named Dad, so the pic for it should be Dad.jpg
Good luck!
Best wishes,

Mod REQ, 5 megapixel panoramics from camera

basically i would like to use the panaramic mode but with the 5 megapixel quality, i dont know whether this can be enabled with a hack/patch, but i think it would be a good addition to the phones abilitys - i know it would take longer to finish the stitching but a worthy wait! anyone interested?
Me too
me too..
for long times..since the i900 omnia ;-)
on sgs using panoplanet lw it would be great!
This sounds reasonable! Samsung totally missed the spot with these ridiculously lo-res panoramas Love this feature, but low res output makes me do panoramas on my pc...
Why don't you take regular pictures and use windows software like Microsoft ICE (free) or AutoPano (not free) to stitch them together?
(I know, not a solution to your problem, but definitely better results)
A solution but kinda take the spontaneity and fun out it. Its nice to have the results in hand.
panoramas are usually lower res because they are, in fact, they are several photos stitched together. this holds true even in some newer point and shoot digital cameras.
the galaxy s is not alone in this. previous samsung phones such as the i900 omnia , s8000 jet, and i8910 omnia hd support the sweep panorama, but only at a lower resolution. just be thankful that the galaxy actually HAS sweep panorama - my friends with their iphones drool over this feature. otherwise, do what frauhottelmann says.
if a dev IS able to make this happen, then WOHOO!
Holy moly it would be awesome if this could happen. Doesn't need to be huge but anything better than the tiny res setting its using now.
Of course that will put a much bigger demand on the memory and processing since it takes all the photos and then does the math. I can see issues popping up...
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
even if it just took the pictures automatically leaving the stitching to do manually later it would be very handy. id actually prefer that.
i dont mind waiting while it processes the images, and if i was going to go thru the process of stitching in windows id probably take the pics with a real camera, it was just a suggestion and i, as a non techy thought it might be just a few mod's to the camera scripts - surely it would be a few lines which forces this mode into low res.

Photography Apps for the Xoom/Honeycomb

Decided to start a thread for Xoom/Honeycomb apps for photographers. This is not a thread for camera apps but a thread that a photographer shooting with a dSLR might use in the field, during a shoot, or to edit or view photos.
I will edit this post as new ones are added to make it easy for folks to keep up with.
Available:
Quickpic
Geotag Photos
Sundroid
PicSay Pro
Camera Control
Photaf (free)/Photaf 3d Panorama Pro
Adobe Photoshop Express
Scott Kelby's Photo Recipe Apps I and II
CR2 - a .RAW image viewer for Canon RAW files.
In Development:
Naiar Project
The Photographer's Ephemeris (TPE) - being developed for phones, but hopefully will work OK on tablets.
Does not seem to work:
Camera Zoom/FX
You can add PicSay Pro. It has the Honeycomb navigation elements, but still only works at screen resolution for edits and saves.
Not sure if it's tablet optimized, but you could look into PhotoCaddy. Sounds like what you're looking for
Photaf works well and I worked with the developer to make it more Xoom friendly.
I wanna shoot tethered to my 7d
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
I can say that I don't think Camera Zoom FX plays well with the Xoom.
It only seems to take pics in B/W.
I really love the effects available and would love to use, so if someone else can test, that would be killer.
Thanks
Photoshop works on the xoom

Camera Apps for Xoom
The Vignette app seems to work well. The interface isn't scrunched up like the others (Retro, Fx, & Zoom). And the quality is good.

It does not work in landscape.
Picplz... although I'm not sure if it's considered a photo app. It has numerous filters and allows a quick upload to FB, Twitter and Foursquare.
Photo display on the xoom
One thing that really disturbed me about the ipad, was the compression applied to all incoming photos by itunes to an already lossy format (jpeg).
Does the XOOM (android) automatically apply compression as a photo is moved onto the device, or can I transfer my jpegs untouched from my computer?
Thanks for any help,
DJC

99% sure that since it is a fully open file system, unlike iphone and that we don't have an application to move files for us you files are 100% untouched. If they were, I would think the device is doing the manipulation and that would be poor design

It does not alter the files in any way but the images don't look that great in the native viewer. I have tried with high resolution files and low resolution files on 2 Xoom models and the native Gallery viewer makes them look slightly softer than they should. I use Quick Pic which displays them a lot better. I was actually shocked at first at the fact that they looked that much sharper in one viewer vs the other.
I've been waiting in hopes that Nikon would give Android some love. I own a D3000 and I love the camera. It just seems to make sense that a tablet with the proper photographer's aids loaded on it would be an ideal evolution for those of us who were bitten by the photography bug over 40 years ago. However, nothing I've seen so far gives me any hope with my dream. Has anyone else observed otherwise? Would appreciate any mentoring that anyone is willing to offer. TIA
Adobe Photoshop Express works well and while it has not been updated in forever, I find for a free app it has a lot of what the rest have with a better interface.
I put my paid versions of Camera Zoom FX and Vignette on my Wi-Fi Xoom but have not really played around with them yet so I can't say how they work. A rear camera on a tablet is kind of useless IMO. My DX has a better camera and is far more portable. If I need a real camera I have a nice DSLR. The only camera I use on the Xoom is the forward facing one for video conf.
Just curious, any recommendations based on what's listed so far and what's the best recommendation as for a method of actually getting images onto a Xoom in the field?
I would love to be able to have a tablet version of Nikon Camera Control for my Xoom. That program is the sole reason I still have my 12" AL powerbook G4. I look like a tard with my lappy tethered to my camera for shots. How many of you would find something like this useful? I wonder if Nikon would be open to the suggestion...well, after the tsunami recovery.

I would love a canon version, too. That is actually part of the reason I purchased a Xoom, expecting someone to have an app for tethered shooting/live view. Landscape photographers everywhere would rejoice. I know there is someone working on canon raw image viewing, which would also be huge.

[Q] Contact app picture quality

Hey there,
I don't like these bad quality contact photos (whether in HTC contacts app, in stock google contacts app or in some 3rd party apps). You know you upload or select a good quality pic, then you get a call an see those pixeled pictures... that's embarrassing
Or before you probably see that pixeled pic in the app. you know what I'm writing about
So do you know a mod or a method to make that look better?
I'm using right now a Sense 4 ROM where the pictures are also drawn wide if you select a contact, what doesn't make that look better
I heard that in JB the app would be support higher resolution pictures... HTC really don't know how we feel so haha

[Q] Camera photos viewed on computer

Am I the only one who has problem that the photos i took with HTC One look perfectly fine with great details on phone, but when being uploaded to facebook, they look completely different. The attached is an example of a blurry face and washout picture taken in Liverpool, but it was perfect when viewed on my phone. Do I have a problem with my camera?
I dont see anything wrong with the picture attached. Is this supposed to be the facebook sample?

Yes it is, is it a normal photo taken by HTC One viewed on a computer? Coz it is so much different where when viewed on my HTC One, i can clearly see my face and the saturation is higher, now when uploaded to computer my face becomes blurry and the photo looks pale

With our phones, the zoom isn't that great cause of the lack of Megapixels, but its not that blurry, if you wanted to crop out your face you shoulda had the pic taken closer. Sorry bud. As for the saturation, that seems fine to me

But i didn't zoom it before the upload, i just don't understand the difference between photos viewed on my phone and on my computer, where before the upload it looked perfectly fine on my phone. Could it be the lower ppi of my computer screen? I personally think that my HTC Incredible S takes better photos in this regard where the photos taken by it, will look the same on my computer.

My point was that it seemed as if you were cropping the picture, the photos the one takes are great, the cropping, not so much. The cameras strength i slow light, which it has great results in

No i didn't crop it before uploading it. The photos i crop on my phone still look great, but only on my phone. Do you have any explanation of the reason behind the difference between the quality of the same photo when viewed on phone and on computer? But i concur on the point that HTC One takes amazing low light shots, until i upload them on to facebook or view them on computer.

maybe its the upload process, are you uploading straight from the fb app? if so connect you phone to your comp and put the picture on your hard drive, sometimes fb uploads ata lower quality

I transferred the photos to my computer before uploading it to facebook, and the size of the photos remained the same, they still don't look presentable on my computer like how it is on my phone. *sigh*. I wonder if i could get a replacement based on this reason. hahahahaha

well, not sure what kind of monitor are you using but the saturation on HTC One is one of the highest on the smartphones market today(according to GSMArena, only behind super amoled). Your phone's screen is surely much superior to your desktop/laptop display in term of contrast so it is obvious that you see much punchier color when viewing on your phone
It's a known issue coz of the big sensor and lesser pixels.

It has nothing to do with that. The sensor size is exactly the same as every other smartphone out there. Lesser pixels would not be the reason as well because when zoomed in on the phone, it's still reading the same data.

Sensor size doesn't affect resolution. You can have 16 Mpx on a tiny sensor and have much sharper but more grainy fb posts
The problem is simply that 4 megapixels isn't enough to zoom into someones face from that distance and expect minute details - that's a DSLRs job.

That's exactly what I said lol But the issue is the zoomed in face on the phone looks perfectly fine but horrible on PC According to the OP that is.

He must have a bad monitor maybe OP should spend less time climbing on English property, and more time buying a new monitor xD

Hahahah i love the line 'OP should spend less time climbing on English property'. I believe I have a quite decent laptop, with 2GB Nvidia graphics card and i5 processor the screen shouldn't be too bad. But i do realise that HTC One has a better screen than my laptop screen, in terms of ppi. What makes me think i have a problem with my phone is that upon comparison with photos shared by others, mine just seem mediocre. Perhaps i should spend more time on adjusting the sharpness, contrast, etc.

This happens even when i transfer the photos to my computer and view them, they just don't look half as good as they look on my phone. I could play battlefield COD on my laptop without any lags and the graphics blew me away, so i guess screen quality shouldn't be a problem. I don't have this issue with my HTC Incredible S, the photos still look good when viewed on the same laptop.
You should actually REDUCE sharpness cos Sharpness at 0 there is still sharpness being applied through software. -1 works much better.

Improving the quality of your pictures with a single click

How many times you think you have taken the perfect picture only to find it overexposed and soft, and you can't take another one because the moment you were trying to capture is gone? It happens a lot, as great as the cameras on smartphones have become, these issues are bound to happen with every smartphone. I have had the S9, P20 Pro, Mate 20 Pro, Note 9, and S10+ now, and every one of them gave me great pictures, but trash ones as well at times.
Long story short, these cameras as great as they, they're a tad inconsistent, but there's kinda a solution for it, at least on Samsung phones. Some of you might know it, maybe plenty, but I bet many more don't, I'm talking about the Auto Adjust mode buried in the gallery app. It turns most of the pictures I found meh into great looking pictures, adds contrast, brings the colors back to life, and give me that Pixel like look to my pictures. It doesn't always work great, but it does the job at least 90% of the time on the pictures I am not happy with. Even works great with the pictures from previous phones, including the Huaweis.
Here are a few pictures from before and after, you can easily tell which is before and which is after. The first two pictures are taken on the S10+, the instrument cluster and the picture on the snow were taken using the Note 9.
P.s: to get to the mode, when in gallery and checking a picture, press on the pen icon(edit mode), then click on the three little circles at the bottom(look at the attached picture), then choose auto. Good luck.
I forgot to mention one more thing, when you're in edit mode, there is a little wand icon up top, it also does a very good job at tweaking your picture. If I am editing my pictures and I am not happy with the results I am getting out of one of these two options, usually the second one does the job for me. Either ways, I know that 99% of the time I am getting a much better picture than the camera app have given me.
Oh wow, the difference is insane!
Doesn't work very well for me, look at the two below , just over sharpened and far to much contrast View attachment 4721778

Yeah I like the look of OP's before pictures. Some of the after pictures also look goo, but like the snow one looks better before.
By the way the auto mode in the Google photos app is fantastic as well. Especially with outdoor shots and landscape using the pop feature really gives pictures a better punch. I think it's hilarious we all complain that we can't take DSLR level pictures on our cell phones but with a little bit of editing things can dramatically improve.
wow definitely adds more saturation and definition to the photos. makes the originals just look so muted.
