[Q] Contact app picture quality - HTC Sensation XL

Hey there,
I don't like these bad quality contact photos (whether in HTC contacts app, in stock google contacts app or in some 3rd party apps). You know you upload or select a good quality pic, then you get a call an see those pixeled pictures... that's embarrassing
Or before you probably see that pixeled pic in the app. you know what I'm writing about
So do you know a mod or a method to make that look better?
I'm using right now a Sense 4 ROM where the pictures are also drawn wide if you select a contact, what doesn't make that look better
I heard that in JB the app would be support higher resolution pictures... HTC really don't know how we feel so haha

[Q] Zoom in Camera

Hi,
is there a way to increase the camera 2xzoom to e.g. 4xzoom?
maybe in the registry, like adding new shot-modes?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the zoom is digital (ie. not optical). So there's really no difference in taking a 2x-zoomed pic versus a 1x-zoomed pic magnified 200%. So, 4x-zoomed pic would just be a 1x-zoomed pic magnified 400%.
Bring your digital cam if you really want serious pics.

Yes that is right. In fact if you want digital zoom anyways, take photos without it and magnify them on the PC. The quality most likely will be better, especially if you use special programs like PhotoZoom.
And the last part is most important. Sensors and lenses of phones' cameras are crap compared to any real (serious) compact camera.

Low res contact photo

How come even on the latest versions of android contact photos are still backed up in such a low resolution? It looks awful that when you either look up a contract or make a call the photo is of such low quality. It's there anyway to keep the contact photos at their original, or better resolution?

Seems like google is using the same low resolution (96x96px) for contact photos from earlier versions. here is something for you,
Quote "if you have rooted your device, you can increase the size of the contact photos to 400x400px (or more). That sounds good in devices with a large screen, like Galaxy Note."

Try Full Screen Caller ID
Thought I'd post an update on this. After getting the Note 2 I synced my contacts from Google complete with the low res photos however when I updated the photos they were significantly improved. I realised the photos were still low res because that's what Google had stored up to that point. Now that I've updated most of my contact photos they look tons better.

Phone App with *smaller* pictures

I use Ice Cold Sandwich on my Inc S. I am looking for a Phone app that displays my contact's photo *smaller*. The resolution of the contact photos are so low that they look pretty bad when blown up to cover half the screen. A much smaller photo would be much nicer.
I think this would be some skinning of the core phone app, but not being a dev, I'm not sure. Any suggestions?
If you don't change Roms everyday why not to give new and hq pics to yours contacts?
If you don't want do it manually use some apps like HD Contacts. You'll have to put pics on your sdcard and let the program do the rest
Oh I forgot that pics should have the same names as your contacts.
I.e you have a contact named Dad, so the pic for it should be Dad.jpg
Good luck!
Best wishes,

Google Photos - Blurry on Note 4

Hey everyone,
this a hybrid Note 4/Google Photos question. If this isnt an appropriate place to ask, I understand and this post can be locked.
I recently came from the Note 3, which I loved in every respect except build quality. I had a buddy of mine looking to upgrade to the Note 4 as well, and was asking me to take some sample pictures to see what they look like. Well, I took a picture of some droid mini figures on my desk at work, and noticed something very very odd.
In the Google Photos app, which I have used exclusively on the Note 3 for all my gallery needs, the images are very noticeably softer/blurrier than in the stock Gallery app. I have tried taking multiple pictures, screenshots, etc, and everything in Photos is much more blurry than Gallery. Does anyone know why this is?? Is it a Note issue? A T-Mo default settings issue? I cant find any sharpening default settings in the Photos app.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks
I think samsung gallery automatically applies sharpening filter. Transfer picture to computer and examine it in 1:1 zoom to make sure you like quality.

Its deceitful, the picture quality doesn't transfer to computer. I hate Samsung's camera

Camera voice control - say "Capture" to take a photo

As I mentioned in another thread, I'm considering moving from SGS7 to this Xperia. One feature I really like in Samsung's camera app is that it can be voice-activated - you launch the camera, and then whenever you say "Capture" or "Smile" or "Video" and it takes the photo/records the video. Super handy to take pictures from odd angles, above you, or selfies with the back camera without messing with timers.
Does Sony's camera app support this?
