Hi guys, I'm completely new to this and need your help! I have a problem as follows:
My HTC Sensation XL was on ICS (updated when I got it a couple of months back). Yesterday, I received a notice telling me to upgrade to "Android 4.0 with HTC Sense 3.6". I performed the upgrade and my phone started going into boot loop. This only happens when the SIM card is inserted. If I take out the sim, the phone boots normally.
Steps I have taken so far:
1. I took it to a shop, but they couldn't fix it. I can't really tell what they did. They were unable to fix my problem.
2. I then came on to this forum, and tried a bunch of random stuff. Nothing seemed to work.
3. I loaded a bunch of stuff on, think I rooted it (lol) and other stuff too.
Currently my phone shows the following:
*** FARDJADB ***
RUNNYMEDE PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-1.25.0004
RADIO-3831.18.00.26_M
e-MMC-boot
Oct 20 2011, 00:20:33
Other info which may or may not be useful:
cid: HTC__621
Android version: 2.3.5
HTC Sense version: 3.5
Software number: 1.24.708.2
Kernel version:
2.6.35.13-g1fcdb7b

Baseband version
20.75.30.0833U_3831.18.00.26_M
Build number:
1.24.708.2 CL238582 release keys
As I stated, I am unable to boot it normally if a SIM is inserted. Without the SIM, I can go into what looks like a primitive version of HTC Sense.
I would like to be able to use my phone with a SIM card, preferably with the latest version of android. I'll figure out rooting and all that at a later date.
If the latest versions are not possible, it doesn't matter what would be the best method, but one of the following would be good for me:
1. Factory settings
2, Latest android/htc sense version
3. Something else?
Could you give me something more in the way of step by step instructions? I'm a newbie at this and don't really know what I'm doing. If I have bricked my phone permanently, please let me know too
Your replies and suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance!
ps. If this is in the wrong section, please let me know and I will move it accordingly.

Hi stona, thank you for the quick reply.
I tried your instructions, but ran into some problems.
1. If I do a factory reset with sim card inserted (using the menu from power+volume down), the htc splashscreen comes up, and it goes into boot loop.
2. I then pulled out and reinserted battery, and booted into fastboot mode, and relocked bootloader. the CMD prompt says:
<bootloader> Lock successfully
FAILED <status read failed <Too many links>>
finished. total time: 0.259s
Currently my screen says this:
*** FARDJADB ***
RUNNYMEDE PVT SHP S-OFF
HBOOT-1.25.0004
RADIO-3831.18.00.26_M
(no difference that I can see)
I am still stuck in loop as soon as I put sim in.
Also, where can I find the stock ICS RUU for my region/phone?
Thanks in advance!

Alpharev is not working for me , Please help me.
I followed these steps mentioned here--
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-to-s-off-htc-incredible-s-alpharev-hack-tool/
Hope anyone help me out..
I easily got s-off on my HTC desire S..
(For Example, on some Indian/Asian HTC Incredible S phones, this tool would get stuck here and the process won’t start. They need to install Optus RUU first in order to make this tool run — I’ve done the same, actually, on my Indian Incredible S. So, if it gets stuck, maybe, there is a problem with your phone then — better Google it. Good luck!).

There's your problem. You need to create a Goldcard and flash an RUU that's compatible with AlphaRevX and then try again.
from Revolutionary
Optus RUU 2.12.980.2 / Virgin RUU 2.12.981.2 .. Most Incredible S ROM versions with Gingerbread have been patched. If your Gingerbread version is lower than 2.12.980.2, then use the Optus/Virgin RUU with a goldcard to upgrade to Optus RUU 2.12.980.2 / Virgin RUU 2.12.981.2, then you can use Revolutionary. .. Versions higher than 2.12.980.2 will have to wait until
a new temproot is released. Known patched versions lower are: 2.12.720.5 and 2.12.774.6 and probably all 2.12.7*.*

Special thanks to JohnAnderton on this info :
If AlphaRevX isn't working for you (kept "hanging" at Step 2 i.e. attempting to get root). This was because AlphaRevX doesn't work with certain carrier variants are GingerBreak patched
It didn't work for me on the India/Asia version.
To check your software version, go to settings > about > software version > build version. If it says 2.12.720.5, I'm sorry but you'll have to do the Optus/Virgin AU ROM installation.
Here are the steps to do that:
1) Download the Optus ROM (261 MB)
2) create a gold card
3) run the ROM installer and wait for it to extract, go to your tmp folder (start > run > %tmp% > sort by date > see newest folder > dig in deep and find rom.zip)
4) take rom.zip and put it on your SD with the name PG32IMG.zip
5) Reboot your phone into boot loader (this can be done by switching your phone off, waiting 5 seconds, turning your phone on with the volume down pressed). It will see that you have PG35IMG.zip so it will verify and install it. It will come to the boot loader again and once it's done installing it will load the OS (the regular HTC white page followed by Optus' logo. Once you're in the OS, remove PG32IMG.zip

theres a new update with revolutionary and you can now s-off the htc inc s with gingerbread.
it took me 3 mins to s-off
Ok. Let me clear this out (once again).
AlphaRevX does not work on all versions. Versions known not to work at include the stock OTA GB upgrade that Indians (such as myself) got and 2.30.xx and some versions above.
Why doesn't AlphaRevX work everywhere? Because HTC patched the temp root exploit gingerbreak used (AlphaRevX uses gingerbreak in step 2).
Use Revoluionary. It uses a different temp root method and for now, works on all (as far as I know) versions of HTC Inc S.
http://revolutionary.io
How do you use it? The same way you always used AlphaRevX?
Want a tutorial.. you really should use search but meh, here you go..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1137008
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14924283&postcount=83
And if you would have looked decently well, you would have found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14865832&postcount=32 which clearly states that AlphaRevX doesn't work on the Indian GB ROM (I know cause I was there on Day 1 of AlphaRevX going public). That post always gives a solution..
Anything else?
Yay, someone quoted me.. Thanks NikonElite

John, you say this, but I am pretty positive that it somehow doesn't work on my phone.
Here's my situation:
I have a Windows 7 x64 system and a HTC Incredible S S710e phone with Android 2.3.3, HTC Sense 2.1 and the Software number is 2.30.405.1.
I live in Germany and that's where I bought my phone so I assume it has the European shipping ROM running.
I downloaded the Revolutionary tool from http://revolutionary.io/ and generated a beta-key. I disabled fast boot, enabled debugging, rebooted the phone and went into airplane mode. Still - the patch won't work. It's not like with all the other users that it gets stuck after a few minutes. It tells me "failed to get root " right after a few seconds. I tried this at least 25 times now in different combinations with AntiVir on and off, with airplane mode on and off, with Disk Drive mode and Charge Only mode. Always with the same "failed to get root" result.
So I found another solution: the GoldCard. That's what I did. I got a fresh SD Card, formatted it into FAT32. I created a goldcard image with my reversed CID via http://psas.revskills.de/?q=goldcard and used the Hex-Editor to modify the values. I downloaded the Optus ROM [RUU_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_Optus_AU_2.12.980.2_R_Radio _20.2803.30.085AU_3805.04.03.12_M_release_185028_s igned] from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033922 but the HBOOT loader told me "Update failed - Main Version is older" or something like that.
In another thread, someone said I had to install the same or a newer software version of what I have. So I installed the same: 2.30.405.1. No error message, the Update was successful. But: the phone is still in S-ON. Well, it wasn't the Optus ROM after all...
My question is: which ROM do I have to install via GoldCard so that I can get S-OFF - either instantly or after then applying Revolutionary?
I'm very sorry if there is already the solution for this somewhere here but I used the search function genuinely and never found it. I'm not a forum noob - just to this one.
I have read these threads and guides:

Version 2.30.405.1 has been succesfully S-Off'd using Revolutionary. Did you also download and install the HTC Windows drivers from the Revolutionary documentation page?.
No, I have not.
I always read I had to install the latest version of HTC sync to get the drivers and then de-install the Sync program. But I didn't try any Revolutionary drivers yet.
Thank you for that tip, I will try tomorrow and give feedback.

to me it is the same, I bought my HTC Incredible S (s700e) on amazon and it came with unlocked and updated version gingerbread asian rom.
(RUU_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.12.707.5_Radio_20.2805.30.085AU_3805.04.03.27_M_release_190036_signed).
I did the gold card and put the rom of Korea.
(RUU_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_KT_KR_2.21.1010.4_Radio_20.2805.30.085AU_3805.04.03.27_M_release_194748_signed).
and now I can replace the rom that I had, says error [140]: error bootloader version, I wanted to put in s-off but I can not my phone is anchored to the korea rom that is not someone to make this happen?
Okay, I can't believe it just went so fast.
It turned out I had already downloded and used the drivers given in the revolutionary documentation. [can't put links here, I'm too fresh for this forum]
I tried it again with those but it didn't work. While I was re-reading the documentation, I noticed that a newer version of the revolutionary tool has been published since I first downloaded and tried it so many times.
My first version 0.3pre7 couldn't do it but the now available version 0.4pre4 did the trick!! My phone is now S-OFF!
It was so simple this time. Used the drivers mentioned above, downloaded the 0.4pre4 revolutionary and generated the beta key. Started the phone with enabled debugging, disabled fastboot and went into airplane mode. I deactiveted Windows Firewall and AVG AntiVir on my Win7 x64 PC. I started the tool, waited for 3 minutes for the phone to reboot a few times and after the success it even installed the clockmod recovery thingy.
Great work, AlphaRev and unrevoked. I will donate!!
Thank you also tpbklake for making me aware of the documentation again.

Go to the site http://revolutionary.io and read their documentation page completely. Install the appropriate drivers and then download the most current version and get a new beta key. Your HBOOT can be S-OFF using Revolutionary, you just need to follow the instructions completely.
install the latest htc sync and uninstall the htc sync alone keeping the drivers...now try the revolutionary step again..

In ur case revolutionary s-off works 100%
tested my self
Hello, I forgive me for asking this question, after a few days to try some rom, I opted to return to my stock rom, but not how to do it, eh seen some tutorials but they are confused and not understand how to perform the process if anyone can guide me step by step, or give me a tutorial in spanish is the preference would appreciate, and also where I can download a stock rom, I had the following:
Android version: 2.3.5
HTC Sense version: 3.0
Software version: 3.08.405.3
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.9-gf445c95e [email protected] 18-2#1 Fri Nov 11 20:19:24 CST 2011
Baseband version: 20.2805.30.085AU_3805.04.03.27_M
Number of compilation: 3.08.405.3 CL197817 release-keys
Browser version: Webkit/533.1
this is the most current version or is there a more updated ROM is basically what I want is that when the update to ICS can do it without any problem. thanks
We need your phone's hboot version and the main version.
How to check main version:
1. reboot your phone to the bootloader.
2. select fastboot and check there is "fastboot usb"
3. Connect your phone yo your pc.
4. Search for fastboot.exe from the internet.
5. Open up windows:"cmd" or Unix/Linux:"terminal"
6. Type "fastboot.exe getvar all"
7. There may have a row called mainver.
Sent from my Incredible S using XDA
this is what I get on screen HBoot:

now where I can download the stock rom I had or the most current version for mobile, as would be the flashing process? sorry for so many questions but it is complicated with HTC phones
I have also questioned whether there is any risk to return to a stock rom, because when you install the custom change the system to ext4, thanks.

Since you have S-Off with Revolutionary, you need to follow the procedure listed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15732727&postcount=14
You can down the RUUs from here:

Don't worry about the link in step 1. Start at step 2 and then from the second link I posted, sounds like you may want to try the WWE 3.08.405.3 RUU.
ok, thanks and comment if you get done flashing, Greetings

I have just unlocked the bootloader via htcdev.com and flashed a recovery and flashed a custom rom.
Now When I tried to restore back to Stock rom(from the backup which i took before flashing new rom), It takes me back to recovery all the time after reboot.
I manually flashed boot.img from the back up folder too.
Still it takes me to recovery all the time. I mean, After restoring, It will just reboot and take me to recovery. Even logo "HTC Quietly Brilliant" wont show up.
My phone is S-ON.
I really need to get back to stock rom.
Please help me.
Hello, as I have tried to return to the stock rom without success remains standing on the htc animation.
Now I have a big problem because I have broken the load center, because if I connect to the electric current does not load, does not recognize the usb.
Is there any way to flash the stock rom through recovery?
I need some guidance on trying to resurrect an HTC Incredible 2 (Verizon) that is currently a stock unit (never rooted or unlocked) that will not boot - gets stuck on white HTC screen. The person using it, went and upgraded to another device and was about to throw the unit out until I decided to take one crack at a rebuild.
I can get into the HBoot screen and have attempted numerous factory resets to no avail... system will simply show a progress bar that never moves.
I've been searching this board and can't seem to get a clear way to get a full image back onto the phone. I've tried some of the moves to copy a RUU file to P32IMG.zip but keep getting "main version is older" messages from numerous different versions that I've tried. (So, the unit is reading the SD card correctly)
Can anyone point me to a guide to simply blast a new image onto the phone (preferably via the SD Card, since I'm not able to get onto the phone via a USB cable - even after I've installed HTC Sync). I don't care about rooting or unlocking as a first start... I just want to see if the phone will boot and doesn't have a hardware problem. ...and most of the rooting/unlocking guides on this board assume you can boot to Android as a first step - which i cannot do.
Here are the version numbers from my HBOOT screen:

Hoping u do have ADB FASTBOOT installed on your computer if u dont the HTC DEV will provide you with all the files u needed
For start you need to log-in in HTCDEV web and get phone unlocked NOT (s-off) and try flash a recovery of any choice (experiment step checking if u can still boot in HBOOT or not)
Ok can you get into HTC LOGO with an Exclamation mark (!) .If yes u will still be able to Send command via Fastboot .Now that you have HTC SYNC (untill unistall the unless and just keep HTC drivers) .You did tried the RUU but an network locked or an unlocked can be on of the issue why it never worked and hence u never get into HBOOT screen. Download any rom of your choice and a Recovery either CMW or any u want move the rom in SD CARD.. Once u reach the Deleopment LOGO (Exclamation logo) flash the recovery Via CMD " fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" and try reboot you phone if it still does not boot in the HBOOT(If i worked it step one) all u gotta do now is boot is recovery install any rom u want and flash the boot.img manually (Fastboot flash boot boot.img) . Wipe cache devil cache battery state (aka clean slate)..
Assume it never worked at forst place ..Take the Network specific RUU and boot your phone into DELEOPMENT MODE and run the RUU (if an error pop's up) simple disconnect the phone take the battery out and try the HBoot boot (It has worked a lot when an error message on screen) phone choose to boot into recovery.
And the longest trick is get it unlocked via htc dev (UNLOCKED) and downgrage your Hboot verson to its lowest (S-off) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2118187 and redo the earlier steps
Hi,
First of all, accept my apologies in advance if i sound a complete NOOB, cuz really I am. Im just looking for some help regarding the know-how of the phone I just bought.
We dont get locked phones in my country ( and by locked I mean like as u say these At&T and verizone or Sprint etc locked). I bought a silver HTC One and have been using it all fine and easy until I saw this blue HTC one( a used one) SO I exchanged my phone and now I have this blue HTC one...
The info from the software information is:
Android Version - 4.2.2
Sense - 5.0
Software number - 2.24.401.8
HTC SDK API level - 5.34
Kernel version - 3.4.1 - g28df0d6 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT
Build number - 2.24.401.8 CL235216 release-keys
(guess thats all there is to tell)
But apparently it is not working as it should. And by that I mean I tried hard resetting it and a weird screen came on...
it goes like this ....
TAMPERED ... and so on... and then there were other options like to Fastboot, factory reset etc that I could select from the volume keys..
So i got afraid that things are a little bit more technical than I can handle so i dint reset it.
- Now, the thing is I want to know that if my phone is unlocked than what carrier it originally was - whether resetting will lock me to that carrier or not?
- Apparently my phone was rooted ( dont know for sure, although I downloaded the root checker from play store and it says that I have root access ) SO why was it rooted in the first place. CAN it be that by rooting, my phone was unlocked from the carrier?
- IF i want to return to stock, how can I do that?
- Will returning to stock render my phone useless?
- Im upgrading to And 4.3.. but is it safe to do that with the state of my phone...?
By now, Im sounding like a complete BUM even to myself... so... but I really need help...
Unlocked network is not the same as unlocked bootlooter. Rooting will do nothing with the network lock (although there are some apps that can network unlock using root).
As for the screen you saw, that's the recovery screen which is acces via power + vol up, that's normal and is where you can reset your phone. "TAMPERED" means that the bootloader was unlocked before (to allow ROM flashing) but has been relocked to try make it stock again. I guess that means you bought it second hand?
Follow this guide if you wish to return to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358738. Make sure to take note of your CID, which you can see at the top of the recovery screen or using CID getter, and getting the RUU that matches it.
Once you followed that guide you should have a completely stock device that's got a locked bootloader, S-On and without the TAMPERED flag (so HTC does not know it's been rooted) with the stock firmware. Then just boot into the phone, set it up, and check for updates in the settings and it will upgrade to the latest version for your CID (either 4.3 or 4.4).
Ok, according to the CID getter, my CID is HTC_001, so now,
I go find the RUU for the HTC_001 and then do all that what was said above. I wanted to ask one thing before doing anything.. I bought this phone second hand.. Yes.. how can i tell that whether its and international version or an unlocked version for some network. It has no tell-tale logos of any network on it. Is there any sure shot way of telling which one is it?
Here is the info from the TAMPERED screen.. just thought about posting it so that if could further help in anyway..
***TAMPERED***
*** RELOCKED ***
*** Security Warning ***

CID tells you if it's been locked down to a carrier. HTC__001 (two _) is the unlocked UK version. So it's never been locked to a network, and I guess the previous owner just wanted to play around with cutsom ROMs.
I have managed to S-off my phone and downloaded the files required.. Im not sure about one thing.. is the kernel on my phone a stock one or what?
I have this Kernel version - 3.4.1 - g28df0d6 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT
which one is it?
hey.. can someone point me out to the right RUU for my phone..?
Im tryin to match all these things but somehow one or the other stays diff..

You need the 1.28.401.7 ruu.exe from here http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads/ruu-file-downloads/
but you will need to downgrade hboot to 1.44 before.
Now.. DO I REALLY NEED TO REVERT BACK TO STOCK?
I mean, i just found mod (maximus HD) inside my phone and flashed that using cwm.
I have no problems so far and I do not have to send the phone back for warranty or anything, so do i really need to get back to stock? Cuz i think for that my expertise are lacking atm. I just wanted to update to the latest android... but figure i can do that using the same method i did for the maximus rom... no?
Any thoughts?

its up to you, if you don't have to send the device for repair then its not needed to revert back to stock and you can use your phone with the custom rom if you like it.
Hey, a quick question...
Will wiping the phone before flashing a custom ROM wipe my recovery image too? Im using TWRP. And just before hitting wipe, i thought what if this wipes my twrp as well.. So, I stopped and rushed here... anyone?
Here is what i was gonna do.. I moved the ROM zip into the internal storage of my phone --- > went into the recovery (TWRP) using GOO app ---> was gonna do the wipe (here is where I stopped) ---- %% after the wipe, i was going to "Find in Recovery "Choose zip from sdcard" choose appropriate zip file" and then follow the Aroma installers instructions ----%% reboot.
@alray
Thanks man..
As long as I have access to this forum, I feel brave enough to continue messing around with my phone.

No, wiping will not clear your recovery partition

Hi all, I have a rooted htc m7 who I'd like to give to my niece however it's a bit problematic at the moment:
Whenever it runs out of battery or is turned off for some reason it needs to be turned on into bootloader mode and then restarted, it won't start otherwise.
Since I rooted it and am running a different bootloader, I assume that is the cause and would therefore like to un-root it and return it to how it was before I started fidgeting with it.
Some info you might want:
I'm running the stock (htc) android version: 4.4.2 - Android_Revolution_HD-One_81.0.zip
Htc sense version 5.5
Software number 4.19.401.11
HTC sdk level 5.68
Baseband 4A.14.3250.13_10.33.1150.01L
Kernel 3.4.10-g7fe1bad [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT
Build number 4.19.401.11 CL304164 release-keys

Thanks in advance for any help you could provide
P.S,
The rom also has two other problems I think my niece wouldn't like:
1. it doesn't update OTA
2. it has a red message on the screen when it boots saying that it's tampered, I know it's silly but I want it to look new...

Change your recovery some people have had issues with that one. Try TWRP 2.6.3.3 it seems to work better with ARHD. FYI, most roms don't install or change the bootloader that is done with firmware.

Your hboot is 1.44 it should be very easy to s-off and return the phone to stock. So it will get OTA and etc.
See @nkk71 Superguide here for instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541082
you can also just flash this RUU and the phone will be Stock but relocked
http://www.androidruu.com/getdownlo...10.38r.1157.04L_release_353069_signed_2-1.exe
to relock the bootloader to run the RUU
use fastboot in command prompt
with the phone in the bootloader screen (power + volume down)
bootlooder in fastboot USB (this happens when you hook up the phone to the PC)
now from command prompt use
fastboot oem lock
your now ready to run the RUU on the PC and the phone will be back to stock
