Alright, so while I'm over at Rootzwiki discussing things related to the phones and tablets I use, I seem to always come across some guy/girl complaining about how XDA has so much drama or how there are so many mean people here at xda. Personally, I don't see any difference in how people treat each other but it does seem like they sure are crying about everything...not to mention the moderators definitely play favorites and aren't very fair when it comes to settling disputes.
Thoughts??...

Meh, usually the whiners in those threads get handled. Rootz is great for getting in and out with the info you need. I wish there were more going on there, but honestly it's nice to have a site where I can get in, ask questions as needed, post issues, and discuss updates without a lot of foolishness. For the most part people there still understand what a Dev-based site is for. The foolery here is outrageous in some areas

Really?...seems like alot of the times i hop in there..I'll see a noob question and people just flaming them...now obviously i see that here as well, just seems like i see it
In every other thread i visit in rootz...hardly had any trouble here...except when a couple dildos started something on rootz then brought it to xda...
Of course, everyone's experience is different

Nothing wrong with rootz imo, I just don't use it as much because there isn't as much on there, more development happens on XDA. Although I really can't compare them since my account on rootz has maybe 10 posts.

Your right to free speech in America doesn't extend to privately owned websites.
But it is comical this thread is stil up over there....

Droid Charge powered by TSM Tweaked 3.0 w/ JellyBean 5.0
And i went and read that other thread...and i agree the guy should have done some searching first...but what i did find funny is that even the moderators are bashing that OP
Basically they are doing the same thing that they claim everyone at xda does...and that's my point...they try to act superior...as if they conduct themselves in a better manner but they bash people they exact same
Droid Charge powered by TSM Tweaked 3.0 w/ JellyBean 5.0
It's the internet. A superiority complex is practically a prerequisite.
And of course some of this stems from the fact that I've been an xda member for 3 of the last 4 years...not one problem with a moderator...a couple with users....been with rootz for 3 months...banned lol

Rootzwiki is lame because they banned a popular HTC Thunderbolt developer, [SP]Jester, from their forums today. Also another developer for the HTC Thunderbolt, trter10, removed his all in one Thunderbolt rooting/unrooting tool from rootz because of how they treated [SP]Jester.
It appears that "rootz is picking favorites, siding with specific favorite developers, and not letting people stand up for themselves."
But hey, isn't XDA supposed to be a drama-less forum?
I thought so.

I don't know about xda being drama less lol...personally i think it is...
I definitely agree with the picking favorites...i experienced this when I merely corrected incorrect facts posted by one guy and then several posts to other users who kept restarting the issue after i had tried 4 times to get back to the thread discussion...the moderator finally stepped in and deleted all my posts (none of which flamed anyone or insulted anyone or used derogatory language) but left the posts where i was being called names
Now, don't get me wrong...i could care less about being called names by some wannabe internet thug...but i thought the point of moderator was to be neutral...so i complained to the moderator, and that got me suspended...then I start this thread and within no time...I'm banned lol

It hasn't been officially released yet, but we got the leak and we've been working from there.
The leak we received from Team BAMF is being worked on at the moment, as well as a few other ROMs that are being built based on that leak.
We are only getting Sense 3.6, but another developer (newtoroot) have already ported a sense 4.0.3 ROM for us with working everything except for wifi and bluetooth.
Anyways... apparently that's where the whole argument started was that some of the developers working on the BAMF leak were dogging out [SP]Jester's ROM... which is in every way better in my opinion.
Of course, though, it's not perfected since the leak sucks with issues at this point.
I suppose some developers get too caught up on their high horse that they can't stop and credit or check out another developers work out. =/
RW is awesome, case closed.

chances are that he wont make a rom for the eris. i want it too, but the only thing you can do is just wait and see. he probably knows of all the people that want his rom so no use in bugging him, which could cause him to not come here and port it for us.
LOL I was at work and all day I was planning on asking this same question when I got off!!
Probably not, few years ago Google had issued him cease and desist order as result of early release of market app in his ROM before official launch. Ever since that day he was not allowed to included anything that are Google's, e.g. IM, Map, etc... even the driver for GSM itself, in fact he had to write his own driver to work with GSM signal, it's like asking him to do CDMA as well. Only thing we can do is have someone to port his release, using his framework and such and that might just work.
Feel free to ask him to give you his source code so that you can port it over to eris, I'm sure he'll be more than happy to do so.
I don't think he would. Right now he's only releasing N1 and G1/Magic roms because he owns a N1 and I think his wife and friends own G1's. Maybe if someone gave him an Eris then he would start? and I think he recently included the Motorola Droid because someone else ported his rom to it and I guess he continued the dev process, but don't take my word for all that lol. And if anything just ask him on http://twitter.com/cyanogen
By the way, I think this should belong in the General and not the Themes and Apps forum...
It looks like someone contacted him about it looking at his twitter he either needs to get an eris or a dev that has one to work out a port.

look man this Frame is probably in junior high if hes taking the regents like he said a little while back and as of he has created the hands down best Eris rom. Hes a young adult whos running circles around most of us. Hes going to give the rom out for free but if he wants to give some appreciation to the people who have helped support him, so be it.
If in about 200 pages of forum posts on Evil Eris this is only issue you have with him, I think its fair to say were not on the dawn of the Sith empire of greed. I think he probably said something a bit hastily and it shouldn't be blown out of proportion.
Once again Thanks frame for making the best Eris rom. I think i say this for tons of people, we appreciate the work you do and let us know anything we can do to return the favor!

where i like frameworks rom .... i would definitely disagree as to what may or may not be "hands down" the best rom ..... what is the best depends on the users likes, dislikes and needs .....
donations ...I have nothing against them .....
but there are alot of developers here that work just as hard .....
so the only thing that i see is clearly hands down the best....is the Android community and the openness of it which brings alot of choices

all around stability and his willingness to continue to strive and stay one step ahead of the game is what keeps his roms so uniquely intact and on top.

CyanogenMOD is a very small light rom that is super fast, looks really nice, has OTA updates, and is just really sleek and slick.
Cool SoCalSpecialist,
Sorry I didnt mean to come off hard, but I didn't want this guy to take heat He works to hard to be putting up with it. And I agree with you "best rom" may not be the right phrase, but I think "rom to beat" in a number of different categories would be a fair thing to say
And a note on the community. The Android community is awesome. I am currently working on getting a CCNA and a MSCE, but as soon as that's done, I would like to come back to Xda and get more involved as a developer Everyone here who develops is inspiring to those of us in IT with ****ty jobs Reading this forum helps me keep my sanity while getting support calls from people who don't know how to re-size windows.
Thanks again Frame and everyone else who is part of XDA!
Ok, I want to state first off, I haven't tried this "rom" (aka CM7 build). I have built roms for a WM phone before, but never for android.
That said, I don't know why this guy was banned. I'm not trying to get involved in any way. I noticed in his thread the mod stated he's not comfortable with someone cooking for a phone they don't own. I want to point out though, this would NOT be the first person to cook up things for this phone without owning a DInc. I do believe Kingxclick for one example never owned a DInc yet was cranking out kernals for it. I believe but not 100% sure that Ruby was started without owning a DInc also. I'm not *****ing, I'd LOVE to see more love for my DInc, but it seems kinda nuts to get upset over 1 person dev'n for a phone they don't own, but it's been perfectly ok for others to have done the same in the past. All I'm saying here is, if there's some other reason for the ban, that's fine. But the post in the thread implies it has to do with him cooking a rom when he doesn't own a DInc. If dev's aren't supposed to cook roms (or kernals) for phones they don't own, I think that it should be clearly stated somewhere. Might fix some confusion down the line.....
I completely agree. This is supposed to be a place for free thinking and free ideas. Who cares whether or not you own a device as long as you aren't intentionally trying to damage other peoples. We all know the risks of flashing something on our phones. I thought the point of this site was to promote thinking outside the box and doing what we want to with our bought and paid for devices. If that means using something someone built that doesn't own the device it was built for shouldn't that be our choice? Again if that wasn't the reason for the ban than disregard this statement.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I agree with both of these posts. Owning a device shouldn't be a pre-requisite for developing for it - there are plenty of people who do own the device who can test software for you.
As said above, if that wasn't the reason for the ban, disregard this.
Who is this about
HTC Incredible 2.3.1
Yea if he wants to make stuff for us who cares if he actually has the phone?

I read on twitter that he was banned for multiple accounts, which he denies.
AndroidBall was banned for being a duplicate account of a banned user. Same goes for R2DoesInc. Against forum rules, plain and simple.

im a big fan of xda tv, esp Sam and Azrienoch's shows, and i am currently on an EVO 4G but, the hero over the past few weeks has had some what of a renaissance also i know the MT3G, along with the slide have also had some big developments recently too such as sense 2.3.3 ports which is an even crazier feat than it getting ported to newer devices given the hardware constraints. MDPI phones are still alive and kicking i just never hear about them on the shows. other than that you guys keep me in stitches.
i feel like i will get flamed for this thread but that's just my 2 cents about it
I loved the first Gen MyTouch. Frigging indestructible. Don't follow the forum because my MyTouch wont turn on--think I bricked it. so i have seen some stuff on the portal recently things like the honeycomb hero port and the 2.3.3 sense port to the hero (i was the one who ported the port to it and im not asking for coverage or even a plug) which was then taken over by nfinitefx who did a fresh port from scratch.
but this guy SebastianFM was the first to port a wildfire S ROM to the MT3G which i then ported to the HeroC, that same Rom was also ported to the GSM hero. Also a user in the MT3G slide forum ported a cha-cha rom.
The G1, and the HeroC both have SDK honeycomb ports also which are slow but proof's of concept.
sorry if i came off like a **** in my first post i meant no disrespect just the hero holds that special place in my heart much like your mt3g does to you

So far this forum for me is a breath of fresh air. The phone forums are so full of hate, trolls, attacks, name calling, disrespecting developer's work and the usual douche stuff.
Of course its here too, just no where near as bad yet. Yet. I hope it stays that way because its so much nicer to thank people than report them.
This may be a gay post but some mods fell the same way. Anyway, glad I got the n7 and glad I'm here.

Yeah this has been awesome, reminds me of the HD2 forums, at least back when nand android became available, the vivid forums are crazy, these ones are nice.
This forum and the AT&T One X forums have been the best. The OG EVO 4G forums were good in the beginning but it got worse and worse over time. Same thing goes for the Epic 4G Touch. I know I'm guilty of some warranted snarky responses from time to time (Search first!) but I never actually attack anybody on a personal level like I've seen in some other subforums. We are all here for the same purpose so why can't we all just get along?

Why, when I was your age...
Pining for the golden yesteryear is a popular pasttime, but it's usually distorted by people's selective memory. Reminescing is futile anyway. What matters is how XDA manages the additional influx while still retaining some semblance of its core identity, and not let itself lapsed into another generic techie hang-out.
The dev sub-forum restrictions have been the main instrument in that. But it would be nice to see more care in other areas. The site's UI and layout was never good--check out the classic vs 2010 vs 2013 beta layouts--and now has turned for the worse.
We're not just talking about personal preference for aesthetics, but dirt-basic design concepts like text reflows vs fixed-width. The basic web UI now has orange-on-white. Who thinks up this stuff?
It would also be nice to see more creative solutions to navigate the huge traffic volume and decreasing sig2noise ratio. The most-recent-on-top scheme and the encouragement of long threads effectively bury most valuable info, as informative threads tend to have few inputs, and are pushed off by argumentative or more inane material. I suppose XDA is shackled by its forum software here, but one can hope for better.
Then again, maybe not.
I was a regular over at the SGT7 forums for a few months, didn't see too much name calling and stuff like that.

Don't take this the wrong way but when the US market opened up the s/n ratio plummeted.

There are many native French & German / Nordic fora although many non native English speakers from Europe speak and type better English than many English teenagers and have better manners.

I live in the US, although I'm not a native, so I empathize both sides of the coin.
That said, attributing the deterioration of online communication to any nationality or ethnic group isn't a grounded argument. English is still the lingua franca of the Internet at this point, and the US user population is still the largest group. Failings from them tend to be magnified by their numbers.
I agree that there is a marked decline in social/communicative exchanges online. It's a little sad to see people don't even bother to correct obvious spelling mistakes, let alone correct grammar. Any attempt to better such is derided as grammar nazis.
But it is what it is, and it reflects the population at large, who also exhibited a marked decline in analytic thinking and social discourse. No amount of handwringing or reminescing will change that. And it is an equal-opportunity malaise in that it affects every online population, not just the US population.
It's kind of sad...
It's a bit like saying the Nexus 7 forums only murders 10 innocent children a week so it's not as bad as other forums who murders at least 100 innocent children and their mothers on a weekly basis.
It's unfortunate but unless the moderators are extremely active (and well-staffed) chances are the trolls will ruin it for everyone sooner or later.
Especially now it's the summer and there is nothing pimply-faced 13-year-olds like to do more than to troll forums in between playing the latest shooter on their MicroSony PlayBox, stuffing themselves with greasy pizza and masturbate.

I would like to do a time frame. Where we could talk about our years here. Lets see who is the oldest and what we have gave to this forums.
Personally Ive been here since 2004-05. And basically since its started when it was hard to read the texts on my razor and this was basically Htc only.
This site has been great for me and sometimes missed the simplicity of the starting years. And I believe this forums are the true shapers on the mobile era.
Please post youre time. and a story
I have a few but ill start with loosing my first account. Dont even know how it was called!

And another reason I would like to make a timeframe so please talk about youre device history and how its been youre experience in each thread.

I got my first android in September of last year, within a month I was on xda, and by November, I had an account cause I thought I knew enough to help some folks. I do enjoy the community, even though leeches are always making devs angry (IMO, both their faults). I haven't been around as long as OP, but I know my way around the Nexus S, and android itself!

I got my Wildfire S at Christmas and it didn't take me long to decide to root it and I found xda and used a guide here to root my phone

Next time I catch you posting a ridiculously unnecessary "IB4L" post I'm going to ban you. There are more pointless posts from you around here than there are pointless threads, and that's quite an achievement.

well guys tell me, how was xda when you started and how is it now.
How It modified for better or worst?
For me it has been awesome. Ive been impressed since the beggining till mow. How guys seen to know more about devices than now.
when I started the threads were a little difficult to understand. and everything was in one main page. where you could find rhe .cab files. but you had to keep scrolling down to find what you were looking. Now its all organized and eye candy.
keep it going Lets make this thread an archive!

I haven't been here long enough to see much change but it's certainly awesome

Bro please stop that before you get banned! youre affecting the course of this thread. Im investigating abut how old is this thread and how long its been effective on the people. I think a great part that since 2003i the % of people buying smartphones has grown from a 20% to 90% has to in great part to forums like this. specially this one. people started to know about hacks and how they affect they to bennefit the costumer rather that the company.
Xda has been the pioneer when people started to know about roots and other methods of hacking the os of their devices. making them better. and having features locked by carriers. Xda has been there to keep this idea forward. and I want people to start talking about xda's evolution. and the we could take this info and make it a news letter for people to continue the tradition which we started years ago!

I for one part started to love this place when I had my Razor. I started to know about firmwares and hack. and every time I searched the web I ended here. there werent the hacks I needed then. That led me to my first account. but it was good to know this was there. and to read about people doing amazing stuff.
This led me to buy my first pocketpc-smartphone. a Treo 750 which I bought from second use and I still have it running a custom wm 6.5 rom with titanium.
Then I bought an Lg incite (wm) which kept me here but most of my time on lg-incite.com
the site grew and my fasination for htc too. not to be surpriced as most of the hacks where make for this devices.... check the history of the first diamond with manila. ( what we call now Sense)
So it led me to buy a Diamond 2
this was another revolution. I was a moderator on the htc-pure forums. but kept my profile here. and was as always morw and more in love with this site as I continued to know that the hacks came from here.
Now on the Dhd I had a bittersweet relation. many forum memebers dont like to keep tradition. But this continues to grow fast. Proof of this is the compact view.
We shall continue making history!

I have been here on xda since 11th of june 2012 thats not even six months. But this place has taught me how to do awesoome stuff with my low end phones (galaxy 5 and galaxy y ) but also taught me many more things, things which no school teaches.
I have learnt to be polite when I am angry, i have learnt to appreciate ones efforts. I have learnt to respect ones work.

Thats great. Now I see many people with budget phones. which proofs what xda stands for..... everyone should have equal oportunity to have the best phone they can.
Hacks make devices live longer and us spent less money on smartphones. But we still love them!

I've known about xda since I've had a G1 in early 2009. I didn't join until I got Sparky a MyTouch 3G (3.5mm jack) in June 2010. I'm a relative newcomer compared to some....I really put what I learned here to good use when I got my Nexus One in late June 2010....and I've had tons of phones since and I learnt more with each one.

Well I started this January. I thought that i was just going to fix my player (it was a bootloop but i thought it was a brick )and be gone but boy I got addicted to this forum. And to this date I am still addicted. Check out my thread. Its like hilarious now that I know that stuff a bit.

Yes its been a great experience!
That's the purpose I want to share how we've come from all over the world. And reshaped business. We've made companies think a bit more about their costumers, although we still need to keep this going proving them wrong in every corner. Like for example Desire Hd and ics!

Yeah man HTC were totally wrong about ICS and Sense. Forget ICS and Sense 3.6 (sorry Team Blackout and Pacha Nero) we have ICS and Sense 4.1 thanks to torxx!
And I agree we've made companies think twice about their products
