Can something be done about the constant ETA questions?

I know by my join date I look like a newb but i was here long ago when the 3gs pulled me away (i know i know).
I have noticed a drastic increase in stupidity lately in the development forums. A question being asked just two posts after it was answered. Constant "Rom abandoned/Dev gave up" and of late the famous "eta on........./when are you updating" garbage.
It normally doesn't bother me but i just read the CM thread after missing a few days and saw it asked 11 times in 4 pages. Then hopped over to Mod's thread to see it filled with people complaining he hasn't updated the desire port.
Maybe sometime down the line a new rule like "asking for Rom updates is strictly prohibited" or something similar to prevent the waste of what seems like 20% of all froyo threads. Possibly a 24hr naughty corner even.
Is anyone else on the same page here?

Hopefully the moderators get on a real mean streak and start locking all the dumb question threads but I doubt they have the time
Edit: Forgot to say to ignore the people that are the ones asking the dumb questions that will respond to this thread with: "well why did you make a thread about it if you want the forum clean?"

It's only temporary. And honestly, I think it's a good thing that a lot of people are excited about custom roms. Of course it's annoying, but I'd take it over no one caring any day.

I concur, same goes for public posting their questions/concerns in appropriate forums, tired of seeing random questions in dev forum, IMO 24hrs timeout is justified in such cases.
That just really grinds my gears...that is all

I am glad that I am not alone in being frustrated.
The problem i see is this might be considered acceptable behavior going forward.
I know personally seeing the posts kind of pisses me off I can only imagine how the dev's feel when they contribute a lot of time to making Rom's for people (and most don't make a penny doing it) and all they get is complaints that they aren't doing it fast enough.
I see this progressing into "when are you fixing trackball wake, any word on trackball wake then finally Dev's gave up on trackball wake. and this will all happen within one day of CM 6 being released.

people need to be patient, if you want an update so bad then go flash back to stock and update to official froyo
i have all the n1 forums ina separate feed in my google reader on my phone, seeing the same thread posted in each feed in newsrob is stupid

Is it just me or is the lack of Froyo turning some people on this forum into total dicks? The flaming, ASCII text, FFS comments, etc. Is it past your bed time? Is it you're taking your home or job stress out on other people? Grow up and be considerate of people once in a while.
I spent a year on the Incite forum; it wasn't as bad. Then I spent 6 months on the Pure forum and still didn't see this type of abuse. I read the whole congition forum before jumping and didn't see it this bad. It's just here in the general section. Something about this forum, phone or android is making its users very sour!
People ask for help or fire off questions without due process. Deal with it! Some people search better than others and some people don't empower themselves at all and just fire off questions before letting them sink in. I've been doing tech support for over a decade and know people come in all types. That's why we have Call in, KB's, Forums, Email, WebEx, etc... For modifying your phone or voiding your warranty; we have forums so accept everyone as they come. You stop posting your dumb ass comments and it will filter into the older pages. A simple already posted or subtle link to something already posted is more than sufficient.

If you search from the top level of the captivate forums it searches all sub forums. Your the one with all the exclamation points. If you work in a tech support field, you should really have thicker skin then you are demonstrating.

Also toning the language down in the first post a tad wouldn't hurt. You can get the same point across without being quite so confrontational.

People can be dicks about it..but they have every right to be when one someone asked a question that has been asked 20 times already,sometimes just 1 or 2 post back from where the question is asked. I understand people get in a hurry..don't read the instructions..the dog ate their homework..but come-on..

Every forum has factions that are smart asses or outright asses.
For the most part this forum is great and extremely helpful and i don't see any different tenor here than any other forum i have frequented.
+ a majority of people here have already been running froyo for sometime....so there is no lack.

Edit: I never so far had to wait for even a couple hours before someone answered any question/request I posted here..

All I ever read on androidforums are people crying about when Froyo is released. ATT this, Samsung that, no Froyo cryyyyyy. And then none of them will flash a leaked Froyo build. It's like they are all so excited for the OTA to come full of AT&T apps which they'll just try and remove anyway.

To be fair, I do expect the official build to fix a lot of bugs we're having with the leaked roms, so I can see why people would be waiting for the official release. There's a whole thread in the general section about froyo problems, most of which haven't been resolved in the custom roms.

lol... even still, i feel ya though.
When I first got my captivate I stumbled onto some Evo forums and thought that some of the conversations where quite a bit nastier than here. I was very pleased and thankful that I didn't have to deal with that while trying to decipher the unwritten language that seems to be somewhat unique to each Android device (which, IMO makes it hard to search for items with unfamiliar concepts or procedures and why we have people asking the same questions over and over... you know, besides just being lazy).
But I definitely don't think that's not as true anymore. It won't stop my addiction to reading, learning, and flashing new roms and kernels though!

[Q] Non-rooted Update for AT&T Cappy?

I posted this in the General forum & it was promptly closed & I was asked to search in this forum for an answer. Well, that didn't go so well as all I came up with was numerous posts of how to root my phone, which is exactly what I don't want to do. So, hopefully this will not be closed out as well.
I must admit that I tired of chasing AT&T & Samsung as to when the Gingerbread update would be available awhile back.
Then I saw an ad on TV that I'm pretty sure was for AT&T but another Android-based phone & they were hyping that the phone was equipped w/Android OS 4.0 so that it now rivaled the 'iCrap' phone.
Would someone please set me straight on which legit OS's have or are soon to be released () for the Cappy, or any new Samsung phone at that!

As far as Gingerbread for the Captivate well, Rogers released it for their i896 not to long ago, and so all we can do is hope for at&t to release it for us soon.
That's really all we know as far as the Captivate is concerned. This has been discussed over and over and that is why your previous thread was closed by the Forum Moderator.

As far as other Samsung phones, it would probably be better to find info on that through Google as opposed to here in the Captivate Forums.

Thanks much for the link, which was quite heavily redacted )). Your point is well taken about just doing a Google search than posting here. Besides, I don't need someone telling me to go searching through the forum posts as my question has been asked many times before. I used to have a friend connected w/XDA that I could PM for scoops & ask questions like I posted here & he was always happy to help. Unfortunately, he's gone missing!

Though this isnt exactly hating, I feel like the discussion of negative happenings at another site perpetuates hate towards them in the long run.
FTR I've found Rootz to be just as welcoming as XDA.

if your referring to my starting a 2nd rootz thread it's because the first was locked with no explanation or warning...my guess is either because i called them lame in the title thread or because some rootz fanatic is a moderator here on xda...either way, a warning should have been issued giving me an opportunity to correct the problem...instead they trolled the thread then closed it so no one could respond

No reason was needed, You were hating on another Android Developer site, the thread would've just ended in an argument probably,
It also still seems like hate, Specifying 'bad experiences' , Why not change the title to Your experience on Rootzwiki

The authority of XDA probably doesnt want that on the site as the userbase is representative of the site's image and one site that participates in the same domain hating on a another is not a good thing. In a way, just getting your thread closed is better than a warning.

It's not hate...after my experience and after hearing about a couple Thunderbolt developers who had bad experiences yesterday on rootz...I'm curious to know what other bad experiences have been encountered...there shouldn't be any arguments on this thread or the first one if people would be respectful. I'm only asking to hear other bad experiences...if someone doesn't have a bad experience then they have no need to post in this thread...

There's a difference between complaining and hating and the posts that were being discussed were complaining...had they sent a warning i could have easily changed the thread title...and btw...considering the amount of hate directed at Apple, Microsoft and many other manufacturers on this site...i don't think XDA is too worried about threads that may promote a negative image

If you have issues with RootzWiki then take it up with them. It's not our problem if that doesn't help you as this isn't a support forum for issues with other sites. Here at xda we like to be friends with everyone, so we'll have no trouble here.

About a week or so ago I was reading this article about how idiots were tricked into believing iPhones updated to iOS 7 gained a waterproof ability with the update because it activated a dormant water sensor that would detect water and turn off the phone. Needless to say, quite a few dumbasses dropped the iPhone into cups of water and now own the iBrick 5s....even dumber are the ones who posted youtube vids of them doing it...
Maybe we could start one where people put Kit-Kats on their touchscreen and get melted chocolate all over it. Just show a video with a Kit-Kat being placed on the screen and the Android EasterEgg activating (activate it with adb over wifi ) and leave a description saying "Place a Kit-Kat on your screen and, if it stays on, 5 mins later the easter egg will start".

This has been brought up before, and I do understand your point, but the Moderation Team assigned to this forum has decided that Off Topic discussion will not be allowed. We have an entire forum dedicated to Off Topic discussion so feel free to use that for all of your OT needs.
If you have a problem with Off Topic discussion in the Development forum, there are other ways of resolving the problem. You should communicate with your Developers and see what they find to be unacceptable discussion in their threads and work on a plan to minimize it. Other device forums have found that creating ROM specific Q&A/Troubleshooting, or similar reference threads in the Q&A forum, have gone a long way towards keeping the discussion in the Development threads on topic (i.e. on development).
At the end of the day, device specific Off Topic threads don't really do much for keeping OT out of the Development forums, so this, like every other OT thread created in this forum, will be closed.
