Need some help - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was trying to flash a rom using recovery(phone is rooted) but my recovery partition doesnt show all the options. There is update using zip file but no install using zip file or no advanced menu. Also when i first boot into recovery the little android dude is laid on his back with a red exclamation mark above his door lol
I have done factory resets so i think my recovery partition is shot. So can anyone point me in the right direction
Thanks.

Seems like you are on stock recovery, did you ever flash a custom kernel on you phone?

Nope your right i havent flashed any custom kernals just rooted the phone which has been working fine up until the last update and then everything got really sluggish so i decided to try a new rom.
Been a while since i have flashed any roms my last phones hd2 and sg2 i did quite a few without problems and this note i just never got around to it until it was unbearable.

To flash cwm recovery on Note you need to flash some safe kernel either using pc odin or mobile odin and once you have cwmr you can flash custom rom .zips. I am not sure about sg2 but HD2 was totally different, that magldr and clk stuff
Also, I am not sure how come you are still not aware but do not wipe or factory reset Note on stock ICS kernels, you will brick you phone.

No need to wait to download that kernel as there's also the SpeedMod kernel you can download(http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2012/05/samsung-galaxy-note-ics-download.html) and it'll do the same thing as the Hydra one)

[Q] Criskelo ICS ROM v2 install

hi there,
first off, im sorry for being a total noob.
i was trying to look for a full guide to install Criskelo ICS ROM v2.
i found an online guide from the site rootgalaxynote dot com
but its for the older version.
i was wondering if i can do this step but install using the V2 or follow the steps, install the older version then use clockworksmod to load v2?
once again, please accept my apologies as i have never touched an android in my life.. im so new, my note is still in the mail and i havent even received it yet.
Go the the development section find criskelo v2 and follow the instructions in the first post? Why go to another site when the instructions are right here
.....

hi there,
i was there, the thing is that i want to make sure i understand the instructions the instructions
From GB:
Install ics repack by chainfire via mobile odin-reboot-reboot into revovery-full wipe-install criskelo ics.

so before i run the steps above, i should install clockworkmods and titanium backup to backup my current rom and apps rite?
then i download the ics repack by chainfire and the criskelo v2 mod
then install mobile odin and install the mod?
Very simple as ABC.
First you use PC odin and flash a single file called chain fire repack.tar
This ROM is already rooted.
Boot up and install triangleaway1.25.apk
Copy your ROM to SDcard
Reboot to recovery using the CWM app in Your note
Wipe data.factory reset wipe the other one below the list. I forgotten the name
Wipe devalik cache from advance settings
Install the zip file called Criskelo or any other ROM from Sdcard.
Once you are done reboot and enjoy your new rom.

This does however increase the binary counter thus voiding warranty. By taking some extra steps you'll be able to upgrade to any ICS rom without increasing the binary counter.
What I did was I flashed one of the pre-rooted roms found in a thread in the dev section. After that I flashed the CF Root kernel for the rom I installed (I used the pre-rooted LA6 rom so I used the CF kernel for LA6).
Now you have full root and CWMR so you can flash any rom you like. For ICS roms, install Mobile Odin, flash the ICS LP1 repack, reboot to recovery, do a full wipe and install any ICS rom you want to try.
Pre-rooted stock roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
For CF-Kernel check step two "2. I Want ROOT + CWM" of this thread and download the appropriate files for the pre-rooted kernel you flashed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360

To my knowledge Triangle Away only does exactly what is says, it will remove the yellow triangle after you've flashed a custom kernel through pc Odin and thus having triggered the binary counter. To my knowledge Triangle Away is not able to reset the counter though I could be wrong as I've never used it myself. There is however a thread explaining how to remove both the triangle and reset the counter using a usb JIG: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354888
Counter is reset
using triangle away does reset the counter as well as removing the triangle also says your rom is samsung original even if it is not!.
you must use the correct ics version to do this one that does work is I9220LP1-N7000-ICS-REPACK worked just fine on my note. It does not work on all current versions of ICS. enjoy
Thanks a lot for the info! I really didn't know and I thought I read somewhere that it didn't reset the counter.
does the triangle away work for GB phones? just wondering
No

Other way you could try
Hi, maybe you already flashed, but this is how I did it. No problems at all.
Starting from stock GB. (Or you can flash stock through ODIN)
Used CF-Root to get Root and CWR on the phone.
Downloaded and flashed Abyss Kernel 4.2
rebooted recovery
flashed ICS ROM from sdcard.
Worked perfectly well for me.
Hope this helps.

As soon as you flash the rom, abyss kernel will be overwitten (you get CWM).
Now a piece of advice, there are great risk on flashing any rom based on leak repack, there is an issue with the kernel and the eMMC, which basically can fry your phone (if you are unlucky).
I personally decided to flash back to stock GB.... just in case. I'm not willing to gamble with my note, but that is me.

[Q] Failed downgrading from ICS leak, no charging, bootloop after flashing GB PC Odin

Hi!
So i figured i wanted to get of the faulty ics leak in order to keep my phone safe, but it seems I was able to do the exact oppsite...
I will try to make a detailed overview of what I did, here we go.
I was using Stunner on CLP5. Followed this guide to do the downgrade:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr3DDEh8vyc&list=UUlVIlK8QHZ2PFkXF97bA0lg&index=5&feature=plcp
What i did:
Flashed the Abyss kernel - rebooted
Wiped with the new recovery
Flashed rocketrom
Got stuck on bootloop. (I should've probably done another wipe here, am i right? )
After flashing Rocketrom, I once again got a new recovery, I figured I was on a safe kernel and recovery now so instead of trying wiping or a different rom, I was stupid enough to do a restore of a backup of a stock rom with root I had from December when i bought the phone.
This made everything even worse, my battery drained and I was unable to charge my phone through USB or 220v. Luckily I got my friend to charge my battery (same phone)
Booting up my phone agian, I was no longer able to acess recovery, but I still had acess to Download mode.
I flashed a stock GB rom successfully through PC Odin, and yet AGIAN I was stuck at bootloop. The file I flashed was a single .tar file. I didn't select update bootloader, should i try this? maybe re-ptartitioning?
I still have acess to download mode.
Has anyone got a clue how to fix this mess?
Thanks for all replies!

Please, pit partitioning seems to get thrown out there like smarties but imo should only ever be used as a very last resort as a lot can go wrong.
Have you tried wiping cache and dalvik? Sorts out reboots 99 percent of the time.

If you are using the OC kernel maybe that is causing some issues. As you are in a safe kernel, you can try to flash the standard version of Notecore in CWM recovery.

Since you cannot even boot in cwm recovery so flashing kernel through cwm seems impossible, try flashing STD kernel using PC odin (if you can handle yellow triangle and all) OR simply flash rooted GB again.

Hi Thanks,
But as my Note cannot even move after animation, at the start point as it load the process, the processes stop, and after a while reload the process but fail. Then after a period reboot. I cannot use mobile odin as I cannot even get to the UI. Any suggestion.
I also realised the newer ROMs come with all the stuff in one package(kernel, modem, csc).

I've heard that CWM could brick my phone.
Update: I tried using Odin again, i put N7000XXLPYkernel.tar in the PDA section, and started.
Everything seemed to go well, and Odin said Pass!
Still stuck with the yellow triangle, the phone isn't booting ..

After a flash you have to perform the 3 wipes, can you get into recovery?

Sorry didn't reply, was a bit busy, but glad you got it sorted. Custom kernels are supposed to be flashed in cwm not with pc Odin. There is an issue with temporary cwm.exe, but cwm that's included with kernels works fine.
