Noticeable differences in Nexus 7 build quality - Nexus 7 General

My friend and I got our nexus 7 about a week apart at different Walmarts. While I was installing some apps on his that I thought would be useful, I noticed some very slight differences.
The one that stood out the most me was that his volume rocker and power button were more crisp than mine. Every time you pressed it, there was a snap back and an actual click sound, while with mine, the feedback is more mushy and doesn't make a noise at all unless I attempt to find a sweet spot for it lol. Also I noticed the aluminum bezel on his was much more angular to where you could almost scrap your skin with it , where as mine was more rounded. His screen would also shut down and wake up about a couple milliseconds before mine every single time. I chalked it up to him having less apps possibly.
Hope this doesn't come off as complaining cause I LOVE my nexus 7 and its flawless, no screen lift or anything. I just was wondering if anybody else noticed such discrepancies.

my power button is mushy but my volume rockers are perfect...also got mine at walmart

I got mine on initial release from google store and my volume and power buttons do make a clicking sound when they are pressed and they snap back well, no mushiness

My volume down is the only button that does not have the best feedback when pressed.

This XDA community is a funny one. People spend more time staring, feeling up and trying to find flaws in their Nexus 7 then actually just using it.

Our maybe they are just using it and noticing the flaws, if they have any.

Yes, I noticed the difference in buttons. I've had two nexus 7's. One with great buttons and the other with mushy buttons, especially the Power button, that almost sticks to the point where a normal press and release of the Power button triggers the Power Off option instead of just turning off the screen.

True... but there are manufacturing defects. 723 votes in the defective from store poll and over 500 votes in the type of defects poll. I know this is very small percentage, but these are active users on XDA excited about their new device and having problems, defects and seeking help.
Its a brilliant device no doubt, but I still think many here are waiting for its 3rd or 4th generation builds. I personally don't have the confidence (nor bandwidth) to chase a defective unit. Going to wait until March next year...
Worse thing is there is no official response from either GOOG or ASUS about the manufacturing defects, nobody has any idea exactly if there is an improvement in the new builds or its trial an error still. I cannot wait to get mine, but have decided to wait.

Actually Asus is an up and coming company which i recently bought stock in. The future is bright for Asus.
It's customers like XDA'ers they need to avoid. The casual customer wont care about a 100 micron lift on the screen.

Up and coming? Where have you been? ASUS has been manufacturer high end PCs, laptop, tablets and pc components for over 2 decades... They pioneered the netbook and nettop pc. They are and/or were also the ODM for Apple, Sony, Dell etc..
Acer, was created by ex ASUS employees...

Coming from somebody who's screen magically cracked without me dropping it, I would still say the N7 is one of the best tablets out there, hands down. Initial product release is always a risky time for consumers, and I knew that walking into it. You can say that it should be perfect from the get-go and yeah I would agree, but replace the N7 with anything else, whether it be the iPad, a TV, a Chevy pickup truck, it doesn't matter. Lemons exist, especially during the initial run. Couple that with the fact that there are thousands of people who never complained about their N7 and the greater picture becomes a little clearer. Forums by nature tend to attract enthusiasts of that product as well as negativity since users with issues tend to seek out a place to vent (forums being a nice target), whereas the majority of people wouldn't bother to seek out a place to speak highly of the product - they'd rather utilize that time USING that product. I think my opinion is further swayed to the positives because ASUS *did* fix mine under warranty. Granted, I called them a few times so they knew my level of frustration before they even had a chance to work on it, but the end result was a 100% functional fixed unit. I'm a fan.
Love my Nexus 7. Only complaint was that I was cheap and purchased the 8GB version. The 16GB would have been a better match.
Just got mine yesterday and Im loving it, its a c80, the only problem I found is the crackling sound that it makes when I unlock it or select something, only problem so far, hope not to get one of the other major issues...
I unlocked and rooted mine the day I bought it (a week ago).
All went well via RomManager Premium, until I tried flashing a Rom.
Which then took into boot loop for a day or so.
Eventually got it back to life via Nexus Toolkit (Wugs).
Now left it in Stock mode using NOVA Launcher Prime and all is good!
Best 7" Tab ever, and I used to own a Sammy 10.1 Tab.
Awesome value for money.
Thumbs up to Android/Google! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Same here. I'm so tired of seeing all this negativity through the Nexus 7 threads. My device is literally perfect. I've had it for about a month the now and love it more each day. No issues whatsoever, and receiving my Portenzo Bookcase in the mail the other day was the icing on the cake!!! I love this thing. Very affordable, and for the money, I got much, MUCH more than I bargained for. I'd gladly pay 250$ or even a bit more for a product of this caliber.

That's the problem, mate.

Is it possible that there will not be a dock

produced for our devices? I mean, if not by now, when?
I think Google jus assumed the aftermarket would step up and offer docks for the nexus pogo pins but they have not. Now it looks like they are going to wireless charging which they should have done in the first place. The vzw Galaxy Nexus never really got a dock either fwiw.

It took Google forever to release a dock for the Galaxy Nexus. We know they were supposed to release one in September.....
I say wait until this Google event after the hurricane, if no news by then, you can start doubting if it will ever come out.

I'm willing to give it a last ditch hope, that MAYBE they want that new picture screen saver dock feature in Android 4.2 first.
Though I admit I'm beginning to sound delusional. I just can't imagine not making a dock for a product pushing one million units a month. Can't even fathom it.
I wouldn't be surprised if a dock is coming soon. The newer kernel branch has support, the older doesn't. There would be little reason to do this if they didn't plan to ship one.
With the new family of Nexus devices coming out I'm sure we'll see a dock soon.

I Love the Nexus 4

So I've noticed a trend on the forums here that the vast majority of threads here are negative. Of course, there are valid reasons for this. However, I believe that the majority of us are actually super happy with our phones.
I don't want people to come here and think that we all are angry about this phone. I wanted to create a thread that looked good where us shiny, happy people can talk about the great things about this phone.
I know mods have shut down similar threads already, but I figured I'd give it a go. We need some positivity here!
For myself, this is by far the fastest, smoothest phone I've ever had. Not saying a lot considering what I've had, but the ion at least was supposed to be excellent and was an absolute dog compared top the nexus 4. I have not had any of the issue people seem to he complaining about.

New HTC Ones

Does anyone know when HTC will ship new batches of the One? The defects (gap and raised screen) will probably be fixed by the time the 2-3 batches are released so does anyone know when they will be shipped? I upgrade in July and am hoping all these problems are gone by then

I Wonder why all the blogs and sites don't report on the ordeal that is getting a N5

since they were all over the leaks before launch, now everybody is just silent about the bad joke that is actually getting your phone in your hands.
This is nothing compared to the Nexus 4 launch!

Why would they fill a blog with the fact that the nexus 5 sold well and are in short supply. It happens with lots of phones. Nothing new here.

This because it depends a lot on where you are and the stock levels as well...
Some people have a great experience but don't necessarily need to go on a forum to shout about it...
For what it's worth, in the UK, I ordered mine on a Thursday afternoon, received it the next day

I don't think it's as big of an issue as you perceive it to be. I think the majority of people who ordered got their phone in a reasonable time. But LG can only crank these things out so fast, once Google's warehouse runs out, some unlucky people are gonna wind up waiting for the next shipload to come in. That's life...
Please use one of the existing shipping/ordering threads for this discussion
