Years ago I had a Panasonic phone where Contacts could be refereced by small sound file. Like Voice sort of but stored localy and with better accuracy. A bit like gesture but with your voice. I miss this simple function but can't find an app for it. Any ideas?

A swift Google search landed me with this paid app, Voice Speed Dial. Think this is the specific app OP is looking for, from the description of app
The voice recognition is highly accurate because you create a "voice tag" in advance for each person you would like to call. It's quick, easy, and allows the app to recognize virtually any voice (there is no language barrier).

May be, OP can give it a try.
Disclaimer: I have not used the app, just suggesting it :fingers-crossed:
Thanks for your help guys! I will have a look at it.

anyone else tried this yet. I think its amazing and makes finding someone tons easier than scrolling through people to find the exact person. kicks add if you haven't try it you should.

if u like it hit thanks ..
thanks
All u have to do is search the market for speaktoit assistant
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.speaktoit.assistant&feature=search_result
Well? Where is the link?

nice!!
does anyone know if this works through blue tooth?? so i can use it while i drive?
That is not bad, though I find it slow. You can also try the one listed on the Market called Voice Actions. Does not have the graphic interaction of Speaktoit but works faster and smoother from me trying both out each for a couple of weeks.
Check out iris. (alpha)
I installed iris and it says I have no speech input, when I press the button nothing happens. I'm running espresso ROM.

You have to have voice search installed. And also Pico tts, I hope that helps.
I'm on espresso as well.

Imo voice search is all you need. right now these other programs are not much better than voice search. all you benifit from these voice apps is a robot voice that talks back to you.
Hi there. I am throughougly enjoying my Xperia Z (an upgrade from iPhone 5). The only thing I miss from iPhone was that while I was riding my bike, I would be able to speak to Siri and request her to play specific songs or artists for me on the go. I can't seem to get this feature to work on Android.
What I'm looking for: A feature that with the press of a button on a handset/headset enables you to talk to your phone and request it to play a song.
Can this be done?
Thanks.
Does Voice Search do it?

Yea, android version of Siri is Google now, you can easily access it sliding with your finger from home button down your screen to the any place on top.

Plus one for Google now Def plays songs, videos, answers questions, checks calender, sets reminders, makes calls, emails, texts, really everything siri does but not as much personality plus the cards are useful and it seams as each update improves it

I use Robin - the Siri Challenger. Check the play store for it.
Thanks so much for your feedback, everyone. I recall having issues getting the android default voice assistant to play me music on the go. Can anyone 100 % confirm any voice assistant (default or otherwise) being able to playback music by vocal command?

Second this, is not the same nice voice I had on my one x. Is there a way to change or download a different module?

Supposedly, should go to settings - controls - language and input - text-to-speech (TTS) options - Samsung TTS engine and press configure cog. Then install voice data and download high quality voice female, but it doesn't do anything (in my case just a popup window that says it will download and nothing else happens). Can you please check this on your device also? It might be a software bug

You have to have Samsung apps enabled.
At&t Note III...& At&t G Pro
I did that too and mine downloaded but still Samsung voice. On Google map it used to be more human voice .

Yup, same here. I want the Google voice, not the HD samsung voice.
I have this problem on my Huawei P6, and from doing reseach I believe it's the TTS. If you look at under language and input, there is no Google-Text-To-Speach engine, but instead just the Samsung one.
I still couldn't find a way to download (or where to download the app for that matter) the Google TTS engine.
I hope some can figure this out, because that Samsung voice is really annoying. The funny thing is, Google Now have the correct voice/sound.

in the text to speech menu under advanced samsung has HD voice downloads and they all sound really good. and there free
I took a peek on the link provided as far as a work around for this issue/annoyance, and seems like a lot of work.
Anyway, I've found an easier solution. You have to be rooted and have Titanium backup. Not sure if it will for everyone, but it sure works on my phone.
All I did was freeze the Samsung TTS engine, and like a miracle my Google maps now sounds wonderful (it use the Google voice/speech) now.
Let me know if this works for you guys.
I'm happy now.

If you do this then when using navigation it will not say the name of the streets. It will only say turn right in 1000 feet.

This ^^^ /Agreed. That's probably why it's called voice guidance
Voice sound
Google's map navigation function is pretty better than apple's. It shouldn't be lead you to lost at a different location.
