Hello everyone,
I'm new to this rooting terminology. It was my first attempt after i saw this post, nightly build with CM10 to upgrade my phone OS to jelly beans yesterday. Have read the instruction and the first step was telling me to root and install clockworks recovery so i've google with the model of my phone and the android ver. of the phone that i have. And i found this:
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s-gingerbread-xwjw1-root-52954/
By following the instructions exactly of what it given until step 9 i failed. The phone keep rebooting and never stops. I've spent half an hour waiting and i though this is how it was and it still keeps rebooting. So i took the battery off and restart the phone it didn't stop rebooting.
Has anyone have the same experiences that i had before? i'm not sure why is this happening as i followed the instruction exactly what to do and that rooting guide. I'm pretty sure that i'm running XWJW1 (there is a row saying i'm running XWJW6) but i don't see where does it goes wrong.
If anyone could tell me what's happening would be great. I a noob i know lol.
Thank you
Update: I've just tried by following a different tutorial from here:
http://phanse.wordpress.com/2012/01...ial-on-samsung-galaxy-s-gt-i9000/#comment-775

just run through My Android Solutions , link below for Odin getting Stuck to resolve your problem
first if you can go into dowload mode flash a kernel with odin and you would have a custom recovery next do factory reset. Pass the room you want to flash with recovery to sdcard, reboot recovery, format /system,wipe cache and dalvick-cache and next install a zip from sdcard you would have cm10 for example ¿ok?

Hi Guys,
thanks for the replies. I've got my phone back to work again by following a different tutorial. Now my phone are installed with XXJVU. but i've found that the swipe typing features has gone, not sure how can i get that back. I guess i'll attempt to root and install clockwork in a few hours later. If anyone have good tutorials for GT-i9000 with XXJVU installed would be really appreciate

Dear All,
Have tried searching for a solution to my problem, was unable to find one - apologies if this has already been answered somewhere.
My Galaxy S has never been able to use the 3 button recovery/download, so when I wanted to install a custom ROM, thought it would be a good idea to fix that
First I went to RazvanG's thread here , and realised I needed to sort some other issues first, namely to root and downgrade my recovery file from 3e to 2e.
These are the steps i followed:
1. Rooted using z4Root
2. Installed Busybox
3. Followed steps in reschi85's thread here
4. Rebooted
All seemed fine when I rebooted, phone started fine.
However, when I then went to the next step of RazvanG's, namely to boot into recovery, the phone has hung on the Galaxy S logo screen, and will not budge.
Have tried using adb to reboot into download/recovery mode, no change. cannot get the phone to start now, and since I hadn't managed to get the fix applied, my 3 button fix will not work.
Please help!
Thanks in advance,
Sun
Petr0v has an excellent topic on getting 3 button recovery working. I used the odin method and it takes 5 minutes in all. You actally have to get download mode working first before anything as its very important. Once done you could have flashed cf root using odin and would have had 2e.
If taking out the battery for a few minutes doesn't work your only option will be to force it into download mode using the jig then flashing a fresh firmware with odin. There are topics on here on making your own homemade jig. I've also seen them selling on ebay here in Australia for $20usd. Good luck.
Edit: TheBeano has a topic on how to make you own jig.

Hi,
I really need your help. I have Samsung Galaxy S with CM9 on it. Few hours ago my phone went into boot loop and then it switched off. When I am trying to turn it on all I can see is the triangle with exclamation between phone and PC symbol. I cannot go to recovery mode but I can go to downloading mode. I have been looking for solution for over 3 hours and nothing. I've tried ODIN but it did not work. Oding got stuck on factory.fs.
Any ideas, please?

Hey, man. Same problem here. It seems that my cellphone is with its memory full, then I can't upload any rom to it. Any ideas?
I have spent whole night on this but still I am in dead end. Maybe it is because of memory but I am not sure and I can't really check. Help please.

Just saw this on another forum about how to force a phone into recovery mode:-
There is another Method but I am not sure of it's effectiveness in 900X
Please Try the Following Step By Step:
First Turn Off the Device and Remove the Battery
Press and Hold both Volume Up and Volume Down Keys
While still holding the Keys Enter the Battery into the Phone
This Method has been effective in the GT-9000i and Nexus S.
Peace.

Here is another link that might be useful. I think your phone is "soft bricked". Using this method you will download all the files that the device needs. Hope it doesn't wipe your phone!
http://androidforums.com/vibrant-tips-tricks/223806-guide-fixing-bricks-odin-errors.html
I downloaded ODIN and Gingerbread 2.3.4 firmware but I cannot flash my phone. ODIN does not respond, sometimes it gets stuck on setupconnection and sometimes on zImage.
EDIT.
Finally I have made some progress. After hours of flashing my blue bar on the phone finally reached half. Should I wait more or it is 100 percent sure that some error will come up? I am tired if this soft bricked phone already and I don't really know what to do. IMO I should just wait couple more hours and see.
try getting a jig which will force your your phone into download mode
I am in download mode, no problems with that but flashing takes ages.
hi
Did u get off your sim card and external sdcard, turn off the Kies? Check all drivers for your phone?

check out this vid might help you it helped me i soft bricked my sgs about 7 times does your head in trying to sort it good luck
Okay, so I have installed Speedrom kernel earlier, then tried to flash ICSSGS, and after it restarted the phone, it went to the Samsung Captivate logo. I reflashed Speedrom via Heimdall. Once it restarted I continued into reflashing ICSSGS from CWM. It continued installing, and I selected the options I wanted (I tried both kernels, to no avail). After it said it was done and restarted I was greeted by the Samsung Captivate logo. I have been stuck here ever since.
I was running I897UCKB2.
I can access download mode, recovery, I can flash new recoveries and new roms. However no roms actually flash. I have searched all over and can not seem to find anyone with exactly the same results. Maybe I am searching the wrong terms.
I have tried Kies, but can not get into the phone, so I can not use it. I have tried odin3 1.7, I have also tried several odin one click setups, all of which connect to the phone, and attempt to install, 2-3 hours later, or even 8 i come back to it still frozen. When I restart the phone I am stuck at the /!\ screen. using the UnBrickable mod, I can get it back into recovery, I can not get it to go any other way besides UnBrickable Mod.
I also can not access ADB or fastboot, it is always waiting on the device.
I am at a complete lost here. Tomorrow I plan on launching Ubuntu and seeing if I can fix the issue.
Does anyone know why the ROMs are ot flashing correctly?
edit: I should add that after attempting to install ICSSGS my phone is no longer recognized at i897 and incapable of installing CM9. After changing the build.prop I am still unable to get it to recognize. As of now attempting to install CM9 installs CWM 5.5 and reboots, and then never does anything.
Try using nexus drivers on ur pc.
Then if u can get into download mode, flash to stock of ur choice and then use TRusselo's Guide, that is stickied in the Q & A forum, to proceed further.
U can use the /!\ screen as a download screen.

I woke up this morning with it still stuck at Firmware upgrade. My computer went to sleep during the night.. Thought I had turned it off. Luckily it looks like when I turned it on, Odin One-Click for 2.1 started up and started flashing it. Phone restarted and actually appears to be doing something.
So I guess Flash Odin Twice?

As for Trusselo's Guide, its the one I followed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350266
Doesnt flash ROMs for me. I tried it again in Ubunutu. It is a no go. I am not as experienced as I'd like to be flashing, but its not a hard process, So I am very unsure as to whats going on that flashes are not working. Well ROM flashes at least, I now am running, Eclair 2.1-update1. I am going to try to flash a new bootloader, the e2 and see if I can maybe get around the issue I am having.
Not sure why things are not going good for u according to TRusselo's Guide...??
Be sure and read plenty before u flash. Know what u r doing and the risks. Newer Stickied Threads in the Captivate Forums r ur friend.
I tried flashing a few more times, and got nothing. I began to give up, but last second tried installing CM9 Nightly, it went through finally. Haven't done anything different. I checked the videos I recorded to see if I had did anything different. Only Difference is flashing the bootloader twice before running CWM to install CM9.
Glad that nightmare is over. Girlfriend should be very excited that it is working. Now if I only had a 100% Sense free and 100% working ICS for my Amaze.
Thanks for your help.
Glad u got it going. Thx for reporting back.

I was trying to root and install a custom ROM on my phone when this happens.
I suffered 3 kinds of brick that I recognized from reading the forum's guides.
So here's the story:
I install SuperUser and CWM through the stock recovery mode.
After that I tried to wipe everything with CWM from my phone as I wanted to downgrade from my update Official ICS back to the stock GingerBread ROM. (This is to prevent any problems to install the new custom ICS. Read on forum also*)
During the wipe, CWM got stucked at somewhere at the start of the process (Forgotten what it was). It was about more than 15minutes before I made my decision to stop it by holding the power button. Obviously this caused a bootloop or something like a soft brick (Stuck at boot screen).
After the first brick encounter, I tried to fix it by flashing the stock GingerBread ROM directly with Odin without wiping anything as it was stucked in the first step. By doing this, I think I had a Super Brick as the installation also got stucked at loading factoryfs.img image file. There's no solution to this as I looked up in the forums for quite some time.
So, I cancelled the installation and my phone wouldn't start up again. There's no sign of battery charging when plugged in and it wouldn't start by holding the power button. Unable to access recovery/download mode. Odin also didn't recognize my device.
Can anyone here kindly advice me on what should I do now? In deep sad mode -.-

my suggestion is to read this and run before you get bombarded http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321268

It should be in Q&A forum....Moderators please move it to appropriate forum.....
Stop irritating him. How do you feel if your phone got bricked and don't know what to do.
Coming to the topic. You did not follow basic steps, you used the wrong method of rooting that to on ICS. Don't think that your phone is bricked. Did you flash any custom kernel. I think you were trying too many things and your phone is dead. This happened to me once, I thought my phone is bricked and didn't know what to do. But I remembered I had a external battery adapter charger and charged my battery separetly and know what it worked. Try charging your phone separetly.

Have you read the post quoted below?

Please read and see if it helps. Or maybe you have already tried the process outlined.
All the best to you.
I'm sorry to post in the wrong section of the forum. It was my mistake to not read instructions carefully.
Now I have sent it to the service center and waiting for their response. But I didn't do anything like put my phone in the microwave or anything.
So does that means they will find out that I did something to my phone and void my warranty?

Great! Have Happy Times Flashing Safely! Cheers.
Hi there,
My phone has started trying to reboot every 3 seconds. Where can I download an Android OS and how do I flash it onto my phone?
First time threader, not a techie. Be gentle.
I have also just started having this issue! Would be great if someone has some advice.

i smell conspiracy
however, i think you should just read up on some tutorials, there are tons of them out there

didnt work for me, also bought a new battery, because other sources said this might be the cause of the bootloop. didnt work either. i have the stockrom 4.1.x
that i rooted a long time ago. so i will try to flash a custom rom on it, see if it works
---------- Post added at 01:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:01 PM ----------
i have one question left though: do i need odin to flash the rom, or is it enough to select the corresponding option in cwm? i did read several tutorial about that, most are with odin. my head hurts from the information overload, since i barely have any knowledge about modding android.
a brief answer is appreciated
edit: found the answer x)
So i tried installing cyanogenmod 11 with cwm, but my device keeps booting (half an hour so far) -> apparently i screwed up.
i attempted to restore my backup, but the problem is that the boot error is even present in recovery mode, so i didnt manage to restore it yet. any ideas on how to proceed`?

i forgot to update the thread, sorry about that x).
actually i managed to resolve my problem already and successfully installed cyanogenmod 11. also, the booting error is hardware-based. i realized that it occasionally occured after pressing the power button. apparently the button "presses itself" for longer after using it and this causes the restart. a lot of samsung-users seem to have this problem.
thank you nevertheless for your reply
