Your advice needed please - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I've recently flashed my Galaxy Ace to mclaw's RC2, I really like the rom but the problem being is the sound and camera aren't working. Tried to apply the RC2 patch provided by him but then the phone just gets stuck on boot animation. Is there any other stable cm9 builds that I can flash safely from mclaw's one? Secondly if I want to go back to gingerbread can I safely just restore the backup I had made using cwm or do I have to flash back using Odin? (would be appreciated if someone could give a link to a odin flash guide)
Lastly I assume all CM9 builds have been halted to focus on CM10 builds, in light of this, would I be better off flashing CM10?
Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers

if you want some other cm9 try the one by waylandace..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1868121
and you can restore the last nandroid backup if you have.. better to wipe everything and restore.. nothing will happen to your phone

i use the cm9 rc1 for long time, for me is the better until now, the cm9 have some bugs, especifically on camera with deep sleep etc.
i recommend rc1 not nearly gave me no error or bug.
try and tell us your feedback ;
Good luck ! :good:

Thanks for the replies guys.

[Q] stabelest nightly?

Dear community sweet community of knowers-all
Which is the stablest nightly of them all?
I should just grab newest?
Sent from my windows phone while driving to pick up my touchpad:-D
Im using aokp milestone 5. I like it! In terms of stability all the recents rom are pretty much the same. Some just have more features.
Newest. They have all been stable.
~E.R.A.
I was running AOKP M4 for a while and it was pretty decent... upgraded to M5 and had some issues.
Switched to the latest nightly of CM9 (0430-nightly)... and love it! Best wifi experience with an ICS rom yet and performance is top notch...
i done screwed up
guys,
I think i've been following the guide to a T, aside from using a nightly .zip instead of the alpha they mention, . .. butt ...
After it's all done I see Moboot. I ask to boot cyognemod and it shows cyogenmod logo for about a minute then it just reboots and goes into the Moboot again.
Have I missed a step?
I have tried and checksummed (before running the script) both 28 and 30 CM9 nightlies, the latest ones. Everything looked fine until I tried to turn it on after the script finished.
Any ideas?
*EDIT I need to read more, and discover ACMEInstaller2
p.s. cwm works, yay.
Thanks for your help!
Yaaay!
ACMEInstaller2 was the culprit. I hope the guide is updated somehow to mention that if you're trying cm9 that you should use the different script.
yaay thanks for the advices. it's nice to know they don't release nightlies that would have regressed a previous version!

[Q] Gingerbread Stock Rom or Cyanogenmod 9

Hello guys
I need you help to decide either to stay to my stock gingerbread rom or root my phone and install cyanogenmod 9 on my Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000
Please tell me which one is more stable and better to use..
Thanks in advance
Should just go with Cyanogenmod 10 Nightly. I use my phone every day and get no random reboots, stability issues or incompatible features/apps. Everything seems to work great. I can't see much of a reason to use CM9 since CM10 works so well
I moved to CM10 from XXJW4 2.6.4 and have no plans on rolling back.

Go with CM10! very recommended!
if you want, here there is a tutorial that shows you how to ROOT
your Galaxy s1 stock ROM 2.3.4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k274AsTleAc&feature=plcp
I've been using CM9RC2 for a few months now and it's good. I find it a lot more stable and a lot faster than stock. However, I find I miss a lot of the small things about the stock ROM that just aren't in CM. The Contacts app is poor (can't link contacts, no Facebook integration) as is the stock Calender and the default music player that comes with it is atrocious.
If you can live with those, or are willing to pay for some appropriate replacement apps then I can definitely recommend going with CM
I'm always on gb, lately JW7 gb rom, ext4 format, Semaphore 2. 7.4. Reliable and fast.
Since a week I turned on a CM10. I like a lot, it's stable but very battery drainy and no faster than my previus gb JW7.
I think GB is still the best for our poor i9000...
Inviato dal mio GT-I9000 con Tapatalk 2
I switched from Samsung GB to CM9 when it became stable mi-August (now I'm on CM9.1).
I don't plan to switch to CM10 until it is stable (or at least in RC stage) => and I hope it will become stable before 4.2 goes open source and pawitp starts working on next CM!
For me, my phone is much better with CM9: less reboots (I only had one in two months instead of one per week with GB).
My phone is generally more enjoyable: it is difficult to point specific functionnalities (there are many), but the user experience has been a big focus for Google in ICS, and the result is really great for me. I like stock applications a lot (even though contact app may indeed have less functionnalities than Touchwiz one). One the other side, I could not say if the phone is faster or not: so it your main concern is speed, the switch won't change much (unless you go with CM10 which is supposed to be faster). Main drawback for me is that MMS don't work anymore, but I guess it's a problem very specific to my case as I didn't find other people having my problem (and as I didn't use MMS a lot, I didn't take time to investigate heavily the issue).

Just pull out the battery and then insert it after couple of minutes. Then power on while pressing 3 button combo and go to the download mode. Start Odin 1.7 in your PC and try to flash any stock gb rom.

[Q] Stuck with Ginerbread 2.3.6, Slowdown. Need Help

Hi Guys,
I am a Galaxy S user. My Galaxy S was bought in Finland and still running (basically stuck with) Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU). The phone's hardware is just fine (except slow GPS) but it has become paninfully slow and sometime shutting down/restarting on it's own.
Is it a good idea to reset the existing GingerBread 2.3.6 or get a different ROM?
I am a total novice and have not tried any other ROMs on it. I did some research about the alternative ROMs but there are so many options it made me really confused.
Could you guys suggest any stable and fast option for my Galaxy S i9000?
Also, if you could guide how I could migrate to that particular ROM from present Gingerbread, it would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance for your support and for this great forum.
Cheers

Hi,I'm not going to be much help as I'm a noob myself but I can say I had same stock laggy gt 19000 which through like u said a lot of confusion about rooting and ROMs researching XDA and YouTube you can do it my galaxy s is like a new phone so stick with it,one tip is always stick to you model and kernel version and write things down and I hope it goes as well as it did for me. Btw I used Odin 3.1 and clockwork to root and Flashed ROM with Cm 10.1 stable.

if you want to stay to 2.3.6 you can just factory reset your phone
Try this
Shut your Android Galaxy S down (Power off) or remove Battery.
Now press Volume up, Home and Power together.
If the Samsung Symbol is coming up leave the Home Button.
Then there is a boot Menu
Volume Up and Down to Navigate , Home to select the chosen option. ( factory reset )
---------------
if you want to upgrade to ICS or JB rom
root your firmware , choose the right cf-root from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
download ICS rom ( i suggest this one )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687727
install it via recovery
if you want to upgrade to JB
go to development section , chose any custom rom you want
and install via recovery
push thanks :good: if i helped you

Thank you mistrp74 and The Tox for the help.
I am still a bit confused, I cant seem to locate the right cf-root [Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU)] from the thread you mentioned.
One more thing, how is your experience of running the Custom Roms, is it much better than the Samsung Firmware? Does all the function work fine?
I will need a bit of spoon feeding in the beginning for the update... as I have never tried it before and I am scared of bricking my phone.
So, please don't give up on me

The right CF-Root is in the seond to last post on the first page I believe- if you can fnd the one for XXJW4, the one you need is right above it
Custom ICS/JB roms are definitely smoother in many ways, although bear in mind because stock Jelly Bean don't include them, both FM Radio and 3G video calling won't work by default (two features of stock roms, I guess AllShare is another if you use it like me). Otherwise every other function is stable and rock solid. Except for the CM10.2 builds, which are still in an initial stage, the JB roms here should have everything working fine.

Thanks a lot guys!
I finally managed to do it.
I installed the CF-Root without any problem but RemICS-UX v1.3.1 (Team Remics) didn't load. It was stuck at the boot screen.
I thought I bricked my phone... but then I installed Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU) using Odin and then installed plain vanilla ICS 4.0.3
Coming from Ginerbread 2.3.6 I find a lot of new things and the phone is also snappy and responsive... my old Galaxy S is acting almost like a new phone! So I am really happy.
Now that I am familiar with the process I am confident to tryout other ROMs...
I would like something simple, lightweight and fully-functional/bug-free.
So please let me know if there is any other better ROM I should try.
Thanks again guys!

Just one more question, what's your backup strategy that you guys use?
Or else it a lot of work to update each and every app... one by one... also what about the SMS, call log etc?

Because I'm a person who 1.) doesn't use too many apps and 2.) tries to be as economical as possible, I don't have a large amount to backup. My contacts and calendar are always through Google, and for SMS I use SMS Backup and Restore on Play Store. Call log I don't keep, because I'm not a person who really cares for call logs. I only have one other app, Colornote, and that's cloud-synced as well.
Everything else I need is in internal storage :3

More or less similar situation as TS
Hey guys,
Im in a more or less similar situation as the topic starter. My Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 has gotten slow and unresponsive with time.
I would like to update to a custom ROM, and got a little curious about the Slim Bean. But I feel a little unsure about how to proceed.
I'm currently running a custom Gingerbread 2.3.3 ROM, my device is rooted. I flashed this ROM from the Froyo that came with the phone about 2 years ago. It's been so long since I flashed this, I need some directions, as Im afraid I will brick my device.
When I go to recovery mode I see it runs ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.3 - Voodoo lagfix.
Can I just put a Slim Bean 4.2 android version on my internal sd card and run "install zip from sdcard" in ClockwordMod? I would prefer to flash the latest stable version of Slim Bean, which would that be 4.2.2.build7-OFFICIAL?'
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Bootism
Best way to update from gb or even older to jb is imo the way over cyanogenmod.
Follow this tutorial for 10.1: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
And then you can upgrade via cwm to the very good slim bean.

Thanks for the answer!
I recall reading about lots of issues with the lagfix and flashing ROMs. My file storage system is in ext4 instead of standard rfs, I think I should somehow undo this if I recall correct. Is this true?
Do you have an option to unlagfix in recovery?
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, I can choose "voodoo lagfix" in recovery.
It has the following options:
- disable lagfix
- enable lagfix (default)
- /system lagfix on (default)
- /system lagfix off
- debug off (default)
- debug on
Enter disable lagfix and reboot
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Ok, so I got Cyanogenmod 10.1.0 running! so far so good
Good job. Now you can flash a zip in cwm.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, it's a whole new world opening up. Old phone runs relatively smooth, at least way better than before thanks for helping. I will stay on this Cyanogenmod for a bit and explore. Can I just flash in any of the ROMs as .zip in CWM later? I will look for a lightweight ROM for my old phone, any suggestions?

Maybe the rom + kernel combination is wrong or the rom is just being buggy.
I just personally liked nAa's work because he release a stable version of every product.
If you want to change into the recommended rom that I just told you;
1. Flash the latest kernel (06)
2. Follow instruction on the kernel post. (/system wipe at recovery before flashing a rom & etc)
3. Flash the rom. Followed by the GAPPS
4. As it said, this is my recommendation steps. I do not guarantee your satisfactory

Newbie needs help
Hi,
My GTn7000 is unrooted with original Samsung ROM. My phone has become so old that, the USB port is not working. This is the first time am trying to put a different ROM in this phone. Since my USB is out, i can only rely on SD card. Is it possible to accomplish new Kernal installation and New mod installation, all with just SD card support? I want to go for OMNI rom for sure, since it appears to be the best stable rom.
If the answer is yes, i will start taking back up and stuff. Please help me do this. Phone is extremely slow and lots of unnecessary apps to get rid off.
Thanks
Dewan
Yes it is possible using ext SD. Read Philz kernel. Then go for raw kernel. Then you are ready for Omni & Gapps. There is a small risk though. If the installation fails or something goes wrong somewhere and you wont have access to recovery then pretty much screwed. So keep that in mind.

You must really be careful - no USB means no ODIN to flash you out of softbricks.
Install [2014.05.01][ROOT] Mobile ODIN v4.20. It may help to get you out of trouble.
I do use Omni on my N7000 supported device, It is great.
To make it easier to transfer files to your phone use [APP] Samba Server for Android. It will allow to map your phone as a network drive under Windows and use wifi for transfers.
And yes, start by flasing raw kernel. It will give you TWRP to flash Omni.
Screen does not go to sleep
ok my issue was solved i think just by flashing a new gapp.

Hello to everyone,
I want to update to Omni from CM10.1.3,
please, help me with few issues.
Should I use Gapps exactly for N7000 (the link doesn't work) or I can use official for all roms?
Is it stable enough for daily use or should I find more stable rom yet?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,late comer here.
Can i install this rom using this latest kernel? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191&page=405
And another thing - what is raw kernel?
TIA
No you can't. Philz is for stock (touchwiz based) roms. You need RAW kernel for this OmniRom.
Hi,
I have a problem with the nightly. Everything worked perfectly but then my power button stopped working. This is not a hardware problem because I can start the phone with the power button when its off. The problem occurs only with booted omnirom.
Can you help me? I tried several restarts and an update to the newest nightly.
Thanks in advance.

Has the Video Playback issue been fixed?
Hello XDA, I'm new here, so sorry if anything is inaccurate.
I was just wondering whether the Video Playback Issue has been fixed.
I was recommended to move to OmniRom after frequent crashes with CM (my phone couldn't last 20 hours without crashing or requiring a reboot.)
Thank you in advance.

Empty Omnirom nighly folder
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 n8013 and have been using the Omnirom 4.4.4 nightlies for a while now. For the last few weeks the Omnirom nightly folder is empty. Is it just me, or did things move? Is this how we're told a version is done and it's time to move on? I see there is a maintainer build for Omni 5.1.x and I'm getting the hint it's time for me to move on to it I'm guessing but I don't know.
