hi guys i was wondering the "lg optimus black " has a "ti omap 3630" and the lg optimus l7 has "Qualcomm MSM7227A"
people say that "ti omap 3630" is better than "Qualcomm MSM7227A" but the wiered thing when playing games like asphalt 7
the "Qualcomm MSM7227A" wins and doesnt lag like "ti omap 3630" in the optimus black why is that
Probably because of bad support from TexasInstruments, bad code from LG itself and so on. I never understood it myself, but TI support really is pretty much the worse, I have even seen. Without the proper and up to date drivers for a device, how should you be able to use its' full potential? At least, these are my thoughts about that topic...

agree , because we have a cortex a8 + a powervrsgx530 which should well ,, its same as the iphone 4 but with a bit less powerfull gpu
msm7227a have cortex-a5
cant record and play hd video

its less powerful than our cortex but it has better coding with the ics

well , can u be sure that the ics for our optimus black will be better than gingerbread ??
normally ics with removed unnecessary apps would be faster than our existing gb
So will we be able to run Asphalt 7 that smooth?!

since the processor is better, yes
but i run asphalt 7 smooth on zeusv6.39
(now am on v7 but on oc its smooth)
i heard ics has better hardware acceleration

i hope the official ice cream sandwich would be better imconfident that lg will because lg is not that type of "several upgrades" company if u know what i mean ,, its just a simple equation. if its done the this would be perfect
better drivers + better system = awesome performance
lg has other phones to sell that's a reason why they might not update and also, they have opted for two updates as compared to other companies who provide only one
Related
i only bought the lg 2x for 3 weeks, and this is sad to watch.
However, i don't see the point of the gpu being such powerful, since android does not have any thing to push the gpu at all besides benchmark. This is a good way to make myself feel better.
I would like to know is there difference between Tegra 2 cpu vs Exynos cpu at all?? besides Exynos gpu being so much more powerful than Tegra 2?
Thanks

oh thats just terrible
Now my O2x are completely useless - it will just stop functioning im sure
No wait - thats not right - whats happening, it still works ? My games still play, I can still read the news, I can still do all the things I did yesterday.
It's just a benchmark - does it really matter that much ?
Those are just numbers in my opinion.
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
I might have wrong, but that benchmark is made for mobile gpus and tegra 2 is not like normal mobile gpus it's more like a desktop gpu. A eight core gpu can't be beaten by a quad core or?
Tegra is our one, probably futile, hope of future proofing our phones.
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
Don't expect Tegra to lead benchmarks for a while until mobile graphics are more geared towards immediate mode rendering (Stuff more like PC graphics.). Everyone else uses Tile-based rendering. I believe NVidia did this to avoid changing the rendering (which changes the drivers even more and etc) once they reach "console-level" graphics. The Tegra 2 will excel in a few things. Don't expect it to be the best performer for now. Expect it to be a capable one.
Don't forget. SGS II is capped to 60fps and we won't know what it's truly capable of
I've seen several gaming videos and the tegra walks all over the Orion. I do agree that push for tegras are the last hope for a unified gaming platform and I think it will work. Nvidia has this backed and will see it through.
i am really sick of the fact every android phone has its own different games on each platform. same game cant be run on different android phones. this is stupid.
its one of the reasons i like Nvidia. they are trying to do something good here for once. you see all those samsung galaxy S2 hardware. but where all the games ? those same games i can play on nexus S. with good frames too. however with nvidia and tegra 2, the users are getting exclusive games that can take advantage of the hardware. thats nice for a change.
let the galaxy S2 owners have fun with there powerful phone on paper. at the end of the day. the Tegra 2 owners are the people who are getting the best looking games.
i am not saying i hate S2. because i will buy it as soon as i can. i love super amoled and the techs for the phone. but if i want a pure gaming phone. tegra 2 wins hands down. not because its the most powerful. but because there are exclusive games that take advantage of that GPU.

No their not, they're taking games already under development which Android users were going to see anyway regardless of nvidia's involvement and paying the developers off to make them exclusive titles, this is a bad thing as most Android users will lose out because of it.

this video shows at how the flash player performance is on web browsing watching a video and at this point watching an anime on both phones
so you can see that samsung galaxy with exynos and with 1.2ghz against lg2x nvidia tegra2 with 1ghz and lg optimus 2x seems for me faster for playing videos at this ..!i wanna only know if lg use stock 2.2.2 at this video against samsung galaxy s2 2.3.3 stock
lets compare those two videos and see that there are no differences between samsung s 2 and lg2x
and again dont forget...lg 2x has stock 2.2.2 rom
samsung galaxy s 2 has gingerbread 2.3.3 wich supposed to be faster..
think that when lg 2x will get official ginger 2.3.4 at this summer

True, and Nvidia is causing fragmentation by using their own compression formats. Afaik Mali supports the one and only standard format, but that don't help much when Nvidia is paying off devs to use their proprietary stuff. Yeah not very techical i know, but check out the SGS2 thread for more info.

Can you give me a clear ( no fanboy ) opinion.

Hmmm not sure about Gingerbread yet. But since LG's working very hard on it (judging from the delays) I would believe they would have came out with something good. As for now, we can still actually beat the SGSII's processor optimisations, exynos may look better on paper but on software, its the Tegra 2 that wins due to all the tegra games out there. But seriously, its not good to compare now, the O2X haven't even got the Gb update yet, I tried CM7 on my O2X and found it to be surprisingly smooth and multi touch responsive, Gb could be one of the reasons why the SGSII is so smooth. Let's not give up hopes on LG give them a chance

yeah.,hope Lg will provide GB in near future..
i love my o2x
According to androidworld.nl the optmimus one gb update should arive in a couple of weeks and we have to wait another 2 or 3 months
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
we just have to wait ..
This is stupid... Why would their best phone users wait to GB, while the low-end phone gets it?
Anyway, 1080p doesn't lagg on my phone at all.
But I don't think it'll ever beat SGSII, unless the GB software is so amazing, and optimized.
Since the sgs2 costs about 100 euro's more than the O2x, i don't expect it to be faster. But they're both bloody fast, so does it really matter?
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA Premium App
Based on what they have done with 2.2 I wouldn't count my chickens!. What makes you think LG will do better with 2.3?.
LG are CRAP with software, no matter what version they bring out.
I have owned both and went back to the o2x. Here are my reasons.
Build quality, the o2x is a far superior device. It feels great in the hand and materials used give a much nicer feel. The gsii is plasticy.
Size, the gsii was too big for me for one handed use. The o2x is slimmer which makes one handed use perfect.
Screen, obviously the gsii has a great screen especially in direct sunlight but the o2x has a better than average so this is no problem.
Speaker, important for me. With volume+ app o2x is just as loud as the gsii's good speaker. Without it i found the o2x too quiet so this was a great find for me.
Performance, both have great processors and more than anyone needs today. Performance around the phone, apps and browsing web for everyday use I could not notice the difference.
Camera, both great. Video capture is better on the Samsung.
Ui, I use custom rom's and don't like either out of the box. If I had to choose one I would go with the LG. Its closer to stock android.
Battery life is much the same as both will need a charge every day.
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA Premium App
as long as they don't screw up like with the leaked G2x gingerbread, all the power will be with the custom ROMs ... so please LG, release proper HALs and drivers for 2.3 userspace.
but i love O2X, i think her dessign is beautyfull!!!
And the SGSII it's cool, but plasticy....
Tegra 2 is better on Games ( GPU ) and Exyros is better on powerhorse ( CPU )
I have readed, the Optimus 2X at the same clock, clock per clock, O2X is faster.
Thanks for all those answers
I've got a friend with the sgsii and it's nice, gb really makes the difference. However, tegra 2 is the way to go for gaming and he's had issues with some games not running at all.

I also use my phone a lot for gaming and the O2X just blows away the SG2S in this department.
My main use is for web browsing and with miren on both My optimus renders faster and less stuttery when flash is on the page than my mates SG2S.
I am very happy with my 2X even thought all items except games rendering beats SGSII. My only hope is that more developers use Tegra SDK to develop games and maybe even application. Make full use of the 8 cores in the GPU you know what I mean... Haha...
O2x will beat in graphics processing. However, normal processing / graphical display = SGII.
O2x the biggest and most common flaw of all is the random reboots / SOD. Without this flaw, this phone would have been perfect. I personally got this problem and I got a replacement.
In terms of performance on GB, who knows? in terms of hardware, SGII > O2x EXCEPT for the Nvidia Tegra 2. So if you're talking about optimizing O2x, then SGII also could be optimized, hence, beating O2x.

when is this a battle??
LO2x cant beat SGSii... twice as large ram, imho better CPU... but on the other hand...why did you buy LO2x over SGSii? I did, coz it costed me 60% of sgsii price... and i dont regret it
I am wondering if the LG OB hardware specs will be enough to have a fluid experience running ICS. Given that this device has only 512MB of RAM and a single core 1GHz CPU, do you guys think we could have an overall good experience running ICS (e.g. no lagging)? CPU IMO seems to be the least of the concerns, but what about the RAM capacity? I've read somewhere sometime ago that Google stated that any GB capable device, would run ICS with no issues, but I've also read in a forum that 512MB is the minimum required to run it so we might be on the edge. What do you guys think?
Important: This is not a thread to discuss whether or not LG will be pushing out the ICS update or when so let's try to be focused on the topic.
I am certain the Optimus Black has adequate hardware capabilities to handle ICS.
Apart from CPU and Ram, GPU is the next criteria for ICS which demand 2D acceleration to be handle by the GPU.
It is just up to LG / Cyanogenmod community to bring it to life.
it can handle...otherwise it wouldnt get the official update!
Keep one thing in mind that :
"Any device that can run Gingerbread can also run ICS" (according to google).
Its not possible when we have useless TouchWiz like Samsung bcoz it takes alot of RAM
I actually sold my Galaxy Tab when I heard that Samsung will not be releasing ICS for Galaxy S or Tab while it was only 9 months old !
So its useless to have a device that has no future support from manufacturer.
Millions of units of Galaxy Tab & Galaxy S were sold worldwide & Samsung embarrassed millions of user by just making excuses
Plus if mid-range Sony Ericsson phones can run ICS (via official update) then why now Optimus Black?
Come on guys it has 1GHz CPU.

Well technically the Black doesn't have 1 Ghz processor, it's just factory overclocked to reach that.
As for ICS, I wouldn't expect the official update to be out until 2013
I think the OB can handle ICS very well.
If the GT540 (my old phone) is able to run ICS (still BETA but it works) then
i see no difficulty in running ICS on the OB.

OB is certainly able to handle ICS since Nexus S is able to use 4.0 with the same specification to OB. (1GHz CPU, 512MB Ram, but more powerful GPU SGX540)
yes, Galaxy S has some full working ICS ports, also on Galaxy SL i9003, which has the same hardware as our OB, there are some devs working on ICS
Theoretically yes. But will there be a stable and usable ics rom is another question. I am pretty sure before that I would be with another newer phone already. Now let's enjoy gingerbread first.
Sent from my LG-P970 using XDA App
ICS needs 1ghz cpu & 512 mb gpu. the black has both. i don't know what will happen with the stock ics as it will have the lg bloatware & the optimus ui, but with AOSP projects and trees like cyanogenmod,i think it can not only run,but run very well on our black.
and btw, the black uses tiomap 3630 & cortex a8 combo, i think it's stock 1ghz and NOT factory overclocked. the 3610 chipset would have been overclocked 2 get 1ghz, not 3630.
My Nexus S runs ICS AOSP+ 4.0.3 + M4trix Kernel flawlessly & very smooth. I also can OB & NS have similar hardware configuration, so it must be supported! CM9 already on its way afaik
I think OB can handle it as LG stated it in their schedule of ICS upgrade for their optimus phones.

If you peek at knzo's notes while developing his Nova, it is factory overclocked which it explains why the Black is never stable when overclocked to 1.2Ghz and above. Here's another android phone using the very same processor clocked at the stock speed: Defy.
Just to be clear I'm not sourgraping but CM9 may just be our only hope for ICS (at least ICS before the end of 2012).
Since there is an ICS Beta avaiable for the GT540 (600Mhz) i think the OB will do just fine
now who went on to tell you ics requires 1ghz and 512mb... google for android developer phones and you will be surprised at the minimum spec needed for ics... these are the phones on which fw are developed and it is required that fw runs on them smoothly... the minimum reqs are so low that even 600ghz 256mb can handle it...
ps:no gpu required too
Ricardo said that every device with 512 MB ram and more will be supported by CyanogenMod
Sent from my LG-P970 using xda premium
in regard to my previous post (2 posts up) current dev phone is htc magic with only 192mb ram (unlike the 288mb that aired the market) and 528mhz arm cpu so that means ics was developed and should run on it. The galaxy nexus is the advanced dev phone and that is a totally different matter. This means that black will be more than adequate to run ICS compared to the htc magic's specs... It would be lame to asume that google is developing towards the high end users as even as we speak 1ghz is starting to become the standard on market and still it isnt if you look at the low end devices that are released out there still... There will be still some time till 1ghz/512 ram are considered the standard (not by users but by companies that is) so it is safe to assume that you will be ok for quite some time with black (and me with o3d). Hell my kid's huawei joy (aka vodafone joy845) has beta versions of ICS running and it is th lamest phone I ever layed my hands on.

Check out the real world performances. Mali 400 outclasses Adreno 220 easily.
The weakpoint of Mali is geometry performance, but it does not matter much with mobiles until now as mobile games are not geometry heavy.
On the other hand, the OpenGL ES 2.x performance and real world performance of Mali is excellent.
With the clock speed of exynos in Note which actually gives much better real world performance with Mali 400 than even SGS2, it runs circles around Adreno 220 powered devices like sensation and even SGX540 powered devices.

Yeah well Scott Adams is wayyyyyyy past his heyday (heck, even being relevant).... haven't read him since 2007 or so, when he started dabbling in intelligent design woo and sexist claptrap...
for being a heavy mobile gamer
i can assure you that the mali 400 on the note does very well with the latest games (asphalt7, dead trigger to name a few) despite having to compute for a much higher resolution display than other phones...
and with a little overclocking (tegrak app or gl notecore kernel) gpu performance can get sky high.

The NOTE's and SGS3's GPU are the same.
However, the S3 is built on a smaller 32nm die-size, so it means it uses less space and less power for same performance. Samsung uses this advantage to clock the frequency much higher than the NOTE (which is built on a 45nm die).
Also, the S3 implements a new, updated driver for the gpu and squeezes more performance out. This was a same move Samsung made with the SGX540, which is also a very fast gpu. The original SGS was clocked real-low and had outdated drivers... after stealing the driver sources from the LG with OMAP 4440 SoC, the SGS (with 4.0.3) was performing in the same league as the 2011/2012 devices.

Better drivers + a little O'C makes the overwhelming difference.
I mean the NOTE comes with *only* 2 cores and *slow* gpu... after I customized it, its running toe-to-toe with the HTC One X (Tegra3).
An easier way to understand is to look at the new RIM PlayBook.
It's got the same processor as the Gnex (Galaxy Nexus) however its much much faster, especially in browsing. It decimates it. It even decimates the ASUS Transformer Prime Infinity (O'C Tegra3 + ICS).... or the Nexus7 (U'C Tegra3 + JBean).
You are only as fast as your slowest component. In the case of Android, its the high-level (slow) implemented software.
= Getting a faster soc with more cores and more ram doesn't really increase performance that much.
Some serious thread necromancy going on here!

Dave

Yeah, I do frequent engadget... also on heaps of other sites.

Would you be kind enough to educate me about your setup?

Exactly. Even though the Playbook has its many flaws (owned two both with screen/USB issues) it was a powerhouse. Multimedia was outstanding and web surfing was by far the fastest.
But the OS, QNX, is to thank for that. If the Playbook was running android it would be nothing out of the ordinary. As much as I love Android it really is not as efficiant as QNX

Recently I had a doubt about if it's possible to unlock the 2 locked remaining cores in the Galaxy Note N7000? Because I realize that the Note only uses 2 of the 4 GPU cores... It's there a possibility to do this? How?
i think mali 400 is a good GPU because Note1 and Note2 using it. and really nice GPU for gaming
hello
Both the L9 and 4X HD have more or less the same price here. Which is better?
I have read this:
L9 - better batterylife
L9 - better JB update
4X - better 720p HD screen
4X - better Quad Core Tegra 3
what do you guys think?

i think is not comparable. both devices have more differences than similar...
is dual core/quad core, IPS LCD/True HD IPS LCD, simple display/gorilla glass, 5 Mb/8 Mb camera, and more...
i think i can not compare that devices, is totally different...
I thought 4X HD already has Jb out now and some people do not like it for some reason?
It has JB now. And I like the phone and all ways have..

4X is way better in the 3 most critical aspects: 1) Screen 2) Processor 3) Available user internal memory
The only advantages of L9 is the battery and the fact that is getting faster the updates.
It's crazy if someone buys the L9 instead of 4X.

+1 to this. Its not rocket science. 4X is in a different class than the l9.

I don't even know why we have quad cores.
Please tell me what you do where it really comes in handy. All it does it waste battery... A lot of games lags, because of no optimization

..well, the games that are optimized (or run on arm7 vfp optimised code (like iPhone ports)), they run surprisingly well. Riptide, Puddle, Horn, that sort of thing. The relatively simpler games that run well, run really well... Sword and Sworcery, Canabalt (doesn't have the slowdown on the glass-break, etc). Tried some other games that run physics on the normal instruction set - they're very fast.
What lags to some degree it seems to me are the games that are supposed to run on a "dedicated" graphics card module, and have been tweaked for that, possibly with some hairy direct addressing for some effects, etc. EA games and their studios, typical offenders. But those games actually don't run flawlessly on other chipsets either. They tend to have reasonably good max fps, but also get slowdowns. NFS Carbon, at least, was like that.
Sure is a good point about quad-core phones in general, though.. If there wasn't power-gating on the tegra chipsets, it'd mean draining the battery in no time, regardless of what you would do. So just "quad-core", just to have quad-core, this isn't much point. That's also why many manufacturers go away from the quad Arm designs, and instead make extra "cores" on the gpu/microcore part (which is just marketing spin because more cores apparently is better.. makes very little sense to talk about separate cores like that, but never mind).
But when you have basically a gpu on each core, and all the cores are able to dynamically clock up and down, and idle extremely fast - then you have an option to run relatively heavy functions without raising the clock-speed to the ceiling, etc. And that is valuable for any mobile chipset.
And it's the only method for really getting any sort of reasonably high performance and high response(or lack of bandwidth issues) out of a passively cooled system. Which.. we've already seen too, with some of the very good tegra3 titles that are out already...
