This seems like a good forum for new devs to check out, hope it is useful and thanks for wanting to contribute.

this guy said that in order for him to get spb shell 3D to work on his milestone he had to use this bulletproof script. he said that would keep it from closing out like it does on our hero's. so they have the same problem as us... as far as trying to get spb to work. here is the bulletproof script thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276 . now i was wondering if anybody can take a look at it and see if they can get it to work on our hero's? everytime i look at this thread i get so confused lol. thanks!
I used that link for my HeroC once upon a time. Just read everything carefully, the OP has everything laid out so that you can understand it. And using google or XDA search to find out what you do not know is always the best option before posting a thread about a problem. I know this for myself, especially with that mod, because I used it before. Plus searching and solving a problem personally always provides to be a great learning experience.
XDA + GOOGLE = PERSONALLY "BULLET PROOF" LAUNCHER
Its really confusing!

If you can't find something you're confused about on Google AND/OR XDA Search then please post in the thread and I'll try my best to explain things for you. But I'm sure that if I can do it using XDA Search & Google, so can you. Self help is in your best interest, but my help is in your best interest as well. I'll be watching this thread and help in any way I can.

is there anyway to tell if my newly upgraded v6 supercharger script is the reason for my recent FC's and reboots when using the Google navigation.apk ? Everything was running smoothly for a few days, and i have not installed or removed any apps since then. What should i do?
Running OS: 2.3.4
Mod Version: aospCMod-HEROC
Build: GRJ22
I don't know what that script does but a nandroid restore always works or reflash your rom over itself and clear caches. You'd really be better off posting in a more appropriate thread, like the one the dev of the script made. It may be easier to disable than i know.

did just that and worked like a charm. V6 supercharger has made my phone faster than ever before and no more FC's (for the moment)
Hi, I'm a 14 yo guy from Hungary. I think I'm an experienced user but n00b in development. And my dream is to become a developer. So I have these questions:
1: How can I port CM ROMs for x8?
2: How can I port from AOSP for x8?
3: What kind of PC do I need for it? (Like processor, RAM, etc...)
4: Do I need any programs on PC?
(I'm on windows xp professional)
Thanks anyway:

Android = linux so I would learn how to use linux

granted im no android dev. However I have created programs in JAVA and basic ( + alice but I dont really count that as coding )

Sorry sorry mate
well your going to need ADB . and most computers out there can handle developing. so anything id say that is greater then XP could dev. but speed if you want it to bring down loading time is good but that comes at a price. if you wanted to be on the safe side get something with i3-i7 and DDR3 ram . did i mention learn how to code? that is most important part is learn the way Linux works. because android is basically Linux in mobile form.
look at the first link first and if it doesn't have what you need you can wing it using the 2nd which is your basic files your going to need..
(i hope this helps more then before )

Where should I start if I wanted to start developing ROMs?
Might help.

Couple days ago I flashed cm7 on my phone, at first everything worked fine and it was awesome. I should mention that I'm new to the modding scene. Anyways I'm having problems with my mobile network. I can't make any calls because apparently my phone cannot find my mobile network.
I've done a little research and I think I might have to flash my radio which should be no problem. I've read forums and have tried to find the appropriate "modem.bin" for my phone but some of the threads date back to a year or longer. Does anybody have a link to the best modem for my phone/rom?
This is the rom I flashed cm-7.2.0-galaxysmtd.zip from the cyanogenmod download site (won't let me post links -.-)
My other options I suppose would be to flash another rom and hope it works.
EDIT
I found this post ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9579987&postcount=11945 ) and it turns out that JK3/JK4 modems work for Bell in Canada. Just wondering, do the modems have to be compatible with roms?
ya the modems have to be compatible.. actually samsung code based roms and google code based roms have different installation files for modems
for me the KB3 and KF1 modems from this link CM7 modems ported from Nexus S work best..
When i first moded my i9000 it had its modem changed akd i got horrible reception. Like i wouldnt get service at the back of the grocery store, where my mom would get full bars on her stock phone. So i flashed to kg3. It is the stock i9000 gb modem. If you can't find it, pm me, I have a flashable zip on my computer!

Thanks for the replies!
I guess I'll try and flash KB3 or KF1 first and see if I get any good results, I'll update my post when I do. I suppose I should also read up on android devices to try and get a sense of how things work. Does anybody know any good educational sites for android? Thanks again for the help! it's appreciated.

Thanks for the tip, I know xda is an awesome site for information but I feel like the info is all over the place and sometimes a little challenging to find. I was looking for a more organized source of info.
I flashed the KF1 radio but I still don't connection to my carrier (msg: mobile network not available). I'll keep searching the forums to check if anyone has had the same issues. Any input would be appreciated, not quite sure what it could be at this point.

Wish I could thank you more than once! This fixed my issue Thank you so much for your input and everybody else! Is there a way to change the title to fixed?
Thanks again!
You can thank this post . But on xda old theme go to edit > advanced.
On the new one just go edit and then change title

ok thnx guys ^_^ im waiting .....thnx for ur hard working
This is my first new phone in a while, I usually purchase once they get cyanogenmod support, so I haven't had to work with using root to freeze or remove the bloatware and other annoying features of a stock rom. Could someone give me a basic step by step on what to do? I'm sure many people will be asking this so it may be a useful thread to create in General if you have some experience with this!
I just made a thread about this. The search tool (and your eyes) is your friend.
