[Q] Root-Problems after Firmware Update to 2.3.6 - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, perhaps somebody can heIp me.
Updated my Galaxy Tab 7 today from Firmware 2.3.6 (other details I don't know) to
Firmware 2.3.6
Kernel-Version 2.6.35.7
Buildnummer GINGERBREAD.BOJU3
over Samsung Kies.
The Tablet was rooted, but after i confirmed the Firmware Update the Root wasn't there anymore.
Tried to re-root the Tablet with SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse & DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su_1_
but both didn't work.
Anyone got any Idea how to re-root or fix this. Got no Backup so resetting is the last option.
DooMLoRDs Tool said that he can't wright the SU File true no Write-Rights.
Superuser 3.3 is still installed and can't be uninstalled true no root rights.
SuperOneClick will not finish the Root and stops mostly on Part 7 of the procedure.
Tried to rooted with debugging and tablet on.
Thank You
maRul

Start by telling US which model is your galaxy tab 7.
There are many variants.

Try chainfire root 3.3

I used CF-Root V3.3 from chainfire. It works for me.
You must flash this via Odin in Phone slot.

Good luck

No, kernel is just the kernel it doesnt affect your installed apps.
Anyway, I wouldnt bother with stock GB, I would recommend Overcom rom if you want GB and not ICS/JB.

thanks 4 helping. Installed a new Kernel with Odin3 8.5.
System is now rooted.
Perhaps I will update to ICS or JB later.
greetings

Theres no space to install superuser on official 2.3.6 GB.. thats not cfroot kernel fault.. just remove file/app on system..

boot loop

Rooting Gingerbread: Any other method aside from CF-root?

Do you know of any rooting method aside from cf-root? superoneclick did not work for me. Alternatively how to root using cf-root without the cwm and just simple root/superuser?
have you tried GingerBreak?
I haven't used it but I guess it might work

The latest superoneclickroot has gingerbreak integrated. Did not work....I don't know about the command line method. I might try later.

I think the reason why the first GB-the Italian version was pulled out of samsung servers was because it was easy to hack/root. Now the official Asian GB has problems with rooting because they learned from the Italian version and put something on the later release to make it difficult to root.

Well, as I did it on a SGS2 and not on a Galaxy tab, I don't know if the same applies to the former. However, I experienced difficulties with SuperOneClick which I successfully worked around doing the following:
First of all, if you have .NET Framework 4.0 installed on your PC, try downgrading it to .NET 3.0. Reboot. Another thing, try SuperOneClick v. 1.5.5 (which uses rage-against-the-cage) instead of the newer ones (which use either gingerbreak or psneuter). Then, start SuperOneClick before connecting the phone (which must be on usb debugging mode, of course!). When SuperOneClick says it is "waiting for device" then connect the phone and let it do its job.
For me, it didn't work at the first try, as it got stuck at some point. However, after a huge measure of persistence, which included several trials using the mentioned procedure, I've succeeded. As since then I've upgraded my ROM twice, the process had to be done twice again, and the persistence was necessary to succeed in both. Don't give up too early: persistence is the key. At least it was in my case.
Good luck !
PS.: I also could only succeed using Chanfire's XWKDD insecure kernel, even with newer firmwares (KE1 and KE7). I don't know why, but KE1 and KE7 insecure kernels didn't work for me using SuperOneClick.
where can I get the old version like Superoneclick 1.5.5? I tried googling but could not find link....or please provide copy of your file?
thanks!
Unfortunately, as I'm new here in XDA forums, I'm not able to provide external links yet (website policy). However I was able to sent you the link via private message.
Good luck !
Unfortunately did not work for me.I think samsung have closed the exploit on this firmware - which was open on the Italian version.
i am trying to another way by the help of our good friends here

So you got the i9000 and not the i9000b?
Flash cf-root kernel via. Odin.

i have the i9000
Okay, then as i already said.
Get cf-root kernel, flash it via odin and baaam. There you got your root xP
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
but i dont know how to root it ive tried to search at google for a way to root BUJVI but i found nothing
Okay. Look for the cf-root kernel thread. Chainfire prepared a pre-rooted kernel for (almost? ) every firmware.
Look for the right one.
You know how to flash a kernel with odin?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
i dont know the way plz tell me
plz tell me all the steps cause im new at android
Download Odin. You should find it somewhere here on xda or google.
Download the cf-root kernel.
I think its a ".tar"-file.
Open odin.
If you have installed KIES, close both KIES-processes in the taskmanager.
Reboot phone into downloadmode. (Vol down + home + power)
Connect your phone via usb to your pc. A little box in odin should appear now and should say something like "Added".
Now press on the "pda"-button and browse to the cf-root kernel. Click start and if everything is done correctly, xour phone should reboot automatically. Now you should see the app "Superuser".
Hope this helps.
Anyway, im not responsible for any errors or damages to your phone
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
plz give me a link to download the compatible version for my galaxy s thank you very much i know that i bothered you
Okay.
Firt of all, here is the direct link to the CF-Root-Thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
Theres a step-by-step guide by chainfire too.
Download this kernel from his site:
http://download.chainfire.eu/123/CF-Root/SGS/CF-Root-XW_DBT_JVI-v3.7-CWM3RFS.zip
And flash it as mentioned in his thread with odin
Hope this will help you out
im i obliged to use that chanefire ??
No. You could use any other kernel from chainfire. Or you can use Semaphore, Galaxian, Talon, Speedmod or any other Gingerbread-Kernel.
You can either try the 1-Click-Rooting Tool. You should find it on google and somewhere here on xda.
i cant find in one click root my device :crying: or i didnt dee it can you plz go and search for me thank you very much
One more question.
Do you want to root, to do a backup of your apps?
Or do you want to get a Nandroid-backup?
Nandroid-Backup is something like an image of your pc.
EDIT:
Anyway.
The easiest and safest way is to flash the cf-root kernel with Odin.
Follow the instructions in the cf-root kernel and you should be good to go.
Its pretty easy.

[Galaxy S GT-i9000] Rooting attempt failed, need help

Hi all,
I've tried searching the forums but unfortunately my search did not turn up anything that specifically addressed how to tackle my problem. I'm generally quite bad with computers/phones/etc., and unfortunately my first attempt at rooting my phone didn't work out. My husband isn't good with phones either. It got stuck in a boot loop and I had to flash a factory firmware to recover the use of my phone, which took me a few hours to understand and perform. (All the data however was wiped, but thankfully I had backed my data up beforehand).
I am still interested in rooting my device, but am now afraid that I will screw it up again. I was hoping someone could please help me out as I do not want to permanently damage or lose all my phone's data again. Here are the details of my phone, please let me know what I need in order to root it. I will provide any other information necessary.
Model: GT-I9000
Firmware version: 2.2.1
Baseband version: I9000ZSJPG
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
[email protected] #5
Build number: FROYO.ZSJPG
Thank you for any help provided. I would really appreciate a step by step guide if possible, because I'm so inept at dealing with these matters, and unfortunately my husband isn't much help either. Thanks all.
U need to update to the latest versoin available in your country...
If it is 2.3.6 then u can root it using odin3_v1.0
U can find a full proof guide for 2.3.6..just google it...
If u dont have 2.3.6 then also google it..download and flash it...and then root it...
Cheers

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I tried flashing to 2.3.6 using odin3v_1.7 but I got the same problem with a boot loop again! I have flashed back to the factory firmware again, and am back at square one. I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong. Thank you for your reply though.

If you are still on 2.2 .1 just connect it to KIES http://www.4shared.com/file/rcHB94q3/Kies_23212064_10_1.html and let it update it for you..IF it works without any problems.
or else you may have failed to Format your SD card and factory reset before flashing using odin and also do a wipe after flashing in recovery mode.
or you may have ticked repartition in Odin? that cause the boot loop

To Root: https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum...-i9000-rooting-gt-i9000-2-3-3-india-ddjv9.47/
To Install ICS [4.0.4]: https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum...wich-4-0-4-in-samsung-galaxy-s-g-t-i9000.125/
Thank you very much everyone! I really appreciate all the suggestions, will try them all out later tonight and let you guys know how it worked out.
You guys are awesome. =)
If you want to root GB, any version, use superoneclick. Works great, but you wont have a custom recovery that can flash update.zips. Or you could just flash a rooted kernel via odin so you get cwm and other features such as bln, cpu scaling etc. Also if you want to go to ics, flash an ics kernel, boot into recovery flash any ics rom and your good to go.
Good Luck!
Hi,
Personally I flash a Darkyrom GB ROM (you can find it on his website). Best part about it is you dont need to be rooted to flash his ROM. Try searching for 10.2 RE JVU on his website. All you need is a .tar file and flash it via odin. I think TotallydubbeHD has a video tutorial on youtube as well.
Trust me, its safe. I have flashed it countless of times
Thank you so much everyone! It finally worked! Everyone has been such a great help, thank you so much everyone. <3

[SOLVED] ADB/Manual rooting

is there a way that i could root galaxy tab gt-p1000 using only adb, i need the files , like SU,the unlock procedure of the bootloader, recovery for GTAB , and instructions if there is any.. thank you and good day XDA! i cant use superone click my pc identifies it as a malicious file...

Yes, you can. Google for the such files, or flash overcome kernel as priyana has mentioned. You can also root it by flashing cf root files via Odin. You will find it in a pos by me named stock to ics

[Q] Flashing & Upgradation of SGS I9000

Hi All,
A very good morning to all.
As the title suggests, I am requesting guidance in step by step manner. Since there is so much information that I am confused & hence creating this thread.
Below are the complete info of the phone:
Model Number: GT-I9000
Firmware Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: I9000DDJV7
Kernel Version: [email protected]#2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.DDJVB
My phone is a stock phone & has been never flashed before.
As per my research, its said that I should have a custom recovery in place & Clockworkmod recovery is the one of the best. I want to install the same using ROM Manager rather than using ODIN. I have got it from Google Store. But after clicking on install/upgrade "Clockworkmod recovery" then confirming my phone model. Then when I click Flash Clockworkmod Recovery I get this error - "An error occured while flashing your recovery".
I am not using ODIN as I can't delete update.zip file from my SD Card. Hence I am avoiding that approach so that I don't have any issues with accidental deletion of update.zip.
Requesting guidance.
Regards
Sudhir
Now, I have found an app called root checker. It is giving me the below info:
SU - Not Found.
Root Access - No Access.
Please guide me on what should I do next.
Regards
Sudhir
Hey there,
So the reason why ROM manager isn't working for you is precisely the thing you discovered using Root Checker. You're not rooted, and ROM Manager needs root access to work. (ROM Manager doesn't install Clockworkmod properly either, so you may want to refrain from using that).
So you need to root your device first.
The easiest and safest way of doing this is
1.) Flashing XXJW4 using Odin (if you're unable to use Odin for whatever reason this step isn't easily done).
Then
2.) Flashing Cf-Root made for XXJW4 (the thread is in these forums) through Odin.
This will root your device and install CWM onto it, so you can flash away.

Thanks Soryuu.. for the guidance.I wanted to know if CF-Root made for XXJW4 will work for DDJV7.

It may but I do not recommend it. I have done that a couple times but with xxjvk and I think xxjvo. If you gona try it do it at your own risk. Rather download the cf root for ddjv7
Hmmm, I don't think one was made for DDVJ7. Chainfire stopped making them after JW4 so a lot of newer firmwares are missing.
I wouldn't recommend trying, but you SHOULD be able to flash in a stock rom or stock kernel again should something go wrong.
But as I said, I wouldn't try it for the sake of safety.
Easier to flash XXJW4 instead because at least you know that the CF-Root made for it will obviously work
