This thing should have shipped with the aosp browser. - Nexus 7 General

Chrome for android is terrible compared to the stock jellybean browser. Its choppy, scrolling takes forever to load and it has less features. I don't care about flash. I never run stock but most people will. The aosp browser would have been a much better experience for them and offers smoothness that matches the rest of the OS. The difference is huge. Using the aosp browser in paranoid or any other aosp ROM is so smooth.
Some apps require the stock browser as well.

Cm9 Music App

Has anyone else tried the cm9 music app. A quick Google will get you the apk. I liked the features and widgets a lot but it seemed a bit sluggish and made my phone hot at times. Also seemed like more of a battery drainer than stock.
Anyone else noticing this and do u know if it will be fixed on market final?
PS: was running codename aosp + speed kernel 5 when I tried.
HERE'S THE APK FOR THOSSE LOOKING FOR IT:

Yeah its good a lot of options. But it consume 32mb+ in ram usage that makes our phone sluggish when using it. Compare to google music that use about 8mb.

aokp vs touchwizz

i want to now what rom is better the AOKP or Stock ICS and what are the positive sides and non positives ???
For me TouchWiz, cuz Stable, everything work, all S Pen stuff work, can run more Video Codecs, and just beautiful
AOSP etc are nice, but many many bugs. untill they get solved, stay away
personal preference.
Even though Samsung is bloated, their newest touchwiz roms for note will have mad multitask abilities, the hardware probably will be left wanting a bit, but its truly innovating! Cant wait.
Aokp, is as intended(if they get the stuff working with closed sources) by Google
Samsung is doing some awesome stuff with the touchwizz.
definitely touchwiz, samsung is doing well.
Best regards,
+1 for touchwizz

I'd say it goes back to personal preference as well.
But yeah in general stock is more stable and practically has more features. I personally prefer stock.
Aokp offers more customization than touchwiz. It is not as stable as tw. performance may be lower than that of tw.
I use anything that is non-tw.

Aokp because it looks nicer and it is faster

And which of the aosp/aokp/pa roms is the most full-featured at the moment? Specifically, I've heard none of them supports hdmi out - is that correct?

whats your favorite setup on the nexus 7? =)

im installing all the roms that have good comments.. i LOVE this tablet. i used to like miui back in the gingerbread days.. and now i like it again!
now im trying smoothrom..
just wondering though what is everybodies favorite setup for their tablet?
I like Prime, very smooth yet still has good battery life. It also has features ported from AOKP and CM10.1, but not the battery sucking features. Overall a great ROM. 7080 was scored with quadrant on this ROM.
Nexus 7:
Unlock/Root
PRIME D
M-Kernel
PimpMyROM
I am running stock 4.2.2 right now and it is great, but I miss paranoid android and tablet mode. I will probably be going back to paranoid android soon because I can't see the time when I am playing games unlike tablet mode where it is always showing in the nav bar.

I really like the cyanogenmod 10.1 based on 4.2.2 with the battery-friendly franco kernel. VERY fast and smooth and many good features and settings. For the tablet mode like in the paranoid rom I use the xposed framework to manually set the dpi-value for every app.

Slow AOSP Roms ?

I've tried them all from PA to AOKP is it just me or are they running hella slow ? As far as screen transitions go even with transitions off I just feel like it's a step slow anyone notice that ?
I haven't flashed any aosps yet, I hear none are daily drivers because their still in beta. But don't quote me on that I believe the Google edition of our phone will make them operate alot better and give us more aosp choices in the coming weeks.

KitKat

I have a question. I have been reading about kitkat apps. It seems that particularly the web browser is pretty crap. Can anyone verify these comments? I don't know that it will be an issue, but I was curious if anyone here has any personal experience. If it's bad, I'll stay with 4.2.2 . Thanks.

The launcher is just OK, it's really Google Now's version of a launcher with it built in. I found it be a little slow and very little customization. Fine for the masses who don't know any different (which are the majority of users, sadly). Nova destroys it all day long.
Far as KitKat goes, it all depends on the ROM and the device. Some ROMs are way behind and some are way ahead. I hate to say it but if CM11and SlimKat were all I had to choose from, I'd probably go back to 4.2. Yes CM is the foundation of all ROMs so I'm grateful it's around, but for KitKat they still have a long way to go, at least for S2. Same for SlimKat. Just too many issues. The unofficial ROMs are kicking major butt though. For the Exhibit, I'd stick with 4.2 for now although to be fair I haven't tried the newest KitKat ROMs available here lately. @jfbs is working hard to get you guys a stable 4.4 though!

I can easily install Nova again. It's the launcher I use now and I love it. Thanks for the advice. I am looking forward to @jfbs' rom. I was just eager to try kitkat because it was supposedly designed to work on phones like ours, where ram is at a premium. Initial reviews did say it ran much lighter, but I am not sure if it really makes a difference.

Ultimately there is one truism I have found, functionality and speed are mainly hardware dependent. You can have the best ROM ever made in history but if the device doesn't have the hardware to back it up, it's useless. I booted the Exhibit for the first time in almost two weeks the other day and it was so much painfully slower than what I have now it isn't even funny. It reminded me how thankful I need to be that I have something else to be honest. A good KitKat ROM may help this device, IDK.
Yeah, the browser on Slimkat is all slow and FC's, even when you try to use a different browser than stock. With the other 4.4 ROMs we have I think you can just use a different browser if the stock has FC issues.
I stay using 4.2, since I can OC higher than 1012MHz and can swap the sd's.
FC stands for force close? Thanks for the advice. I will stay with 4.2 for now. I will see what @jfbs comes up with.
