Smoothness is one of those subjective things. For example, you call the stock ICS bugged up, but I find it very smooth and useable with l0st.prophet's XS-ICS kernel and haven't found anything that I would consider buggy.
You just need to try all of the different ROMs until you find one you are satisfied with.
Help me understand

The kernel I used is based on the HTC Sense 3.6 ICS ROM source code, so it is more recent than the modified GB kernel that you mentioned.
The kernel is more important for ROM performance. The recovery you use has nothing to do with ROM performance.
How??

Yes i want to update to ICS. I have previously tried but ended in bootloop.
My current configuration is.
Firmware: 2.3.5
Baseband 19000XXJVT
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-19000XXJVT-CL617736
[email protected] #Semaphore_1.9.1bm
Can i just go into CWM and install
It depends which ICS Rom you want to use, theres Team Hacksung's ICS Port or One Cosmic's, imo TeamHacksungs one is the better choice, its easier to flash and to me, its slightly faster and more things in the Rom are working, if you want to flash team HackSung's one then just create a backup and flash over your current Rom if you want to use One Cosmics port, then you need to flash it over a Cyanogen Mod base Rom, simply flash a CM7 Rom, factory wipe, then flash the ICS Rom over it
(Be sure to hit the thanks button below the message if i helped)

Hi, I would like to know what is kernel, and what would it change in the phone, performance and display, i'm a gamer, so i would like a good kernel for games like asphalt 6, FL Commando and And NOVA 6, and how to install it, i'm using Zeus 6.32n
thanks a lot

I must admit that p970 is not so hard developed yet and as far as im concerned, we havent got any custom kernel for stock-based rom like Zeus. However, Diana kernel (which is used in newest version of Zeus v.36) is best for performance and battery life. As long as someone wont make a miracle, its only-one custom kernel for stock based ROMs.
In addition, it has overclocking and is tweaked for performance, so why do you need other kernel? Try installing newest version of zeus ROM and test if you are pleased with results.
Similar question: So if i install the newest zeus i already have a new kernel on the phone or do i still need to update the kernel? I now have Zeus v7.03 and the kernel version: 2.6.35. Any help is appreciated! Thx

If you install a newer Zeus Version 6.33 and up you have a different kernel that can use lower and higher frequencies. 2.6.35 is the basic linux kernel, alle Diana kernels have that number too. Up too diana kernel 2.3 it seems to be very stable, after 2.3 the kernels are all betas up till now and well beta is still experimental, for some it works well, for others maybe not. If you install Zeus 7.02 or .03 it comes with a beta kernel, but I'm rather sure you can still install the stable Diana kernel 2.3 after you installed Zeus 7.02 or .03.
BTW all that can be read in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1454274 , but OK it might take some time to go read that all, but before you ask more questions maybe you should at least try to read some of that thread (first page and maybe about last 3 weeks).

You gotta remember this ;-
You need kernel 2.6.35.7 for all ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) Roms
You need kernel 2.6.32.9 for most GB (Ginger Bread) Roms
Android RC3 runs on 2.6.35.7
I think you should flash RC3 via SUT. Flashing RC3 gives you a stable OS and automatically gives you Clockworkmod so you can boot into recovery and flash any ics rom directly after this or any 2.6.35.7 based GB Rom
For some reason though, on neither kernels, this -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619837 boots for me.
The indicator of wrong kernel is Blue screen on bootup

Flashing RC3 automatically gives you the ics kernel.
You can also use CK Kernel 0.4d in dev threads and flash via cwm but it will not work with your current rom

Yes. That should do the trick.
As an alternative, you can still flash GB stock from your manufacturer (most likely .32 kernel).

Hi, this is my first kernel, this based on the latest Ultima ICS kernel from riyal, with two minor tweaks
-now touchscreen reponse while swiping is 4px instead of 9px, so no more bumpy movements while draging items
-official "Sony Ericsson" boot logo
Information about the touchscreen problem (if you have not noticed it):
http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/40474
the problem is present in latest FXP (but probably not in next's) and also in stock kernel ICS
The solutions was 99% done by nicklas lof, here:
http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#/c/22164/
Works in Stock ICS, 431 and 587, it should work with FXP releases too
Installation:
Flash kernel using fastboot
Flash original Riyal wifi Modules using CWM
Riyals kernel thread is here
I do not deserve any credits on this, I just moved a line in code to compile and changed logo. :good:
What is Stock ICS 538? or you mean 587
the recovery are same or did u update it too ?
I have to install the img with fastboot ... And I have everything right???
Thanks for this kernel. will give it try one of these days
New Kernel for PRO [MK16a/i]
Thanks dafsoftware :good:
So just to clarify. Everything is the same as Ultima ICS Kernel v1.4 with the changes you made for the touchscreen precision and SE-X logo. The WiFi modules to flash are also of the v1.4 too right?
I'll try this when you confirm my query, as I am running on the Stock ICS MK16a 4.1.B.0.587 (US) build. I'll try to post any issues that I come across after flashing

MK16a Rooted, BL Unlocked

You are right, this is based in Ultima ICS v1.4, in fact Riyal already has this in his sourcecode, so next's versión should already have this fix, you have to use v1.4 modules

I use this kernel with stock ICS 587 and my phone gets freeze every time I unplug from charger and PC.
Anyone has the same problem?
Can you please update stock kernel to use this fix.
Or give some link to add recovery to stock kernel.
Thanks,

This is based on latest riyal changes, I think it has voltages messed up, so I will have to build it from stock kernel someday. I dont know how to add recovery to it.
I am, but not exactly when disconnecting the charger, only when its charging and very randomly, I think the source I am using has a messed up voltage table, I need to find the original voltage tables to fix it.

OK - after reading more it sounds like there has been some structural change to the driver model (something that needs fixed at a deeper level). Anyway, it would be great if you could additionally provide us with a ROM set at 2px just so we can see for ourselves.
Ext4
Does this kernel support the Ext4 partition? Great kernel by the way...
Edit : and.... Swap partition?
Even better than that, I notice that the Touch Move app has a "tune" mode which allows the user to tune the sensitivity themself. It's currently only compatible with a couple of GSII custom kernels:
http://tegrak2x.blogspot.co.uk/2011/10/touch-move-tune-compatible-kernels.html?m=1
It would be interesting to see if we could get Touch Move Tune working on Xperia devices too.
