Since I'm too new here to post in the Dev section, the simple solution to fix google maps crashing issue is to downgrade to version 6.9.2. I can't tell you the technical reason why 6.11.1 won't work other than from what I've read, it has something to do with HTC. I was running VI and maps was rebooting my phone. I'm running wajee's ROM v1.6 now and maps would also reboot my phone, so it wasn't a specific rom or a specific kernel as the different roms use different kernels, so it had to be the maps. I found a .apk of 6.9.2 on google and its been perfect for days now.
Now, an interesting note... My wife's vivid is stock and is running 6.11.1 with no issues, so maybe its the base these custom roms are built on? I don't know!
So downgrade to 6.9.2 for now and you'll be fine.

thanks for this mate, i was reading around cuz a few guys running similar custom ROMs have experience this. i will quote you on the DEV section and let the others know.
Just tried the newest version of maps that came out today (9/19/12 or 19/09/12 for my worldly friends) and still crashing and burning. going back to 6.9.2

nothing, thats the issue. I launch the app and without even touching it after that, the app reboots the phone within seconds. I've tried different roms and kernels, but still the same. I've cleared the cache and data from maps and still the same. I've even tried wiping the dalvik cache and nothing works, except reverting back to 6.9.2. Strange...

The issue, like u said is the base to which most custom Rooms are based of. Dark raider wouldn't b affected by that cuz its purely and entirely based of of the original 4.0 stock Rom. I have been trying to find the exact couse of the problem but I have yet not been able to. .. I will keep at it and keep u posted. And for now. We just got to stick to 6.9v of maps until this gets solve..

Happened before and a factory reset fixed it. Just tried to install the kangbang custom kernel (I have S-off'd my vivid) and it's happening again. Any ideas why/how to fix it? will factory reset fix it while letting me keep the custom kernel?
I thought kangbang didn't work on stock roms. I would try flashing a different kernel

Read through and it seems you're right. Just tried a different one that says it's compatible with all vivid rooted stock and custom roms... which mine is stock rooted... and same thing. any ideas?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575568 < kernel i tried
I see a bunch of instructions that include going in to some folders that dont exist on my phone.
I'm done with this crap, where can I download the stock kernel and just use the phone like it was meant to? this isn't worth the hassle it's giving me at all.
KB is still screwed up on Holiday base. Don't waste your time; even if it boots, you won't see a lot of its performance benefits.

It is too annoying
So I made Q&A thread for all my ports.
If you have an issue, try everything you can(reboot, wipe data/cache/dalvik AND SEARCH FOR SOLUTION)
And If you cannot find an answer, post question here.

As I said on the post, with Paranoidandroid, I've got soft reboots with smartassv2 or ondemand.

I've always been a HUGE fan of high DPI and this ROM feels like made for me Apart from few annoyances like soft reboots, I'm thinking of making it my daily driver. Is there a way I can set 600px as default without having to manually apply for each application?

Has anyone else been having data network issues with Paranoid Android v1.4? My phone would drop data and only reconnect if I rebooted (most times, ). Thought it might be the radio, no change. So I flashed Spazedog ICS and everything seems to be back to normal.
EDIT: N/M, lost data today intermittently *sigh*.
Hey, I would like to create a Paranoid Android from source for the HTC Desire. I would like to know which donor files you had used in this ROM and how would I include them once I've synced the repositries?
N1 PA Update??
Am I missing something here, or is the last update for the N1/Passion still stuck at 1.97 / 1.4?
Plenty of 1.991 updates on goo.im backup, but none for Passion

Hello all here is the issue. My girlfriend has the HtC vivid and I have rooted it and obtained s-off with the wire trick. After I was done with this I attempted to find a good ROM for flashing there are very few. I decided on Virtuous Inquisition after installing VI I was fairly happy with the outcome no sense is the goal here. After the flash I noticed the signal bars not working like descired in almost all the non-sense HtC vivid ROMs. This seemed like no problem because the phone still technically had service right?
-well after using it for a few days my girlfriend disconvered that her text messages would fail to send sometimes actually sending them sometimes not. It would take serveral attempts to send the message and once it finally sent the recipent would sometime recieve for than one messages even though the vivid says it only sent 1. The same thing occured with phone calls she would have to try to call someone four or five times before it would go through. It also works the other way and sometime she will not get messages or calls for long periods of time.
This all occurs in VI and in [TEAM CODEFIRE][ICS]De-Sensed Rom by Wajee 1.6. I have tried using the stock kernel and the provided kernel with both of these as well. I have also used several different APNs and they all do the same thing.
I just flashed the stock kernel and ROM back on to the device and I am seeing if she has any problems. Could the wire trick have damaged the phone? I have not heard of anyone else having this problem.
What else can I try
Both of the desensed ROMs have plenty of issues. Wajeeh's is probably the better bet if you wanna stick with no sense. Otherwise Google wcx illuminati and go with that. It's the best ROM for the vivid by a LONG shot.

Well I think I found my problem. I unlocked the boot loader on the phone the first time I flashed a ROM but re locked it. I just noticed it was lock so I unlocked it and installed wajee 1.6 and so far so good.

Like most people, I jumped at the chance to have Google Now w/ voice on my HTC Vivid running ICS. Worked well until the newer version came out which was JB only. I got tired of the 'newer version is available' nag so I removed Google Now using StockGoogleSearch.zip but apparently it left behind voicesearch.apk version 3.0.1 which would force close. I downloaded version 2.1.4, replaced it in the system/app folder and changed the permissions to be the same (rw user, r system) and it works well until I reboot. When I reboot it re-installs version 3.0.1 and I have to install 2.1.4 and it works again. I know I'm missing something obviously but I don't know what. Any ideas?
Just reflash your ROM without wiping should remove whatever Google now added

correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you have to run an RUU
You know you could have just swiped away the card notifying you of the new version, and it wouldn't have nagged you anymore. As far as removing it, you should have made a backup before flashing it, as is advised multiple times in the OP of the Google Now for ICS thread... just flashing whatever ROM you're running should get you back, but you may end up having to full wipe/reflash
I've been running holics 1.3 as my dd for a long time but I'm looking for something new. I heard the Pac Rom is nice. Anyone recommend anything better then go holics?

Noob questions
Hi,
I'm new here and I need to ask a couple of things. I really want to root the phone and work with it because the battery is killing me with its phenomenally short live.
So, the 2 questions. What rom would you recommend as worth to try? For what I have been reading Paranoid or PAC appears to be the one with almost no problems related to phone operability.
And the second question is where I can find a proper guide on how to root this phone? I am not new to rooting a phone have done that before with an HTC desire and a Galaxy S2 but I am having a hard time finding a proper guide to root the HTC vivid.
Thank you very much for your help and sorry for my noob questions.
There is a super guide in development

Borked 2.5 beta is a good choice. For being a beta it doesn't have very many bugs from what i've seen.

I've tried almost every ROM. JB ROMs isn't to att friendly as the in call volume is super low. first on ma list is virtouis inquisition on battery life an performance and sound quality second is darkraider has aroma installer and like 7 kernels to choose from an a whole bunch of install options and if u wanna change any of the kernels are settings offered to u in the install just reflash zip an gives u option to change setting super clean an super easy to use also very good on battery life performance and sound in audio and in call. jb ROMs I like cm10 with sultan kernel developed by a super smart 15 year old xda developer he's the only one working on the volume fix as we speak as and yes fixed a whole bunch of jelly bean ROM problems and the thing that flips my head the most is he don't even own or have a vivid
i'm also running cm10 with sultan kernal. runs great, no issues. if you use it you cant get the most up to date version of gapp's, there's a slightly older version that works with the vivid/cm10 much better
Seriously gotta try borked 3.2, its amazing.
