Like most people, I jumped at the chance to have Google Now w/ voice on my HTC Vivid running ICS. Worked well until the newer version came out which was JB only. I got tired of the 'newer version is available' nag so I removed Google Now using StockGoogleSearch.zip but apparently it left behind voicesearch.apk version 3.0.1 which would force close. I downloaded version 2.1.4, replaced it in the system/app folder and changed the permissions to be the same (rw user, r system) and it works well until I reboot. When I reboot it re-installs version 3.0.1 and I have to install 2.1.4 and it works again. I know I'm missing something obviously but I don't know what. Any ideas?
Just reflash your ROM without wiping should remove whatever Google now added

correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you have to run an RUU
You know you could have just swiped away the card notifying you of the new version, and it wouldn't have nagged you anymore. As far as removing it, you should have made a backup before flashing it, as is advised multiple times in the OP of the Google Now for ICS thread... just flashing whatever ROM you're running should get you back, but you may end up having to full wipe/reflash

I have found that in my recent installs of more than one rom, my market will not download apps. I installed ExEn Hero, AOSP 2.3.3, and Kifno's gingerbread sense. They all say downloading, then unsuccesful and quits.
I have tried using different versions of gapps. I have also done the cache and data clearing of download manager and market. I deleted the .android-secure file as well.
Nothing seems to work. Can any one help?

Puzzled ex en hero???? And what rom are you on now??? What recovery??? What kernel?? What version of gapps?? This might get you help faster. Also what were the exact steps you took to end up were you are now?? And what android secure file are you referring to??
Yea it's Me Again With The

That's the reason I removed anything gingerbread from my phone. All my nands were doing this. After removal, I restored nands and reinstalled the roms over top. Bam! Everything is fine again.

I had the same problem before and what I did was re installed the market and it started working fine. Also consider editing your market in the build.prop file so it shows up as the droid x market. This will end up showing you all of the protected apps and such look at this link

[Rom]AT&T Base Rum Float Beta 5 Rebirth Release V2/Stock [Sense 3.6][Aroma]S-OFF/ON
i am proud to present Rum Float Beta 5 Rebirth i have been in communication with pirateghost and he has given me permission to share his base but with my twist on the theme. there is a non-sense option included i have not used it. this is based on RUU 3.26.502.56 as per his old change log. this has only been tested on HTC Vivid i have not tested this on raider or velocity so flash with caution if wifi breaks please copy back over the correct wifi .ko file. the stock kernel is included as i dont know how to include any other kernel into aroma yet or i asked for permission to add. i have also added google now but have not tested to see if it flashes with the rom yet. if you want to add the dark forest tweaks i have on the forum it will work with out a problem. the theme i have created is from many different roms i prefer blue themes but i can add back the stock look also. after install i would suggest flashing kozimikkernel or faux either works just fine with this rom i have tested both without a problem.
Must be on ICE Hboot (if coming from GB please read the stickies to root and update your device accordingly before you flash it will soft brick)
Flashing on S-OFF boot.img will not flash correctly u need to install kernel after install to get it to boot (im working on this problem)
Flashing on S-On boot.img will NOT be flashed you have to manually flash the boot.img per Fastboot flash boot.img
Twrp/cwm recovery's work with this rom also. i havent tested WCX recovery.

Yeah...Rosie's nowhere to be found. Flashing a kernel also sent me into one of the most awkward bootloops I've seen. You'd see the android guy spinning, the launcher would seem to try to get going, but then you'd go right back to the droid spinning. I let that happen 2-3 or times and finally just pulled the battery and flashed back to Pegasus no problem

As stated before I flashed it using WCX so that could very well have been my problem. I'll switch over to twrp or cwm when I get a chance and try again. Both of the threads I've checked were lacking the ph93.img for cwm though...you know of anywhere I could find that?

So your phone is on Gingerbread? And you downloaded the official stock ICS update rom?

So she "did" the install on your phone (over the air update?) but the install didn't start yet? I don't think the situation is clear yet. What would you like to do, and what symptoms are getting in your way?

Just do this if you want to ever go back to ics stock
1) Download this ruu: http://dl3.htc.com/application/htc_vivid_att_RUU_3.26.502.56_US.exe I got the download from here http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-vivid-att/software-updates
2) just double click file it downloads when ever you want to go back to stock...it will walk you through the process
Extra info:
-ruu stands for Rom update utility
-it is the official stock ics
-no, your warranty won't be voided by using it...
-it can only be used on windows
-it will delete all your apps and everything (except for stuff on your sd and external sd...like any thing you downloaded from a browser or put on your phone through USB)
-it takes a while...if it gets stuck do not unplug just wait it out
-if your freaking out cause its taking so long just ask in the q&a section for advice

Since I'm too new here to post in the Dev section, the simple solution to fix google maps crashing issue is to downgrade to version 6.9.2. I can't tell you the technical reason why 6.11.1 won't work other than from what I've read, it has something to do with HTC. I was running VI and maps was rebooting my phone. I'm running wajee's ROM v1.6 now and maps would also reboot my phone, so it wasn't a specific rom or a specific kernel as the different roms use different kernels, so it had to be the maps. I found a .apk of 6.9.2 on google and its been perfect for days now.
Now, an interesting note... My wife's vivid is stock and is running 6.11.1 with no issues, so maybe its the base these custom roms are built on? I don't know!
So downgrade to 6.9.2 for now and you'll be fine.

nothing, thats the issue. I launch the app and without even touching it after that, the app reboots the phone within seconds. I've tried different roms and kernels, but still the same. I've cleared the cache and data from maps and still the same. I've even tried wiping the dalvik cache and nothing works, except reverting back to 6.9.2. Strange...

The issue, like u said is the base to which most custom Rooms are based of. Dark raider wouldn't b affected by that cuz its purely and entirely based of of the original 4.0 stock Rom. I have been trying to find the exact couse of the problem but I have yet not been able to. .. I will keep at it and keep u posted. And for now. We just got to stick to 6.9v of maps until this gets solve..

That option was there before too, but it reset it to "off" after updating. It's off by default in the shipped rom too, for some odd reason.
