[Q] Using Galaxy TAB 7" With External Hard Disk (P1000) - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anybody know solutions for using external drives in Galaxy TAB 7" ( P1000 ) ?
I 've searched some items, i found an " USB Server " or " Print Server " but they were supporting under LAN connection (not WIFI or Wired). Related search: http://s.dealextreme.com/search/usb+server :good:
I know that, P1000 does not support to attaching any usb flash or hard drive via 30pin connector adaptor.
I think, For the solution we must use an external device/adaptor that has been external powered and output connector has micro usb.
Did someone use to own p1000 with ext. hdd ?
Does any solution, idea or suggested item ?

You are right, this works. You need a kernel with support for USB Host and rooted ROM. To mount the external drive you can use the App "USB Host Controller".

Camera adapter / Sd card reader adapter for Nexus 7

Hey guys ...
I just bought my Google tab and I was wondering if one of you guys have found any device similar to a camera adapter / SD cards reader to be used with Nexus? I saw something like this for Ipad and Galaxy Tab. But I still didnt find any for Nexus.
Another option would be buy a mini USB - female USB TO WIDE OPEN the connection possibilities.
What do you guys think?

You could just get the otg cord and a standard USB card reader instead of trying to find one with a micro USB. And there's a app that you can get from the app store so you can import files without having to root. it's called nexus media importer. And there's a add on called nexus photo viewer. It's about $5 and the add on is free.

Ok ... I still prefer the idea of Ipad Camera connect kit, but if OTG cable works, fine by me!
Many thanks!

I just use a OTG USB cable and plug my camera into the tablet through the usual PC USB connection. Recognizes immediately, brings up the gallery import feature, and I import away.
Could always just get a usb card reader and plug into the OTG USB cable. I doubt you will find a micro usb OTG card reader, I've never seen one, but I could be wrong.

What I want to do is find a nice hub that's really small and I can power from my Mili Power Crystal, then I can power the hub from the battery which should provide easily enough power to spin up my WD Passport HDD.
It'd be both mobile, and functional. I just havn't found a nice, small, externally powered hub yet.
If I need large portable storage I'd go with this or something like this.

i have not tried i yet but the adapter also has an micro usb port
you should be able to charge it while you have your usb HD conected.
but one problem with this adapter is that its blocking the headphone jacket.

Not a good idea, when in host mode, the device outputs power on those pins as opposed to accepting power, at best, it won't work, at worst you could do damage.

lol ok thanks for that

Damn, that adapter looks awesome!
Can you confirm it that it has a microSD slot so you can simply put a 32/64GB card in AND also connect say a mouse or keyboard or something to work?
Here is an quivelant device:
Samsung S2 & S3 Multi-functional 4 in 1 Connection Kit : USB /SD Card/Micro SD/Micro USB Inputs
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-S2-Multi-functional-Connection-Kit/dp/B006MJZOMW
It seems that only one port at a time can be used. Quote from a user review "Only 1 port works at a time, so you cant have the SD, microSD, and a USB device in at the same time, only 1 shows up on the SIII"
Another user attached a powered USB hub to enable multi concurrent device connections. Quote "Then I was playing around and plugged a small 4 port powered hub, into the full USB port and hooked a keyboard mouse combination endgame controller on my 5.3 Note."

This cable seems to be compatible with an Xperia T, so what's the problem in your opinion ?
Do i need a specific application ?
Thanks by advance for your advices.

It looks like the usb part of the cable needs to be stuck into any usb port to draw power for the mhl cable.
Should work if I not mistaken there a certain order in which to plug them in an I believe it's hdmi to the tv power to mhl then micro usb to phone anyway give it a shot

Doesnt make a difference with my mhl cable, long as it has power via the short USB port that's connected it will work fine.

Internal OTG - up to 32gb memory extension - crazy idea??

Hi, I`m just wondering if it is possible to make kind of internal bypass on internal connector and make full time OTG directly connected to some little usb sdcard reader inside device (should be connected directly w/o original USB male and female connector due size reduction). In sd reader could be up to 32gb micro sd card. (or someone tryed 64gb yet?)
From software side every time it should looks like OTG and sdcard is connected.
Just wondering if it is possible to power up properly and connect with PC or another OTG after this messing up with hw
Thank you in advance for your opinion
EDIT: spare internal dock cable is not so expensive so everyone may give a try.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dock-Conn...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item20c68df444
I'm also very interested in this idea.
Have you search for ang other DIY projects?
Maybe you post this question in Galaxy Tab 10.1 forums?

Here i am!
It's not possible. For 3 reason:
1) there is no place physically inside device. Not even 1mm!!
2) you can't have at the same time the OTG feature and the connection to PC
3) you can't have at the same time the OTG feature and the charge from AC adapter
In this picture you can see a modification that i have made in my tab:

I have moved the dock connector. This it was possible because i have removed the battery. (in car the li-ion battery expolde!!")
Bye!
I found these two interesting ideas:

Maybe it is possible somehow to solder this adapter to 30 pin?

You can charge and use OTG at same time with this accessory:

Has anybody found a *tiny* USB-C OTG adapter?

With my Note 4, I could keep a tiny OTG adapter (pictured in the link below) in my wallet to give access to USB devices...
https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB19g5f...TG-Adapter-Converter-into-Flash-Drive-For.jpg
I can't seem to find a similar device for use with the Note 8.
Has anybody found anything like this?
Cheers,
Steve.
Perhaps not as tiny but the Note 8 comes with an OTG adapter used for transferring data from an older phone to a new one.

Yeah, I know - I was really wondering why there aren't any OTG adapters in the nano flat style. That's what I'm really after.
THIS is the smallest I've seen.
Well, there is another but the listing just seems a little dodgy - Clicky
I bought a usb 2.0 to C OTG adapter which did not work at all, and a 3.1 A to C which does so that may need to be a consideration beyond just the physical size.

I would have gone with the second one if the picture had actually been of a USB-C interface, rather than Micro USB.
If it can't fit in my wallet, then attaching it to my key-ring (with minimal size/bulk) is a reasonable alternative.
I keep both of these in my wallet. Type C to micro USB and a micro USB OTG adaptor.
Got them from Gearbest and/or Banggood.

It's nice to know that works - I ordered exactly the same from Gearbest a week ago.
