What I want to do is find a nice hub that's really small and I can power from my Mili Power Crystal, then I can power the hub from the battery which should provide easily enough power to spin up my WD Passport HDD.
It'd be both mobile, and functional. I just havn't found a nice, small, externally powered hub yet.
If I need large portable storage I'd go with this or something like this.

i have not tried i yet but the adapter also has an micro usb port
you should be able to charge it while you have your usb HD conected.
but one problem with this adapter is that its blocking the headphone jacket.

Not a good idea, when in host mode, the device outputs power on those pins as opposed to accepting power, at best, it won't work, at worst you could do damage.

lol ok thanks for that
i will not try it
Damn, that adapter looks awesome!
Can you confirm it that it has a microSD slot so you can simply put a 32/64GB card in AND also connect say a mouse or keyboard or something to work?
Here is an quivelant device:
Samsung S2 & S3 Multi-functional 4 in 1 Connection Kit : USB /SD Card/Micro SD/Micro USB Inputs
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-S2-Multi-functional-Connection-Kit/dp/B006MJZOMW
It seems that only one port at a time can be used. Quote from a user review "Only 1 port works at a time, so you cant have the SD, microSD, and a USB device in at the same time, only 1 shows up on the SIII"
Another user attached a powered USB hub to enable multi concurrent device connections. Quote "Then I was playing around and plugged a small 4 port powered hub, into the full USB port and hooked a keyboard mouse combination endgame controller on my 5.3 Note."

I have been sent a USB to USB cable to try by PowerTraveller as i was having trouble charging my Tab from their eXtreme battery pack. I have now tried it on the battery pack and just as importantly from regular USB ports (on my work PC).
It actually works!
Go here for the cable:

My pic of it as it's so new they haven't put one on the site yet:

I bought a bunch of these:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/usb-power-adapter-for-samsung-p1000-81753
And these work great. Works with any USB port.
Only thing it's charging only no data.
I have one of these little adapters, can use andy micro usb cable to charge, again no data, but can also use micro usb car chargers, and those for other phones, blackberries etc.
The connection's a little precarious, but that could just be mine, that and it was like $3 or something..
Thought i might drill a hole in it, make a keyring..
Superb !
Great to her about this accessories I just hope soon I will be able to get some kind of video connection for my GT-P1010, along with a kernel/rom that can send power as well as video signal to the usb connector that comes with the tab !
Am I asking to much here?, well dont know yet, time will tell, for now I just keep searching. Cheers to you all
And on top of all these, Im looking to buy another tablet (dont know which one yet!) and will give the P1010 to my mom who is fascinated with the device

just ordered one of these, we'll see how well it works in a couple weeks I guess.. Thanks!
i think i'll order one of each (in the posts above), you never can have too many chargers! (it'll be nice to have both charging and data in the same cable.) I bought a few diff ones from amazon that were for charging, but they only charge if you use the wall charger, won't charge off the laptop no matter what i try.
yeah, i like to have at least 3 cables.. 1 for home, 1 for work, and 1 to carry around/travel with..
Does anybody know solutions for using external drives in Galaxy TAB 7" ( P1000 ) ?
I 've searched some items, i found an " USB Server " or " Print Server " but they were supporting under LAN connection (not WIFI or Wired). Related search: http://s.dealextreme.com/search/usb+server :good:
I know that, P1000 does not support to attaching any usb flash or hard drive via 30pin connector adaptor.
I think, For the solution we must use an external device/adaptor that has been external powered and output connector has micro usb.
Did someone use to own p1000 with ext. hdd ?
Does any solution, idea or suggested item ?

You are right, this works. You need a kernel with support for USB Host and rooted ROM. To mount the external drive you can use the App "USB Host Controller".

Something like this.
Then with usb host controllers works great But is sad It can't suply power. It's so bulky cause I made ith a hub xD
Hi, I`m just wondering if it is possible to make kind of internal bypass on internal connector and make full time OTG directly connected to some little usb sdcard reader inside device (should be connected directly w/o original USB male and female connector due size reduction). In sd reader could be up to 32gb micro sd card. (or someone tryed 64gb yet?)
From software side every time it should looks like OTG and sdcard is connected.
Just wondering if it is possible to power up properly and connect with PC or another OTG after this messing up with hw
Thank you in advance for your opinion
EDIT: spare internal dock cable is not so expensive so everyone may give a try.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dock-Conn...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item20c68df444
I'm also very interested in this idea.
Have you search for ang other DIY projects?
Maybe you post this question in Galaxy Tab 10.1 forums?

Here i am!
It's not possible. For 3 reason:
1) there is no place physically inside device. Not even 1mm!!
2) you can't have at the same time the OTG feature and the connection to PC
3) you can't have at the same time the OTG feature and the charge from AC adapter
In this picture you can see a modification that i have made in my tab:

Hello,
I'm looking for an OTG to USB Type C adapter that allows charging at the same time. Does such a device exist? Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance
Not sure. Have you tried looking at powered USB type c hubs to see if this will also net the same result? I might consider this if and when I get a note8. Dex station might also do this. Haven't really checked it out but assume it will.

Yeah you need a hub. I usually find eBay had better prices then Amazon
I just use this to project. Looking for another one that can charge etc.

USB C pasthrough powered docking typically has no Adaptive Charging.
A product that may fit your need for pass through charging. I'm using the j5create model JCA374. Ports include HDMI, Ethernet, 2x USB 3 OTG, Type C pass through power in (standard charging rate), and a USB C cable to connect to the hosting device.
Besides no support for Adaptive Charging it does get warm. I am considering attaching a heat sync to its metal case.
Enjoy your mobile life.

The DEX station has two caveats I am aware of.
It does have a USB C input charging port. This port does not support adaptive charging. So I am concerned that a heavily utilized phone could slowly discharge despite the charger. This was the one flaw I could not surmount with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 tablet.
The DEX station male USB C docking port is to short to support any case that provides any coverage around the phones port.
Enjoy your mobile life.
Does the j5create model JCA374 start Dex on the S8? are USB transfers truly 3.0 speeds and gigabit truly over 100Mbps using this adapter? I'm looking at this as an alternative to the Dex station because I use an Otterbox Defender case on my S8 and also because of the lower price. Thanks.
With my Note 4, I could keep a tiny OTG adapter (pictured in the link below) in my wallet to give access to USB devices...
https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB19g5f...TG-Adapter-Converter-into-Flash-Drive-For.jpg
I can't seem to find a similar device for use with the Note 8.
Has anybody found anything like this?
Cheers,
Steve.
Perhaps not as tiny but the Note 8 comes with an OTG adapter used for transferring data from an older phone to a new one.

Yeah, I know - I was really wondering why there aren't any OTG adapters in the nano flat style. That's what I'm really after.
THIS is the smallest I've seen.
Well, there is another but the listing just seems a little dodgy - Clicky
I bought a usb 2.0 to C OTG adapter which did not work at all, and a 3.1 A to C which does so that may need to be a consideration beyond just the physical size.

I would have gone with the second one if the picture had actually been of a USB-C interface, rather than Micro USB.
If it can't fit in my wallet, then attaching it to my key-ring (with minimal size/bulk) is a reasonable alternative.
I keep both of these in my wallet. Type C to micro USB and a micro USB OTG adaptor.
Got them from Gearbest and/or Banggood.
