Hey guys, I just increased my overall signal for my htc incredible S to 79dBm.
Now i have 4 bars instead of 2 .
Fix is easy:
You need a strip of foil, scissors and tape.
Now my palm doesn't decrease signal anymore.
I'm just wondering what i can use instead of foil, which one has less resistance.
I know gold and silver does, but hey those are way too expensive .
After getting enough responses, i will rewrite this and add [TUTORIAL] line.

UPDATED:
I'm using latest radio now, signal still low without attached cover modification, but with it I get significant signal increase.
I post step by step tutorial later! Stay tuned guys.
Is it possible to use this solution for WiFi problems as well?
If you could elaborate on what you actually did?
And what was the problem you had that prompted this?
i don't seem to be having any problem with reception atm...
Since the GB update, which I installed yesterday, I keep loosing my WiFi signal. Before the update I had a good reception. But when I hold the mobile now, the signal drops and then the icon of WiFi disappears.
Also the gsm reception seems to be worse then before.
I'm going to try the solution above and see if it helps.

I brought antenna up from palm location (Otherwise signal decreased dramatically), I'm just thinking what material have better +dBm, Getting +10dBm would be awesome .
Why i made this topic was comparison with my and my friend's phone. He have Nokia Xpressmusic, i have Inc S, and he had 5 of 5, i had 1 out of 4 atm. I try to find out material resistances. Copper wire or alu must be OK.
Gotta go to football match, See ya later!

Already tried that. Very bad reception. Keep losing signal. Doesn't reconnect
Looks like it has some kind of deathgrip.

Try without holding your palm on cover, still poor signal?
And how many metres is your router away, is this forced with 100% output power?`
Try with other devices, if still persists then this may be caused from corrupted Radio.
Hope I helped.

It's quite a distances to the router.
Is there a possibility to reflash the phone?
Death grip here too. Would appreciate a solution.
Select settings: wireless & networks: mobile networks: gsm and wcdma.
Next select settings: about phone: network.
Hold in hand and see connection drop to 0asu eventually.

The GB update seems to have raised the "signal strength minimum value", so that it shuts down wi-fi at a higher signal strength than on 2.2.
it seems to be part of android 2.3
This should explain why when I tested Incredible S (with 2.2) and the Desire S (with 2.3) side by side, the Desire S dropped the wifi connection while the incredible S held the connection. (I was testing on a network with very poor signal)
Now, as it too got 2.3 - it seems the Incredible S has gotten as "bad" as the desire s.......
I hope many people report this to HTC. I did.

PLease tell me if it helped.
It looks like the reception is better in the house. So yes it works.
In my bedroom I went from 2 bars to 3 bars.
Could any of you who have the wi-fi issue try this with a different router?
It is possible the router may be faulty, or as already pointed out, the distance may be over what the router covers.
if not, this seems to be quite an issue which will need to be looked into
Ok, I´ve done a hard reset and it seems to be improved.
WiFi signal switches from fair to good and back. So I´m fine with it.

No no, before the update, I had connection in my bed. After update - same location - wifi disconnects. Signal strenght seems the same.
It's not the router.....
Guys, we have the same problem with the Desire S (chech the forums) after the 2.3.3 update. It's very likely software related (phone dropping the connect after it's under certain signal value ... viva la HTC update).
Check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061502&page=3
I tried it but it doesn't seem to affect my signal strengt. Signal still changes between 51 dBm and 88 dBm.
better conductor

i Believe copper will work much better but its much harder to find in a thin "foil" form
btw i havnt found a design that increases reception yet but if you hold the phone upside down it helps
Hi, when I'm abroad using wifi (so no cellular data), my battery lasts longer compared to being at home, also on Wifi. how can this be possible? shouldnt cellular data be deactivated as soon as i activate wifi?
thanks in advance

Depends on what Wi-Fi network you're connecting to. In theory - 5Ghz network takes more battery than 2.4Ghz or a/b/g network. Also, signal strength also plays it's role - constant low signal forces the antenna to work harder - and at home you always get good signal.
Who knows, maybe that's the reason.
Maybe when you are home the data connection stays in the background waiting for you to drop off wifi network and therefore eats up the battery
but when you are on roaming the data connection is turned off completely to save on data bill
this is just an assumption...
what I usually do is when am at home or work, I turn off data and turn on wifi manually instead of letting the phone choose for me. I've found that this helps in conserving battery
No, thats not how it works.. Your cellular data connection is active, just unused.

I do this too, in fact I use Llama to do it for me. It saves a lot of battery.
Thanks, that's what I thought. But why can't android simply deactivate data when connected. I don't get why there is no such option.

My GT-I9070P seems to have weak wifi reception. Next to a laptop receiving 5 bars from a hotspot, my phone is only getting one or two bars from the same hotspot. In addition, many other SSIDs that my laptop see my phone does not. Is there any way to improve the wifi reception?
Well , I have no problems here , perhaps your WiFi hardware is defective ?
Might also be a software issue .
I'm the only guy b*tch you'll ever find in XDA.

Your phone receiver is smaller than the one your notebook, so seeing difference in reception isn't a fair comparison because your notebook will always win.
The same about not seeing all ssids.
Nothing much to do about reception, but there are a couple of tweaks for networking posted on the forums.

Mine has issues too. I noticed it improved a little with custom rom JetMod But then I upgraded to JB stock with latest CoCore kernel and its back again to where it started.
I once found a website where it said that of you enter maintenance mode you can adjust the power saving mode of the wifi But when I tried That stock ROM wouldnt let me change the setting. I hope my experience is of any help.

One issue i've noticed about my Note 3 is that where i would normally have great wifi connection with my old S3 (in my own living room) my note 3 would give me a notification saying the "Wi-FI connection is unstable". Even in my room sometimes i would have a perfect WiFi connection and other times i have a wifi connection but it is too "unstable" to use. On top of that i've noticed my internet speed on my Note 3 is significantly slower than my S3, and i know it isn't my wifi connection because my laptop runs the same speed as it always has. I was wonder if anyone could help me out here. Is it a hardware or software problem?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
I get this every once in a while when I am at the fringe of the WiFi range or where there are an excessive amount of WiFi overlapping. The WiFi strength on this is much better than any other phone I have had as I can actually go into certain areas of work now and still connect. These areas are pretty much a large metal lined box so wasn't expecting to connect as my note 2 doesn't, an iPhone 5 & 5s will not connect in there either.
I just turned off the automatic switching between WiFi and mobile and no longer get the message.

I tried turning off that setting and this problem still occurs. Is that a hardware or software problem? Have i maybe received a defective Note 3?

wipe your cache partition. you don't lose any data or important info or apps. some reported this helped them. http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-9049#cache_partition
Well I've recently started getting issues with the WiFi connection.
I'm sitting a few feet away from my router and should be getting full signals. But what I really get is full signals for a second, then 1 signal, then 2, 1 again, and then the WiFi disconnects and then reconnects.
I'm able to browse the internet fine ( with small breaks when it disconnects and reconnects ) but my phone has started to heat up. I've noticed it only heats up this much when using WiFi.
Any fixes or causes for this problem ?
Your Wi-Fi router is compromised. Do a Google search for chameleon. That's all I can tell you do to NDA.
Ya I agree router issue I had similar problem were I would drop wifi signal at home and had to restart phone to reconnect... Exchanged router and all is well.... AT&T n6 stock

I'll check this out. Thanks.
I agree with others. Definitely a router issue I'd say. No problems for me.

When the phone had root access, you could change the WiFi interval.
I changed it with the build.prop editor. I changed the value of wifi_supplicant_scan_interval from 10 tot 200.
