Hi all,
I have the Note(1) with stock Vodafone (AU) ICS 4.0.4.
With the search function from the home or launcher screen (press and hold the menu button), as soon as I type the first letter, the search progress animation starts to appear and spin, however very often this takes like 5-10 seconds, before the animation stops, and it shows no results (even though there should be).
If I then clear the search and start typing again, it will show me correct results.
I only have "Apps" checked for the "Searchable items" in the search settings.
Is this a known ICS bug? Has anyone got this problem? Any solutions?
Thanks!
Haven't heard of this issue before and don't have it myself.
You could try clearing the cache and data of the search bar in manage applications, then reboot, wipe dalvik cache and cache if you're on a safe kernel, then reboot, see if that clears it.

Thanks. The problem comes and goes. I have tried clearing the data of Google Search but the issue still comes back.
My device isn't rooted so I cannot clear the dalvik cache right?

Yes that's right, you can just clear cache in recovery.

Since the upgrade to FRF91, my AT&T nexus one has been somewhat laggy, and I even got an "App is not responding, force close?" dialog, which I believe is the first of those I have gotten on the Nexus One. Animations between programs almost always stutter now, while on the original Froyo release, this was not an issue.

I would try the following (assuming you are STOCK):
Turn your phone off
Mail it to me (kidding)
Hold Volume Down and power back on (puts you into Stock Recovery)
Press the Volume Up and Power at same time (brings up the Recovery Menu)
Select Wipe Cache Partition (or similar)
Reboot
Hope this helps!
After download FRF91 on my stock N1 the apps run really smooth and in
FRF85B I had alot of force close pop-ups.
I did a wipe cache and wipe cache devik and installed the FRF91 and my N1 is running silky smooth and fast with all apps.
Ok, tried that. Seems better, but it might just be that fresh feeling after a reboot. Thanks for your help.

Does this process have any undesirable effects? By this I mean, does it erase anything one would likely want to keep?
what if you have RA recovery? how do you wipe cache?

No side effects at all. The first boot after wipe may take longer cause the dalvik cache has to be recreated. No necessary data and no settings get lost.
For amon ra select wipe -- cache and wipe -- dalvik cache
You should do this after every rom update and kernel update. I am flashing kernels nearly every day and wipe helps 99% when facing problems!
Hey!
I flashed a gingerbread build, and the camera has stopped working. I reflashed cyanogenmod 6.1.1 and it still doesnt work. What should i try next? I just get force close when I try to access the canera.
Do a full wipe, and try your CM again...

Thanks mate! I just did a data wipe, and cache wipe in Clockwork. Had the latest GB build as update.zip on my sdcard, and I'm reinstalling it as we speak
Edit: Still doesnt work. When I press the camera icon, the screen just go black, and I have to press home to get the screen to work again.
I think GB is the problem, that's why I suggested a full wipe before returning to CM...

I'm now gonna replace clockwork with amon-ra. And do the wiping options there, then install the CM.
Does that count as a full wipe?
If you wipe cache, dalvik, and data, yes...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
did all the wiping options in amon-ra, and reinstalled CM. Still black screen when accessing camera. Should i try to install a diffrent radio or something? Completely lost now
I can't see why the radio would be the problem, if it worked before...
Only other suggestion I have is to delete the data from the comers app...?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
go to settings, applications, manage applications, all, camera, clear data/cache.
Tried it now. Still same black screen But i really apriciate appreciate all the help you guys are giving me
Edit: Tought it could be the connection hardwarewise to the camera that could be unstable. So i gave the camera part of the phone, a hard knock. And it works now
As it sounds in the title. I am helping a friend out with his Tab. I have tried various ROMS, but the issue still remains and that is, the Tab loads from a restart, every app force closes. I mean every app. I can go into the drawer click on an app, and it force closes before it even opens. I am at a loss. I have an Android phone but this one has me stumped. Any thoughts?

Have you done a full factory wipe to try starting from scratch? Found the stock rom and flashed that? Let us know what steps you've taken and we can probably help you get your friend up and running again.
I have done a factory wipe. I booted into recovery, wipe data/factory reset as well as wipe the cache partition. It also seems to reset the settings every time the Tab is rebooted. Should it affect it if the Tablet is not connected to any service? He is just using it as a side gadget. He hooks it up to wifi occasionally, but that's about it.
I would download a good stock carrier rom and kernel for whatever version he has (vzw sprint...whatever) and set it back to as it shipped from carrier. Maybe a system file is shot.

I flashed to a stock VZW rom, and no dice. When it reboots, all of the apps force close either at startup or when they are pressed. This is ridiculous!
I used this ROM
When I flashed it back to stock, the Setup Wizard keeps force closing. So now I can't even get to the homescreen or even the activate screen to bypass activation.
Are you flashing through recovery or using odin? That would be my advice, get a stock tar and odin
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
try flashing a kernel with clockwork. then flash whatever rom. and do wipe data, wipe cache, and then go into advanced, and wipe the dalvik cache.
Any thoughts on which one?
I know there have been other threads relating to this. It will never do a full reset. It always recovers to a previous image.
Odin with a stock tar

I have done a flash using the stock rom. The issue that it is having, is that everytime I reboot the Tab, I ALWAYS have to start from scratch. The ROM changes when I flash, but all of the previous users info is still there. I go in to app management remove every 3rd party app I can find, any personal data (i.e. google accounts, messages etc.), but when I reboot the Tab, ALL of the info that I just deleted is back on device. After just a simple reboot. I tried just installing CWM but superuser keeps force closing so I can never boot into CWM recovery. Any of the kernels that I can find no longer have valid links, does any one have a kernel available. Very frustrating! I have used both Odin and Heimdall.
Hi
im on custom jvu 2.3.6 and everything keeps closing
the dialer and messages especially
There is no force close at all.
It started about two weeks after i flashed it. It gradually gets worse and worse sometimes they stay open sometime not.
I re flashed and the problem went away but came back.
Anyone any ideas how to fix this.
How can i back my phone up so I've got all my messages and numbers.
Kies does not find the phone but oden does
thanks
I advice you to wipe cache and dalvik cache via recovery or delete data of the applications that cannot working fine via "Settings"

You could try titanium backup or rom toolbox, long press the app and you will get a menu to clear whatever, but in titanium select the app, clear data,
Fixing the permissions via cwm might help also

Hi everyone,
I hope someone can help me. One week ago I upgraded to Pie on my Galaxy Note9 (Verizon). Ever since, I've been having a problem updating apps in Google Play. Most of apps get stuck on Download Pending. A few go through just fine, but most don't. When I turn off my NordVPN, every update goes through without a problem. I never had this problem on Oreo, and I don't want to have to turn off VPN every time I update.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions or solutions?
Thank you.
Try clearing cache and data on the google play app or maybe loadvpn has a glitch with android pie and u could report it. Also try wiping cache on phone by going into stock recovery.

Hi. This seems to have worked. Thank you very much.
First I cleared cache in Settings > Device Care > Storage, and Memory
Then I went to Settings > Apps and cleared out cache in Google Play
I don't know about clearing cache in stock recovery, is that a better way of doing it?
Thanks again
Well if wiping data and cache helped no need to wipe cache on stock recovery. What wipe cache does is help phone perform better sometimes. But it doesnt delete anything. U could do it. All u gotta do is power off phone then hold volume up and bixby button and press power button also and it should take u to stock recovery then use volumes(up or down) to highlight wipe cache then highlight yes and wipe it them reboot and it should perform better.
