Need a small tutorial. - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been searching around, but it still isn't really clear to me so I decided to make a thread.
I'm currently running an old version of Stunner ROM Beta v 5.0. (Yes, really old)
Baseband version: XXLA4
Kernel: I9220ZCLP5.
Android 4.0.4
The thing is, that I would like to try out Paranoidandroid, but for that I'd need to (from what I've read) be on a CM9/CM10 ROM.
I've heard some bad things about the bricked stunner devices and ever since that I haven't really had the guts to modify anything.
Would one of you be so kind to put together a little tutorial on how to get to running Paranoidandroid's latest version? Or the ICS based version if that's a lot easier. I don't really mind that much for JB beta's.
It's greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance,
Lanarix.

1) Boot to recovery
2) Flash safe kernel, Abyss or Hydracore.
3) Reboot in recovery. advanced > reboot in recovery.
4) Full wipe
5) Flash ROM of your choice.
This is just off the top of my head, I'm sure if you search round you will find a better guide

Thank you, but I do need to get back to a pre-rooted GB ROM first right? And then flash CM9 over it, right?
And at step 3 you repeated reboot in recovery, that can't be what you meant haha ;p

Download PA/gapps
Download hydracore kernel
Reboot to cwm flash hydracore
Reboot recovery
Wipe all
Flash PA/gapps

So if I understand this correctly, I don't even have to go back to a GB rooted ROM? That'd make things a lot easier.

You are correct.
I didn't put reboot in recovery twice I was trying to tell you how to "reboot in recovery".
Sorry if I don't make sense I'm half asleep lol.

The ParanoidAndroid thread says it's a JB Rom, so I suppose I'm unable to just flash it from a ICS ROM like mine?
Or am I wrong again? I know ICS > ICS is fine now, but is ICS > JB do-able in my case? From this ROM I use right now?

Ah alright, that clears it up.
EDIT: I just watched the tutorial and it says "DON'T flash FROM ANY SAMSUNG ICS OR ROMS BASED ON SAMSUNG KERNELS (my CM9, AOSP, etc)"
So this says I need to go back to GB, but is it different nowadays?
Sorry for all the questions.. I'm really a lot behind..

Thanks, will do it via Mobile ODIN.

If your running on ics dont flash paranoid it will hardbrick your phone, go back to gingerbread first and then you can flash paranoid.

From Samsung ICS to CM10

Hello,
Right now, my Galaxy Note is running a rooted version Samsung ICS:
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband Version: N7000XXLPT
Kernel Version: 3.0.150N7000XXLPY-CL474507
Build Number: IML74K.XXLPY
I'd like to try CM10, but I've been reading a lot of issues from people flashing ROMs from Samsung ICS. What would be the safest way to install CM10? Should I downgrade to a Samsung Gingerbread ROM first? What procedure would you guys recommend?
Thanks,
Tiago
It is important to downgrade first to samsung stock GB.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JO93XJ2C8pc&feature=plcp
Follow his instructions to a tee and you should be good to go.
The youtube video is courtesy of aphroditelikesme(all credits to the dude, as I constantly subscribed to his youtube videos)
Don't forget to hit the 'Thank's button if I have helped you in some way or the other.
Thanks a lot!
But should I flash a stock Samsung GB ROM or a rooted GB ROM? Should I use CWM or Odin to flash GB?

you can flash the pre rooted GB rom by Chainfire...then flash the cf kernel....do a full wipe and then just flash CM10. Find the procedure here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784
Go to section 1.3 and u find the way....hope it helps....:good:
Flash it to stock GB
here's the other link for the video.. again all courtesy to the creator of that video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr3DDEh8vyc
There's also the links of the ROM (choose checkROM GB or RocketROM) and the kernel you need to download.
Just follow his video bud, (I'm following his video for flashing roms and I never miss going back to this video to downgrade to GB)
Cheers!
I see. So flashing Abyss kernel from Samsung ICS (LPY kernel) using CWM is actually safe? I just want to be sure because I've seen many people advising not to use CWM at all if you are on a Samsung ICS ROM.
abysskernel is not an infected kernel, that is why mostly when your going to downgrade to gingerbread.. most flashers will tell you to flash first to abysskernel then flash the GB rom after.

OK, I flashed Abyss kernel (worked fine), rebooted recovery, made a full wipe, flashed Rocket ROM and rebooted the system. I see the boot animation, but after that, nothing happens (blank screen). I've waited over 5 minutes, but the ROM doesn't boot. Anything else I can try?
I'm f*cking tired of explaining this over and over again...MY GOD!! You could've just read the CM9 installation instructions, CHECKED OUT THE STICKIES, ANYTHING LIKE THAT!
THE ONLY 100% SAFE WAY TO GET RID OF AN INFECTED KERNEL IS TO FLASH TO GB THROUGH PC ODIN!! Why the F*CK does everyone prefer to flash abyss and take that risk...!?
IF!! You're confident that RocketRom flashed correctly, you could probably full wipe (AGAIN) from recovery (you'd be on a safe kernel) and that should solve your problem...
Wait for a 2nd opinion though...

You can wipe with Notecore but DO NOT flash any CM9/10 ROM over ICS kernels.
Better you flash Abyss kernel, and then flash some CM9 ROM to meet requirements as per ROM OP.
Here is what written on your chosen rom thread .
Download and Installation
DO NOT FLASH FROM A SAMSUNG ICS KERNEL, PLEASE ONLY BE ON A WORKING RECOVERY. CM9, CM10, PARANOID, AOKP, ASYLUM ICS.
+1, very good and clear advice

As long as it's a safe kernel(meaning you can safely wipe data and caches) you can flash ANY ROM in top of it.. You can ask this to entrophy.. You don't need a gb kernel

Best way to flash CM9/AOKP/AOSP from ICS is to revert back to GB and then flash rom.
As this method consumes a little bit more time to revert back/rooting device(Sometimes you lose root) people use Abyss Redpill Original Logo.
But as long as you are on safe kernel you can flash on ICS..(Some members face FC's)

Flash latest Notecore kernel using pc odin, it will root and install cwm recovery as well, once you are on this safe kernel you can flash any custom rom via cwm recovery. No need to flash GB for this.
Note- you have to use triangle away to reset binary count after flashin custom kernel.
You can also follow flashing guide on your selected rom thread after flashin custom kernel.

Whenever you change the base like cm9 to ics then it is recommended to flash gb to be safe. But you can use shortcuts too like abyss or direct wipe and flash from cwm. The first way gives you full performance with extra juice. No fcs and sods.

How to upgrade to ICS from Zeus 6.39 ROM

Presently, i am using Zeus 6.39 ROM...
I have some doubts..
As in a month or two, ICS is going to be released, so I wanted to know best suggestions and procedure to upgrade to ICS.
I think it's not possible to upgrade to ICS from Zeus 6.39 ROM, phone may get bricked.
My plan is to Flash the Official ROM that is country related and is official release. Then upgrade to ICS with LG update tool. Other than this if there is any best procedure to upgrade without bricking or difficulties, please suggest me & it will also be helpful for so many people.

Too optimistic post . BTW just to inform you, if and if your country got the ICS update over OTA then check xda back if your country version (or similar) has been posted here as backup or flashable zip. Download it and flash or restore by CWM. Dont not install superuser as it will be going after update anyway Now you can check LG update tool or OTA, menu in mobile->about option. Thats nnot much tough. Is it?

I think no need of new trick for rooting ICS
Bcoz....as we have ROM Converter & CWM injector....we can download the ROM and inject CWM...
so, we can have rooted ICS...
Let us have a try when it releases..

Wot did you mean? ROM convertor or injector is not new thing (may be for OB) if it was like this then all mobiles (android based) will need just a converter to do it for any version rooting. Have you listen about "bootlocker"? And if wot you say will happen then only thing will be left to port ROM convertor to any models and dats all.
I didn't know about bootlocker
so it mean ROM converter is only for OB for only Gingerbread ? not for ICS ?
