Let's talk Bootloaders - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all KFHD users, I am writing this to ask a few questions and get some gears turning.
1st:Are there any true devs here? If you have to ask whether you are, well you aren't.
2nd:I have been researching locked boot loaders, and it seems our locked boot loader is similar to the nook tablet, found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1440438
3rd:Is anyone excited? I love when I plan gets ready to start coming together...

Yes just picked mine up today. Would love to know how to root this device also.
With this phone being released on AT&T on November 6th there will most certainly be a tremendous increase in the desire for root and dev involvement. It won't be long before this phone has it's own forum and a whole lot of XDA love. I'm one of the many that has been waiting for this phone to come out since it was leaked back in May and I can hardly wait to get my hands on one!
Adding support to this thread. Would love to get root for my Raider! Will also help out this process in anyway I can.

+1. I plan on picking up this device on monday
Does the raider/vivid have the ability to do HDMI out?
it has a mhl port which is physically identical to a micro usb, it does do hdmi out but you need an adapter
google mhl to hdmi and it will all come up
Do we know if the boot loader is locked or unlocked?
Add your vote here to get an HTC Holiday/Raider/Vivid forum added.
Anyone try the regular rooting methods

I'm not able to post links, but if you google htc bootloader and go to htcdev.com it will all be there, I believe that's what he's referring to.

How To Unlock the Nexus 4 Bootloader

I found the below information on the Android Central website. Provides step by step instructions on how to unlock the bootloader and also the tools needed to accomplish the task. I take no credit for the information, I just wanted to pass it along to everyone else that may be interested. Peace.
http://www.androidcentral.com/how-unlock-nexus-4-bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
install super user
TADA you have root.
I'm surprised someone wrote an article on how to do this :\
This is not a locked down Verizon galaxy S3
Bootloader is unlockable via android-sdk fastboot
You boot a unsecure boot.img allowing mounting as root in adb
Push SU binaries and SuperSU (or superuser) apk over
tada reboot.

I complete agree with your post. However, there are a lot of people new to the Nexus (like myself) that may not know how to perform this task. Any step by step instructions (no matter how easy) are welcome. Peace bro.
If you're nervous about first-time unlocking and rooting, I'm positive there will be an all-in-one toolkit released shortly after the phone arrives. I'd always recommend learning how things actually work, but the toolkits are a great solution for people who aren't tinkerers and are only going to do it once.

Please please please, if you're trying to give someone helpful advice don't refer them to a toolkit. Have you seen how many post were in the galaxy nexus forums from people using that toolkit and when something went wrong they had absolutely no idea how to fix it.
If you'd really like to learn how to root this device please do it the right way and take the time to learn so when something goes wrong you have the know how to fix it, and also it really isn't difficult.
If you really feel the need to use a toolkit do so after you've learned the basics. Not trying to be a ****, so please don't take this post that way.

The more people know that rooting is a simple process, at least on a Nexus, the better off the Android scene becomes, as people untap the full power of their devices.

I'm not sure if I just misunderstood this or what, but I want to clarify this a bit.
"Fastboot oem unlock" unlocks the bootloader. Correct.
Now, when you say "install super user", it looked like you were saying it like a command prompt.
Just to clarify for some people who don't know...That isn't a cmd prompt. You will have to boot into a custom recovery, then flash the su.zip.

[Q] Atrix ROMs?

I was looking forward to buying this phone instead of the GS3 as I'm on T-Mobile. However, when I was browsing through the Development section I don't see anything. Can anyone inform me on why this phone doesn't have that much ROM support yet?

Locked boot loader my man. We have root now. Root and safestrap are pretty recent, so that's why there are limited ROMs. We couldn't root for a while, but now we can, but only if you stay on ICS to root before upgrading to the leaked JB.

Another thing is that we only have 8Gb of internal storage, thus leaving little room for ROM slots on the internal sdcard using SS3 recovery.
I just finished an internal/external memory swap script in the DEV section, so this should help free up some space for ROMs.

There are two different Atrix HD ROM's out as of 12/02/2012. Must not have looked very hard.
Don't expect Development on a Locked Bootloader.

Yes, I've rooted, installed safestrap, made a back up. Haven't tried that script to switch internal and external memory yet, sounds scary.
Just saw on Engadget that Razr HD and Razr HD Maxx just got 4.1 official. Hope that comes to Atrix HD too (and all carriers).

Girl into Droid!

Hello everyone!
My name is Anastasia, I am 19 years old, from London.
Yesterday, I bought myself (thanks to my payday) a brand new Asus Google Nexus 7, 32gb, from Argos (shop).
I keep reading what you get with root, and it made me WANT to root it.
Here's my information:
Nexus 7
JOP40D
4.2.1
So, the tablet is brand new, and I HAVEN'T touched it, except when I downloaded few Apps. So, all I want, is to ROOT it in the safest and easiest way. I am scared that it brakes? Anyways, what is the FIRST step? I need it rooted and ready to rock. (Themes, Hide bar, etc.). What, Should, I, Do? Thanks a lot to everyone! I hope I can make it? Take care xoxo

Don't worry. The Nexus 7 is almost unbrickable (can't break it by messing with the software).
You should definatly root it, and when you get the knowladge of what you are doing get a custom recovery, and flash a new ROM, maybe a theme. Trust me you just got a device running android. It's never ending fun. :highfive:
Here you go. http://xda-university.com/.
That site will help you learn what you are doing.
U can try wugfresh toolkit. That's what i used and has the instructions with it. You will need to have adb set up. there video on YouTube showing steps to set it up with the nexus 7As for roms i have smoothrom installed u can change your theme with theme manager. U can download the themes from playmarket or on the xdA website.

Woah! Is that a brick? Nope. You can still go to the recovery partition and reflash a different kernel. Or you can boot to the bootloader and use fastboot to flash a new kernel. If you were bricked you would never be able to use your device again.
