[Q] android 2.2 to 4.0 upgrading - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I'm new to galaxy tab(used htc one v before). i have some questions about flashing roms.
I have a GSM galaxy tab with stock 2.2 android rooted(using z4root) and i checked my bootloader with chainfire's app(SGT bootloader or something like that) and i did't need to patch the bootloader.
which one do you recommend? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385153 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613842
which one supports usb host mode?
how can i connect a usb device to the tab?(a picture would be better.)
which is more stable?
Do i have to update android 2.2 to 2.3.3? if yes , please upload the files.
Can i install the rom using CWM recovery? if yes , how can flash CWMR?
Thanks.

Follow the link in my signature.
That is overcome method.
It will bring you to clean gingerbread Rom first, then it will install cwm .
From there you can install either Rom.
Usb host mode is not practical. You need to supply power to the usb from external source.

Yes, that is the way.
Although it is not overcome ROM, just overcome kernel via Odin.

Best ROM/Kernel

Hello Galaxy S Community, I have just purchased a Galaxy S and its coming with android 2.1 stock. I wanna know, whats the fastest and most stable rom for the Galaxy S and whats the fastest and most stable kernel for the Galaxy S?
Edit: I just updated it to 2.3.3 JVN Via Samsung Kies but I am no noob with odin, i just wanted to update via kies .
For stock rom the best kernel is the Sempahore kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908
Form CM7/MIUI you can you the glitch kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041532
There are most of kernels, but for stock rom the semaphore kernel is better

I definately dont wanna stay on stock touchwiz cause i dont like the interface. What do you think about the 4.0.4 roms? Does all the hardware work or is it in alpha/beta? What about ICS Kernels? Should i flash ICS or flash a Gingerbread rom (CM7, etc)? Sorry about all the questions but there are so many roms/kernels that I just have no clue which one to use.
You could try latest CM9 nightly with Semaphore 1.2.2 or latest mnics or Devil kernel.
After 3 or 4 circle battery charges I'd think it will offer to you good performance and good battery life, but I'm supposing it.
Try them and after that tell us about
I hope it helps you!
I m using ics333 no bugs, good ram management, good battery life my first rom after buying galaxy S

Flash the ROM with.pit, let it reboot then boot back to download, flash the root kernel, let it reboot and you are on rooted ROM, copy nightly, base, essentials and gapps to sd card, then follow instructions for flashing sequence, after, if you want semaphore download and flash that, make sure you use the s version as slim has the large ram patch

[Q] Please help for CWM.

I had a stock Gingerbread running on my P1000 and then, after following instructions from threads here and there,I installed a custom rom of CM 9.0.0 RC1 successfully.
During my installation,I flashed the kernel with odin 1.7 to install CWM on my tab.
Now,I want to use Pandroid Android ROM for jellybean in my tab.
My question is do I need to install CWM with odin again to install a new rom?
I did create a backup of my current ROM but i am unsure whether I need to install CWM with odin to proceed the installation of the Pandroid ROM.
Thanks in advance
No, from cm9 just boot to your current cwm and flash the new Rom.

^^ Is a good place to start, I would say the easiest way would be to download philz kernel for your version (LRB) and flash it through the stock recovery, this will give you root and CWM and from there on the limits are endless.
or you can use philz ODIN version or even HydraCore ODIN version and flash them using ODIN (obviously ) but this will give you yellow triangle (easily removed with triangle away app)
Flash philz kernel, then use pc odin or mobile odin to flash your custom rom.
Anyway you can use the search functions to get more in deep information.

-Download This
http://www.mediafire.com/?kesmwbjbnux4i1p
and copy to ext SD card
-reboot to recovery
-select install/update zip from ext SD
-choose zip (file you have copied)
-Flash
done
This s short procedure but though i recommend to read above said thread to get detail information.
Hey bro. I dont have ext sd card. Can i use it with my usb storage?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
no.. stock recovery only flashes from external storage.. use the exynos exploit app by chainfire to root .. then use mobile odin to install Philz or speedmod or hydracore.. then you are set to flash custom roms
its the 0.Root with apk procedure in the thread mentioned by Dr ketan
This is much harder than my old infuse 4g. M so confuse... Now u mean i need to root using exynos blabla then install file(mediafire link above) using odin? I dont have credit card for mobile odin, but i have pc odin.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
not the above link but you need to use tar.md5 file version of kernel.. as mobile odin wont recognize that,,
here link to MO by its Dev
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
You can use pc odin but that will increase the counter and cause yellow triangle at boot
Rooted using exynos already. Installing MO and mobileODIN flashkernel N7000 already. Then what?

?
What kernel did you flash using mo?
OP said if i install MO lite i need to install flashkernel N7000 v3.0.apk i didnt flash anything yet
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
First install the mo kernel and then open mo again. Then flash the custom kernel of your choice.
Can u give me kernel link for my device?

if u already have a rooted and philz installed...just download the custom RoM of ur choice in the Development sector and use the recovery to flash it.
and if u want stock 4.0.4 ..use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997

[Q] [Question] How to Flash Stock ROM without ODIN

Hi,
I have the following problem:
I have a S5830L which I've downloaded the Samsung Unbranded Stock ROM GB 2.3.6 for this phone.
The problem is that when I put it on Download mode ODIN detects it BUT when I click on start it stops on "SetupConnection" and after 10 min it shows fail.
The phone is running fine, but It has the carriers ROM and with version 2.3.4, with CWM
How can I flash it via ODIN or another method?
I cannot figure out...
Thanks!
There's a thing called mobile Odin. Not sure if it works for your device but you can use the search option here to find out more...

Go to Here to read and find your answers. If you're still stuck, then ask again. Even though there a few custom roms that can be flashed through Odin, I suggest you avoid using it unless you want to flash stock firmwares.

Hello. Firstly, I'm sorry to say that I don't have much experience as mine came directly from ICS. I can suggest a long roundabout way which is to update your android vers. from GB To JB through Odin procedure first, then just flash philz safe kernel. and then flash any roms u want. Or if you just want stock JB, then u can download stock JB firmware n flash it through odin.
Edit : Go Here And watch the video and read. The link for the kernel provided includes CWM. After Installing CWM, you can directly flash philz safe kernel, reboot to recovery, do a clean wipe and formats (Follow OP of the rom you want to install)
