[Q] How to force apps to run in tablet mode? - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have noticed that some of my apps run in in “phone mode". To be specific I'm talking about Mint.com and Chrom apps. Some apps, which I used before on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7 inch are not available in Google Play for KFHD (for example XDA HD premium).
Does anyone know how to run those apps in the tablet mode?
Is this problem related to the device DPI (which is 160 for SGT2 7.0 and 240 for Kindle)?
Does anyone try to reduce Kindle's DPI to lower value?

Not sure if there are specific apps i use on my Galaxy tab that i wouldnt use on my Galaxy S2 but these are some essentials i use
Titanium backup for backups
Some Officepack for filereading
ES File explorer for copying files and connecting to FTP/SMB
Chrome for awesome web-browsing
Podkicker för Podcasts
Tapatalk for the forums
G-tasks for tasks etc
Spotify for musik
Instagram (is better in a tablet, bigger images )
Tablet SMS, (and Desksms on the phone) for smsmanaging on the tablet.
Swiftkey 3 tablet keyboard
and ofc "speed test" since its an LTE tablet
Thanks, I will check those out.
I have SwiftKey installed already
Now using Nova Launcher Prime
Email is kaiten (fork/offshoot of K9)
Have to see what else to play with
Given that I've now seen the infamous camera video bug (permanent zoom) on ICS with my own eyes...is this a driver issue or would a third-party camera app bypass the problem?

KFHD8.9 - Your device isn't compatible with this version

Got rooted 8.9 and Google play.
But when I try to install apps like Fidelity, Trulia, and many others from Google Play, It shows "Your device isn't compatible with this version" instead of install button. Is there any solution for this? Is this because of the not-so-popular 8.9" size and resolution?
I have the same problem with the HD 7"
Mostly it happens because of resolution. Try side loading instead.

Making the Kindle Fire more at home

Now I know that I don't own a Kindle Fire HD, but I know someone who does, and I have to do everything techy like add media to it. But there has been a problem. The person doesn't use it because this person has become so accustomed to the iPod Touch and kind of expected the same type of UI on a Kindle Fire HD and they don't know how to navigate it.
Is there any way I can make the Kindle Fire HD feel more at home to this person?
Is there any launchers that could help and the Google Play Store would be a better alternative to that Amazon appstore.

There's a number of things you can do to it. You can root it and install a wealth of different launchers, a hybrid OS (Kinology), 2 beta versions of cm10.1. There are threads available for each of these options.

Install the Walkman Media Player instead of stock Apollo
Install XMBC for multimedia Entertainment
Install Dolphin Browser, Uninstall or Freeze Stock to remove it entirely

[Q] Resolution in Chrome

Hi, whatismyscreenresolution.com says I have only 1280x800 resolution on a TF701T. 'wm size' says 2560x1600.
Does any of you know how to get device resolution in Chrome? Is it even possible?
One other thread here (about nexus and chrome) mentions pixelratio; this can be tweaked in Firefox, but I'd like to have more system-wide solution or at least one that works in Chrome too.
I don't think it's possible. Try using another browser

Fire HD 8 (8th Gen) - Make Chrome the Default Browser

I successfully selected Chrome as the default browser on my new Fire HD 8 (8th Gen) running Fire OS 6.3.0.1.
I used the following posts to get the Play Store loaded (my thanks to the OPs and contributors):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/installing-google-framework-playstore-t3216122
https://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/help/fire-os-6-3-x-play-store-fire-hd-8-t3850363
1. Use adb to install Google Play Store
2. On your Fire HD 8 (8th Gen) download the Chrome Browser from the Play Store, it should automatically install
3. go to Settings (pull down the shade and click on the gear icon)
- Apps & Notifications
- Default Applications
- Browser app
4. Click on Browser App and you should see Silk and Chrome as available browsers
5. Select the radio button next to Chrome - if it works you'll see Chrome listed as the Browser app
Just to be sure: I restarted the Fire HD to confirm the browser change survived. It did and I've been able to download, install and run even finicky apps such as SmartThings Classic.
That's a treat. And you don't see that in any other fire OS versions. Unfortunately I don't think it can be ported to anything less than that os version. It will likely disappear in a future update.
Can you set the Chrome as a default from chooser. Just tap ALWAYS to set.

On the HD 10 Amazon's activity resolver is tied into managed profiles. Inside the system UI there are a couple of intents that launch when you open an application. Two of those intents launch applications to the managed profile. You can disable them with various activity disablers but it just comes back after a certain amount of time. Since I have removed the permission for managed profiles on the device and removed parental controls and device owner the intent no longer launches to the manage profiles and when you click on always at actually means always. I'm not sure if the same applies the HD 8 but here's what I did for the HD 10 https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/general/root-remove-parental-control-t3932831
