I cant seem to find anyone else with this problem. I just washed my att samsung captivate. I let it dry out for a bit and started it up. It worked fine for quite a while then the touch screen stopped responding so i removed the battery.
When i turned it back on, it remained at the white screen with blue AT&T World phone until i removed the battery again. It continues to do this currently.
I have "reflashed" the firmware (atleast i think i have) back to its stock through the odin3 installer program. I'm not sure how important that is but the phone seems to communicate with the computer through usb.
I cannot do a hard reset kind of thing as holding the volume down and power button at the same time will not take me any further than the white w/blue text screen.
have i fried my phone? is there something i can do to get it to jump past the white and blue text screen?
thanks for any help.
Once a phone is wet u need to get a new one its never gonna work again.

I hope this is a joke. Washed?? Dried?? You should never use any kind of liquid around electronics unless you are water cooling your gamer pc.

washing technique
I threw the phone in with a load of bed sheets.
Of course this wasn't done on purpose. It didn't get fully "washed" per se but only a bit wet. I'm not proud that I did this but what's done is done.
Lets pretend it had never been wet, is there anything that could cause it to stick at the att screen?
I was able to run the odin3 flash program without a hitch. Seems like the phone still is somehow able to work but just not get past the normal boot of the white w/blue text att screen. Any ideas???
If there are no possible fixes or all that's left are comments regarding my ignorance-- how would att know it has been wet. I know my ipod touch sat out in the rain for a bit and apple replaced it no questions asked since the earphone port thing showed no discoloration.
In the battery compartment there is a white square and on the battery another white square. are those the pieces that change color when wet? litmus paper i think? If so they are still white. Do these identify a "wet" phone?
The phone looks the same as it always has, no water behind the screen/camera lense or anything. I had a rubber case on it but the usb door was open.
How's my 1 year mysteriously broken phone warranty looking?
Those white parts would look red if wet ,is it red? I have tmobile for ,me if those parts are red I have to deal with my insurance, do u have insurance? Either then that u got to see wat att can do for u sorry I tried...

you can't pretend the phone was never wet.
If you get a phone wet - you need to pull the battery and put the phone in a bag of rice to dry it out (maybe for 2 days). Since you have turned it on many times, and tried to flash it, you have created all kinds of short circuits across the circuit boards.
At this point your only recourse would be to strip the phone down and look for corrosion on the circuit boards and try to clean it, but most likely you have fried something.
Only AT&T can tell you what they will do when they inspect it.
My first color screen phone. A sony ericson. Got washed and dried, twice. It still worked. Too bad they don't make phones like they used to. But then again that phone was no where near as bad ass as this.

Are you sure you flashed it correctly? If you are at the ATT screen then you should be able to connect via adb and do an adb reboot download. Have odin one click running first. If it makes it to download mode click start. It should do everything it needs and reboot on its own in the OS.
If that fails you might have fried something.

Try the rice
I dropped mine in the dog's water bowl on Thanksgiving. I retrieved it quickly and dried it out. It worked but had a few issues with force closing and auto-rotate not working. I removed the battery and SIM card and placed it in rice for 24 hours. It has worked fine since.
Good luck.
Recovery mode from Downloading mode

I can get the odin one click to run and complete its task. the phone will then reboot and stick at the att world phone screen. Is it at all possible to get from the downloading screen to the recovery screen? I can do the two volume buttons and connect usb to get to downloading but i cannot get to the recovery screen.
i've looked around and tried to figure out how to do adb stuff but i'm not understanding. is adb something i can do while the phone is in the downloading mode?
thanks
You can use adb while at the att screen but not download. Go to Dev section and check my thread Read Before Flashing, therre is some good adb info in it. You should be able adb reboot recovery.

put it in rice for a couple days, than try starting it. if not try replacing the water indicators and go back to att warranty center and say it wont turn on or something. i did that once with a blackberry bold and they replaced it.
I have my buddy's captivate here, he gave it to me as he was afraid he had bricked it. I offered to help. (funny thing is he works for ATT lol)
He had used a one click root method (so he says), and I think he might have accidentally deleted parts of touchwiz with root explorer.
I want to, at the least, odin the phone back to stock.
Issues I am having:
The phone is completely unusable as Twlauncher is stuck in a force close loop. I would just put the phone in usb debugging and use adb reboot download but I can't get to the settings menu. The only thing that I can use is the notifications pull down menu.
None of the 3 button combo's to boot into recovery/download work. The phone's batch number is 1101 and I had read that some of them lack the 3 button feature.
I am open to the option of using a jig to get it into download mode. I would like to exhaust all other options first however. I would also like to talk to someone who has experience making and using a jig.
Any help you guys can give would be fantastic. :
Thanks
I've made two jigs.
I've done the I-Go one and the one in my sig. If you want a one day thing, I'd go with the I-go one
if you have more time, just get the 8 dollar premade jig off ebay i think.
your post says the guy you got the resistor from is no longer selling them? :/
And can you give me a little more info on the I-go jig?
I honestly think that each person should make a jig or buy one because accidents happen
http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_tr...&_nkw=captivate+jig&_sacat=See-All-Categories
if you want to make one. the I-GO jig is on the first post of the link in my sig.
you basically tear apart the connector, find slots 4 and 5, and wire the resistors in series to hit 300/301k resistance.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9238587&postcount=1
when i did mine they didnt have the 100k resistors so I used five 47watt resistors and three 22watt resistors and it worked. just make sure you're connecting the right wires on the I-GO tip. refer to the pictures and you should be fine. I had to use 2 I-GO tips because i wasnt careful with my first one and destroyed it.
EDIT:
can u long press the menu button to bring up search? or bring up the search menu by pressing the search button? then type in settings? (so you can access usb debugging)
If i pull the batt out put it back in hold both volumes in while inserting the usb I get dl mode. Wont work for you?

My pc randomly stopped working when I wasn't here. Apparently, according to my mother, it just went 'poof' and now it just restarts when its on the windows XP splash screen, it wont even go into safe mode. I've tried pressing f8 and selecting 'disable automatic restart on failure' and I dont even get a BSoD :/ I even took it completely apart and gave it a clean and put it back together, nothing :/ any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Reformat.
Also what kind of poof was it? Was there smoke involved?
"poof," on it's own, when you weren't there?"
It's a conspiracy.
The thing is, I really dont want to lose anything, I have lots of emotionally valuable stuff on there :/ there was no smoke, nothing is fried either, I completely disassembled it and it all looks tickety boo, I'm guessing poof is just my mothers way of saying it instantly went off

This will teach you to keep backups. Also take out the hard drive, connect it to a different PC and copy over your files, then reformat.
Indeed :/ Well I've blamed my father, he moved the pc, it was working when he moved it, and after, for a few hours, then this. So he's agreed to buying me a new one, ill buy an external copy over the files using the new pc, and keep the original hard drives as back ups, I just wanted to know if there was any other solutions, I feared a reformat from the start D:

It's surely a windows problem if it's not overheating or stuff like that
Edit:ups no cd then you can try putting windows on a usb-stick

You dont even need to buy a disk. You can download it (which is perfectly legal) and if you have the sticker on the bottom of the lappy with the windows serial number use those numbers.
I have my CD drive, I can unplug a HDD, I have 3, I can put the CD drive back in and download a new XP disc, I have my serial numbers

It could be a few things. A corrupt boot file, a failing hard drive, or something as simple as resetting the bios. Start with the easiest fix, which would be to reset your bios. To reset the bios, unplug the computer, open the case, and remove the system battery. (the battery is the size of a quater). After that is done, press and hold the power button for 2 minutes (this will discharge the IC's). After that is done, replace the battery, close the case, plug the computer in, and press the power button. If the computer boots up normally, you should be all set.
If this doesn't fix the problem, chances are, the hard drive failed. Depending on which make and version bios you have, you can test the hard drive using the built in hard drive test utility. To enter the bios, you can tap the delete key. Some computers use the F2 key. When you turn on the computer, look at the bottom of your screen and it should tell you which key to press. Once in the bios, using the left and right arrow keys, look for "tools" and select that using the "enter" key. Look for "hard drive test". If you don't see that option, your bios doesn't support it.
When you tried turning the computer on, did you hear beeping? Beeps have different codes, which indicate hardware failure. They could be long beeps, short beeps, etc. I'll do my best to help you.

The OP has a lappy. Not all laptops have removable cmos batteries. Also he gets the windows loading screen, so it less likely its an HD issue and more likely just a system issue. Also to reset cmos just pop the battery out for 30 seconds. That also helps remove static, which can cause problems.

That is completely false, on every level.. A failing hard drive won't prevent the bootscreen from loading, that's the job of the bios. And a failing hard drive can get to several different stages in the boot process prior to looping. As I stated in my original post, it could be several things, INCLUDING a corrupt boot file. And you are incorrect about some laptops not having batteries. All computers, be it desktops or laptops have batteries. The cmos chip requires a battery to store the settings in bios. Only really old laptops have non removeable batteries. But we're talking about laptops that are far more than 10 years old. Let's keep this thread on topic. If you have additiinal support to offer, please do. Otherwise, let's keep all off topic conversation of his thread.

Well I guess I won't argue with you since I fix computer every day and have seen new laptops with permanent cmos batteries and a place where you can short the board to clear the cmos. But what do I know.

Not going to hijack this member's thread with an ego fueled debate. I've been working on computers since the Apple IIe. I'm offering him basic solutions based on his level of experience. If basic troubleshooting methods don't remedy his problem, the appropriate suggestion is to take it to a shop. I don't think it's a good idea to start showing an inexperienced end user how to start messing with the jumpers. That could turn a simple problem into a very expensive lesson. Let's keep this thread clean.

Seeing as how nobody mentioned it, the OP should try booting with the bare minimum of hardware connected. Disconnect your optical drive, any HDD that isn't the primary drive, any RAM apart from one DIMM, (if you have two swap them out and try again), remove, sound/graphics cards, network cards...anything you don't need to boot, pull CMOS battery and replace. Then try to boot, and see how you get on.
That's the first thing that should have been done.
(BTW i'm not seeing anything here that suggests the PC in question is a laptop? Do many laptops have 3 HDD's as the OP mentioned he did?)
BTW, you don't have to worry about losing your files. You can buy an external hard drive enclosure kit and use your hard drive as an external usb drive.

Hello guys, I have in my hands a Xiaomi Mi A2 with the famous bootloop, and the bootloader locked.
The phone does not enter in recovery mode, only enter in fastboot mode, and if you force with the two test pin in the motherboard in EDL mode.
I tried and tried to flash the last official rom in the phone, the "jasmine_global_images_V10.0.2.0.PDIMIFJ_20181206.0000.00_9.0_02b8deeb6d"
The first error I had during the flashing in MIflash was the "mismatching image and device"..., I modify the SH, Bat files with the notepad, erasing some lines to avoid this problem.
And after put the phone in EDL mode, (I think is in EDL mode, because the flashing starts... but the screen of the phone is not in black... is with the fastboot logo or the androidone logo...)
I have this error, the "flash bluetooth a error" and the process stop....
I also tried in CMD console, to unlock the bootloader, and all the times said that FAIL, because the device is locked.... I tried too with some bat archives I found in youtube videos, but never appears the menu in the phone for unlock the bootloader...
The same thing occurs when I tried to install the TWRP recovery, the flashing FAIL, because the device is locked...
I tried to flash by CMD and fastboot one by one images, putting the commands...but again, impossible the device is locked....
I tried the commands fastboot flashing unlock...... ....... remote: flashing unlock is not allowed
another one... fastboot oem edl.... the device is still locked....
etc....
I dont know what to do more.... any suggestion please¿?
And other doubt the model that appear in the back of the phone is M1804D2SG, It is the jasmine model right¿? was the android pure installed in the phone...
I dont think that is a wayne construction right?
thanks guys
Its not in EDL mode
The only way to put it in EDL is to open it up so your screen should be black as it wont even be connected to the phone. (it is possible to have it connected in edl but pointless and would be in the way.)
To open the phone you will need a pentalobe small screwdriver, also you will need to cut glue around the edges of the phone, so I would recommend a suction cup plus some plastic spanners.
Onec its open you need to take the 3 screws out from the top of the battery to remove the metal hinge holding the screen cable. Then you can remove the screen so it wont be in your way, you need to disconnect the battery as well and an other cable next to it because the EDL points ar underneath.
Now for the tricky part, you need your pc on and the usb cable ready, pluged in to your pc. you need to short the two points with something metal eg. tweezers and while the two pint is connected you need to enter the usb cable.
Its tricky but if you done it right it will show up with a different name in MiFlash and you will be able to flash.
Let me nkow if you have any other question I done this yesterday. To find the points just google around for a picture or a video.
