Hi would like to know what the actual difference between the T andTX are.
I know that the TX is slightly thinner and slightly different dimensions and button positions, but my understanding is that everythingelse is exactly thie same.
If that is the case then why is there a difference in benchmark scores (i.e. quadrant). Trying the decide which to buy here and having some problems. Having read the other threads, it seems the Ion has a better display but runs an S3 processor, otherwise they are very similar device also.
Please confirm, thx.

hey all
as the title says lets see which is better Xperia Z or S4 iam not a fanboy but here i will say why iam confused
1-processor: i asked ppl who said that octa=quad in performance only better in battery life as its 2 quad processor (so almost the same)
2-Screen:Super Amoled Vs TFT idk which better actually both appeal to me one is Saturated and the other is natural...we cant forget about bravia engine 2 in Z
3-Camera: Ofcourse all samples say that S4 is better here but when i asked developers they said its only because of OVER COMPRESSION is xperia z which could be fixed on the next update is that true?(as S4 has camera features i see that Xperia Z has HDR Video....so software vs hardware feature.....i think software can be added but hardware cant)
4-sound: No Doubt that S4 is much louder in outer speaker but does it rly matter? for me if i want to listen 2 music i will use headphones which r much better in xperia z in quality
5-Duribility :why shall i talk about this? it already goes for xperia z
6-BATTERY:well....2600 vs 2330.....but 2600 with much sensors and amoled display(which i heard that it uses more energy that TFT but not sure) and 2330 with stamina mode that can be great.........another confusion here

Firstly, I think that a discussion such as this belongs in a general forum and not one for any device that we are supposed to be discussing. That being said:
1. It would seem that they probably can't get the more powerful quad to play ball in terms of power saving so they are going to have the phone effectively use a core from yesteryear most of the time (if I read things correctly).
2. TFT in the context of this point is a nothing term, it is simply the switching mechanism for the display elements and is probably used in Super Amoled too, the comparison is Super Amoled vs LCD, and if they have a shiny
top layer and you hold them at an angle so that you get strong reflections then they are equally useless.
3. In this day and age if the camera hardware were at fault for the bad pictures then the manufacturer would have serious egg on their face and Sony would surely have spotted the problem during component selection
and chosen differently, all signs point to software, the problem looks like severe compression artifacting from what I have seen.
4. The speaker on the XZ really should have been placed in the lanyard hole to avoid getting totally obscured so easily,
it seems to be loud enough to me but then I don't have to hear it from across a crowded, noisy room like some seem to. Also anyone expecting miracles out of such a pokey little thing really need a dose of reality.
5. Which feels more durable, a phone I have or one that hasn't even been released? an odd thing to be trying to judge.
6. The battery isn't fantastic on the XZ, and is probably a driving factor behind screen type choice (needing to eke out as much screen time as possible with such a thin phone) rather than as some seem to think Sony being cheap
or not knowing how to build a "top tier" phone. Comparison with the S4? The S4 and the discussions of it pre-release are very much alike, they are both nothing but hot air.
1. Samsung's Octa Core is a marketing trick. It's really just a quad-core CPU with 4 "helper cores" like in Tegra SoC. It's not really that useful and doesn't increase performance THAT much. Entropy explained it very clearly in XZ vs others thread. Look at how Tegra is performing - some devs call helper cores "meh" while many of them call them basically useless performancewise.
2. Amoled has better colours, better angles, better blacks. It has burn-in issues though. Both displays have their good and bas sides, there's no definite winner in my opinion.
3. No idea...
4. Obviously. Waterproofing took away some of the volume, but it's enough for ringtone - and people who use their phone to listen to music in public, via the loudspeaker, should be banished from ever going out from their homes.
5. Sorry but there's just no discussion here.
6. Battery life might be a bit better on S4. Amoled does take more energy if you're viewing light images. If you're viewing dark/black images, like the UI, it takes less power. Compared to S2 and S3, battery life on Z will be basically the same as S4.

What About More OpiNioNs?
Hi, i think this thread will be kinda annoying cause i have many things i need to know if possible.
1. Is there any chance to find out, if they will use the new gen Amoled screens, or the old ones like on the moto X? (S4/Note 3 terrible!)
http://i.imgur.com/a8GpuZd.jpg
2. They say its an IMX 214 sensor, this is better then the one on the G2 , and equal to G3 if i'm not mistaken, so knowing now devs will have access to the camera, and the mods will make this camera flawless, because of the much higher ISP compared to the S800 G2 lets say (combined with mods ofc if stock camera blows) ? i think hardware being amazing, the mods will make this camera alot better is this correct or i'm missing something?
3. Does the gpu, make S805 phones really faster? i mean i know it should push resolution easier, but other then that, does Android as a OS, benefit much from the gpu acceleration? maybe L will have bigger benefits?
4. Would it be possible (with mods/ or even stock sofware) to alter> lower the amps from turbo charging, maybe even turn this feature off? i do not want my phone to be charged at 2A, this will degrade battery life much faster.
5. What do you guys think, about the blue vs white versions, i heard in the past there was not only the color difference, but some other changes in the designs of black vs white Nexus 5, can anyone tell me what was the difference cause i cant recall?
6. Where there some display calibration tool for, S4/Note 4 or even newer models to decease the saturation and make the screen look more balanced/realistic/better? i'm very sensitive to this, and i don't really like Amoleds, so i'm looking for a solution, or at least make it a bit better so i can live with it.
7. When will this phone be available for orders (playstore in EU) i'm not sure what is the date on this.
8. Is it true that Motorola has amazing recpetion/call quality? or this is tight up to the chip it self, (S805 same for all phones who use this chip) would using bad signal LTE networks still drain the battery like mad similar like on S800, or the improvements on the S805 will make this issue go away?
Thanks and sorry for many questions!
Anyone?

1. We can't know until the phone has been reviewed.
2. It's one of the best Sony sensors available and it's capable of taking great shots. It all depends on how Google decides to implement the camera software. If they handle it perfectly it'll be able to take some of the most amazing photo's of any android device.
3. It might not make it faster swiping your home screen. But it prevents actual stutters that you might have gotten with a slower SOC. Not to mention it'll handle task faster which means it'll lower it's frequency, which again results in better battery life.
4. Possible. It's been done before on previous Nexus models.
5. We can't actually know what the difference is on the Nexus 6 until it's been reviewed. The Nexus 5 had a different ear piece color matching it's back cover. The white and black version also had a different rim with the black one being matte like the back cover, and the white one being glossy black. The white cover also felt different. More plasticy rather than matte.
6. There could or could not be a way to calibrate the screen. It was possible on the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 5.
7. Has not been announced. But it will most likely vary from country to country.
8. Motorola uses some of the best radios in their phone. It's highly likely that they'll use these in the Nexus 6. From my understanding the Snapdragon 805 doesn't have an incorporated radio so a separate one is required. No need to worry about this, Motorola has got you covered. Also not to forget, the metal frame also boosts reception so it'll be one of the best phones when it comes to that.
Аwesome, thanks alot!
I'm looking for a phone for my wife; camera and battery are what she states are most important, but general performance she will care about.
Barring the obvious screen size, resolution, and PPI differences between the Z2 and Z3C, the specs seem quite similar. Was wondering what "real world" performance differences people experience, if any.
Anything that should push me one way or the other? I'm leaning Z3C mainly because its newer.

I had the chance to compare my Z3C against the Z2 this Christmas. The Z2 is larger and the screen is better (FHD). In terms f performance there was none differences, since they almost use the same chipset and amount of RAM. Thanks to it's larger chassis, the Z2 sounded more clear, but as same loud as the Z3C. Camera performance = same. It's really about the device size (that's why I opted for the Z3C).
definitly z2. Its cheaper
you can get it for $431 with a student discount at the sonystyle.com or $399 at expansys
Hi guys. Just lost my 2-year old Xperia ZL. I loved that phone even though it gets overshadowed by its twin, the Z. Now I'm looking for a good upgrade, hence the title. I've read comparisons and reviews and both phones seem to be on equal footing, regardless of the size. Would you guys recommend the Z3C or the Z2? And additional question: Are the after-sales products(cases, screen protectors, accesories) accessible? With the ZL, I had to resort to international sites just to get a hold of the cases. No accessories are sold here in the Philippines. Anyway, thank you for your time. I'm hoping to be part of the Z3C/Z2 family

They're both great phones, same fast Snapdragon 801 chipset, both will be updated to at least Android 5.1. The Z2 has a larger screen if you would prefer that, but unlike the Z3C, it has no stereo front-facing speakers and the top and bottom bezels on the Z2 are very large.

Thanks for the input bro. I'm really leaning towards the Z3C now. That white version is a plus. Would you recommend the white color?
Other than size, they're pretty much the same,Z2 also have stereo speakers, and a better screen i believe. There is minors improvements on Z3C like Hi-res Audio,or higher ISO for camera and slight faster CPU,but, like i said, really minor, not a deal breaker. In the end,i think you should consider more the size of Z2,its a lot bigger than Z3C,if thats ok for you,go for it
.
hi,
I ordered a new Z3+ to replace my Xperia TX. The recent issues about slow speeds compared to the Z3 and the overheating has me worried that the Z3+ is not equal in quality to the Z3. Should I still get the phone ?
The S810 has a known heating problem, with the newer revision in the One Plus Two, rev 2.1 offers slightly tuned performance and improved temps. While I don't know if you should get this phone I would say throttle is a given with S810 chips in any phone.
For such a chip to be cooled you need better thermal padding, and definitely a larger chassis to dissipate heat...neither can be achieved in super slim phones, but a tablet could.

I had 6 back to back antutu runs. First score was 52K & last three were 46K. I didn't see any abrupt drop in performance. The phone didn't overheat as well. The only area that gets 'warm' (not 'hot') is the bottom part directly underneath the google search bar (if you place it at the top of the screen right under the navigation drawer). That part never gets touched by my fingers in portrait mode & landscape mode. Also don't forget to get the firmware update that came out yesterday.

I would steer clear of this phone myself, maybe wait for the Z5??

Hm? Much lower than a Tegra K1, very close to the S808, and too far from the Exynos. If that's the score Sony might've throttled it aggressively with that update, since S810 usually scores 60K+. Of course, you should use a reliable benchmark like Geekbench 3 instead.
Also CPU Z can show you whether it was under clocked or not.
Sent from my XT1528
Thanks for the replies ! I guess the heating and speed issue is the same thing. Hopefully the software update will reduce the heat and at least keep the speed equal to the Z3. I think I will still get the Z3+, my TX is too slow and only 16b internal storage
Geekbench 3 is good for cross-platform benchmarking. It's pointless to use it to compare android phones based on identical a57/a53 arch. So Antutu, GB 3 along with CPU-Z (what a buggy mess, Z3+ is clocked at 1.96/1.56 GHz by the way) are garbage and I personally don't care about the scores. Also M9 has a 'high performance' mode. Sony doesn't have it. M9 should score higher on benchmarks, not in real life though.
I posted those scores to answer OP's question - Does it 'overheat' ? No, It doesn't. CPU scores from any back to back benchmark runs would have dropped sharply if there was any overheating.
It's not the same question as - Does it throttle? Next question - 'How much throttling is there?' That's why I gave a range 52-46K. So maximum drop you'd get is around 10% That's very comparable to any other device in the market.
