How to Unlock the Carrier on SGH-T849? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I Have a T-Mobile Galaxy Tab (SGH-T849).
and i Need to flash an unlocked modem so i can use any carrier instead of T-Mobile
I had android 2.3.3 then i rooted the tab and installed cyanogen mod 9 (stable)
my carrier is Etisalat (Egypt)
so someone can help,please.
?
Mod Edit: Removed needless formatting

Flashing modem doesn't unlock carrier.
The lock info and imei numbers etc are in /efs
It is an encrypted filesystem. That no new rom replaces.

Im on stock rom froyo. Should i start at the "prepping the system" step? Thanks a lot for your help.
Well, this is my opinion, I am not sure what Overcome will say.
The prep is needed because there are some people who are on locked bootloader in froyo.
Also, once rooted you can do Titanium Backup.
That is why it says you need to be rooted first.
But:
- if you don't care about Titanium Backup, no need to root.
- if you have locked bootloader, you won't be able to continue. Unless you root, then unlock the bootloader.
So my suggestion, jump straight to the Odin flash for froyo.
Edit: I never have locked boot loader so I don't know the impact.
the guy on the other thread can't boot after flashing, and think maybe it is due to boot loader locked.
So I retract, best is to follow overcome to the letter if you are on froyo.
Im already rooted with z4 root. What should i do now? What step should i go to?
still from the top.
Froyo, right?
You need to check if your bootloader is locked.
If not locked, and you have all your apps backup,
then just get the GB-stock-safe package,
unzip it and flash using Odin.
will try that later once i'm free thanks
i followed all the steps and managed to run on overcome, but now i can't get any mobile network signal and still can't make calls. help meeee

Unlock phone, then flash new rom?

Hey guys, quick question. I have no experience with this.
Can I unlock my Captivate (Rogers, Canada) i.e. SIM unlock it to run on other carriers and then flash a new room like we do through XDA all the time? My question is will I lose the unlock i.e. if I flash a new rom after I have carrier unlocked my phone will the phone remain unlocked?
I think most unlock software requires the nv_data folder, is this changed if I flash roms - or even do a hard reset?
Thanks
Yes u can unlock it and flash Roms...

So now you have the free choice to choose your OS did you want stock OS? Do you want GB or ICS Stock? Or you want CM or MIUI there are so many guides here that tell you what you need to do just say what you want.
Besides wouldnt it be nicer to have a OS that not labeled on a Provider?
I would like ics on it

Well ICS stock rom OR CM?
You should Consider changing the Bootloader to the ICS Bootloader some bugs are resolved in this. and most new ROMĀ“s are build for the new one.
So CM, MIUI or Stock based?
Stock

Actually wouldn't I need fido OS on it if I can reuse my code to unlock it again or would it be unlocked still.

If you got branded fw I would be supriced if it's not locked.
If you flash other fw you'll have a change of csc (three letter country/carrier-code), which also requires a factory reset of the device, so you'll lose all data.
Thanks. I'll leave it for now....

[Q] GT-P1000N (Latin Model)

Hi everyone,
As i stated, I have the gt-p1000n running stock GB 2.3.3
All info is in attached screenshots
My tab has been bricked and resurrected.
My problem is, the network capabilities are gone.
Will not recognize sim, yet will reboot when removed or inserted
I have read previous threads and searched, but the N model is hard to find for.
As i found in other threads, I have tried flashing: JP3 Modem (Gingerbread) 2.3.3 for P1000N by HumerOS but still doesnt work.
Should I flash a different modem.bin?
Will it brick me again?
Any and all help appreciated
Please help........someone.......anyone???
People use the word brick lightly.
You can brick your tab if you flash a Rom made for another device.
Or if the flashing was interrupted when it was writing the bootloader.
There is no way you brick your tab by flashing different modem.
Just go ahead and flash as many modems as you like.

Will try, thanks!!
Ok So i think i know what the problem is. When I checked the IMEI using *#06# it showed a different number than the number on the back casing. I think they (repair shop) might have changed my IMEI after JTAG??
Also, EFS backup shows different IMEI (same as in *#06#) and Serial number than on unit.
Suggestions?
the IMEI you posted earlier looks legit.
Could they have changed the back cover of your unit or the motherboard?
Usually, flashing a stock ROM from Samsung using Odin will restore your IMEI.

I cant say for sure about the MB, but I doubt they would replace the MB for free. The back cover is mine. There are distinct markings on it that I confirm it.
Now I remember, I also had this problem. My IMEI was also changed after flashing a ROM and I lost my network service, I think it was a CM nightly as well. I remember just getting the next nightly and it was fixed.

Right now the Tab is stock Froyo with the exception of being rooted. No Custom recovery yet and no ROM. I'm trying to fix the issue at hand first (already solved one problem).

Yeah, what I'm saying is that maybe flashing a new ROM might solve it. I don't think you've got anything to lose now, right?
Ok so as the screenshot shows I have a new nightly Rom, updated and all, yet the IMEI is the same (not the correct one), and the S/N changed yet again to a different number.
Im lost
