Hey guys before I had 2.3 and I had used an SGS unlocker off the market store to extract my nv_data.bin, I then used the samsung tool unlock code generator, when I used this I remember it unlocking my phone. I'm now running a custom JB rom and my network isn't working at all and when I search for it, it says "error while searching for network" I tried using the same method as last time to do it, i deleted my old nv_data and its just erroring in the samsung unlock tool. It's not asking for an unlock code or anything either What can I do guys

type *#06# in your phone dialer for IMEI number of your phone, if it start with 000 or missing, read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1857054
to solve it IF this happens after you flashed CM 10
Solution:- Reason is you had Jumped from GB to JB (should be on ICS before JB), so now you need to
1) Download Root Explorer from Play Store and use it to
2) Search you internal SD card for sdcard/backup/efs
3) Copy nv_data.bin, nv_data.bin.md5 and nv.log paste them into /efs in your Phone memory
4) Reboot to get back your original IMEI
or
you can start from the beginning.. go back to GB 2.36 (use a JVU ROM + Root, upgrade to ICS CM 9 and than to CM10
Solution for i9000 on JB:-Try not to jump from Gingerbread to Jellybean, as all upgrades should be done progressively. meaning you need to be on a GB 2.3.6> than into ICS and finally into JB.
For others, like missing IMEI, NO service, NO network problems, scroll down to EFS problems and Solutions in link given earlier

I'm still a bit confused friend, I've gone to the sammyfirmware site and I'm downloading the offical 2.3.3 UGKG3 rom, can I just put that on my phone and flash the .zip? If not, where can I get those 3 files above you mentioned, or would it be easier to use this "rescue kit" sorry I'm unfamiliar with most of thing. I didn't think upgrading was going to cause this problem at all. Really appreciate the help. I was going to try Kies but when I plug my phone in the only option i have is to turn on the usb?

Hi all,
I bought a second hand SGS and it has 2.2 froyo
How can i put it back to normal 2.1 android please?
i dont want root or anything...
can any1 help? ill put a few quid in your paypal if you can take the time to guide me through it?
Well, you could always just goto settings and initiate a factory reset... You'll lose root and revert back to the stock eclair 2.1 ROM.
where is that option?
i found sd card and phone storage and
internal sd card format option
i notice another option in privacy that says factory data reset. but that looks like it might be just personal data reset not full reset thingy,
if what your saying works i will be very happy!

Think about this for a second....a factory reset is somehow magically going to pull stock 2.1 out of .....where exactly?
the OP is going to have to Odin back to stock....plenty of info here on how to do this....
what is Odin?
the search functions are down at the moment so i cant search the forums
Maybe you can help mate? please!
Its laggying badly this 2.2

Why else would it be called FACTORY reset ? It would be the firmware provided with the phone, which would be eclair as opposed to the froyo build he received on a rooted second hand phone.
The option is in settings-> privacy-> factory data reset
You can't get Froyo without flash to a froyo ' factory' firmware. In this case, A beta firmware. Whenever you flash to a new firmware, you lost your old firmware completely.

yeah i guessed it wouldnt be that simple.
guys can you give me a clue?
im thinking this: see if im anywhere near.
download odin
connect phone to pc
restart holding the volume down, power and home
flash with original files - im having trouble finding these
will my samsung be 2.1 and non rooted after that?
will i be able to re-root if i need to? ie to apply lagfix

1. Download odin,
2. Download the needed firmware files from Samsung firmwares,
3. Phone off. Vol down, menu, power
4. Add pit512/513 (can't remember which), pda, modem, csc in odin
5. Tick re-partition
6. Connect phone to pc
7. Click start and wait for your phone to restart
All done, This is just a quick and rough guide how to do it, there's a much better guide on this forum what to do and how
do you kno where the firmware files are exactly? i cant search the forums for the guide.. search function is down.
A quick look and you'll find 'forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596'
For firmwares, a quick Google 'samfirmware' you'll need to sign up to access the files in the firmware section That's if there not in the above link
the first one you must to do is download the firmware file through the internet,
then download the drives and odin and pit512 file,
and then install the drives ,then run the odin, select the re-partition,in pit, select the pit512,in pda, select the firmware which named with pda,in modem and csc is also select the firmware named with modem and csc,
shut down your phone then press vol- ,home ,power at the same time, you will see a android ,
connect your phone with the pc,
when the com is turn green ,press start.and wait..after you flash the firmware, you should format the sdcard and wipe your data..
thanks guys
i think ive sorted it, but still seem rooted somehow
is this the right firmware?
2.1-update1
basedband version I9000XXJM4
Kernel version
[email protected]#
Build number
ECLAIR.XWJM8
If thats all good! then thanks very much guys.. but root still looks iffy to me.
will this stop me from receiving updates from samsung? ie propper froyo when its out.
damn i just read that i think i should have used the 803pit and not the 512. is that right?

You can get the firmware here http://www.samfirmware.com/home.htm
Depending on what country you are in, there are diferent firmwares.
Download odin from that page aswell.
They also have a how to guide on how to flash with odin.
From my understanding you won't be getting Froyo OTA, you will be getting it via KIES. But with all the modding going on I doubt KIES will let you so you like everyone else here will have to get it installed via ODIN, no big deal at all . Just check back xda when froyo is in news for sgs

Will this also be applicable to me ? I have only rooted my phone. It's unrooted now... And I've not deviated from the stock firmware.
I advice you to check if the 3 Button Combo works on your Phone. If not, apply the 3 Button SBL Fix before messing with ROMs to help recover the device in case of a brick.
Hey All, sorry if its and easy problem or if its been posted heaps before i have been searching and tried everything to no avail so here i am putting it to all u xda members to help me with all your wisdom. See i have had my galaxy for a few months and thought hey time to play with the pre release of 2.3.3 before it was officially released well now im buggered lol i cant wipe, i cant factory reset i flash another firmware and it all goes fine it reverts back but all my apps and settings and accounts are still there and when i delete my apps and restart there all back again! i install new apps and they delete on restart... frustrating...i cant put any update.zip onto my internal as it deletes it straight away and installing from external SD dosent seem to work, i tried a few posts like this one as suggested by JJEgan else where to no avail either (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556) id love to be able to use my SGS again as i bought a windows phone 7 as a replacement and i dont like it lol SAVE MY ANDROID AND MY SANITY PLEASE!!!!!
Is it an international I9000? Or the I9000B? It seems to me as though your sdcard might be corrupt... Wipe your Dalvik cache. Did you try flashing a DBDATA containing firmware onto your phone, using ODIN? If not, flash XXJPU (Froyo) and see if that helps...

i assume you had strictly followed that guide flashed that package twice and still get bootloops? And you flashed a semaphore kernel and that did not solve it?
If that is the case , than flash a 2.3.6 bootloader as bootloader in Odin ( phone bootloader update ticked)
But before you do all this, power down phone, take out batter and press power button for a min before reinserting battery and testing again
this might help

It works for JB too, after finishing it, if you had problems with IMEI do this:
For others, like missing IMEI, NO service, NO network problems, scroll down to EFS problems and Solutions

When i finished the install, i rebooted. Now my phone is booting into CWM only and cannot pass that...
hello!! my sgs i9000 is currently rooted with GB rom (2.3.4. surface rom) and semaphore 1.5.
can i flash from internal SDcard straight to some JB rom ? (like hellybean or c-rom mix)
i dont want to use odin at all : it has never flashed my sgs successfully on the first try, it always need 3 or 4 attempts and i'd like to avoid that step as much as possible, cause im on old GB already.
so hellybean installation guide, for the example, says:
- make sure to have gingerbread bootloaders (<- this step should be done since im on a GB rom, correct me if im wrong)
- flash allinone.zip
- reboot recovery
- flash allinone.zip again
- flash gapps
i have a backup of EFS folder and i'll wipe everything, also should i revert filesystems to rfs before flashing, or will ext4 work too? maybe that point is not important because of partitions being changed (i dont know...).i know there are tons of installation guides but i cant browse everything. so if i just do it like that way will it be ok?? sounds too good to be true. what do you think?

It can be that u have 2 flash custom 2 or 3 times
Just like Donovan662 said, sorry I thought that you've read that in ROM's thread. Actually you need to do it from 2 to 4 times, depending on what ROM you are installing.

God you've made installing new ROM looks like walking on water.. , here are your answers:
1-You don't need Odin.
2-Yes if you have ClockWorkMod you can install new JB ROM.
3-You don't have to convert file system.
4-If you had problems with IMEI check quoted post in my first comment.

It seems I am screwed. I forgot to backup EFS folder and IMEI is now lost. Even worse, i do not remember with which ROM my phone was shipped. No idea how to go from here... Any advice?
@dimsoron
In my case I didn't back up anything, yet I found efs folder in sdcard/backup/efs, so check it first and see what you have, and about the ROM version, it doesn't matter, you can flash any stock ROM even if it's region doesn't match yours, but I'm not sure if that can resolve IMEI problem.

Wow. I found efs and efs-466 under backup folder. What is the difference?
And how can i restore from that?
Hmmm..I have no idea what's the difference between them, but if I can recall right you only need the efs file, and how you do that is mentioned in quoted post in my first comment.

I copied. Device complains that No SIM card. I recognized IMEI is fine now but my phone number is displayed as "unknown". What can the reason be?
Well I didn't go through this before, but I'm sure a lot of members here did and they'll tell you what to do as soon as they see your post, but don't worry since your problem is software related the solution would be relatively easy to apply, you can still flash stock ROM anytime with Odin, but make sure to stop KIES before you do it.

You mentioned in another thread that you already have GB 2.3.5 running on your phone. Why you're trying to flash GB with bootloaders again and again? You already have GB bootloaders! The only way to brick Captivate permanently is to mess the bootloaders. I did send you JB upgrade guide on PM, did you read it?

OK, make sure you still can put your phone to Download Mode. Make sure your PC has correct drivers for Captivate and actually sees the phone. Use original Samsung USB cable only, not a cheap replacement. Flash KK4 without bootloaders (or any other GB stock ROM), you already have GB bootloaders. Test your phone after flashing and If everything looks good, follow the steps in JB upgrade guide.

Honestly, I can't understand you. First you said you are running GB 2.3.5, then on PM you told me you are on Slim6, then you told me you are on GB 2.3.5 again, now seems like you are trying to reflash stock ROM for some reason, you are flashing GB bootloaders over GB bootloaders you already have, you are asking me if it's OK to flash galaxy s bootloaders... I don't understand what is happening and what you are trying to do.
I had to go back to stock a few times and the packages are good. The issue you have is most likely somewhere around drivers/connection. Fix this and you are good. Careful with heimdal flashing, drivers must be installed for the specific USB port you are using. And please stop flashing those bootloaders, you are going to brick permanently your Captivate sooner or later. Read this guide too http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350266, very useful information.
i was on 2.3.5 KJ3 without bootloader and i go to download mode only with Fastboot ADB
now i downloaded Heimdall OneClick KK4 and got the Firmware files from "Temp"
i compared the bootloader "boot.bin, Sbl.bin" with the files in galaxys-bootloader-JVB.tar.md5
it has the same size in bytes and same MD5Hash !! oOo
i was write to flash this bootloader ... will try and tell u the result
They got the same bootloaders in this guide .... i make this topic cuz i need this guide thank u

If you ever had GB running on your phone, you already have GB bootloaders. No need to flash bootloaders again and again.
