For starters allow me to say I am totally new to Android and it took me like a week to get everything on my phone working properly (Root, clockwork mod etc.) plus I am not very computer savvy so I dont even know what half of the stuff I did means so sorry If i am asking what seems like stupid questions and I thank you for your assistance.
My phone was going nutty for a while, resetting out of no where, ringing but no option to answer the phone etc. So what I did was reset to factory and was going to just deal with re installing all of my items. Well after obviously doing something I should not have, my phone is no longer functioning properly at all and is stuck in some sort of loop.
When i reboot into recovery mode (vol up+home+power) I get Hyperdroid RedPill Recovery mode, but no files to get the phone started on the phone or the external sd. (is there a zip that I can just put on my card to get the phone back to normal?)
There is nothing to restore or install present at the moment.
When i do vol down i just get this cycle of it seemingly trying to load the firmware I had before I screwed up my phone * photo
I have searched for my exact issue on here but have only seen bits and pieces so not wanting to go ahead with a suggestion and it not be applicable to my phone in its entirety so that is why I am asking here specifically. (been to countless unbrick threads but not sure what my situation is exactly)
Thank you for any help
Flash stock gb rom.
All instruction you can find from post#2 of thread linked to 1st line on my signature.
After successful install, wipe cache and data from recovery.
PS: don't flash ics rom, just gb rom post #2 on said thread is for gb rom only.

You can flash any stock rom

I recommend India KL3, though it's not must.

I think your on AbyssNote kernel that's why you have that hyperdroid red pill recovery... now if you can, try to see if you can download a stock GB ROM in ZIP format and and see if you can save it on your external sd card.. boot back to red pill recovery and see if you can flash the stock GB from there.

This is doing my head in
I get the red FAIL box and it said "can't open the serial (COM) port."
Is there any other way to do this, maybe on my macbook, i am doing it on my wifes pc but with no luck.
I just want my phone to work again
Never thought a reset would cause such chaos.
**In your instructions it reads "Choose continue on the phone, Now ID:COM box shud turn yellow (see Image)"
I do not get an option to do anything on the phone once i have done the power on,vol down.
I press vol up, then get into odin mode and thats it, i press start on Odin on the PC and then get a FAIL message (3rd time now)
Another day of my HTC TP2 is not something I look forward to tomorrow.
Thanks for any suggestions

Tab is running CWM Recovery and Gingerbread Overcome Rom beta 1. Has been running fine for 3/4 days. Yesterday the tab froze and rebooted twice. Tab was left on last night while on charge. This morning when I unplugged the tab it was off, so I switched it on but it is stuck in aboot loop. The Galaxy Tab Samsung screen displays but then just reboots.
I can get in Recovery and have performed a data wipe and cache wipe, made no difference.
I made a CW backup on Tuesday and checked afetr that it was on the sdcard, it was. However if I now try and do a restore from CW it claims there is no backup...
Is my tab dead? Is my internal memory dead?
I'm comlpetely lost now....
Can you get to the flash zip option in recovery? If you can try to reflash the ROM from the SD card. Have to tried starting over using Odin? Hope this helps. Good luck.
I can get to the flash zip but they are not there? This is whats making me think maybe there is an issue with the internal memory?? The tab has been freezing and rebooting at least once a day for the past 2 weeks or so?
Haven't tried the odin route yet, will give that a go tonight
If you wiped everything then yes, that will delete your internal memory.
Follow the Overcome guide to use Odin and restock to the GB safe rom, then go back to Overcome.

All youll need is:
Odin 1.7
P1_hidden.pit
GB-stocksafe.zip (i think thats what its called)
And the Obercome beta rom.
Hope it works out well for you.

this also happened to my tab (because i was playing around with my system files) i just reflashed the ROM and it was fixed, dont worry about it being bricked as long as you can still access CWM and download mode
hopefully you backed up
good luck! hope you get it fixed!
Think I could be in trouble. Followed the odin steps and got a big Red fail on Completing (Write) - Fail
Now whenever i turn it on all I have is a phone icon with a broken line going to a pc icon, cant even get into recovery!
Just flash dbdata. Don't worry, it's not bricked if you can still power it on and odin recognise it.

Try what again? I've tried switching off and on again several times? Do you mean try the odin steps again? If so I have twice and both times ended with the same Fail. I am really starting to think there is a serious issue with my internal memory...

I've had random reboots running a few different roms. It sucks and it does require a complete wipe. I end up going back to heimdall and reflashing all vzw images. Then I'm on a clean path to a fresh start.

Tab won't even switch on to alternative mode now other than when it's plugged into the wall socket power charger!?!?
Anyone able to offer an help? The tab will not boot unless it's plugged in charger, so when plugged into pc/laptop will not boot so I can't get to download mode..
Have managed to get it to switch on now but still getting the write failed when trying to flash the PDA. Have tried the GB Stock Safe and have tried the official samsung, both fail. This really does sound like an internal memory issue to me as everything seems to work fine until itgoes to write to the memory, does that sound feasible or am I just panicking?
One piece of advise...make sure that your battery is fully charged before you start anything....like if you plug it in will it show it charging...because if you start messing around with Odin or flashing and it dies from lack of power....then you will be SOL....I just had to send two into Samsung in the U.K. to get them flashed back to normal....but followed the Overcome rom instructions and both now have 2.3.3 android...Good luck!

3.Use triangle away to reset counter
4 Back to Stock ROM

Hi dude here is the message angelom sent to me its got the link to the Kernel Enjoy
So here is the link kernel that reset counter and remove yellow triangle:
http://www.mediafire.com/?5bmrc6cf81w5mya
Of course this is what I tried last night and it was fine (flashed over 10 times)
instructions:
It 'a tar file, then flashed it with Odin Pc
You need to have ICS, so if you tried to install GB with odin, you have to flash the Chinese leak ICS (always with odin)
Even if you flash the rom from error, after trying to install, always installs with odin the kernel, it usually also with your problem is successful.
Just you see that phone reboot (just odin gives you the message that the flash of the kernel has been successful) disconnect the usb cable and press once the keys to enter the recovery mode (Vol + + home + power) and keep them pressed until do not see the recovery.
You'll still have the yellow triangle.
When did you get into recovery (still touch CWM) touch on reboot
So, even if eventually the Rom should not start it for the problem of partitions, you'll see that the triangle is gone and the counter is reset.
Of course you do so at your own risk, given my experience after what has happened, I emphasize.

Make sure that the custom rom you have use a kernel where the MMC_CAP_ERASE command is blocked. And if it wasnt blocked and you had done a factory reset or a wipe in the recovery then you might end up stuck in the odin when downgrading back to GB.
If its blocked then you can go ahead with the steps by sahil above.

You have to wipe data in case you face so issues. But as I was not aware of the process that ODIN flashed it successfully i can't advise you to wipe as ICS kernels are unsafe and can brick your device. Way to Go!!!

It was already on the GB kernel. I was at the setup screen when the problems happened. Sorry, I forgot to add that. I knew that you can't wipe data on an ICS kernel, when I flashed ROMs I would always flash abyss kernel and then wipe data, cache and dalvik cache, I just didn't know that it was this easy to go back to stock and unroot. Thank you so much for your help.
Wouldn't hold my breath for a stock ICS XSA (Australian) ROM, though.
ICS ROMs have been out for many regions since May, however still no sign of an Aussie one - I've been waiting as well.....

Galaxy note what an update, and now won't even start. Help please!
My Samsung note was updated from gingerbread to ice cream sandwich using Samsung Kies. Then rooted and put on the Franco kernel. That's when the problems started: lag city! It couldn't even play fruit ninja or noogra nuts. Everything was slow. subsequent updates wouldn't work. Every few hours it would remind me, and I would click dismiss.
I've also been using an aftermarket battery. When the battery would get low, screen would activate all pixels and go very bright. At this point I would have to hold down the power button. Anyway, the last time I did this was the last time the phone was on. When I try to start the phone it gets to the Samsung bit after the opening flash intro, and the Samsung just glows and blinks. I've tried many times but it doesn't work. If left in the state, it gets very hot and will Drain the battery very quickly.
I am able to get to the clockwork mod recovery. What shall I do from here? I see there's an option to backup, but how would I restore from and what all my data be there? I have some really important data on the phone that I'm hoping to recover. In fact some of that data is worth several hundred dollars, because it's my proof for my friend who was defrauded by a ticketing agent.
Your help would be really appreciated everyone!
From what I can tell, you haven't wiped so it shouldn't be a emmc brick.
You said you could get to CWM recovery so from there you should first mount your phone to your pc and back up anything important like that "several hundred dollar" info.
Y'know. Just to be safe.
Then download a safe kernel such as Hydracore or Philz and put it on your phone.
Flash it, reboot recovery, then do all 3 wipes and see if that solves your problem.

Thanks again for the reply. When I do that and plug it in, the computer installs the device driver software correctly. However, I can't find the device either in "my computer" or in the device management/hard disk management console. I've tried this on two computers with the same result. The option to eject is in the tray icon (similar to other removable storage), but that's the only place it seems to be visible.
Flash a Philz kernel from franco recovery. Reboob recovery to get into Philz. Then mounts and storage /mount USB. PC will pick up both int & ext sd cards:thumbup:

Try hydracore 5.4 then. http://hecubus.com/xda/kernel/HydraCore/GL_HYDRACORE_v5-4_STD.zip
If you are unable to connect your phone to PC,
remove your sd card,
put it in a card reader or another phone that is alive
put the above downloaded kernel.zip on the sd card.
Now reinsert the sd card in your dead phone and
flash the kernel from the recovery.
in advanced menu, reboot recovery
Now wipe /data and reboot, you should be good to go.
he doesnot want to wipe data i guess..

Well, he can try rebooting w/o wiping data.
@OP: By the way what is the "critical" proof that you are talking about? Are they some photographs etc? In that case they are untouched during the wipe operation.
So this will allow me to boot the phone without wiping the data?

Thanks guys again. Trouble getting the forum to load here in China right now.

So I finally got this done and it is still not working. I am able to access the SD card, but not the internal storage. Another drive appears in My Computer, but it is greyed out. Any ideas?

Sounds like you've got corrupted rw permissions on internal storage. It's quite common, but the only way I know how to recover is a reflash with correct wipes.

Well I finally got it repaired. Expanded said it would take two months after I mailed it back to the UK. Got it done locally egger where two places said it was the power chip. The good news is the pics are there there, but the data is gone. Do you all recon there is someway else to get the data. If the pics are there maybe the data still can be recovered?
Also, do you think it is dangerous to use whatever the local place flashed on to it? There are a few Chinese apps on it. System says it Systemis hardcore 5 and android 4.0.3
Thank you guys.
I randomly got stuck into a boot loop on my Samsung Captivate i897. I've read around a bit and seems like I need to use Odin to fix this issue. I couldn't get into download more through the phone buttons so I ordered a JIG. I am now in download mode and have Odin v3.04 installed. Can I use this version or do I need to have a specific version for the Captivate i897? Anyways, I believe I need the PIT and PDA files to do this fix. If so, can someone link me to them? I am not able to find a working link for these 2 files.
Any help would be appreciated :good:

What ROM you are currently running and what kernel?
Might be software or hardware issue, more information is needed.

Sorry, It has been a while and I cannot remember I wish I could get into SOMETHING on the phone to retrieve this information instead of staring at the loading screen forever
There is a sticky thread in Captivate Android Development with Odin one-click stock ROMs. Flash the phone back to stock ROM and see if it solves the problem. In your case I would use Android 2.1 package without bootloaders, because there is no information about what bootloaders you have. Read carefully the flashing instructions and you should be fine.
You can also use the universal Odin from the galaxy s2/3/4 forums. I've used it a bit with no issues.

If u have a custom rom u also have custom recovery ? Flash ur backup of original or other. Can still put random backup or custom rom from sd card. If ur crazy about that particular rom then get a fresh copy.

Odin Version: 1.83, 1.85 or Heimdall
Pit: Heimdall can extract PIT
I'd recommend getting the KK4 Heimdall One Click, since it works cross-platform, its safer than Odin and it comes with bootloader in case you wanted to try the i9000 GB BL/Any i9000 based rom

Playing with other bootloaders (I9000) is not something to get started with.. I highly discourage people of doing so unless they fully understand what they're doing.

But if you want to use an i9000 rom, you're going to need the BL though. For AOSP, either is fine I'm pretty sure

True. I guess what I meant is more along the lines of don't play with those if you're getting started or getting back into flashing. Bootloaders are the only way to brick your phone so the less you play with them, the better!

Thanks for all the replies people. I have downloaded Android 2.1 w/o bootloader. Currently I am viewing this thread [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350266] as I believe this is the one I need to follow before flashing, correct? Or did you mean another thread when you mentioned 'Read carefully the flashing instructions' ?
Thanks once again.

That is the one. You'll need the gb bootloaders if you don't already have them.

Ok thanks. gb = gingerbread right?
Also, I am stuck at this step: "Find a neat-o ROM from Captivate Development Section and get it onto your internal SD card (the one you cant remove) download using phone internet browser or download and copy to phone using PC."
When I plug phone into PC through USB, My Computer shows 2 new drives but I am unable to open either
Go to Settings/ Applications/ USB settings/ then select Mass storage, then back out to Home screen. Then when u connect ur phone to ur pc, look at ur Captivate screen, it will show USB connected, then u have to tap the button that says...Connect storage to PC.
That should do it.

Think you missed the fact that I can't load into my phone The issue at hand is a boot loop
Can ya reboot into Recovery ? If yes then wipe data/factory reset, then reboot.
If not and u can get into download mode u can try one of the stock KK4 One Clicks that i put together. They will wipe data, dbdata and cache for u and will put u on complete stock i897uckk4 gingerbread 2.3.5 firmware.

You might wanna check your drivers, try another cable and another port. If all fails, try another pc.

The problem isn't with the cable, drivers, or ports I believe. It is because I do not have USB debugging enabled; and there is no way I can enable it since I cannot get into my phone :/ Is it possible to enable it through the computer via any software?

Usb debugging is only needed for ADB and couple other things. It doesn't change anything to the pc recognizing your phone. (Think about it, out of the box, you can connect it to your pc and it doesn't have usb debugging on)
