I have recently installed CM7 on OB.
Whenever I try to install an application (.apk) on CM7, the phone automatically reboots.
My Procedure of installation
- Rooted device via this Guide
- Performed wipe data etc etc
- Installed the CM7 zip via CWM Touch (which was installed during the rooting procedure)
Lol.BTW the 'official' CM7 is not really that stable.I suggest you use Zeus,Mercurified,Boypes rom,or any other GINGERBREAD/v20x based rom.
Yours faithfully,
UniversalSS
My main agenda is to help, not gain thanks.

I would like to install CM7 ROM on my Milestone which already has a GOT Froyo 2.2.1. What are the steps I need to follow without bricking my device?
Hi, take a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932196
Install latest Androidiani OpenRecovery can be found here.
It's wise to make a backup using OpenRecovery first before you update.
Copy the latest CM7 build to the folder /sdcard/OpenRecovery/updates
Don't unzip your download.
If you want to use Google Apps i.e. GMail etc. then you need to download this here.
Then reboot into OpenRecovery and scroll down and Wipe Data / Factory Reset
Go to Apply Updates and choose your freshly downloaded zip file.
Then install the gapps file the same way.
Reboot your phone and voila.
You understand that everything you do, is at your own risk off course. Always use common sense!
Does this also work on Android 2.1?? or is there another procedure for 2.1?
I'm running a Milestone A853 on 2.1
You can install the 2.2 with a full version and flash with the RSDLite then you can put the 2.3.3 cyanogenmod.
I deleted my Rom Manager in an attempt to refresh and install the pro version. I did this by using the force uninstall from TB, which actually did not remove it, but then I did remove it normaly via the TB remove app feature (not force uninstal). Now when I try install the rom, it will not load. I do not get any errors when I try to install it. It is just is not there / cant be seen by any app or in a directory. Any suggestions on how to fix this??? Are there any alternative apps???
Just fyi - I am also unable to install the latest CM7 version. It gets to the CM7 boot screen, but hangs on it ofr more than an hour with no progress. Just fro clarification, I have since reloaded the latest CM6 version, to see if Rom Manager would install, but it still wouldn't.
Current phone is a Sprint Hero, running the latest CM6 Version.
when you reloaded CM6, did you restore a backup or did you wipe everything and reload a fresh image?
I had a problem using ROM Mgr when I tried to flash the recovery. Ended up it wouldn't boot into recovery and after that it wouldn't flash the recovery anymore. I was able to flash the alternate ra recovery, wipe factory data/cache & davlik cache, reload clean CM6.1 with latest gapps. Still the ROM Mgr was goofy. I used the fix permissions tool in ROM Mgr and it finally allowed me to flash the CWM recovery (2.5.0.7) successfully and reboot into recovery mode. Maybe the fix permissions or making sure everything (besides your SD card) is wiped would help? Or, try using the ra recovery to load your CM7 image (not sure if that is supported).

You need to do a full wipe of absolutely everything and then update your recovery image. Do a fresh download(try from a mirror) of the latest CM7 version. Make sure that everything is fully wiped and you wipe your system, cache, data and davlik-cache. Do the wipe TWICE.
Once you are flashing CM7, make sure you only flash the rom first and then boot up and see if it goes through.
Thanks for the info, Waffle_.. So to just clarify... I need to:
1. wipe everything twice
2. get a fresh download of cm7
3. then install cm7
What do you mean by "Once you are flashing CM7, make sure you only flash the rom first" -- Like make sure it boots up before installing anything else????
Thanks!

Yes.
Meaning, when you flash the rom, don't flash gapps or anything else. Flash the rom only, then reboot and make sure it runs. And then you can go back and flash gapps, etc.
Does anyone know how to install the Latest Cyanogen 7 mod onto a Samsung Galaxy S i9000, i have followed the instructions, downloaded the latest initial update and nightly update and just doesn't work. I really like the Mod, just cant get the dam thing to work??
Do you have flash a fresh JPU firmware (with bootloader update tick in Odin) before the installation of CM7 ?
You need froyo bootloaders, then flash the latest full nightly from CWM.
Follow my guide and if you have any problems, let me know...

Good luck
Without Speedmod kernel
Correct me If I am wrong.
Iused this method which is mentioned below. I haven`t used speedmod kernel here. It worked well. Written below is from my post.
Easiest way to start is by installing EZbase ROM, which is rooted.
1. As mentioned in this page, http://www.theandroidsoul.com/cyanogenmod-7-cm7-samsung-galaxy-s/
check you are Case I, Case II, or Case III. Install EzBase ROM, which is 2.2.1 and rooted and CWM 2.* will be installed. http://www.theandroidsoul.com/ezbase-ezrom-for-android-2-2-install-revert-back/
Do not install CM7 as explained in it. It is outdated.
2. Easier to flash using the second method as mentioned here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Flashing_CyanogenMod
Download latest CM7 nightly for SGS.No Stable/RC/Beta available till today) You will also get efs folder backed up, CWM 3.1.*
3. Download Gapps for CM7 (Not included due to licensing.) You need that for Android market Access, and other google applications.
It can directly install your market apps for your google market account, if you ticking the boxes.
4. Download ROM manager from Market and use it for backing up your data. Premium version help to check and dowload latest update or you can it manually.
Just want to start by saying this is a great forum, lots of information, and I've read alot of it, as there are so many twists and turns depending on your device.
Here is where I am at with my first time rooting/installing a custom rom
Started with stock Model GT-I9000M, Firmware version 2.2, Baseband version I9000UGJL2, Kernel 2.6.32.9 ([email protected] #3), Build number FROYO.UGJL2.
Step 1, I rooted my device using SuperOneClick
Step 2, backed up /efs and /st13 folders via ADB and BusyBox
Step 3, Backed up apps, sytem data via Titanium Backup
Step 4, Installed CWM from Android Market, Flashed ClockworkMod Recovery, selected 'Galaxy S i9000' when prompted
(Honestly this was confusing as I tried to select 'GalaxyS i9000 (MTD)' as I have the i9000M, but was prompted with the 'GalaxyS i9000 (MTD) does not have an officially supported ClockworkMod Recovery yet.')
Now have 'ClockworkMod 2.5.1.2' installed, but was unable to boot into it, as I found out I have 3e reovery, which doesn't allow the installation of zip files without signature verification. So after much reading I learned I can get around this my installing a custom kernel, searching this link I realized there is no CF-Root kernel for my UGJL2 build, after more reading I came across this link which said if on stock Froyo with 3e recovery to use the latest Super Optimized kernel. I now have Kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected]_8_3#1725, and am able to boot into CWM recovery.
Step 5, I am following the instructions below to complete the installation of my choosen Deodexed Gingerbread ROM, and I get to the second last step which tells to upgrade to the GingerBread bootloader, but after doing so I'm reverted back to 3e reovery, with no access to CWM recovery.
Installation Instructions
1. Make sure you’ve backed up any apps / data you need to keep
I would recommend using Titanium Backup. Also, it is best when upgrading to a new version of Android to only backup your user apps and not to include any system data.
2. Copy the XXJVP_Deodexed_I9000M.zip ROM file to your phone.
3. Upgrade to the Gingerbread bootloader
You need to do this only if you’re currently running the original ROM (or any Android 2.2 ROM). Read and follow the instructions here carefully. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14013450&postcount=1)
4. Flash the XXJVP_Deodexed_I9000M.zip update using CWM.
So I have reinstalled the Super Optimized kernel, and am able to access CWM recovery, is it safe to upgrade this ROM without the GingerBread bootloader? I obviously won't be able to use the GingerBread Bootloader, as it blocks CWM. Any advice would be appreciated.
Two side questions,
1. When I was doing this post, I accidentally clicked the wrong phone in the 'Flash ClockworkMod Recovery', and had to redo the flash again picking the 'Galaxy S i9000', however, now when I reboot, there is no option for the Super Optimized Kernels 'advanced ulk features' so that I can ensure that the lagfix is disabled when I get to actually flashing the ROM. If I reinstall the Super Optimized Kernel again, will that option show up again?
2. When booting the phone now, I noticed the graphic that shows the model number of the phone starts out with 'I9000M' and then switches to 'I9000', dropping the 'M', is this an issue, or do I just ignore?
Thanks again.
I installed the 5.0.2 CWM recovery to manually install the 4.0.4 update on my NexusS via Rom Manager application to avoid extra fuss since I will not be dealing anyway with custom roms, etc. Everything went fine with the update and indeed at every consequent reboot into recovery, the stock ICS appears meaning that it has overwritten CWM, as I wanted and as should happen when installed over stock rom.
However, in Rom Manager still shows "current cwm version 5.0.2" even after clear cache & data application and uninstall / reinstall. Should I try manual stock recovery reflash or hard work for free and the program is simply... stuck??
maybe you have a nexus s 4g and put just nexus s? (or vice-versa).
your phone is unlocked and rooted, correct?
•neXus•S4G•ĄØKP•Mïlestøne 4•Aïr Kerneł 3.7•
It's locked and has always been cuz I rooted the simple way - without unlocking...
I flashed the correct version since everything worked fine at all stages. It's just that indication in the app that put me in thoughts...
SOLVED: Problem was a leftover folder post app uninstall in sdcard named clockworkmod. Deleted and when reinstalled the app to check, it correctly reported that I must install CWM in order to flash and restore ROMs. Rest assured now that I am 4.0.4 stock
