Possibility of some CM stuff? - LG Optimus 4X HD

Well, if I understand this bootloader situation enough, we can't edit .kdz files because they are encrypted. Thus disabling us from flashing CM stuff. However, if we can't edit stuff before we flash, is it possible to edit stuff after we flash? For example, mini stuff like these
CM10 boot screen
CM10 launcher
CM10 apps? (Messaging, Contacts)
CM10 Themes?
Other CM10 stuff?
I was thinking, are we able to "push" stuff into the system though adb or cwm?
All the small things matter right? I would certainly like a CM10 bootscreen and shutdown screen, over the stock laggy LG sh*t
I'd dive more into this kind of stuff but I have totally zero knowledge of doing this kind of thing. In fact, looking at all the funny codes make my head hurt. XD

+1 for this
i wanna see CM messaging/contacts/lockscreen.. thats it
since we cant port the whole thing, atleast we can port the apps right?

Yes, yes. I appreciate the fact that at least someone understands where I'm going.
If we can't get the whole CM10 to work, why don't we get the things that can work without the need to unlock the bootloader, working?

Well lots of stuff needs support in the framework. And means that we will need to inject smali code into the framework. Its too much work.
Better to focus on getting 2nd init to work and boot a working CM build.

I'm very interested in this matter. Can't we just deactivate some modules from the stock and push stuff from CM10 untill the point we have a CM10 like ROM?
Before having Android and getting lazy, I worked on Windows Phone 6.5, and that was the way of working with it's system.
If there is anybody interested on working on it, I'd be glad to be part of the team
To begin, did anybody checked out the CM10 device tree for LG-P880 that I found in the Cyano forum?: https://github.com/TeamNDVRu/android_device_lge_x3

Theres never gonna be a CM for this phone. They did have something up and running on a "developer" model, wich had an unlocked bootloader.. But this device has a locked bootloader.. If you'r lucky they will unlock the bootloader. But i doubt that will happen, and if it will happen, it's like 2014 or late 2013.

Bro this thread isnt about getting CM, its about getting SOME of its stuff, kinda like themeing but with real CM stuff and not just some skins. Like the messaging program and lockscreen to be ported for 4X, not the whole CM... And dont be so negative about unlocking and JB on this phone, no one knows anything at all just hopes and rumors no facts. no one, including you, knows the facts about release dates etc... Wow this one was complicated... Maybe the vodka kicking in and when its 2am?

I know what you mean. I come from an Optimus 2X, and I know LG is expert on how to exasperate ppl waiting for an update. But I just bought the 4X for the same reasons I did with the 2X: is a cheap beast. I don't care about the waiting because it finally comes. It may be 1 or 2 months, but it comes. And in the meantime is a very good entertaining and a way to explore and to improve your knowledge of the device.

This is true But.. Ive had the phone for 1month.. and my experience is poor compared to my old SII :/ And i'm no samsung fanboy or anything, as u can see.. i just ordered a LG Nexus 4..
Live wallpapers rly are bad on the stock launcher, at the start it was ok, but it's slower now.. with only 1,4gb of installed apps(GTA VC takes 1Gb..)
Heating issue.. in my opinion it makes it uncomfortable to use the phone itself.. the way that the phone reacts to the heating makes me mad! The screen darkens, and you can't turn it brighter.. because it will tell you this "can't, because of heating" or something like that
Games laggs and has fps drops it shouldn't have.. HTC One X is better optimized, when it comes to games.. And of course it should .. it's higher priced.. but it has the same hardware :/.. it's wierd in my opinion.
For thre ppl waiting for an JB update.. i rly hope this will fix the phone for you.. because it's cheap.. yes.. but it feels that way too

Just because it has an locked bootloader it doesn't mean that it will never see custom ROMS, just like my old Defy, locked but has thousands ROMs for it. It just depends by the developers.

Let me guess, when you have a problem with your N4...who would you blame? LG or Google? But since you said (in your own opinion) that its not an LG phone, would you really blame Google?

Im not whining.. im telling my experience with this phone. And for you this is hurting? You that have both.. you should know better.
I won't have a problem with my N4.. why in the world would i? I've never had any problems with my phones until i got Lg Optimus 4X HD.
Atleast i can see whats wrong with this phone, and tell ppl who is asking.. I can atleast be honest, unlike others.
If you read my post again.. That post wasn't whining. It was a small "review" and experience ive had with the device.
And i did not "mock" the device..
I even said i hoped it would be fixed for you guys in a JB update.. how is this whining?
Ok, i posted in some threads.. and so what? I'm fustrated about a phone.. that has the same hardware as the htc one x.. but feels cheaper when it comes to the "smooth" feeling about the phone.. and how it runs.
And a game like dead trigger having fps drops and lagging, is bad.. same goes for Subway Surfers :/ they arn't even demanding games.. My SII was running Dead trigger with no problems:/ I even did the hack.. so i got the tegra 3 graphics.. still.. smooth ...
I just think it's wierd. And for me.. my experience with this phone was bad..

I do know better and I can honestly say that the N4 is more fun to use because off everything thats available for it. But somehow, i always find myself using the O4X. Idk, maybe its because of its rarity here in the US, or maybe because it is so damn sexy in the palm of my hands.
And no im not a baby. That's my sons name...in fact im 27 with an awesomely beautiful wife and 2 kids and a great career. And i know i may have been harsh on you, but pls stop talking about the same problems you have with your phone over and over in every thread.

Just a heads up...when you receive your N4 (that is if you do actually receive due to LG's super low inverntory) check the back if it sparkles. If it doesn't, you are bound to have a very diffective unit. And theres pretty much nothing Nexus support can help you with other than getting an RMA replacement.

[Q] Does anyone NOT have the reboot/crash issues?

Hi,
I'm seriously considering going out and buying this phone but I'm really not sure after seeing all the threads with people saying that they go back to their phone and it's switched off and requires a battery pull.
This seems to be a fairly serious problem but I was just wondering if it is happening to everyone who owns the O2x?
Please let me know if you are unaffected by the problem!

Mine is fine! 1 month of use and never crashed.
My phone has been fine not one reboot or freeze, stayed stock rom for first week then rooted and changed roms several times and still no problems, got mine off ebay brand new, can give u the link to the seller if you like

I've had mine since March and I have not experienced any freezes or reboots.
It really is a great piece of hardware. I'm not that fond of LGs software, but that can be solved with a custom ROM.

So, how do you get on Rusty, you seem like a very experienced XDA member.. how is the O2X treating you?
i am not the best guy to talk to . i just got the phone used yesterday for very cheap. i figured that if i dont like it, i can sell it for the same money or even make a little more and get the SGS2.
but so far. no crashes/reboots.. been more than 24 hours. using custom rom as well.
i got the phone for 300$. the stickers still on it. i figure if i decide to sell it. i wont lose at all..
so far. i am really loving the phone. i love the UI of LG. but its slow. it laggs. i wonder if there is a custom rom with the LG UI but smooth one.
right now i am on modaco. with 3000 quadrant. if i switch to google launcher. phone is smooth. if i switch to LG one, it laggs a little in the home screen. i tried the Tmobile version 2.3 on my optimus. its super smooth. but i cant make phone calls on it lol.
and i had a screen problem with the cayanogen rom. for some reason my screens dims and go bright on its own.
oh yeah. i also have a screen light leak/bleed. but it doesnt bother me much because the only way i can notice it if the room is dark and i have a black wallpaper.
Mine went slow once on stock, once isn't bad though. The froyo Rom does seem rushed in truth, (I have random battery drains from my Dialer which makes no sense) but I'm sure Gingerbread will have everything sorted.

Pretty well to be honest. I use CM7 nighties (I bought the phone specifically because it was going to be supported by them) so I cannot expect a bug free experience at this early stage.
I am enjoying it though, I came from a Nexus One that had bugger all internal storage and a poor digitizer, so proper multi-touch and 1.5GB spare for apps is fantastic.
The IPS screen is great if you can overlook the associated backlight bleed (it's not just the 2X, look at iOS devices as well, same thing), the GPS chip is excellent, I can get locks in place that my N1 couldn't.
The stock ROM is turd, frankly. It's fast, until you install something, then it becomes unusable for a bit until it's finished with the app... quality coding
fine
i have my lg optimus 2x now for over a month, no problems here.
i stil have the stock rom.
first v10a. no problem
later v10b. no problem
I have had 2 O2x now for litle over a month
one of them has had BSOD and restarts randomly - the other had none, atleast for the first month - but these past days this one has now also rebooted a couple of times.
Both are completely stock - not rooted and not using any custom roms.
Only using a different launcher which do help make the BSOD and Reboots less often.

I been over there as well. Most of the problems on the SGS 2 are either software or can be solved with apps. My O2X had so many problems that I could never use the phone and wifi at the same time. Bleeding, constant reboots/freezes crashes even with Custom ROMs. Since Im in afghanistan now I need a phone that will work not just when it feels like it. I will say that when the O2X was working it was a sweet phone. I just dont see the same problems with the SGS2 and Samsung tends to be better in the service side instead of LG leaving us pissing in the wind waiting for a "possible update" that might fix things or not.
guess i´m a lucky guy, too!
i have no crashes/reboots and absolutely NO backlight bleeding
Mine is also working properly.

Is Gingerbread still coming?

I kinda feel like AT&T, LG and Google have all but abandoned this device. It's an AMAZING piece of hardware, I sure hope they give it the attention it deserves!
You're correct, it did feel abandoned.
I'm scarcely back to wanting to trade mine again, so much as to get an HTC.
But still, I guess its cause there's no ROM's I'm interested in. This my first device.
I'm not getting the best treatment from this brick.

In addition, all we really need to find is a 920h baseband that has our bands in it to flash. I'm using a Brazilian p920h baseband with no issues. ICS is on the way in CM9, life is good for the O3D/Thrill crowd ATM. Oh, and hate to be the party pooper, but this should have been in Q&A.

I believe that you will still have to change basebands for whatever he produces so it still won't be any good for me.
we will have to change basebands yes if you want gb that is just one of the steps. until we get an official release thats the way it goes. you are able to flash gb and froyo basebands so if you dont like the gb baseband you can go back to froyo no problem. flashing the baseband isnt that difficult just extra steps in the process. also dont get discouraged stick it out with this phone, a bunch of people left because of no devs well, look at things now, we have seen 2-3 or more new roms in less than a week we have people working on kernels we have tekahuna improving his OC modules we have cm9 on the way. this phone has brand new top of the line tech in it so when we get all the kinks worked out you are going to want this phone.

yeh i agree to some degree. used to anyway. since this is the only phone with the tri-dual business i figured its just a sleeper waiting to wake up. my gf just got the galaxy s 2. i went there to play around with it and man it was dissapointing to b honest. it was THIN! i mean REAL thin. which is super nice. but not if its rly light. it felt like it was made in china out of rly thin plywood. now that aside, the speed. it was good....to b honest, it was just as good as our thrills. i couldnt tell the diff at all. only diff was that my thrill was able to load stuff waaaaaaaaay faster lol. it took her like a good 10 seconds+ to load up market or even search for smthn. Agreed... except the sgs2 is much faster and smoother with a dev rom.. I made a similiar rom for it and my phone flies at 1.4 oc stable... when gb att comes out I should be able to do same for thrill specially with bedwa making kernels... it isn't that far behind sg2 in performance.

yeh i agree to some degree. used to anyway. since this is the only phone with the tri-dual business i figured its just a sleeper waiting to wake up. my gf just got the galaxy s 2. i went there to play around with it and man it was dissapointing to b honest. it was THIN! i mean REAL thin. which is super nice. but not if its rly light. it felt like it was made in china out of rly thin plywood. now that aside, the speed. it was good....to b honest, it was just as good as our thrills. i couldnt tell the diff at all. only diff was that my thrill was able to load stuff waaaaaaaaay faster lol. it took her like a good 10 seconds+ to load up market or even search for smthn. (yeh i know thats cuz of the t-mobile connection, but still....prty big fail). and just in general phone looked like it had less to offer. i was rly worried about getting the thrill and not the galaxy s 2 but since i got to play with it, i can safely say, it is not as good. especially since my thrill is keeping up with it when its still a sleeper with old froyo. now the super amoled screen....lol i dont like it....no joke. when u look at it in the dark and the screen is black lets say...like ur gonna watch smthn on utube and the video is loading....the black screen looks like its been painted on top of an illuminating light and u can see all the streaks and its rly lame. besides that, i rly couldnt tell the diff. maybe it was slightly more crisp but thats all. u cant see sht in direct sunlight so who cares.
im sticking it out with the thrill for sure. even tho galaxy has way more dev, i got a feeling its not gonna b as good as the thrill. this phone has way less fame than it should have. but thats whats gonna make the handful of thrill owners awsome, when the phone finally wakes up after gb.

I can see what you mean considering you are talking about the t-mobile version of the SGS2 which as far as I recall made the screen bigger and also switched out the CPU. Now if you are talking about the AT&T version it is a totally different game. The screen looks WAY better on the AT&T version because they didn't stretch the screen to 4.5" and the CPU/GPU until Quad-Core chips come out is at the moment second to none (Exynos as opposed to T-Mobile's Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ S3 Processor with 1.5 GHz dual-core CPUs). Also note that they changed the Processor on the New Skyrocket as well and also stretched the screen which makes it look like crap. Super Amoled + on Anything other than 4.3" and below Really badly needed to increase resolution.

isn't the thrill's IPS the same as say the iPhone??
It has a bigger screen so the pixel to inch ratio isn't the same

Buyer needs advice

Hi guys, I think there is quite an unbelievable offer for Austria Hutchinson users. Basically you get this phone for 69€ on a 20€ x 24 months contract. With the contract you get also 1000 minutes 1000 SMS and Internet unlimited so should be fine. Before I saw that I thought of sticking to my galaxy s for a while.
Now that said I would love to take it as long as the offer lasts, but I am concerned about 3 things:
a) i am a custom Rom user since 2 years. Never been on stock again. And I looooooove cyanogenmod! Do you think there will be custom roms for this?
b) the camera quality. While I'm not too much concerned about the video quality, I use my phone as a compact camera outside to take pictures. So how bad is it in your opinion? And do you think will it improve with upcoming updates?
c) you know something about the possibility of unlocking this phone?
I guess probably I'm asking too much but maybe someone knows better.
Thanks in advance!

It's only an okay camera, there's better, the Galaxy 3 has a better one for instance, not by that much, but clearly. No idea if this is a hardware limitation, but I'd guess so.

No idea ... but I guess with root you should be able to do more or less anything,e specially, once CWM etc are there? But I'm no pro.
We have root and CWM now, devs are working on CM10 and 4.0.4 Sense 4.1, so soon we'll have great ROMs
And i think we'll have unlocked bootloader soon too.
Hey guys,
This phone looks really cool. I was thinking of buying this phone. I want a phone that can get rooted and a lot of ROMs. Do u think Im in the right place?
I have read a lot of reviews and from what I can gather is that this phone is a tad better than the One X and a loses the battle just barely vs the GS3.
What do you guys think? What are the pros and cons of this phone?
Also which is better looking? The white or black model?
Thanks in advance guys!

You shall like the white one. Also, your favorite food is grilled chicken, and you'll only drink root beer. Also, move to Mumbai, which is your favorite city from now on. Any other totally personal decisions you can't make I'm happy to answer, too.
Hey thanks dude!
I was asking because I've never owned anything but Motorola Androids and they have locked bootloaders. Ive never seen this phone in person and the reviews online only show the white one, so I asked here for this awesome community's opinion...
Also I like grilled chicken but prefer steak. Hate root beer, and if I lived anywhere it would be 'MERICA. Ill be sure to visit Mumbai sometime though maybe we can have a beer together.

Is LG policy still suck and unreliable? Since the older models like O2X said to not get ICS!
Yesterday I saw it in the market ,and it has the same price as HOX , I saw some comparison which end by no winner, yet the HOX really has a good support by both the company & xda community ,so from a fear comparison aspect ,which yr choice in case of : screen, camera quality and shutter speed ,video quality(some said its better in the OneX even with has low fps compared to O4X! ), and battery, thx ahead

This is not an answering machine...
Personally, I chose the LG because it has exchangable battery and micro SD slot. They both have Tegra 3 and good displays, so it's no big difference hardware-wise. HTC has a large fanbase, so you'll have more custom roms on the HOX, plus the possibility to unlock your bootloader with HTCdev. LG might learn and do something similar, but as they're not open in saying what they do, no one can tell.
I was checking on eBay yesterday cuz I want a LG O4X and saw there was a developer version kinda like the Razr has one too... can anyone confirm this?

I had been meaning to do this for a while. But last night I went back to stock. It seems to be a little better but I will know more today.
Thx again.
Also now that it looks like there will be a Flex 2 I wonder how may people will get that one? and if I should get it too? Nexus 6 looks very tempting and my upgrade is in Feburary..

What it all boils down to is user preference. If you like roms and a whole bunch of customizations then the Nexus 6 is the best way to go. Im sure the sales for the Flex 2 wont be too awesome due to the fact that users are experiencing difficulties due to lack of developement. I for one will probably get it cause i am now a devoted LG guy. Iphone is garbage and so is Samsung. Nexus is awesome and i will probably get the N6 once i see a nice decent price drop. But LG to me has changed tge game with their innovative ideas in my opinion. Lack of developement bothered me a while ago, but, now that i am too busy working, making e juice and playing cod i have no time to mess with my phone so it doesnt bother me as much, but, like i said its all user preference buddy.

Very True.. And your right about LG, they make fantastic phones. So much so that it would be hard not to just get a LG G3. The camera on that phone is crazy awesome.. IDK its going to be a super tough choice in Feb for me

over all rating. will you recommend it to someone?

Hi
How will you rate oneplus3 at ? 1-10
Do mention the reasons ..
I m using oneplus1 and confused if I should buy it or not?
I have it since Saturday. I'd recommend it to anyone who's in the market for a new phone for whatever reason they might have. For me, it offers the best overall package in the Android world right now. If you don't mind ugly OEM skins (I do), you could probably go with the S7 line or if you don't mind spending more cash, then the HTC10.

never settle. I've got it. yeah. once I got I download the oxygen rom from forum immediately.. cool !!!
I always planned on get op3,but as my contract was up I got a HTC 10, very nice phone but didn't strike me as much of an upgrade on my two year old xeperia Z2. Got my op3 yesterday and is given me more of a buzz than the HTC, which is on ebay.
Personally I'd recommend it wholeheartedly, the only thing missing for me is SD support, and with Google breaking that in mm, I don't really see that as an issue anymore.
A solid 9/10 from me.
Absolutely. For the money, it's a great feeling, solid phone that really flows. If you want to spend a lot, the yea, buy a Samsung or an HTC. For near stock strong contender with excellent customisation ability, get OP3 - 9/10 (not perfect because of the memory issue and no SD slot)

I agree... but the RAM should be optimized further in future Oxygen builds? In my experience, the SD card has created issues when it becomes corrupt... and it won't be as fast as reading from internal memory (good rebuttal from OP). It would be easy to say they should have offered a 128GB model but I know they wanted to keep costs down as much as possible. I've found with the previous OP devices that 64GB is just enough for my requirements
One issue I have is it was great they made all the Kernel sources available... but not the Dash Charge?? wtf lol
Mine is still in the mail so I can't officially recommend it but based on all the reviews I've read so far it's very promising :highfive:

Proximity ambient display prob. and camera performance
How u guys are finding the proximity display hand waving waving feature in your OP3 ..in my case im finding not so smooth...means I have to wave my hand very closely to the device screen to lit it... is it the same with u guys or just waving hand over frm a distance is doing the thng for u..kindly reply and also give solutions on how can I improve on the same.
Camera performace I guess is pretty gud in OP3 ..ya focusing closer objects is an issue...(it takes some time) but i guess thts just a software glitch...which can be corrected via updates....rest the phone till now hasnt disappointed
without a doubt id recommend this thing to anyone. its even got dev support before most people have it in hand. thats about on par with the nexus phones.
Guys!! I'm totally blown away in the first hour here!!!! Amazing amazing! Not one single complaint... See screenshots and photos.. The device is completely bone stock. Just totally amazed so far. I've had it for two days. Pretty impressive. Nothing bad that I can think of. I give it solid 10 for it meets all my expectations.

Maybe a 7/10. The hardware is great for $400, but the stock software has weird bugs, like camera photos coming out green unless I use raw, and I've heard the customer service is a nightmare if you have to deal with them. At least the developer support is booming so far. CM and PA save the day again.

Yes sir! I've had almost every Android device on the market since I don't know when and this device has impressed me more than anyone I've had yet.. nothing about it that's wrong!! The camera is simply amazing, screen is great, size is perfect, feels great in the hand!!! And I'm comparing it with the 6p and HTC 10 both of which were/are my daily drivers! Time will tell on battery life and stability but so far I haven't found a single bug.
