[q] tmobile 4g

First, I'm a flashing newbie, and still have the stock ROM and Radio flashed on my Touch Pro 2.
TMOBILE has now updated(via some secret behind the scenes update) their Touch Pro 2 owners to "4G" coverage in the Detroit metro area. I would like flash to some of the ROMS offered but I'm not sure if after doing so will I continue to receive TMOBILE'S 4G coverage. I understand that "radio" flashing is separate from Rom flashing but is anyone sure that just flashing the ROM would not effect the TMOBILE 4G update.
Any help or insight is greatly appreciated.

Does the TP2 hardware even support 4G? That's not something you can just "upgrade". Are you sure that they're not just offering more bandwidth via HDSPA? If that's the case, then what ROM you're using will have no effect on that seeing as nearly all custom ROMs have it on by default.

Got a screenshot of your TP2 showing 4G?

from my understanding, only the touch pro 2 from europe and japan have the 4g hardware, usa only 3g hardware, thats why i bought mine from taiwan so when 4g comes out, im well equipped!!!

what they are actually doing is claiming their 3g network as 4g. its hspa. they took a card from verizon that considered their 2g network to be 3g. "you mean, alot of our 3g network is slower than atts 2g? and the only bits that are fast enough to keep up have less coverage than their 3g and is still slower? nonsense! i choose not to believe!"

T-mobile is marketing the same network even when they say 3G or 4G because it's all just upgrades, the appropriate term should be "3.5G". all of their sales reps i've encountered don't know anything about their network or their devices.
a week before the G2 came out, one of the reps tried to tell me that it was sporting a "dual-core processor". i laughed and corrected him without missing a beat. just watch their commercials...it's sad to see someone advertise 4G when it's just "3.5G".

Actually, it's HSPA+, not HSPA, T-Mobile & Sprint are advertising as 4G, which is faster & only a select few devices support the new HSPA+ speeds. So, it's more like 3.75G. HSPA+ provides HSPA data rates up to 56 Mbit/s down and 22 Mbit/s up. Future revisions of HSPA+ support up to 168 Mbit/s using multiple carriers. Regular HSPA maxes out @ 14 Mbit/s. The TP2 & most of HTC's 3G/HSPA(+) devices only support 7.2 Mbit/s down, 2 Mbit/s up. So, to answer the OP ?, If the network in that area was slower than 7.2 Mbit/s down before the upgrade, you will see an increase, but it'd be maxed out at 7.2 Mbit/s due to device limitations. As this is a Hardware issue, ROM doesn't matter other than the fact the lighter ROM's runs faster & therefore can get higher speeds because of the extra free RAM/Resources. Whereas, heavy, more feature rich ROM will tax the device more & therefore the CPU/RAM/Etc. won't be able to attain max bandwidth. It's like having a 30 Mbit Cable/DSL connection on a Pentium 3 PC. It'd never get the max speed as the system is just too slow to take advantage of it.
So basically, their advertising maybe false, it is used to explain a faster network & used to simplify which devices support this new speed. Most consumers wouldn't understand all this. So instead of dealing with, "why doesn't my 3G phone get full speed? *cry*" from customers not understanding their device has a limited bandwidth. Think of it like the days of dial-up modems. ISP A has a 56K network, but User B has a 28K Modem, so User B only gets 28K speeds.

So it goes something like this;
2G -> EDGE (2.5G) -> 3G -> HSPA (3.5G) -> HSPA+ (3.75G?) -> 4G (?)
Also keep in mind it's measured in bits per second, not bytes. There's 8 bits per byte. So 8Mbit/s = 1 MB. Also some service providers cheat by counting it as 10 bits per byte. (b=bit/B=Byte)
EDIT: Interesting side note, according to gsmarena.com, the G2 & MyTouch 4G only supports HSPA 14.4 Mbit/s down & 5.76 Mbit/s up (T-Mobile's network is 21 Mbit/s according to reports) & the Evo 4G only supports Rev. A, up to 3.1 Mbit/s.

HTC One have T-Mobile hspa+?

Does the HTC One have hspa+ on T-Mobile? It doesn't have the 1700 band. I live in an area that doesn't have LTE but has hspa+ and hasn't refarmed the 1900 band so I would be stuck on 2g in this case?

Yes, you would be stuck with edge (2g) until the reframed network is live. Purchase the device from T-Mobile, it will have the 1700 band

Yes, that's what I was asking. So the T-Mobile version of HTC One has the 1700 band and will work with hspa+? I can't find the specs for the t-mo version anywhere. I guess we'll know for sure when it actually comes out.

of course the tmobile version will have the 1700 band. why wouldnt they? they dont want people be on 2g speeds now...
You probably looked at the dev edition (which is a att version).

Problem with TMobile phone is the 32gb ;/
I would love to get my hands on 64gb HTC One but it doesn't have the hspa+ aka 1700 band
Now I have been told you might be able to flash a radio but it has yet to be confirmed whether this is really possible or not.
Sadly I will be force to buy a S4 because of this issue. Unless someone can confirm hspa+ radio can be flashed on Dev Edition

I really hope someone creates a mod to Enable the Tmobile AWS band on the Unlocked HTC One, similiar to what they did for the ATT Galaxy Note 2. These high end phones have the hardware to work on the the various gsm frequencies, but they come disabled. Someone was able to figure it out on the galaxy note 2, but I have been searching and I don't see anyone working on a similiar solution for the HTC One. I guess time will tell. I've ordered an unlocked HTC One, and will test to see if I get 4g LTE in Chicago which is listed as a 1900 refarmed area. The consensus seems to be that if i'm in an area that does not have 4g lte i'll be reduced to 2g Edge speeds. This my friends...would suck donkey balls.

Same here. I ordered the unlocked ONE. I live in Houston which is refarmed 1900 also with lte. Had I known my dam phone would be delayed again I would have just waited for the tmobile version.

Your last statement about 4G LTE and 2G Edge speeds isn't necessarily true. I live in LA and we don't have LTE for T-mobile yet, however T-mobile has refarmed many of their towers around here to use the 1900MHz band so that you can get HSPA+ on phones that don't have 1700MHz support (like many AT&T phones and unlocked phones, like the HTC One Developer Edition). I received my HTC One Developer Edition today and drove around a bit here. While my phone doesn't have 1700MHz support, the screen still showed "H" for HSPA+ everywhere I went, and I tested speeds as high as around 9000kbps download. So being able to get 1900MHz HSPA+ is not tied directly to if an area has LTE or not.

[Q] TMOUS networks w/ Dev edition

I know this has been talked about in a lot of threads but for some reason I can't wrap my head around it. Let me write down what I understand to be the compatibility and what is not, then please correct me where/if I'm wrong.
T-mo uses the 1700MHz and 2100MHz in conjunction (1700 to send data, 2100 to receive) for their 3G/4G network and plan on the same for their 4G LTE networks.
They are refarming their 1900MHz (currently 2G) to support 3G/4G, but not 4G LTE. The refarmed map is very limited. http://www.airportal.de/
Given the above, the One Dev Edition will be able to get 4G, if in a refarmed area, but once you travel outside you're down to Edge or 2g. Dev Edition will also not be able to get 4G LTE, as that will use the 1700/2100 combo.

I may be saying the same thing you are and if so I apologize.
I believe (and will stand corrected if I am wrong) that currently TMO is using 1700/2100 for their HSPA (3G/4G) network and are in the process of migrating HSPA to 1900.
The One will not operate HSPA on the 1700/2100 system but will work fine on 1900 system so in areas where they've converted to 1900 you'll get 3G/4G otherwise you'll be stuck on 2G (assuming that LTE is not available, which it most likely wouldn't as TMO needs the 1700/2100 for LTE.
The One will operate on LTE in 1700/2100 which is what TMO is intending to do with that system.

[Q] UMTS/HSPA 900 + LTE Band 20 Flash ATT S5

I was hoping the ATT S5 would get UMTS 900 and LTE Band 20 (Europe Digital Dividend 800 Mhz), I was disappointed to see that it does not.
I live 45 min. North, Northwest of Philly and AT&T is the best carrier in PA - HANDS DOWN! I also travel every week, all over the US for work - and I'm very happy with AT&T in general. One thing I noticed on my S4 is that I could not get LTE in Burlington, VT on it - but I had full bars of LTE on my iPad Air. Side question; What band does ATT use for LTE there that the S4 don't support?

on the S4 I was able to activate AWS freq. for UMTS by flashing it. I need to do this for UMTS 900 and/or (pref. AND LTE Band 20, since I travel to Northern Norway all the time - and there is only UMTS 900 and LTE 20 some places there.... If I cannot have the phone flashed to have the current bands AND the wanted bands - would there be a way to flashing it back and forth from ATT to "Euro/International" mode?

AT&T uses bands 2, 4, 5, & 17 for LTE. Band 17 (700mhz) is what most of their LTE is on. That's why the signal is always good. I am starting to see Band 2 (1900mhz) in some areas. I saw Band 4 (AWS) in Chicago in a few areas (probably were capacity is weak).
Yes, with the S4 you could unlock the AWS frequencies. I do not know if you could flash UMTS 900 with an S4. You will not be able to flash anything with frequencies on the S5 as AT&T has locked down the phone entirely. It will follow in the Note 3's footsteps.
I think they discourage people unlocking their devices and using them on other networks. AT&T is forgetting what GSM is all about IMO. If AT&T LTE is not that important to you, you may want to consider the international variant which will support your European frequencies. It will NOT work on AT&T LTE though.

AT&T is most important, as I am in the US 95% of the time. At least the S5 will have LTE 1800 and 2600. My hometown in Norway should get LTE 1800 later this year. So at least I will have GSM 900, UMTS 2100 and LTE 1800.
Do you, or anyone else know if AT&T will unlock Phones on the Next plan? I got the S4 full price, but I'm using the Next plan for the S5.

They'll unlock it if its paid off entirely. But that doesn't mean you can't unlock it yourself.

Cricket Wireless and Moto X Dev Edition.

The description says the phone uses the following bands:
3G UMTS bands: 850/900/ AWS/1900/2100 MHz with HSPA+ up to 42 Mbps (B5/B8/B4/B2/B1)
4G LTE bands:700/AWS/1900MHz (B17/B4/B2),
I'm looking to use this phone with Cricket, or other similar carriers such as MetroPCS in Jacksonville, Florida.
Before I purchase I can't seem to determine if this phone is compatible with those carriers and will achieve LTE/4G /3G reception. It's important that mostly 4G/LTE is possible as I get signal drops in my area without those bands.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
