Re: New good and safe kernel:- Go Here and download PhilZ-cwm6-DDLR9-INU-2.5-signed.zip. Put it onto your external SD card and just flash it. It is stock kernel BUT with brickbug removed (So no overclocking, but is latest and performs better than some custom kernels). It also has CWM recovery which also blocks bricking commands so it is DOUBLE SAFE! You can also change bootanimation with this kernel. Bear in mind it works only on TW ROMs based on stock ICS, So no PA CM9, CM10 etc.
What are u looking for in a "good" ROM? Fancy? Similar to stock? Trimmed down? What is ur preference?
thanks for your answer...
did you see my pictures? is it safe to change it?
i want a ROM with good battery management, and good stuff in it, because i love this phone

Saw ur pictures on Chasmodo's thread (before he shut u down )
Looks like u are on Kingdroid with Speedmod kernel, is that right?
BTW. Ur links are broken coz u did "copy and paste". U need to use the insert link tool (the thing that looks like a couple of chain links)
ok, i put again the pics...

Just had another look at ur Pics. Your currently on a "safe" but slightly outdated kernel. I would still flash Philz (Double Safe remember?) Sounds like u want a cool ROM with lots of bells and whistles. Try Alliance
aha...
so it's ok to flash another good kernel and a ROM...
how to do it? in a safe way....
sorry if i put so many questions, but i don't want to mess up my beloved phone.....

OK, so
1) Copy philz kernel and alliance ROM to external SD card
2) Reboot into recovery (vol up+Home+power)
3) Select install zip from SD card and then "choose zip from sdcard"(some kernels have it wrong way round so u may need to select choose zip from "internal" SD card)
4) Select PhilZ-cwm6-DDLR9-INU-2.5-signed.zip and flash.
5) Select advanced and reboot into recovery.
6) U are now on Philz double safe kernel.
7) Go to Wipe Data/Factory Reset and select "yes.... delete all user data"
8) Go back and select Wipe cache partition and Wipe cache
9) Go to advanced and select Wipe Dalvik Cache "Yes.. Wipe Dalvik Cache"
10) Go back (twice) and select Mounts ans Storage and select format /system "yes - format"
11) Anything that says "mount" - do it ( except mount usb storage)
12) Go back and select install zip from sd card same as before.
13) go to new ROM and select it and "yes - Install ....
14) Wait for installation to complete then go back twice and "reboot system now"
15) Phone will take a while to set up so be patient.
16) "Ficeto" Kernel u are now on should also be safe. (just stay on it while on this ROM in case of compatibility issues)
17) Press thanks button on my posts (just joking)
thanks for info....

Coz it can be flashed in recovery (even Stock!) - no need for Odin (that is for TAR version only). Also LR9 is Faaast:good:
in the original post of the kernel there are versions for all ROMs . so select it for ur rom and install it. as its a stock kernel it can be flashed from the stock recovery 3e as well.. Odin as well. any that suits u

Looks like kingdroid LRQ, but don't worry! PhilZ-cwm6-DDLR9-INU-2.5-signed.zip will work fine - backwards compatible with older ROMS!

I'm a x10 user who changed the kernel, baseband and of course ROM of my little 4 inch x10... all with xrecovery and flashtools.
I'm now with the wonderful Galaxy NOTE and I read that here I should use CMW, stock recovery and other like ROM manager.
but I haven't seen anything that matches with my kernel KJ8... so
can I change my kernel to KKA OR KK8 OR SOMETHING ELSE???
IF THAT'S THE CASE... HOW DO I DO THAT?
THANKS 4 READING AND LOT OF THANKS 4 ANSWERING ME...
yes you can use a kka or kk9 kernel without a problem.
First you need to root and accordingly flash a kernel.
In developer section you can find how to do so.

Enough with the capslock.
1. Boot into recovery.
2. From recovery mode, select wipe cache partition
3. Installed zip from SD card
4. Navigate to the kernel and select it to flash it
5. Reboot
Never under any circumstance flash the KK8 Kernel just yet since there's no way to ROOT it.
@georgegon60 You mentioned that you where on KJ8 and that's why you could ROOT it.
Cheers!

I am looking for an eMMC safe ROM. I just bought a GT-N7000, I had the i717 before this one. I've been baffled at trying to find information on what is safe to flash, how to flash it, and what isn't safe to flash. I am currently running CM10, but I'm having issues with the GPS, etc, not to mention I would love to use the S-Pen again. Is there a thread that gives all of the information about what I can/can't flash and not brick my phone? I've searched, but everything I've found doesn't say anything about the eMMC bug.
I apologize in advance if this is something that's common knowledge, it's just that I am new to the GT-N7000.
Thanks,
Rob

So, let me get this straight. You would flash the kernel and ROM through ODIN?
Thanks,
Rob
Kernels are flashed through ODIN or CWM, ROMs are flashed through CWM (or ODIN if its stock firmware)
Anyway, Your on CM10 now, So your obviously rooted with CWM too, So just simply download a safe kernel (I HIGHLY recommend HydaCore cuz' its awesome ) then download ROM of your choice.
2 ROMs I would recommend to try (this is completely down to my likings) are:
CleaNote (Made by same awesome dev as HydraCore kernel) Completely stock ROM but with all the crap removed - Design for Stock look and feel, But super stable and fast !
RocketMIUI - Made by an awesome dev who also makes RocketROM - This is MIUI ROM, Highly customisable, great theming and tweaks packed full of cool goodies and apps, But also keeps the S-Pen features and apps (such as SNote , SMemo etc etc) Also, Battery life is fantastic (Im getting just short of 2 full days ! )
Once you've chosen your ROM + Kernel, Place them on your SD card, Boot into recovery, flash the safe kernel, Go to advanced menu and select reboot recovery.
Now, Do a full factory reset, along with cache and dalvik cache (under advanced) then go to 'Install zip from sd card' then 'Choose zip from sd card' Then select your ROM
Leave the phone to do its magic and once completed, select 'reboot now' and enjoy
** First boot can take upto 10 mins - dont panic if you think its not booting, Just give it time. Also, DONT forget to do a backup before doing any of this, Either a full Nandroid backup and/or a titanium backup **
Best of luck :good:
excellent explanation

So, just to be sure of what I'm doing here. Let's say I flash Cleanote, if I wanted to go back to CWM so long as I have a safe kernel installed I shouldn't have to worry about an eMMC brick, correct?
Thanks Again,
Rob
CWM is recovery, You will have it for as long as you use custom roms.
The brickbug only exists in stock ics kernels, so as long as you avoid using them you will be fine, plus, once you try hydracore you wont use anything else and hydracore is 110% safe so always use it when performing full wipes ect :good:
Sorry to steel your thread but my doubt is i rooted my note using supersu in zip format from recovery, now what i know is i dont have a CWM installed, so should i install it to flash a safe kernel or can i do it from the recovery mode?

I think it was the Galaxy S3 that I had that the kernel had CWM built into it. That's why I was thinking when you changed the kernel you had CWM installed too. So the note has a separate recovery partition?
Thanks Again,

PS: I really appreciate the help. It's frustrating for someone who hasn't had the international note during the eMMC era to flash things. Bricking this phone would break my heart, lol.

i guess that s3 also had a custom kernels cuz the stock kernel will never have CWM as its a custom recovery.
when u change to a custom kernel, it will mostly have CWM builtin

its mainly for flashing custom ROMs and do advanced tasks as the stock recovery dont offer such facilities.
more over ICS kernel is not safe even to do a factory reset. so if ever ur becomes slow and u want to do a factory reset u risk ur phone.
so better install a safe kernel and all safe kernel comes with clockworkmod recovery and its safe to do a reset
I guess safe to reset is related to kernel not to CWM? Why do we actually need to replace our recovery?

I have tested kernel. This kernel won't universal for all but just like Cf kernel. It will be according ROM. B'coz here there is no other modification from stock kernel but just made it safe by removing mmc_erase_cap command.
This is stock kernel but binary patched with MMC_CAP_ERASE removed from both recovery as well kernel
Best thing is you can flash with stock recovery and also gives root.
So anyone want to test let me know."
Yes I know I am a NOOB at 46 but I still can't resist messin with **** that isn't broken. Loved the NOOB video.
The probem is I think I flashed a dodgey ROM app and got scared half way through and tried to reset the phone to factory.
This is my Galaxy Note GT n7000. I have done a factory reset 3 times and believe I am well on my way to bricking my phone if I do this again.
All is good so far except the CAMERA.
I have downloaded the necessary HOTFILE STOCK ROM for NZ from your site but am now scared ****less to flash it.
Should I just give it back to the manufacturer and say DUH I DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED and let them fix it
I also have GINGER BREAD 2.3.6 ROM Should I just flash this and hope for a fix
I also have ICS 4.0.4 XXLRG Should I Flash this after 2.3.6
Just need a little help and direction, as this is all quite new to me. Yes I'm sure this has all been done before and as I yell at my kids for doin stupid **** you deserve the same latitude.
Cheers ****
flash gb first.. after flashing the gb do a factory reset and then check your camera if it's working or not.. if you got lucky and got it working then flash a ics otherwise take it to manufacturer for repair.. don't mess up when you don't know what you are doing
Ps: if everything goes well and you flashed a ics rom then please flash a modified stock kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191

Thanks for your reply, but if you look at the other reply it says to flash ics and NOT to do a FACTORY reset and you say to do the factory reset what is the risk of doing the factory reset
Not to sure which version of PHILZ modified Kernel to use Can you help with this
If you choose GB, it's safe. But ICS kernels have a bug which can brick the phone if a factory wipe is made. What abhinav said was to do a wipe in GB. Which is safe. What I told you was you can directly install the ICS rom but refrain from wiping till you install a safe kernel.
Go to OAD forum of note and you will see Philz thread. Download any ICS kernel like DDLRB and place on external SD. Then boot in to recovery and choose "apply update from external storage". Choose the zip file you downloaded. Once done boot into recovery again. Yubwill have Cwm. Now you have a safe kernel. You can do a factory wipe.

You have an ICS rom. You can use any ICS kernel by Philz. Use xxlrt or ddlrb
Flashing via odin will increase the counter and yellow triangle at boot. Best is to flash via recovery. Place the zip version of the kernel on ext sd card and boot into recovery

I used modified ICS kernel PhilZ cwm6 XXLRG DBT 3.99 signed zip version but when I boot from SD it stops and says that it can't verify the signature and wont install
Do I need and unzip app? If I install this update will I have root access to run apps like Titanium Backup?
Or should I use the tar file in ODIN?
I do appreciate all your time and effort
What option did you select in recovery?
This is what you need to follow
1. Download the signed zip version of the kernel and place in external sd.
2. Boot into recovery and choose "apply update from external storage".
3. Choose the file you downloaded.
4. It will do the magic.
This will give you root access and yes apps like TB can be used. Also you will get CWM and it's a safe kernel too.
Dude he has done everything correct i know.. The v.3.99 of ics kernels are not built correctly when you flash them in stock ics recovery they always give a verification failed error.. But the older versions are ok to be flashed in stock ics recovery

Use the tar method only if u are confident enough
And yes you will be able to run applications like titanium backup
And for the flash counter just use triangle away
Search Google for it
All is well that ends well

Hi,
I was redirected to this part of the forum. A friend of mine rooted my samsung mobile Galaxy S I9000 with a android 2.2 version. I cannot contact him anymore to help me with the update and I am really a newbie in this rooting world. So, I am coming on this forum to have some advice. I read information on rooting your device, in which everything is explained very well, but could not find information on how to update once a device was rooted (probably I did not search in the right place). What I did so far is:
1) Taking backup of my pics (by manually drag and drop the folder on my pc), SMS and call logs (with sms backup + app), syncronized my contacts with gmail so that I can recover them later on and backup the music folder. I installed backup Titanium to back up my apps on my SD card.
But now, I am stuck with some questions (could you guide me where to find the information?):
1) Which most recent version of Android is supported on the device I have? Which version will work best?
2) Is there important information that I forgot to back up? + I have a problem with the backup Titanium app. It could reach my root in the beginning, but then the Superuser app updated the binary and from then on my titanium app got stuck when getting access to the root. Any idea how to solve this? Install an older version of the bin.file? How to do that exactly? thanks! => I could fix this problem by installing an older version of superuser in CW recovery. If others have problems with this issue, I can provide help from now on
3) Is there a guide with step by step procedure on which files I have to download on my pc and which procedure to follow? Or could you advice me some useful links?
thanks!
1) there is android 4.2.2 available for this amazing device
2) you propably forgot to backup efs folder
3)
- 1) follow this guide to get android 2.3.6 to your device: http://www.darkyrom.com/index.php?threads/odin-darkyrom-10-2-resurrection-gt-i9000.4272/
- 2) follow this guide to get android 4.2.2 (cm 10.1) to your device after: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
- 3) now you can flash most of the roms you find in i9000 android development forum. i personally use slimrom
copy /efs! backup ur imei n md5 in efs first! copy da whole efs file! or do nandroid backup.
READ N FOLLOW CAREFULLY here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149455
considering u already done flashing Sammy n CF
prepare for ROM & kernel(optional) hunt! go to dev section and choose which JB u wanted.download it together with cm9.1.0 n copy to root of internal sd.
n make sure to flash cm9.1.0 stable from cyanogenmod website (galaxymtd) first from 2.3.6, first flash will bootloop, go back to recovery with 3 combo button. flash again n dont leave recovery.
after done flashing twice (if flash ended too quick, then flash again). direct flash 4.1/4.2 chosen rom, twice (first flash will come up with error, juz ignore it flash again (bootloop) recovery again n flash again

in which they install that JVU ROM... then they say at the end that you have to unmount SD card (but that option was gray in my case) and wipe the USB storage and then reboot in recovery and do those 4 wipes, what I did, and then he mentioned that you could install your custom ROM, so I put the version of slimrom 4.2.2 on my sd card and launched it for installation.
However, the procedure started, but after a few seconds already my phone rebooted and now it is stuck at the logo of Semaphore...
What did I wrong? And what should I do?

Should I shut down my phone and try to put it in download mode again to put the JVU rom on it again via odin? is that the best strategy? Or should I do something else? and if that would work, what is then the best procedure to avoid such situations again?
nope, u did rite, but also wrong, ok, read carefully here....
flashing for upgrade is easy if u follow carefully, when in GB, after flashing CF ROOT, flashing to 4.0 (cm9) first (take da zip from cyanogenmod website) but luckily ur on 2.3.6 JVU (if u follow da link i gave), so it will be safe (safe procedure will be GB-ICS-JB), first flash will bootloop, second flash (sometimes) will occur error n third flash will succeed, which means u hav to flash twice or thrice or maybe 4 times! if its bootloop, go to recovery back by 3 button combo (its da matter of when u release da combo button, release it rite after u see da first white bootsplash)
bootloop cause by changing da partition tp ext4, its common
but if u already try to reach recovery n failed most times, u need to flash back firmware n cf root.

Ok, thanks!!!! this worked!!! I justed flashed cm9 and it works. So, if I understand well now, I can just return in recovery mode and install from zip from sd card to cm10 and then for instance to slimrom? Or between 'two' flashes, I need to follow the last part of the procedure in the link you gave me? So:
"Now, what I do now is go into :
Settings > SD Card and Storage > Unmount SD and Wipe that and then at the bottom Wipe Format USB Storage
Enable USB Debugging > Plug in Phone
Window should open up showing your phone Directory..
Copy over your ROM that you want
Shut Down Phone
Reboot into Recovery (Vol UP - Menu - Power)
Wipe the 4 things (probably know these... you should do)
Data / Factory Reset
Cache Partition
Go to Advanced > OK
Dalvik Cache
Battery Stats
Go Back > OK
To move Up or Down > Use the Left Side Volume Rocker Switches with Menu to OK Action
Install your Custom ROM from Zip Card that you want..."
OR: can I just go to recovery mode and do install from zip without doing that procedure with "wipe" etc?
Just to know, as I am just a newbie in these things!!! But I want to thank you once again for the clear explanations and the good help!!!!
juz flash mate , its easy, da important thing is to follow da sequence, thats all, juz flash, wiping cache or resetting juz for changing ROM. not upgrading
juz FLASH it
GB-ICS (twice)(do not leave recovery after second flash)-(any custom JB ROM u choose(twice or thrice))(make sure u already put da zip file in internalsd). dont need any wiping.
but FLASH AT UR OWN RISK,remember that.
n yes, recovery need hardbutton except TWRP recovery.

Thanks!!!! Just one small question. I just flashed CM10 in recovery mode and first flash gave error, second went well. Then while still being in recovery mode I directly flashed slimrom and that went well from the first time. Do you always flash a second time to make sure that things went well or this is ok then?

as i already said, flash more than 2 times when upgrading, juz upgrading process. GB-ICS-JB (CM7-CM9-CM10/10.1) is upgrading process.
changing ROM not necessarily need double flashing, but u can do it if ur not satisfy whether da ROM already flashed or not

ok, thanks!!! no, everything is working fine with this slimrom, except for google play that does not seem to open once I install it. It opens and closes directly... but I guess there are persons that had the same problem. will have to check the forum for a solution

Hmmm, is probably because I get this error when starting slimrom: invalid IMEI number...I flashed it a second time, but it gave me the same error...
Which gapps have you flashed? Slimbean needs a special package, you find it under slimroms.net.

I will have a look there for that google play problem.
More problematic is that problem of IMEI. When I flashed from CM 9 to CM10 I did not do that wipe of cache and data as suggested above (the reply came later on), and then I flashed slimrom. That I forgot to wipe between CM9 and CM10, can that be the cause of wrong IMEI now? Is the solution now, to wipe cache and data, to flash again CM 10 and to flash then slimrom again?
Or should I just leave everything like that and do a recovery of my efs folder? If yes, any link for this?
Hello guys,

4.3 is Jelly Bean (JB), not ICS (..."I scream sand witch"....) could it be that you 've flashed wrong Gapps version?

It is just name of the ROM, and the developer writes you clearly in the first blue field, in the first text line:
Android Base CM10.1.3. RC1 JellyBean
JellyBean is not ICS (ICS is 4.0.x) so you need Gapps for CM10.1x / Android 4.2.x
CyanogenMod 9 is based on ICS
HELP needed for RemICS Odin installation
Not sure whether to start a new thread or not so for the sake of making xda a little less cluttered i will first post my query here:
It refers to the RemICS ROM thread already mentioned
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2300693
This looks like a great ROM and i would like to do a one time flash using Odin
Are there any install methods using Odin. I see there is a full download on the page but it appears to be for a I9003. Have searched all over and not seen anything as yet
FYI: I am currently running DarkysROM JVQv10.2 Extreme Edition, firmware 2.3.4
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVQ-CL281085
thx in advance :good:

This isn't meant to be flashed via Odin.
Download the rom + addons + gapps + CM9 (you don't need CM9 gapps). You can download the rom + addons from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075058
1.) Backup everything you need to- call logs, SMS, bookmarks, etc with Titanium or other methods of your choice
2.) Reboot into recovery. Perform the three wipe combo (data, cache, Dalvik)
3.) Flash CM9. You'll probably have to flash it twice- once for the kernel, another time for the rom. Let it boot.
4.) Once CM9 has booted, check that you still have reception.
5.) Reboot into recovery again and do the wipe combo. This time choose to flash the base rom. You'll need to flash it three times- once due to the incompatible partition (first flash overcomes this), another time for the kernel, a third time for the rom.
6.) Once the base rom's finished flashing, reboot. Check you still have your IMEI- you'll know if you still have reception.
7.) Reboot to recovery, flash addons (flash Addons then Addons_V1)
8.) Reboot
9.) Back to recovery (AGAIN), flash gapps.
Unfortunately a one-time flash with Odin isn't possible. But the endless flashes you have to do for RemICS V6 is well worth it

thx for reply
thx for your reply and apologies for getting back to you late.
If only i could do it the way you suggested but for some reason (me) i have messed the phone so that it now no longer is able to mount the external SDCard so putting the relevent zip files on the ext card is useless because in recovery mode using CWM these files fail to show.
I note that via CWM it shows the card as unmounted. If i try and do a mount it fails.
any ideas?
thx

What about your internal storage?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk HD
Here is where my noob-ness kicks in.
What internal storage is available by default on the Note1? Is it just the internal sdcard?
what puzzled me when I last flashed with odin (repeated it a number of times as I was trying to get the device to recognise ext sd card) to get the current Darky Extreme rom on (which is working fine no problem at all) is that there was still some relic directory structure left over. These were all empty folders visible when navigating within CWM. Didn't matter what type of formatting I did they wouldn't go. To summarise: much confusion and something got twisted.
So questions arising are:
-How to nuke the internal disk/card properly so there are no remnants prior to me doing another darky reinstall?
-Then, how to copy a zip file to internal card but still have it remain after the format and wipes that would precede a zip install?
-How to fix the device to mount the ext sdcard? FYI other sdcards can't be mounted either. I have tried 4 different ones. And here's the kicker-once booted I go to file manager and there I can see and access all the files/folders on the external card!!! So it's definitely a phone problem as opposed to a sdcard problem. Something got flagged along the line.
