Hey guys...
a few days ago i bought a Note from a friend.
I did a factory reset, but this didn't delete all the software, e.g. some games are still installed and also some user data is still available.
But not all of it...it's a bit strange-
Now i thought about flashing it to get everything clear and to get rid of this branding-stuff.
So i read millions of postings, and the more i read, the more i get confused.
I really can't figure out which Rom i have to take.
At the moment i think that i have to downgrade to a 3-part open, german GB Rom with a full wipe(?)
And than upgrade to a open, german ICS Rom (?)
Am i right?
And what about the Kernel?

Here's the phone data:
It's a german galaxy note from vodafone, Android 4.0.3:

First of all, you are on stock ICS so do not perform wipe again, it will brick your note (do some reading first)
Wipe does not remove system apps or games, that's why you still have those apps/games after wipe.
Your idea of flashing GB rom and then ics is good, download GB firmware from here, flash it using pc odin, wipe in stock recovery and then flash German LRT (latest) from same thread.
Once on ICS, you can use any of the safe kernels from Hydracore, speedmod, Philz etc (as per your preference)
BUT, READ ALL STICKY THREADS IN ALL NOTE SECTIONS BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.
thanks for your reply
jep, i already read about the brick problem, but that was after i did the hw-reset.
I got the phone, and my friend didn't clear all the data. And i have no use for foreign stuff^^
Also i told him that he should clean everything, the nex time he'll sell sth. like that.
So, after reading the brick related posts, i'm lucky that it's still working...
I already read many stickys, but not all of them, so i will continue with that.
You can't go wrong with hydracore kernel. It's tried and tested. You don't need to go back to GB just flash the kernel via PC Odin and you can wipe whenever you want when you're on a safe kernel like HydraCore and the other kernels jeetu1981 mentioned. Going back to GB is really good as well, there is 0% risking of bricking you're device once you're on GB.
For starters just flash the above mentioned kernels and you will be granted root access once flashing is done. After that install Titanium Backup via Google Play and you will be able to remove all those bloatware, games and other nasty crap that your carrier has added on the system. Just be careful uninstalling system apps.
Feel free to read and explore XDA threads, this will help you get through the learning curve of flashing stuff on your device. Good luck and enjoy your stay!
thank you guys for your help!
everything worked fine! nice!

Being the noob i am, I cant find the threads. I cant even find the search bar on the page.
I am looking to restore everything to stock, so I can take my phone to repairs using the warranty.
Baseband version: N7000XXLA4
Kernal Version: 3.0.32-CM-gb256552 [email protected] #1 smp preempt
Cyanogenmod version: 9-20120612-NIGHTLY-n7000
Build Numbber: cm_n7000-userbug 4.0.4 IMM76L eng. jenkins.20120612.013926 test-keys
You may downgrade to Stock GB, then you can update to ICS thru OTA or kies. you need not take your device to repair shop.
No i mean I need to take it back for repairs because I have a charging problem not Software problems
Any links for instructions?
Download and Flash any GB ROM
then wipe cache and data.
Thats enough.
I need some advice. My current situation is as follows:

You won't be able to update officially as long as you are on custom kernel, first flash stock kernel for your stock rom and then update using kies. You can also flash stock GB firmware first and then update officially to 4.0.4.
You do not have to unroot to update using kies.
Jeetu1981,
Thanks. I think I'll go back to GB

That's great if you already have GB downloaded, if not then flashing kernel if much short and easy, you can do it using mobile odin. You may be already aware but still, do not try to wipe when you are on stock kernel. Better to wipe before you flash stock kernel, if you choose this way.
Not your fault

Boot loop is normal after flashing GB rom using odin, just boot in stock recovery and wipe data. But do it if you are sure that GB rom was flashed successfully? I mean did you get the "pass" message and all confirmation in odin? If yes then wipe in stock recovery.
No Joy

Your suggestion didn't solve the problem. I'm still stuck at the boot screen.
Mobile Odin initiated the reboot so I am guess it thought it had finished correctly.
Hope you have more ideas to share.

I have tried that too. Odin sees the device checks the files and then stops cold.
Thanks for trying.
Can you post log, what you getting while flashing GB ROM with PC odin
-Disable firewall/antivirus
-Change USB port, don't use extension cable for USB connection
-Rebbot into download mode
-Reflash GB ROM, and any error copy logs and post here.
Whew

This morning the nice folks at a Samsung service point, "fixed" my phone. We don't share a common language so all I was able to get out of the conversation was that it was "software" problem.
Here is how it stands now:
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband version N7000XXLPT
Kernel version
3.0.15-N70000XXLPY-CL474507

BUILD NUMBER
IML74KXXLPY
The phone is NOT rooted
I assume that the changes resulted from whatever the service people did.
I would still like to get my phone back to stock but that seems like risky business to me.
My thanks to everybody lent a hand.
Hi there,
first of all sry if it asked many times before. I searched for a solution here on XDA and somewhere else on the internet (giyf ).
I want to root my Galaxy Note and be able to install custom roms in zip format (why tar? and how to get it? wtf) but i dont get all the confusing things. Its rly complicated to understand everything clearly.
I am familiar with rooting did it a lot of times mostly on HTC devices but its very easier to get the goal.
Hope somebody can help me.

Go thru these 2 links & you should be able to root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Firstly you must get a "safe" kernel with root permissions, get odin , connect your note to pc with USB cable , start your note into download mode ( home -volume button and lock button at the same time )and flash the kernel.
After that, instal CWM and flash your custom rom ( home +volume button and lock button at the same time )
Not that big of a deal
So...
So I can simply flash the HydraKernel over Odin(Pc)? And after that how do i install CWM? Just use RomManager?

Cwm is included as recovery with the kernel.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
dont use rom manager. once hydracore flashes successfully u will automatically have cwm
I have looked, googled for sometime now with no answer. I used philz kernel ages ago along with a leaked Samsung official jellybean, the firmware was from Korea I think. Anyways, the phone works 100% but I have not used it since upgrading to the note II. I'm going to sell the phone but would like to flash back and install the official UK firmware just so the new owner has no issues. Also when I reset the phone it's in another language, which might put some buyers off, obviously you can change the language to English but still. The reason im having trouble is because the baseband and build number do not match any other I can find on the internet, which makes me think I may have messed up when I flashed, although everything works fine.
My device info is -
Model number - GT-N7000
Android Version - 4.1.2
Baseband version - N7000XXLSO
Kernel version 3.0.31-1042183
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Sat Mar 23 18.25:14 KST 2013
Build number - JZO54K.N7000ZSLO2
All the info I found showed a different build number or baseband... so I'm lost. Hopefully someone can help.
Please be nice...
Thanks
I was wrong, the firmware was from Taiwan i think, anyways... I flashed PhilZ-cwm6-XXLRK-XEU-3.99-signed... that was a long time ago. Hope that helps.
I found this kernel, is this ok to flash? PhilZ-cwm6-ZSLO2-OZS-5.06.1-signed
Where can I find stock official UK firmware? I have not checked yet but will look... just did not want to get ahead of myself.
Thanks again for any help.
head over to sammobile.com and search for firmware for UK and flash it via pc odin after doing all the wipes. before flashing make sure counter is set to 0.
excellent, so what about my kernel? i'm sure I need to flash another safe kernel because I think my safe kernel was replaced when i installed the official rom?
sorry, so just odin then... not to worry about the kernel?

use the philz kernel you mentioned (.zip file), do the wipes, download the stock rom from sammobile.com and flash using pc odin.
Sorry dude, i've done this loads of times but as im selling it i'm feeling nervous...lol
flash this file PhilZ-cwm6-ZSLO2-OZS-5.06.1-signed?
thanks again..
Hello guys, I'm a newbie in this forum, I was hoping you guys can help me solve my problem. So before I start, here's my phone model and other specs:
Model number:
GT-N7000
Android version:
4.1.2
Baseband version:
N7000DXLS8
Kernel version:
3.0.31-906407
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Mon Mar 11 17:57:52 KST 2013
Build number:
JZO54K.N7000DXLSE
My Problem:
Unable to flash CWM using ROM manager.
Since I'm a newbie in terms of rooting and stuff, I've rooted my device using the easy one click root "Framaroot", and it was installed successfully. I just wanted a device with "Administrative" purposes, for some tweaks and have a custom recovery due its extra additional features like Nandroid Backups, just in case I've decided to install a custom ROM on a latter time and/ or other safety purposes. I'm quite afraid of Odin and other ways of rooting my phone, so I resorted to it.
What happened and what I've done:
After downloading ROM manager on playstore, I've flashed CWM, then I've tried to reboot on custom recovery, though what's appearing is still the default "android recovery". After that, I still tried to pursue it, I made a backup on CWM using ROM manager, but still, after rebooting my device, the same default android recovery is the one still appearing.
After such happening, I've tried to read some stuffs online, I'm not pretty sure and still skeptic about it since it was quite risky IMO. It's about flashing a kernel, and recovery something. I try to avoid using Odin or any use of PC (lol), but if that is the only way to help me install CWM, maybe I'll give it a shot.
My request:
Can you guys give me a "detailed" and "step-by-step" tutorial of how I can flash a custom recovery on my Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000, rooted using Framaroot and "never been modified ever since". If it needs flashing a kernel and other stuff, I'll be grateful to you guys if you can include it (or links).
Thank you in advance.
Only search for philz kernel n7000 in Google and it has instructions on how it needs to be done..
