LG cant make A Nexus! - Off-topic

The fact that LG MAY get the green light to make Google's next flagship phone for Android 5.0/ Key Lime Pie is sad...Samsung has done it since the Nexus S right?! And they did the GNex and Sammy has the right to go and make the Next Gen Nexus!!.. Thank if you agree! and comment if you don't and why you don't

5 manufacturers are supposed to make Nexi (?) this year. I agree, Samsung does make good Nexi (?).

Mix it up, Let it change, Apart from the Software LG phones aren;t bad, and being a nexus.. the software will be good

Asus made the Nexus 7. I honestly couldn't car less who makes the next nexus device as long as it has good hardware.

+1 to that. Got a Nexus 7 (actually work got it for part of the demo kit, but it comes home with me every night) and I love it. Could be better - sd-card support and 3G would make it perfect), but it's probably the best tablet I've ever used. Asus made a great bit of hardware, Google made a great piece of software - who needs to be a brand snob?

I think it's good to have a manufacturer other than Samsung make the next Nexus. HTC had one chance, MOTO got the XOOM and ASUS got the 7. Why should Samsung get 2+ GED's?

Well,LG phones have bad software but gold hardware, so who cares

I'm interested to see who ends up making it, especially because I'm probably going to end up buying it. I don't know if LG alone will get the next nexus, but there are rumors that there could be different versions from multiple manufacturers. There really isn't enough concrete evidence to know for sure, but since last year's nexus was released in October, hopefully we'll know more soon.

Why would Lg be a bad choice for the next nexus?
FYI software is a VERY invalid response, considering their phone would be VANILLA Android (nexus device, herp derp)
Lg makes great phones.
Lg optimus G anyone?
Htc would be a good choice again too...the Nexus One was EASILY the best phone of its time. The nexus S should've never been released, considering its a REBRANDED GALAXY S (prove me wrong, go ahead and name differences between the galaxy s and nexus s), and the galaxy nexus was outdone by samsung themselves with the release of the GS3 which is basically a GNex with a quadcore exynos and not OMAP inside. The s3 didn't even upgrade the screen from the gnex!
I think samsung has had their time in the nexus sun..

As Motorola Mobility is a subsidiary of Google or simply, now owned by Google why the next Nexus can't be made by Motorola?!
I had this same thought when the Galaxy Nexus came out from Samsung, but at that time Google didn't acquired the company it seems.

I'm assuming Google is afraid of violating any Antitrust laws. Not sure if them owning a manufacturer that produces their flagship would violate anything but I don't think Android OEM's would be too jazzed on the idea.

Exactly, In a way I do agree with some of the above posts about how Sammy got theirs twice in a row, but honestly, I have had all the Flagship phones and out of all of them, I would have to say Samsung did the best with the Nexus S. It was awesome, a good body, just the specs were low key...the GNex literally was an Extended version of the S. If Moto was to make a Flagship phone for Google, I'd cry and possibly not buy another Android phone until the following year! ;D

Is KLP really going to release so soon after JB? We are going to be at Zebra Cake in 2015. I wouldn't be surprised if they waited till next year for a name change. JB is on 1.8% of Android devices.

I think Google released JB when they did as a "Buffer" OS and to keep us all down and sane because I am sure they saw how various Android Forums exploded with questions as to when Google is making an update. Because look at JB vs. ICS, theres only a few differences, Google Now and Project Butter. I think when Google releases KLP...Hopefully in the near future, it will be a big step up and a competitor to the much inferior iOS 6 ;D

Does ASUS even make phones? Would be a sweet one if they did, everything else they make is solid. Would love to see HTC make it, they make great phones, the only bad thing is Sense and how hard they are to unlock, both of which wouldn't be a problem with a nexus.

to stay relevant to the coming generation of phones, itll need at least 32gb, 1080p, and maybe a better camera? i dont think a ram or processor upgrade is a big deal at this point
anyway, itd be nice if they come out with something like that.. really sucks for the folks who already got thier n4
Yes I would be pissed royally and I have an upgrade I can use but man is be angry

It is way more likely that they are producing the successor of the Nexus 7 (released in June 2012), which would fit in the release cycle of the previous nexus phones (January 2010, December 2010, November 2011, November 2012).
Seriously... Why do you guys put stock in this stuff? Blog news sites suck. Its sensational so they are posting it. The entire article is full of conjecture and other sites are just reposting the original article. After 2 months they are stopping production to build the next nexus? Yeah friggen right. There is no way that is happening and no one has presented any sort of proof. They haven't even fulfilled all of the back orders yet. Don't take the bait.

Google and LG knew what chip was in the device they designed. This is not some magical surprise. They can easily disable it in a future update. This whole article is full of conjecture that makes little sense. LG isn't changing the screen, processor, RAM, etc at this point.

Well, the included radio image allows LTE band 4 to be enabled. It's not certified for LTE by the FCC. Search for ZNF/E960 on the FCC site if you want to see the details of the FCC certifications; I can't include a link because I don't have enough posts. (If I had to guess, I'd say that they forgot a #define in the radio image to disable LTE altogether. These things happen.)
That's enough for them to be legally obligated to pull the device in question off the market. I don't know if that's what's actually happened, of course.
I wouldn't believe this rumor if I were you the writer has no source and is just spreading rumors based on what a lg person said about their continuous partnership with Google.
I think they might do small updates to it like fix some of the things that people sent there nexus 4's back for
I call bs. Seriously, every nexus has been given a year, 2 months would just be ridiculous. And this hardware is still good for another year easily, benchmarks smenchmarks, they don't mean diddly poo in the real world. Hell the Galaxy Nexus is still a damn nice phone with its dated omap 4460 SoC!
Also Google probably had the nexus 4 in the works for at least 6 months, probably even longer so I have a hard time believing they'll have another one so soon. If they announce new phones, it's going to most likely be carrier LTE versions.
But I just don't see how anything could realistically top this phone. There is no lag whatsoever, everything is instant, what could better hardware offer that you would even notice?

Google X family to replace Nexus family?

With so many shifts happening in the industry (like Samsung shifting to Tizen and away from Android, BB 10 OS, Ubuntu, etc) there is now talk of Google going against Samsung and Apple with an upcoming Google/Motorola X Phone to be announced at the I/O meeting in May during the anticipated release of Android 5.0.
Some are starting to speculate that the X Phone may not only be the next flagship device for Google but also the X family which may replace the current Nexus devices ( phones, tablets).
What are your thoughts about this? If true, do you see yourself making a jump to this rumored X Phone?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Google just started the Nexus 4-7-10 system two months ago.... I really don't see them changing anything, even the name to X, soon.
Besides, Motorola's designs are hideous (not quite as bad as Samsung's, but still pretty bad). I really don't want to see that X phone if it looks like other Moto phones. Give the next Google phone to HTC.

X-phone is a rumour for now. No one is sure if it's true. X if true is being built by Motorola, which recently pulled out of lot of markets couple months back. So it can't be a hit.
My guess is it might be a device for Verizon.
From Nexus 4
From a complete business perspective, any time is good to create a new line built off of the success of an older one. In fact, its much wiser to continue that method in rapid succession rather than to delay it. If sales have plateaued I'd consider it totally possible, and applaud Google in the process.
Of course, this is all just speculation.
I personally like the designs of moto, I loved my dx-2 and every other moto phone I've owned. In my experience they have a solid feel and a sense of quality.
There are many theories out there on what this X phone is going to be but the shifting landscape esp. regarding Sammy and Tizen makes me wonder if Google is cooking something up in house (w/ Motorola).

my guess is that its gonna be the next nexus device and will be branded as such, but google is going to push it as a phone for consumers in addition to the developer/android lovers phone the nexus line is known for, they are already starting to do it now with the nexus 4 but they would go all out with the x phone, so my guess is it would be on all carriers and available through the play store. theres not really any evidence that it would be revealed at the google i/o, maybe the x tablet will be revealed then to replace the n7. i think it would be released closer to the holiday season like the nexus 4
i think we can all agree it will be a helluva phone regardless if you like moto or not

4 is an unlucky number. First the S4 pro is the last of its series and a few months later is replaced by a significantly more powerful successor(mpdecision is a joke, the radio is a joke). The Nexus 4's launch was terrible, people still can't get one and there are rumors about halted production, and we can't forget the thermal issues. Our last strike being Qualcomm's lack of open source code for the S4 Pro which practically contradicts the purpose of getting a Nexus-experience. Might as well go with Tegra since openness is lacking from both.

I think all companies can make great phones if they focused on making one device a year instead of 12 like the iPhone is always going to be a top tier device but Samsung will work on an s3 along with others like galaxy victory note 2 galaxy camera plus TV's and other electronics.
The nexus and the X are closely related in terms of names so I don't think nexus will be abandoned. Nexus emphasizes on the X (jellybean boot animation for example).
They just started a number system so they can go to letters since its going to be different like the Nexus X but... Since moto is Google's company and "droid" has these dramatic commercials they may market it as the "Droid" collides with "Nexus" and the world explodes and then they show NEXUS written in droid red letters and fade out the NE and US leaving X glowing.
Lol it looks beautiful in my mind hopefully my writing expresses that.

Google Nexus X
Not that large of a change. Similar to the scheme they adopted with Samsung. Nexus S and GALAXY Nexus. The Droid X series by Motorola was popular so if Motorola made one it would make sense as a name (or as a good speculation for a name)
It would also follow Apple's ditching of numbers with the new iPad.
I was planning on buying the nexus 4 in a few months. I shouldn't have to worry about this new nexus coming out into the end of the year right?

I agree but to expand. I wish that they keep it a solid family. Hate to compare but like iPhone.
If I buy a nexus on a 2 year contract I expect at least the first year to get all updates. People have the iPhone 4 and aren't in a hurry to get the five because its almost the same but I was going crazy when I was stuck on GB and ICS was out.
Like the droid RAZR, RAZR maxx, RAZR HD, RAZR HD maxx, That is 4 different models that are 95% the same but yet some won't get jellybean when others do.

Yeah what the heck is going on with that.
Im thinking the nexus 4 is going to be great. Even Google preview video with the guy talking about the nexus phone being the best nexus and abandoning other nexus from the past and now they "ditch it" within 3 months.
First off. Google should never have contracted with LG. You are a big company with big demands for a high profile device and lg can't make more than 5 for launch.
The N4 on Play has "sold out" tattooed on it since an hour after launch.
Samsung had the same with the s3 but it took one month then it was back in stock and never left.
I gotta say LG dropped the ball on this one.
http://www.androidauthority.com/nex...focusing-smartphones-nexus-5-included-146707/
I sure hope that they don't call the family of products "X what ever" because it almost sounds like a ripoff of apple and all of their "i products". That would be like Google referring to android as "Aos". Very lame.... Nexus just sounds better and means connection or link. That's a pretty cool name, that your product is your link to the world.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
The nexus brand has always had "X" as the logo.
My Nexus one had the X boot animation. So an X phone is still very relevant to Google and if they are going to start manufacturing their own hardware it makes sense to distance themselves from the existing nexus program.
New age.
New name.
I dont see that happening anytime soon. As someone above me said, Google just launched the Nexus family and people are beginning to recognize the name "Nexus". Why would they abandon that ?
Also, Samsung is certainly not moving away from Android. They are hitting record sales with their Galaxy line of phones and theres no point in ditching Android.

Trading their nexus by DEC.

So many phones looking forward too.
1. HTC ONE MAXX/T6
2. NOTE 3
3. MOTO X PHONE.
4. A possibly revamped s4 with a snapdragon 800
5. HTC ONE AND S4 Google edition.
Just wondering who is trading their nexus 4 for what phone and for what purposes?

I will never buy another phone that isn't in the Nexus line as long as Nexus is being made. I came from the iPhone 4 to the Nexus 4 with zero experience in any Nexus device, or even Android in general, and I can tell you that pure Android is the best Android. I have a bunch of friends who hate Android solely because they bought a low-end phone that was running an outdated version of Android and had low specs.
"Yeah, but you should buy those Google Edition phones! They're so good and still show off pure Android!"
Yes, but at the same time, no. It's what AOSP 'should' look like, but it isn't truly AOSP. The OEMs still have to input their proprietary drivers/kernels to make it compatible with that hardware, so it's still customized. Android is developed for the latest Nexus device, and Nexus is made to show off the latest Android. I will sincerely buy every Nexus device that will ever be made because it is so open (and cheap). The freedom granted to OEMs, or end-users, is ridiculous. One line of code to unlock the bootloader? For real? Why WOULDN'T you buy Nexus? Come on.

Historically, not all nexii are as cheap as the N4. Just ask galaxy nexus, nexus s, nexus one and google one owners who bought devices from play. They paid an arm for their devices!! In my opinion the n4 is the best phone available especially since it will get official/unofficial updates for 3-5 years or so,

Well it seems that the S4 and the HTCone are not going to get their updates at the same time as us Nexus owners, Google says
On background, we will be working very closely with Samsung and HTC on future software updates for these devices and they will receive software updates shortly after a new version is released.

Do you think that i should wait until the gen. 3 nexus 7 ???

Hey guys from everything that I've seen on the new SECOND GEN. NEXUS 7 is not that impressive to me but everyone has a different opinion on things but there is just not enough upgrades or that many changes to the new one I think that the GEN. 3 will be a lot better and different in every aspect what do you think?

I think that you should make your own decisions. It sounds like your mind is already pretty made up-- I don't think people here are going to be too interested in rationalizing your behavior.
Bottom line: if the new Nexus 7 had never come out or you'd never heard of it, would you be looking to upgrade your Nexus 7 right now? If yes, then the second-generation Nexus 7 is probably the best device on the market, and it's worth the upgrade. If no, then it's not worth it (regardless of your thoughts on the third generation, if there is one).

How are we supposed to know how something is supposed to be a year from now? Only you can make that choice.
I tend to do change things ever 24 months. Maybe that's because it's the main way phone contracts work. Normally after 1 year their is only a slight jump in tech but after 2 it's 2 minor jumps which equals a major.
e.g. Samsung Galaxy S3 to S4 a minor jump but from S2 to S4 major jump.
Every so often you get major jumps in tech after 1 year, in my opinion you, like yours the nexus 7 to the nexus 7 2, isn't a major jump.

I think that when the New N4 (or N5) comes out I think we'll have a good idea of what the 2014 N7 will be like. To ME it looks like Google is trying to streamline their HW to keep from having too many branches.

I think you hit the nail on the head with your quote this is probably what the big G should do take the 2yrs. and give us a really bad a#% tablet that really stands out in the now crowded market like they did with the O.G. NEXUS 7

You should wait until the final Nexus 7 will be released. It would be most powerful of all Nexus 7 tablets. j/k
If I were you, I should not wait for 3rd gen. Buy 2nd gen N7, Who knows when it will be released next Nexus 7.
Wait for gen. 4
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
You should be publicly beaten.
I would wait, I upgrade every 24 months, I did that with the iPod touch and I will do it with the nexus. The new nexus 7 is very impressive, if it is your first one then awesome, but nif you have a the original one alrewady then its fine, I bought the new one last Friday with thirty bucks discount from staples and still returned it, not that impressive.
The only real factor is if you can get a decent price for your current n7, if not keep it

I don't know. I really can't see LG making the next N7. Really Other than Samsung who else could make the next N7? Acer? Lenovo? Dell? HP?
Those don't look like realistic choices. I mean LG MAY want to get back into the Tablet market and making the new N7 would be a good way to do that but I don't see it happening. Unless one of the above mentioned manufacturers or HTC (really unlikely), Huawei, Motorola (possible but not likley), Oppo (Very Doubtful) or Sony (Highly Doubtful). One possibility is Nvidia themselves but that all depends on, I guess on some part, how well Project Shield does.
I think we're likely to see N7 (2014) being Asus again just cause really there's no other game in town so to speak.

One of the names you mentioned in your quote being that of MOTOROLA I am still baffled as to why big G has not exploded on the scene with some really awesome devices especially with the name of NEXUS being that they own MOTO and yes I know that these are way old now but I really enjoyed my DROID X and my BIONIC and now that they have the new X phone coming out you would just figure that a MOTO NEXUS device would surely be right around the corner hey GOOGLE HINT HINT

That would actually be cool. Apple hardware is top notch.
But that's never going to happen.
You should really understand, technology evolves, new devices are practically created everyday, by the time you wait for the 3rd Gen you will have the same thoughts all over again.
If really want to buy it then do so, if not don't or buy an alternative.
Yes, no, yes, no euhmz yes, no, maybe, damn no, hell yes, sure, why not, no, yes, absolutly, no thank, yes, no
hope i was helpfull

Next OEM for Nexus discussion

Who do you guys think will be the next OEM for the nexus 5 being that LG has made 2 devices already I think their turn is over and Google needs to select another OEM
What I hope it to be is either Motorola or HTC as both of them make really nice quality phones looking at the HTC one and the Motorola droid Maxx
If it is indeed HTC or Motorola (lenovo) I hope that they will push out a really nice high quality nexus device made of some premium materials. And for the low end they could beef up 2 phones like how apple did with the iPhone 5c and 5.
Let's face it corners had to be cut to make that $350 baseline model but most of us especially in the USA are willing to pay a premium for a high end nexus phone.
So what do you guys think? Let me know this is just my opinion and it isn't right but it seems right to me.

To be honest, I would like Samsung to make it again. They have really come a long way in build quality. yes they use plastic, but they use plastic because it so much easier to repair and Samsung parts go for cheap online. You can get a digitizer for under 10 bucks. You cant even get it a digitizer for the Nexus 5 with out it being attached to the screen. Mainstream is better. Samsung is mainstream.
I think LG has done a very good job and would love to see them make the next Nexus. Likewise Asus has done a great job with their 2013 an 2012 Nexus 7, why change what isn't broken?
I for one would hate to see a Samsung device again. Samsung is not the Samsung that made the old Nexus devices anymore. See Galaxy S4 for reference.
Apple.

For an affordable next generation Nexus they will more than likely go with a manufacturer like Huawei, Asus or probably even Blu.
Company's like Samsung, HTC, Sony etc will charge a very high premium and Google seems to be going in the direction of "affordable, high end".
Whoever makes the next generation Nexus I will definitely buy it! I hated LG for the random reboot issues I had with the G2x and I also hated Samsung for the GPS issues I had with the Vibrant. After all that I still owned the Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 and now the Nexus 5.

Already released it will be Lenova-Motorola for the 6, the next 7 will again be Asus, and the 10.2 will be HTC.

U got that thanks for free. But anyway idk I honestly find ugly with the curved glass and metal frame not to mention it would most likely be in the 700$ rage or more. This is coming forming who had an white HTC glacier ( gorgeous phone ) and then HTC one s. I just feel the m8 doesn't have that Industrial look that I known and loved. But on that note I'm excited to see what lenovo will bring to the table,I mean have u seen the k series?

Personally i think the HTC One S and HTC Glacier look decent But the M8 looks great
We all have our own personality taste some plastic some metal but majority would go for metal M8
Based on your traits you prefer devices such as the iPhone 5c,Nexus 4,Nexus 5,Nexus 7,Oppo Find 5,Galaxy S4
Based on my traits i prefer that brushed aluminium such as iPhone 5,HTC One
Samsung would be my first choice. No HTC plz..

If you look at the leaked photos, and the specs, the m8 must be tall as hell. 5 inch screen, huge HTC bar under the nav bar that looks thicker then navbar itself, and the dual speakers. That's my only gripe thus far, plus aluminum is slippery. Add that with massively tall phone, one handed use may become quite difficult. We shall see.
As for OP topic, lg has done a good job and wouldn't mind seeing another. Moto would be cool though. In reality it really doesn't matter much to me, most all nexus phones have looked and run pretty damn good in there time regardless of the OEM.

Google it. Sorry I cant post outside link yet, not over 10 post =(
This make sense, thats why Google sold it to them. For android to spread into China for the mass market. A way to compete with Apple while they just signed a contract with one of the biggest carrier there.

ibtimes is not an accurate source as it claims to be. Plus their website is a peice of sh*T it plays video ads with audio without you interacting with the ad.
Until some legit source cites this such as Android Authority or The Verge we don't know yet for all we know it may not be called the nexus 6
I thought the numeric designation of the Nexus line refers to the screen size.

Not necessary. Look at the Nexus 7 1st Gen then they released another Nexus 7 2nd gen or (2013)
a hardware revision doesn't mean a number bump up. they decided to name it nexus 7 2nd gen so people wont get confused with a Nexus 8 that's 8 Inches
Nexus 5 would prob be called Nexus 5 2nd gen or (2014) or so, unless they license the name Nexus 6
