Who do you guys think will be the next OEM for the nexus 5 being that LG has made 2 devices already I think their turn is over and Google needs to select another OEM
What I hope it to be is either Motorola or HTC as both of them make really nice quality phones looking at the HTC one and the Motorola droid Maxx
If it is indeed HTC or Motorola (lenovo) I hope that they will push out a really nice high quality nexus device made of some premium materials. And for the low end they could beef up 2 phones like how apple did with the iPhone 5c and 5.
Let's face it corners had to be cut to make that $350 baseline model but most of us especially in the USA are willing to pay a premium for a high end nexus phone.
So what do you guys think? Let me know this is just my opinion and it isn't right but it seems right to me.

To be honest, I would like Samsung to make it again. They have really come a long way in build quality. yes they use plastic, but they use plastic because it so much easier to repair and Samsung parts go for cheap online. You can get a digitizer for under 10 bucks. You cant even get it a digitizer for the Nexus 5 with out it being attached to the screen. Mainstream is better. Samsung is mainstream.
I think LG has done a very good job and would love to see them make the next Nexus. Likewise Asus has done a great job with their 2013 an 2012 Nexus 7, why change what isn't broken?
I for one would hate to see a Samsung device again. Samsung is not the Samsung that made the old Nexus devices anymore. See Galaxy S4 for reference.
Apple.

For an affordable next generation Nexus they will more than likely go with a manufacturer like Huawei, Asus or probably even Blu.
Company's like Samsung, HTC, Sony etc will charge a very high premium and Google seems to be going in the direction of "affordable, high end".
Whoever makes the next generation Nexus I will definitely buy it! I hated LG for the random reboot issues I had with the G2x and I also hated Samsung for the GPS issues I had with the Vibrant. After all that I still owned the Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 and now the Nexus 5.

Already released it will be Lenova-Motorola for the 6, the next 7 will again be Asus, and the 10.2 will be HTC.

U got that thanks for free. But anyway idk I honestly find ugly with the curved glass and metal frame not to mention it would most likely be in the 700$ rage or more. This is coming forming who had an white HTC glacier ( gorgeous phone ) and then HTC one s. I just feel the m8 doesn't have that Industrial look that I known and loved. But on that note I'm excited to see what lenovo will bring to the table,I mean have u seen the k series?

Personally i think the HTC One S and HTC Glacier look decent But the M8 looks great
We all have our own personality taste some plastic some metal but majority would go for metal M8
Based on your traits you prefer devices such as the iPhone 5c,Nexus 4,Nexus 5,Nexus 7,Oppo Find 5,Galaxy S4
Based on my traits i prefer that brushed aluminium such as iPhone 5,HTC One
Samsung would be my first choice. No HTC plz..

If you look at the leaked photos, and the specs, the m8 must be tall as hell. 5 inch screen, huge HTC bar under the nav bar that looks thicker then navbar itself, and the dual speakers. That's my only gripe thus far, plus aluminum is slippery. Add that with massively tall phone, one handed use may become quite difficult. We shall see.
As for OP topic, lg has done a good job and wouldn't mind seeing another. Moto would be cool though. In reality it really doesn't matter much to me, most all nexus phones have looked and run pretty damn good in there time regardless of the OEM.

This make sense, thats why Google sold it to them. For android to spread into China for the mass market. A way to compete with Apple while they just signed a contract with one of the biggest carrier there.

ibtimes is not an accurate source as it claims to be. Plus their website is a peice of sh*T it plays video ads with audio without you interacting with the ad.
Until some legit source cites this such as Android Authority or The Verge we don't know yet for all we know it may not be called the nexus 6
I thought the numeric designation of the Nexus line refers to the screen size.

Not necessary. Look at the Nexus 7 1st Gen then they released another Nexus 7 2nd gen or (2013)
a hardware revision doesn't mean a number bump up. they decided to name it nexus 7 2nd gen so people wont get confused with a Nexus 8 that's 8 Inches
Nexus 5 would prob be called Nexus 5 2nd gen or (2014) or so, unless they license the name Nexus 6

Haha sorry. I probably typed it up too fast.
there have been other devices with a pure android experience besides the sgs4, and there will be others. that doesnt make them a nexus. a nexus is a nexus, there will be more, the nexus 4 isnt the last one.
It might end up being one of the last.. Maybe one more. Now that there are two top notch phones with pure android I'd be hard pressed to buy another nexus. Probably going to grab the HTC this summer. I only really wanted nexus for the pure android experience, and now there's two better phones with the same thing.

I won't really care much if it's the latest and "Nexus Experience" phones take it's place. (as long the updates and stock software behave like a Nexus)
All Nexuses had issues with specs when compared to their competition after all.
(N1/Desire (lack multitouch screen), NS/GS (lack SD Card), GN/GSII (camera downgrade), N4/OG (yet another camera downgrade, no LTE))
This make me wonder what Google is thinking.
The only thing I will miss is the sleek no-logo front.

5. HTC ONE AND S4 Google edition.
Just wondering who is trading their nexus 4 for what phone and for what purposes?

I will never buy another phone that isn't in the Nexus line as long as Nexus is being made. I came from the iPhone 4 to the Nexus 4 with zero experience in any Nexus device, or even Android in general, and I can tell you that pure Android is the best Android. I have a bunch of friends who hate Android solely because they bought a low-end phone that was running an outdated version of Android and had low specs.
"Yeah, but you should buy those Google Edition phones! They're so good and still show off pure Android!"
Yes, but at the same time, no. It's what AOSP 'should' look like, but it isn't truly AOSP. The OEMs still have to input their proprietary drivers/kernels to make it compatible with that hardware, so it's still customized. Android is developed for the latest Nexus device, and Nexus is made to show off the latest Android. I will sincerely buy every Nexus device that will ever be made because it is so open (and cheap). The freedom granted to OEMs, or end-users, is ridiculous. One line of code to unlock the bootloader? For real? Why WOULDN'T you buy Nexus? Come on.

Historically, not all nexii are as cheap as the N4. Just ask galaxy nexus, nexus s, nexus one and google one owners who bought devices from play. They paid an arm for their devices!! I could flash Cyanogenmod and be good to go. I mean I had the EOL idea too but now I'm rethinking it. And to think what goodies may come in the fall. The Galaxy S4 LTE-A with a 2.3ghz processor.... It seems Google has been so on point with nexus 4 and new nexus 7 plus all the updated apps I truly don't understand the point of the moto x. I mean at 200 on contract why would anyone buy this phone. Even though Google doesn't make the nexus why compete against yourself.
I have a feeling the nexus phone might either go away or not even be anything major this year. Its almost November what new processor would go in it. I am thinking this year the nexus 5 will be made by HTC and cost a lot more.
For some reason I like the material for the new nexus 7 and would like that as the back of the next nexus.

I mean, are they serious? Do they really think this is in the same league as the Galaxy S4 or iPhone 5 available at the same price?
I'm worried about a Nexus 5 now too. Cannibalize sales with a Nexus device or price the next Nexus way higher. Only the former is appealing to me and I'm sure it's not to Google.
I think the moto x is going to be a Microsoft kin type of failure. Is there some hidden features I am missing? HTC one, s4, new iPhone and even the nexus 4 are all better and same price. Why release all these versions like who cares for a dev edition x. I was thinking this phone would be free on contract and that would be the selling point.
Highly doubt a new nexus happening this year. I see Google just making the dev phones now.

Nexus 5 will be made by LG and so the Moto X does not have any bearing on it, or the Nexus program until such time that Motorola becomes a Nexus manufacturer.
This is just Moto still sucking. Not as terrible as before, but still bad.
Google needs to just take full reins of Motorola and turn them into a pure hardware arm of Google and not try to please everyone and end up pleasing no one.

Since the Nexus 4 is rather faulty imo (both H/W rev. 10 & rev. 11) - bad battery performance, getting abnormally warm during normal use (hate it), poor software optimization etc, I doubt that Google will keep rolling the nexus project along with LG. Samsung were fine partners.

You never had a HTC One X? This gets way hotter than the Nexus 4.
Plus Nexus 4 back is made of glass, which is the reason you feel the heat more. All other phone such as HTC One and Samsung S4 has the same problem. This is due to the Snapdragon chip, not because of LG.
why not in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2021559]
After owning a HTC One and moving to the Galaxy S4, I went back to the beautiful White Nexus 4. The feel in the hand of the nexus 4 is superior to any phone I have owned even though it has some lower specs
not worried here, Moto X is aimed to completely different kind of users, Nexus is aimed more for developers and Android Fans, Moto X has a locked bootloader and will be distributed via carriers. I think that the challenge is for Samsung or HTC which sells devices in similar conditions (not to mention apple). I Also think it depends of the kind of user you are.

Completely agree. Although i own both HTC One and Nexus 4, i find myself using my Nexus 4 more than my HTC One.And if Google was to make it their last project, they may as well go out with a bang! I'm talking Sony Xperia Z water proof body, Nokia's 41MP with 6 or 7 (i dont know how many they have now lol) elements camera lens, and full AOSP OS = my dream phone.

Everyone something new comes out everyone starts complaining. So what that the moto x is running near stock with some cool features. So what that battery life is supposedly improved. So what that the camera is far superior. So what that Motorolas radios are usually really good. So what that benchmarks are on par with stock Nexus 4. So what that there will be a 32 GB Model. All the things that everyone complains about with the Nexus 4 is improved upon with the moto x. I love my Nexus 4. But I'm really tempted to get the developer addition depending on the cost. My concern is that asop based roms will not have all the features working since I'm sure all the teams are closed source

I find it amusing that the author called the GPE GS4 higher end than the N5. There is nothing about the GS4 that's higher end.

Unsubstantiated info! The Nexus has a lifetime warranty!

Phonearena did say that guy's source has been reliable over the past years. So who knows? It does kinda makes sense though, but we the proud fanboys just don't want to hear this happen :fingers-crossed:
Maybe because google didn't find a solution for a new name after the nexus 6, since nexus 7 already exists

Nexus 7P(hone)
I cant see them doing it. Even though the Nexus 5 battery is horrid i love the phone. But yea after Nexus 6 what will call the next one
I read this earlier and was going to post something. I am hoping that Google is only considering this from a marketing/ flawed naming convention in there product name. But this isn't the first time Google has had naming convention/version issues. Just look at jelly bean and how it literally encompasses 3 versions of android. So let's hope they will still keep building a flagship device to symbolize what android should represent and not abandon this line all together.

The Moto G GPE is cheaper than any Nexus phone has ever been. My guess is this may be Google's way of making Motorola the default developer of Nexus devices by just calling their phone a GPE. And Motorola/Google is focused on having affordable phones so I don't see the price as being an issue. So maybe in 2016 we have 5-6 different GPE phones from different manufacturers and the Motorola one will basically replace the "Nexus" phone. At the end of the day it will not really matter other than the Nexus name being gone.

Do we really need another Nexus 4/5 naming discussion? The Nexus 7 and 10 were named after their size. The Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 could easily have been too (we will likely never know). Naming is not an issue.

I was thinking that they might go back to adopting the OEMs phone brands again like they did for the galaxy nexus. So if Sony was next they could do like a "xperia nexus". Not the most catching name but it works. Although more than likely people will still go by numbers to identify it

Well.. is expect that Motorola will handle the nexus line if it stays.
By the way, the writer lost me at 'if there companies can push out software updates in a timely manner, there would be no reason to have a redundant nexus line'
Derp
First, waiting for updates on carrier laden releases can take forever.
Second, not everyone wants bloated versions of Android.

Hats off to google if they are planning to stop this series of Nexus phones.
Nexus series though cheap, google has no direct control. With Motorola already in their arsenal and also creating good phones like to moto x and moto g, I am sure all new Google phones should and would be from Motorola.
Though they have signed a long term contract with Samsung, I am sure it won't be for the phones but for other tech like the glass could be mass produced and probably Google is also planning to launch something like the Galaxy Gear and hence this collaboration.
Hope all goes well and we see latest tech with the Google Moto combo.
Even if the rumor is true, it doesn't mean they're going to stop selling affordable devices running vanilla Android. It probably just means they're going to drop the Nexus brand and sell the devices as Motorola.

Not true. The s4 has a very very similar CPU... Better camera... Better build quality (the s4 doesn't have a defects or RMA thread... Nexus has multiple). The only downfall to the s4 is touchwiz. @broodplank1337 has an aosp 4.4.2 ROM that runs just as good on the s4 as KK does on our nexus.
The reason I don't like this is cuz I ran GPE Roms on my S4 and they still used a lot of touchwiz framework. If they do this, and remove carrier ui framework all together, and release true aosp on these high end devices, I'm all aboard. Nexus' are cheaply built and they take shortcuts to get a bargain phone. Everyone should want the best. If it costs too much, then you can get a new job or save money.

Not really relevant. Many phones don't. The S3 didnt either, yet it had plenty of defects. It all depends if someone makes a thread or not.
The s4 was flagship though and the nexus is not high end. Its budget performance. But the S4 is older and can't keep up the performance.

This is really interesting but one cannot believe this completely. Someone could have replaced the code and anyone would believe it.
But let's hope it is what we see? Nice find. If this thread becomes a discussion. I can already see the threads future.

I highly believe in this thread being correct about the Nexus 6 and 8. All signs have pointed to it for a while now. If we're to believe the Android Silver news then these will be the last "Nexus" devices.

It died when they mentioned they partnered up with Cyanogenmod. As much as we love what CM has done for the community it's not what it used to be.

Yes, that bothered me too. What killed it for me though was all the stupid hype. I snapped when they touted the fact the their phone was the first phone with right side mounted stereo speakers. Who the hell brags about such an asinine feature... lol

I disagree. Although CM isn't my choice and I never run it on any of my devices, we all know how much easier it is to develop for a device that is also supported by Cyanogenmod. This makes it an interesting prospect for me and other people who are into ROMs etc. Trying to get that first pure AOSP build is going to be much easier, providing the fundamentals CM use are open sourced / blobbed etc

Yes, Cyanogenmod isn't what it used to be, but don't you think it is better than atleast touchwiz/xperia/sense ? OPPO have a ****ty ColorOS(tried N1 and it didn't have the performance N5 have). I'm sure with cyanogenmod, this is the best we can have.
I heard a lot of people saying the Nexus 8 might be an HTC tablet.

Yes, it is assumed that is what the device called htc/flounder in AOSP is referring to. At this point it is more than a rumor.
Will be interested to see what Google has up their sleeves for the rumored final Nexus phone, and what it will be called (isn't Nexus 6 copywrited?). I'd love to see a smaller footprint device, with a 5" screen, like what you would see if the Moto X had a 5" screen. The device would probably be Galaxy Nexus sized.
If OnePlus makes a smaller phone, I'll probably start going with those (assuming Google stops the Nexus line, and no longer offers subsidized phones), since the support should be incredible, and the price would be right where we would expect a Nexus device to be.

I hope that OnePlus succeeds, I've read articles about how they can't even provide phones or accessories to the 100 contest winners. Some got an empty box, while others got the phone wrapped up in bubble wrap without anything else...
It does seem that the OnePlus One hype has died down and fast. Maybe this was proof that super cheap flagship phones cannot be done reliability.

Only one person got an empty box, and that was because it was stolen by an employee of the shipping company. OnePlus swiftly turned another phone around for him.
Source: Android Authority
As for the bubble wrap and no accessories:
As much as we would have preferred one of our first Smash the Past winners to have shared the unboxing of the One with everybody, we didn't have the boxes and accessories ready at the time we had to ship the phones to our warehouses in Europe and the US to be right on schedule. Since we didn't want our fans to wait any longer, we notified all our 100 smashers that they would receive the entire package later this month.
