[Q] N1 Weird Build # & StarterSteps - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Somenone just gave me a Nexus One (PB99100 / Microp-0c15 / Radio-5.12.00.00 / Hboot-0.35.0017) that has never been flashed or anything, almost brand new (Android 2.3.4 / Baseband 32.50.00.32U_5.12.00.08 / Kernel 2.6.35.7-ge0fb012 / Build 3.11.405.2 CL81940).
Just noticed the weird OS build number compared to other similar phones I saw and I was wondering that the hell was that. Stuck and version 2.3.4 and kind of stinks.
My other question is, can I just follow the Blackrose installation without worries? Cause I see lots of replies on that thread but not too much mention on radios and models that apply, also I guess most of the users have the AT&T version. Kind of confusing for me.
If someone can post here a very high lvl detail of steps to follow, or recommendations on what/how to install I'll be very grateful.
Thanks in advance.
I have already configured all tools and drivers on my pc, and they are working as expected.

you have all the pre requisites met for blackrose. you can proceed with that. read the OP and videos carefully n be very sure of wat u doing, before installing blackrose.
you are good to go

Cool, looks like you have the SLCD variant, flash HBOOTs with caution.

[Q] rooting

Hello all,
I've been reading and downloading from xda for over a year now (sgs- darky's rom mainly), and this is my FIRST POST!
I know i can find my answer just by looking but i really wanted to post for the first time so here's my question- My tab is in the post (got it from ebay as i'm a pauper and can't afford it new, or the 8.9 or 10.1) and obviously want to root it straight away. I've seen that some are using z4 root but my sgs won't accept this method, can i be sure it'll work?
take care fellow "tabbers"
PS the doorbell just rang and it's here! *wets pants and logs off*

baseband P1000XXJK5
KERNEL 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
PDA- P1000XWJJ7
PHONE- P1000XXJK5
CSC- P1000CPWJJ5
I need to get gingerbread (at least) on this thing straight away! Or any cool roms you can recommend?
How do i find out if it's GSM or CDMA? i'm in the UK... That is probably a really stupid question, but i'm a stupid guy... A stupid guy who loves android and wants to learn more!
Any links to the right places would be really appreciated
First you're not stupid. You're just new and learning.
Second your tab judging by its firmware is gsm european tab.
Third you can root using superoneclick root.
Fourth. Head to the development section and you will find alot of great roms (or click on my sig if you're interested in overcome). JUST BE SURE TO READ ENTIRE GUIDES AND STUDY THEM BEFORE FLASHING ANYTHING.

So many people get themselves into trouble by not reading instructions or skipping ahead.
Easy to get yourself into trouble, can be VERY hard getting out...
Thank you for all the help, most kind I'm at work now so will try some bits tomorrow, managed to get rooted before leaving tho

Your tab is rooted already. Look at the kernal version. In your apps you will see something called Superuser. Tap it. If its there and opens you are rooted.

That's what really confused me, the kernel said root on it, but no super user was there and none of my purchased root apps could aquire root.... so I used super one click as advised and hey presto! Still confused as to why it said that on my kernel tho...

Someone tried to return the tab to stock. The busybox was probably there too. Anyway, you are good now. What's next?

Just out of interest as i'm un-learned, how can you tell if the bootloader is signed? (As far as I can tell) it hasn't affected the rom installation... could it?
Thanks all for the support!

Update on advice
Hi thanks for posting advice.
I've managed to unlock the phone by using a combination of
Rooting it with Unlock Root via pc
That gave me Superuser (upgraded to pro for £2)
BusyBox Free, Titanium backup Free needed also
Then I was able to use Galaxy S Unlock to save files to sdcard and unlock to any network.:victory:
Now does this mean I'm rooted and don't have to follow all the steps that the link above advices
no need if already got busybox installed

Thanks for comments, can I ask now its rooted do I need to install anything else to allow me to change the Rom's such as newer official ones or once others are raving about.
Thanks.
updating or changing ROM was easy method but deadly also, wrong move will come to brick fone. if u really hav thought it well, juz follow any instruction on xda regarding i9000 after confirming ur device version, backed up baseband, build number n etc involve.
n now u ll need cwm for flashing. find cwm to gain access to recovery n thats where u gonna flash ur custom ROM, but read a lot before doing it as here in Q & A section, many success, also failure posted here, so be sure to read first mate

Congratulations on accomplishing your unlock. Now you might be helped with a good, rich toolbox and clear guides
I'm referring you to some wonderful threads I've come across during similar quests of my own.
(It's all there; but asking the right questions and not seeing the wood for the trees will always remain tricky )
So here are my top three suggestions for your toolbox, in order of importance and relevance. You might find some overlap among them.

As to what ROM to choose, I seriously like to push my own (eventual) ROM of choice, Mackay ROM (Unless gaming on the phone is your thing, which might bring up desires and demands that other ROMs serve even better.)
Good luck!

[Q] Messed up signal strength/WCX recovery?

Hello everyone, and thank you for taking time out of your day to read this message.
HTC Vivid (Holiday?)
Android Version: 4.0.3
HTC Sense: 3.6
Kernel: 3.0.16
(If I need to include anything else, please let me know.)
So basically here's what I've done:
1) I've unlocked bootloader with HTC Dev
2) I've used Fastboot Command with WCXRecovery.img
I used a guide that I found somewhere on the internet, which I cannot find now. (Will look for it if necessary for addressing the issue.)
I would have used the All-in-One toolkit, but for some reason I couldn't get it to work (I'm pretty good at being a noob.)
In the guide, I used a Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed but the guide had said to use a su-bin-3.3.0.2-efghi-signed.zip because it just wouldn't work properly
I feel like I should have read more upon doing this.
The problems are: Bad signal, especially when I first did all of this.
When I start up bootloader it states: PH39DIAG.zip image not found, it says this for about 5 lines.
Other than that, the phone runs fine. Any help would be appreciated as I have many questions that I cannot find the answers for.

The 5 lines that occur when you boot into the bootloader are normal. It is checking for files. This feature can be later used when going back to stock. The bad signal maybe just a coincidence try flashing a new rom if you want to. Download the files from the superguide to gain root.

Thank you
The signal is fine. After a couple of hours it went back to normal
I was worried for a moment there.
I have a few questions...
How beneficial is S-OFF?
_
I would like to use the "[ROM][4.1.2][WEEKLY] Official CyanogenMod 10" ROM
With my current setup:
Android Version : 4.0.3
HTC Sense : 3.6
Kernel Version: 3.0.16
Would it be possible to just use that ROM without doing anything else?
I'm currently on S-ON.
_
Last question (I promise.) Would I be able to use any Kernel with that ROM?
Again thank you for your time & patience.
Peace.

What is beneficial about s-off you say. Well first of all you can flash as many roms as you please without having to be near a computer. Also with s-off you can return back to stock using any ruu. You can manipulate the information on the bootloader screen to make it seem like you did nothing for warranty purposes. You can use almost all the roms for this phone without s-off including the one you mentioned. I have onto seen one s-off needed rom still. Most of the kernel will work with the rom you mentioned but do your research before doing so. Also read the stickies into the devolpment section. Might been the most useful 30 mins wasted in your life.

[Q] htc one root to google editon noob

Hello,
I have an htc one from o2. I want to root it to google edition. Iam a noob at this so can someone show me the way or links to a tutorial please.
Is it worth doing? whats the advantages of a rooted phone? sorry for the questions but i have come from iphone to android so iam new to all this.
thanks
My advice is keep studying, install the sdk and get good at adb and comfortable! Once you're ready and able use a guide for your phone and read it a couple times before you start. Most importantly don't stop any operations you attempt in mid stream follow through and don't reboot until you know it's all good. Hope it's as fun for you as it was for me.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
thanks for that, but that means nothing to me.Whats the advantages etc. Is it worth it. i can follow tutorials etc. just need to know what the best guide is etc
If you don't know what the advantages of a rooted phone are and what root means, why are you trying to do it? To be honest I don't even understand your post - do you want to root your rom, have a rooted google edition rom or fully convert to a google edition phone?
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
sorry for the confusion. Like i say im new to this.
I dont know the difference, i know rooting that you can put custom roms on it, but whats the difference and best, do fully make it google edition or put a custom rom on?

First off, you don't need to be rooted to flash a custom rom - all you need is a custom recovery after you unlock your bootloader. A good guide for noobs to read is the one by mike1986 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618
If I were you, I'd stick to just flashing a google edition rom to see if you like it, rather than doing a full conversion. This way you can easily get back to stock. This rom is 4.3 Google edition and already rooted:

Read the guide above carefully though. Especially the parts about backing up stock, or you'll be back here later asking for help..

[Q] Hello people! Little help would be thankful

Yes, I need a guide. I used SGH-I337 (AT&T Galaxy S4) with Foxhound ROM and got a new HTC One. Since everything is so different, I need help. I looked around this forum for two days but I still can't understand the anything. I got this T-mobile HTC One 4.4.2 and the phone is basically pure stock. I have no idea about anything, so i'd like to get a straight, step-by-step guide to flash Venom One 4.4.2 ROM. I went to T-mobile HTC One forum, but there weren't so much activities and i ended up asking for help here. Also, an unbrick method will be very helpful just in case. If someone could help me step by step, it will be very thankful. I don't mean to bother people by not reading and asking first, but it is so hard for me to understand.

Read here first mate: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45432325&postcount=2
Basically 3 steps to flashing custom roms...
1. Unlock Bootloader
2. Install Custom Recovery (I use TWRP)
3. Flash Custom Rom.
How to do all these things are covered in the guides I've linked above.
Much better to read two or three times then stuff up and end up with a handsome paper weight.
Good luck.
I'll just add my 2 cents
Make a nandroid backup of your phone before flashing a custom rom. Also make a copy of that backup on your computer in case you wipe your phone.
Use at least TWRP 2.6.3.3 for 4.4 and higher roms.
Another question. Is there a Cyanogenmod installer for 4.4.2?
I saw a one click kinda cyanogenmod installer that automatically unlocks bootloadr and installs cyanogenmod.

It's not going to unlock the bootloader of this phone. You need to do that using HTCdev.com. See the previous links.
