use root uninstaller or titanium backup to freeze anything you don't want or uninstall after backup

My mom has a captivate running stock android 2.1.
I only enabled lagfix on her phone and nothing else.
After the official froyo came out I was thinking about updating it.
I have a few questions about it. Please answer as many as you can...
1. Will all apps disappear?
2. If yes for #1 do I need to get titanium backup?
3. Do I disable lagfix?
Please help.. thank you

Here's your answer, search the forums. You will find it.
1. All apps will dissapear! Be warned
2. You should use titanium backup thats a good idea but the kb1 must be rooted and sideloading enable to get them all back (use super one click) also put the titanium backup folder on external sd or on computer just in case
3. YES DISABLE THE LAGFIX VERY IMPORTANT

Thanks for the reply!. Would have caused a great trouble if I didn't question this...
Anyway just wondering, if I just had the captivate and did not know anything about root/flash/etc I would have just updated and gotten everything deleted right?
Did Samsung mention the fact that all my apps would have disappeared?. I just think its unfair to some people....

With normal android devices this would not have been an issue as the apps reinstall when you light into your Google account but that feature is missing from the Galaxy line

Yea, you should take all the important folders off your internal sd card like the titanium backup folder and put them spmewhere on you computer, that's what I did and once I updated I got all my files back, I still needed to root/enable sideloading to get my apps from TiBu back
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yes, it would have gotten deleted even if you hadn't upgraded to the ji6 build of froyo

Is that true? Now it makes sense why nothing seems to happen when I go to a new rom.
No clue... Probably a comp or browser

I bought one samsung captivate SGH-I897, But after i got it i looked on it and found there is no option to install out of market apps. Everytime.i try to install somthing from outside market it says " for security, your phone is set to block installation of applications not obtained from android market".
I somehow manage to root to using oneclick root but still there is no option to install outside apps and it stil says same thing.
Please help, i want to unlock it use on my tmobile too.

You have to enable non-market apps using Odin,
Or install a rom to your phone like continumm this will automaticly allow non market apps

On the oneclickroot program there's an option to " allow non market apps" to unlock your phone you'll need to SEARCH xda or Google/xda on the one click unlocker for captivate. Some captivates it works others are to new. + galaxy s unlocker in the market has proven to work for some.

There was a option for that and i clicked yes but still its not done.
If u spend like 20 minutes (if even that) searching for this topic/issue, you will find your answer. Try it out.

Hello friends!
I updated my cell from froyo to Gingerbread as then restored all my apps with help of Titanium backup pro. Problem is that now all my apps some how got unlinked with the Market and when I go to my apps in Market, none of my apps are shown in the list. Because of this I dont come to know if there are any updates available for any of my installed apps.
Is there any way to link them back with Market without installing them all over again.
Thankyou.

Try going to settings>application>manage applications and clearing data/cache or whatever it lets you clear of the market app.
Go to titanium backup>options> more>market doctor.. Since you are on pro titanium backup you can use market doctor..

@EPHRAIM033 Does that mean I can link a app downloaded via .apk to the market? And, yes, the app is also in the market..Can I do it or no?
this worked only once.. later again those apps lost the links i think.. they are not appearing in 'my apps' on market!!!!!!!!!

what worked for me was to re download the app from the market on wifi. it will error out with the message already installed then will show up as installed in google play.
An easy way of pushing the apps to the phone is to log onto googleplay web site reselect the app and select install.

Of course you can. But if the linked app is a cracked paid one(ore a free app from an other market eg getjar wich is free there) the market will show it in my apps but it won't let you update it... If the app is avaiable for free in the market and you donwloaded it else where there are no problems with linking and updating it..(and no i dont have illegal apps i know it cause the "gold apps" from getjar are not updatable after linking them to the market, it'll show you a message that you didn't purchase the app..)
Found this karoges app by cloudnine in the market under my installed apps and there's no uninstall option nor can I find it I will titanium. Running stock rooted kl7 wondering if anyone else has seen this???

Well... i searched for that app in market but i couldn't find such app named "KAROGES"
Looks strange, but as you are root, you should kill the app+file+task.
Wouldn't be the first time there is malware in the market.

I ran into that problem today also.! Like Conqueror_1 had said, it is a link to a standard video player and it might be harmless... I'm not one to find out.! If your rooted you can delete it from your system... After using everything I could to un-install and could not find it (so irritating) I used my root explorer I found the app that linking us to that video thingy... it was in my system/app and it would be your videoplayer.apk... I just deleted the apk and rebooted my phone, now gone... I hope this helps.!
Step 1: Hit the "Report" button
Step 2: Delete it using Root Explorer/AntTek/Titanium
Step 3: There's no step 3
Hi there. After deleting the clock app from my note I have been sent the apk again to reinstall. However aftrr pushing file into system/app i cannot get it to install and it does not show up in app drawer. I have permissions set at RW R R but still nothing.

Bit more info on this. I am on LQ2 with Root and standard kernel.
Only thing i havent done that I can think of is to simply reload LQ2 and start again but this seems a bit much for the sake of an alarm clock. I have installed a basic clock from market but i much predfered the stock clock.

Haven't you got a backup which includes the clock? Always do backups with titanium backup before removing system apps.
In case you got titanium backup pm me your email address and I will send you my backup of the clock. I think this is the simplest way.

Did you reboot after pushing the apk and setting permissions? It has to be done for changes to take effect.
Yeah rebooted and cleared davlik cache as well.
I think the problem might be that there is still parts of the alarm or clock app left in the the registry or system/app folder but I cant find them. For time being i downloaded a copy of the Clock app from tge Nexus and it works fine.

Sending you titanium backup of clock, place it to titanium backup folder and restore it.
Check PM after some time.

Ok so tried to do a backup and titanium says its reinstalling app but just stays at that sort of buffering circle for as long as i care to leave the phone to run. In titanium the backup shows being available for backup with the smiley face etc. I can see titanium getting su access etc as well but just not reinstalling.
Might need to admit defeat lol.
