this Q is for the developers who work so hard to keep this phone alive....
Our phone yet doesnot have working JB (project butter not working..i have seen nAa's post about it)..you think it can support key lime pie with its full features?
Thread cleaned, just give a normal answer, else don't post anything.
Next time infractions will be hand out!
@OP
maybe if it's andoid 4.2 (nothing but improvements over jelly bean). if, however, it is 5.0 then it'll be hard to get it working.
hope you understand.

Since Sony released nothing really and the lack of some hardware it will never have true Jelly Bean. This is the same for updates beyond that.
So no full key lime pie experience. But there might be a close-to-KLP experience. Just wait and see.

Agreed.
If KLM turns out to be 5.0, then i seriously doubt our phones can handle it. But if it's the same as jb is to ics, then it's possible that we can have a "limited" version of it. Pretty much like the jb roms we have now.

4.2 is supposed to be a minor update to Jellybean, sources say. So im guessing KLP wont be anytime soon.

KLP is to come by end of october some say with the new nexus series
We don't know nothing about KLP yet. What we have heard are just rumors, most of them proved to be a hoax. Who knows, maybe it is really a small upgrade to Jelly Bean, but, as we have seen, with every Android update, our phone is getting more and more "vulnerable".
Explain?
Why does it get more vulnerable?

Right... Not the best word I've picked.
What I mean is that every new Android version requires more resources and/or better phone specs than the other. Our device is getting older and older by the day. We can't expect it to run every new Android version perfectly so we shouldn't keep our hopes high. It's a 2010 phone for God's sake

Hi guys
I just wondering when android will stop support our phones.
I love my phone and i hate that there is no official newer version of android. I mean 4.x ver.
So what do you think ?
Sent from my GT-I9001 using Tapatalk 2
Well it depends how much resources future android versions take up. The main bottleneck for this phone is the slow storage chip and 512MB of RAM, which will prove hard to overcome if future android versions ask for even more from these 2 compartments. Jelly bean is already making the sgs1 crap itself out from time to time, but these issues will hopefully resolve over time, given the amazing work the devs over here have done in ICS.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
If you mean official support, there's none already.
Samsung did a really bad job, both in the extreme delays in the updates it released and in stopping updates at gingerbread (already 2 versions behind current development).
Google could have helped by directly supporting the i9000, since it's so similar to the nexus s.
But unfortunately, they didn't.
A shame, since this is THE device that took android to the next level.
Fortunately, there's the great work by teamhacksung and cm to keep up with current development.

I wouldn't be so sure, I just came from the xperia x8. We stopped getting support at 2.1 yet we still have almost bugless ICS ROMs (minus h/w decoding) plus two cm10 ROMs have just been released. All that from a 600Mhz phone with only 190mb usable RAM.
I haven't had any problems so far with jb. Everything's fast and smooth with very little lag which was only when running multiple Gameloft games.

Technically, jelly bean also was too resource hungry for our phones, but the devs managed to do various workarounds.
So it doesn't necessarily mean that the next android version cannot be shoe horned onto our phones.

Not that most people here are really bothered since you use the custom ROMs, but now this means there will be an official Jelly Bean template to make a sweet CM JB ROM off of.
Hopefully they won't cancel the upgrade.

Agreed. They might keep their promise, but most likely release 4.1 long after 4.2 is already out.
IMO they need to quit bowing to the carriers. Make their handsets according to the original principles of the Open Handset Alliance - fully open source, fully unlocked. If the carriers don't like it, tough, let them make their own damn locked phones. After enough consumers get burned by the lock-in, they'll all start choosing unlocked phones.

I ordered already other device, not sure if I'll 100% move to it, but I plan to get rid of moto after that happened with my previous device motorola photon. I couldn't wait more and decided to try droid 4. After this politics I plan to go out of moto once I'll find good device. Hope, that found already.
I'm posting this from a D4 on Jellybeans but I'm still glad to hear this. I think it will go a long way towards making people feel they can trust Motorola again, which as we can see from a few other posts here many people do not.
The real question in my mind is, what will come first, the DROID 5 or the official JB upgrade? What I want to see are updates the drop shortly after AOSP does, not a year later...

I'm pretty sure this article was labeled as untrue rumor. Android 4.2.2 won't be a the next codename of android. I'm pretty sure we will be getting JB 4.1 since that's what Moto promised to us earlier this year. Honestly, I don't think any devices with less than 2GB will get Android 4.2 other than stock Android devices.
It's been a good run the the D4, I'm pretty happy with CM10 on here right now, much less bloated! I just miss the power off animation (CRT)...

O rly? Other manufacturers already updated their newest devices... It seems that Sony keeps their level. Late upgrades, welcome again!
Great news, but dont forget that if you have a branded phone it be more like april or may than february or march.
But as soon as those first generic updates hit the servers I am sure we will be uploading them here for everyone to enjoy!
EDIT
Q1 2013 for JB was the earliest date always for xperia T, so its not really late..very nearly early actually
Couldn't a branded phone just flash a JB. ftf on release?

Thats why you all should help the aosp teams as much as possible so you dont have to wait for a company to roll out updates when they feel like it.. ie a year late.
4.2 is nothing, seriously.
4.1 is a huge thing. As long Sony gets us to 4.1 im happy. Other than 5.0 i dont know. Cause 4.2 doesnt offer much features when companies like samsung, sony, etc.. applies their own skin/features on top of it, it pretty much does the same thing as 4.2. except for lockscreen, updates for google now.
to me, it just seems lile Google is running out of ideas.
To me it seems that Sony releases way too many models.
I would love if they could cut down on the hysterical mass of releases and focus on a fewer amount of models, but I guess thats just a wish. After all, they won't make any money from releasing the latest android update to all their older phones, but by selling new ones.
It's a bit wierd that they couldn't release the Xperia T/TX/V with 4.1 to begin with. 4.1 isn't that new any longer.
My old Xperia Arc was absolutely awesome with CM10, like a new phone. I could just imagine how great my Xperia V would run with 4.1/4.2!

I've asked, given ideas, and shared my thoughts but it seems a lot of people here think the bootloader is almost impossible to unlock that we've settled for suped up stock roms. (I'm a TL user)
Even Sony is known for slow OS updates, I still prefer their very nice-looking phone over a higher-spec ugly phone LOL(looking at you Samsung). And on-screen buttons FTW.
But of course, all boils down to personal preference.
And btw, my TX screen display is gorgeous especially when compared side by side to my Nexus 4, when looking at the same image files I put on both. Only positive to N4 is fast update(therefore more fancy goodies), other than that, TX beats it.

The development life cycle for something as complicated as our phone is quite long. Generally the hardware gets a first run design and then the firmware guys get going on the initial prototypes. They'll use the latest base-OS version they can (normally) but don't underestimate the amount of work it is to move from one Android version to another. They won't have infinite resources!
Agree, of course. Yet I feel compelled to mention, that the korean gigant has 4.1 out since a while for devices released not that long before ours. Well, the T at least.
So while your statement still applies, relatively, Sony is describeable as slow.

They can't because of the regions. They could do that for the US, for example, but aside that Sony has got a LOT of different customizations to prepare, and it's completely impossible to do all of them at the same time.

So your assumption is that Sony's takeover will eradicate the existing update rollout issues? I'm afraid that is quite naive. I owned the Xperia S prior to this device, which was a "Sony" device, and watched the upgrade take six months to complete and some regions still don't have 4.0.4.

"Should" is the right word here. 4.2 has been out for a long time, so it is very strange to release anything but 4.2 now in 2013.
Also some media (or Sony themselves) have said there's very little theming/customisation on the phone, so updates should be fast.
Again I still don't see how "fast" updates can come when it's not even released with the latest software.

Yes, no worries, I understood that. I also tried to say: I too think they should release it with 4.2
Also looking at their pre production phone, their software looks pretty bad, so I don't think it would matter with "buggy" 4.2 or the base they've been developing it on. Atm their base looks bad, so either they fix it in two months, or they rebase it om 4.2
The thing is that: this is their flagship phone, 4.2 has been out for a while, 2 months is still a long time, they have a lot of Sony devs, so I still don't see how releasing a flagship in 2013 with dated android is a wise choice.
This seems to be their standard though: dated android. They did this with the x10 or whatever it was called, and i won't be surprised if they do it again now. But hopefully the new management is improved and we'll se updates in timely matter. Also if they keep the community support up, it won't matter since it will have dev support

XDA named Sony "2012 OEM of the year" for a reason, and that means a lot to me.
They are changing, listening, officialy unlocking bootloaders, sticking to their update pathway, helping the devs community a lot, etc.
I believe the release of 4.1.2 is a marketing strategy.
Releasing 4.1.2 as initial firmware core and updating it to 4.2 then the next generation of android would make it look like they'll be providing subsequent updates. While if they release 4.2 as an initial firmware and update it to next android soon that would only look like they provided a single update which would invoke another rant from users like
"Sony promised 18months of support yet they only released 1 OS update!!!"
"Sony only released 1 update on their flagship phone they just release a device and loses interest on it after sales."
So yeah... if they make the initial OS 4.1.2 then that would make it 2 major updates while if they release 4.2 as initial OS that would only make 1 major update.
Like the logic says... Any number greater than 1 = many.

The phone would have been in testing prior to 4.2's release... so early internal builds would have been based on 4.1.x anyway - so I can see why it's launching with 4.1. They would want to be on the ball with the 4.2 launch,,,, if it gets pushed back then people looking at buying this phone 3-6 months after launch are going to be wary about future updates.

Why strange? Show me an example of another device other than a Nexus launching with 4.2 in the same timeframe?
Show me an example of a device other than a Nexus or the Transformer tablets getting ICS prior to March or so of 2012? Show me an example of one that got an update prior to April/May or so that wasn't an *utter epic steaming turd*? All of the Transformer tablets first ICS updates were poor, Galaxy S II ICS was a steaming pile of **** for months... Hell, if you've got a carrier branded device it STILL is...
Not to mention 4.2 is one of the more buggy releases from Google, are there any devices apart from Nexus devices officially running 4.2 yet?

IF 4.3 comes out then I guess we will get it before 5.0.

I think I wrote my post wrong.
AFAIK, only a part (not a good one) is sent to SOME companies (the biggest ones). The smaller ones don't get it so soon.
Seeming Sony is an AOSP partner I have no doubts their are People at Sony right now who know about 4.3, I highly doubt Google keeps their manufacturers in the dark until the launch day causing all OEMS to play catch up
It's been confirmed before that Sony is one of the key partners already working on the 'next' platform. They contribute a huge amount to Android compared to all the other manufacturers and it's going to give them the competitive edge some day.
I don't think so. Sony said that 4.2 update should be released soon after the phone's release, that means they must have been working on it for quite a while now. They won't just scrap their work and wait few months before 4.3/5.0 sources are released to start working again.
I think we'll get both of them, 4.2 in may/june and 4.3/5.0 probably 3-6 months after release - and let's hope it won't be wishful thinking.
I'd rather get 4.2 in a month or so than getting an hypothetical 4.3 in a 6 months...

hypothetical situations don't help but what does 4.2 really bring???? For the GNex is drastically reduced SOD but the Z doesn't have that issue.
If Sony turned around and asked and promised 4.2 next week OR 4.3 in 6 months I would take 4.3.
That said without a change log Who knows what 4.3 brings it may just be as useless at 4.2

But a hypothetical situation is what this thread is based on. Realistically it's a case of sit back and enjoy the handset as it is until Mr Sony pushes us an update. Some people are getting stressed out about updates. Frankly if it's not in my hands. I'm not worried about it. Just my opinion.

To be honest, XZ has "no use" for 4.2 - by this I mean there are no features worth the hype in it, and honestly I only hope for it to include core OS bugfixes and some XZ-specific fixes like WiFi performance etc.
We always looking for Somin which isn't Even out.... How much of 4.2 have you used?

There seems to be quite a few articles online saying that the Xperia Z is going to be one of the first devices to get KLP.. They even write it in a 'shocked' manner which I guess based on Sony's update history is rather appropriate.

Just read the articles. Might this as well indicate that Sony might be the next Nexus manufacturer?

This brings back "2.1 to 2.2" update we faced with our beloved X10
Sony Ericsson back then did skip Frozen Yoghurt and jumped right onto Gingerbread..
I'm not sure if this is the case though because they have been working on 4.2 and it's not easy to scrap all the hard work and start all over again
