[Q] What is system volume

So in various widgets that let you control volumes there is:
- Ringer
- Notification
- Media
- Alarm
- Voice Call
- System (What is this and when is it used?)
PS: Im on stock 2.2.1 FRG83D
i don't have an answer to your question but i have a very similar question. do you know how to unlink ringer and notification ringtone levels?

Yes, Settings > Sound > Volume > Use incoming call volume for notifications
Thank you very much haha. That was so easy I feel stupid. Sorry I couldn't answer your question.

I'm pretty sure Google Navigation used to use the System volume, but it doesn't seem to anymore. Now I think it's only used for keyboard sounds.
Also used for the shutter sound in camera
Thanks man, works for the camera shutter. But has no effect on the volume rocker making noise when adjusting volume.

Right. It shouldn't, should it? It doesn't make sense to use a volume for that sound other than the volume of the channel that the button is changing.
I was looking for a way to mute the volume rocker. I am using NoLock app so I don't have the lock screen sound on/off feature so I am using the rocker and hold down, to go to vibrate but if i want to go back, it makes a noise.

[Q] gmail notification no longer vibrates

I just noticed this morning that whenever I get a new email, only the notification sound plays. The vibration no longer happens. I do have vibrate set to "always" in the volume setting, and also in the labels notification options in gmail.
Does anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it?
I installed Volume control app from the android market last nite. Not sure if that did anything but tried uninstalling it and still the vibration is not working.
Haptic feedback still works.
Never mind, I figured it out. Volume control did messed things up. I downloaded another volume app, Volume Manager. It's got a setting for vibrate on notifications and that's disabled.
Apparently when Volume control installs it disables certain things by default and has does not provide a way to re-enable it.

Ringtone profiles dosent work

I have problems with not working ringtone profiles. They dosent work at all. When i want to change volume, I have to use side buttons. Its only way to switch volume. I have this problems on all official software versions.
and just what is it that you would you want your phone to do to have a working ringtone profile? you can assign a different ringtone to each contact, and a picture as well. if you can't specify the ringtone volume level for each contact it doesn't mean it is not working. it's just that phone software doesn't support that function, and i see no use for that since you can chose no ringtone at all for a desired contact. and what's wrong with using side buttons? you want on screen volume slider? is it really necessary?
I mean that when Im switching profiles (normal, vibrations or silent mode) nothing is changing and sound volume dosent change. I have to use side buttons to turn down volume, and some times it dosent work corretly (e-mail notifications are always loud)...
Next, I cant turn down email notifications... All ringtones are set down manualy but email notifications are loud and are driving me crazy at night...

[Q] Use volume buttons to ONLY change notification volume

I have unlinked my notification and ringer volume via gravitybox, now I would like to switch the volume keys to control my notification volume and ONLY my notification volume. I have searched for hours and all I have found where ways to link ringer and notification volumes, I do not want this and I do not want to use any timer app or anything, just a simple remap for my keys.

Possible to have vibration on notification ?

It's hard to understand why there is no LED on the Nokia 8, not necessarily a color one like on my trusty Lenovo P2, even a white one would do the trick for notifications...
Anyway I don't like audio on notifications so I was hoping to have the phone vibrate but that doesn't seem possible, am I missing something ? Thanks for any help !
Just turn Notification/Phone ring Volume to 0 should be vibration only

That would also mute phone rings, which I doubt OP wants.
@webvan You can manually turn of notification sounds for each app by long-pressing an app icon and tap: App Info -> App notifications -> Messages -> Sound -> None.
Thanks, yes I'd still like the phone to ring !
Will try the app by app setting.
ok so I tried that method and you can indeed dig into the notifications and when they are set to a high or above importance you can activate "vibrate" and deactivate "sounds". Thanks !

Seems crazy that 10 years into Android development there is no option to only make your phone vibrate when a notification arrives instead of making a sound !

May I ask what apps you are trying to turn off sound notifications? For Instant Messaging apps like Viber, Signal, Telegram, etc. I can easily turn the sound notification OFF and leave the vibration option ON. Some apps don't have those options simply because they don't send and/or display notifications.
It's strange to hear you can't do that. Try exploring all the options around the Notification Settings in each app.
Oops, had edited my message in the meantime! Yes I found that the trick is to set importance of the notification to high or above to get control of the sound+vibration settings. All good now!
