[Q] a web community dedicated only to phablets, and phablet related applications? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone!
I am not so sure if this is the right place to ask but would anyone feel the need to have a site dedicated for Phablets?
:good:If you answered YES what would you personally like to see on the site?
I'm looking to create a community where people can find everything there is to know about Phablets, where developers can post up any Phablet related apps or roms they may have created.
P.S volunteers are welcomed! shoot me a PM

God I hate that word. Phablet, how stupid is that (not the op's fault). But it gets even worse. Do you know what it's called in German? Smartlet as a combination of smartphone and tablet. God, please send brain...
Back to topic: I don't really see the need for a dedicated community for the Note and Note 2 (the only devices in that class). In fact the two devices are simply bigger smartphones. They use the same os as every Android phone out there, the same apps... They don't even run in tablet mode. So since there is no need for a dedicated community for small smartphones I don't see a need for creating one for big phones. But if you think creating a community would be helpful feel free to do so. It adds another source of information which is always a good thing.

This doesn't make sense to me. Is this supposed to unite the psychic community to pull together and find my lost cat? Or channel the Remote Viewers to lock on to his position?
No way, this did work..... See reunion on Opera soon! BTW, I'm going to vote now! Thanks....

[Poll] New "Android only" forum?

Sorry for posting this here, but I couldn't really find a suitable place since most of the Android action is right here.
These past weeks I've noticed an increase of irrelevant threads and clutter being made in regards to Android development in the HTC Dream forum and every other Android development forum on xda. A lot of Android devices out on the market now are not made by HTC. This of course is causing a problem since this forum is for HTC devices only.
Maybe it would be a good idea if a new forum was created that accounts for all native Android devices (Motorola Droid/Milestone, Motorola Cliq/Dext, Samsung Galaxy, etc...). That way, a lot of the clutter would surely be resolved and a considerate load would be taken off of this server (Gotta hate the horrible load on xda these days...).
I'm sure there are quiet a few people on here that have an HTC device and are fully satisfied with it (Me included!). That doesn't mean that everyone else has to feel the same way. People that choose to go with Samsung, Motorola, etc. for their next Android device should not be left out. That's why I believe there should definitely be a forum that serves everyone.
To put up a new forum specifically for this matter takes no time at all, but it does take participation. So if you feel like this is something you would like to see, please feel free to leave a comment.
What are you're opinions on this matter? Agree? Disagree?
Discuss.
EDIT: If there's enough people interested in this project, would there be anyone willing to help getting things started in terms of hosting space or something similar?
my thoughts are that the few changes that have been recently made should help if they are utilized. now we have a forum for general android development for devs, and the rom releases are in the device specific forums. Here was my idea, but i think they made the right choice. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4795376&postcount=1

It's a start. But I don't think xda is going to put up more sub forums for each new device out there. Thus, development and ROM threads for Motorola and other devices will be left out. Unless I understood your post incorrectly
no, you're right, i just dont think xda WANTS to keep up with every brand that uses android. they apparently keep their focus on HTC devices. there are gonna be a FLOOD of manufacturers utilizing droid in the future, and unless xda wants to change their focus, they will stick with one brand

Yea that's exactly my point.
There WILL be a flood of Android devices from all kinds of manufacturers and it would be nice if there was a place for all of them come together. That way, everyone can keep track of specific development without having to switch between dozens of forums.
My $0.02.
good luck, my friend. Most likely it will take someone to else to start a new site to accomplish. funny, i was fooling around a couple days ago and did this. http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?gid=176593179336&v=wall
not saying this is the solution, but you are not alone in your concerns.
I see that a few agree with me, care to share your point of view? Maybe it will spark this thing.

Creating a ROM selection guide using hunch.com

hey guys, thought id open this up for collaboration, I started guide that will help beginners determine what ROM to install and if they have what they need to begin the process.
In 10 questions or less, Hunch will offer you a great solution to your problem, concern or dilemma, on hundreds of topics. Hunch's answers are based on the collective knowledge of the entire Hunch community, narrowed down to people like you, or just enough like you that you might be mistaken for each other in a dark room. Hunch is designed so that every time it's used, it learns something new. That means Hunch's hunches are always getting better.

Good idea, but could use some work. I feel like it had too little questions to judge which rom would be best for me.

Why my threads are closed?????

There is no freedom to talk in these forums, guess u people are making stuff resticted to those who just came here to flash roms.
No space for improvement i guess. Some narcissistic people are willing to make this forum like the symbian forum which is now closed forever.
When there is a question posted, wait for the reply before closing it atleast.
Some hopeless blind followers are not letring the critics do their work. I will keep on saying that google is forcing users to use their services.
If u wanna close my thread close it but dont expect that u can easily shut me up. I will share my thoughts to some place else.
Truth is always bitter.

I agree, some of the mods should be fired.
There is freedom of speech if it is of use to the android platform..but why complain and make a fuss to people who have choosen android as there preferred format I'm sure there are different forums to rant if your not happy with your phone but this one is mostly used for useful information to benefit the note community and development..

If google is willing to make it better then they should implement things i am suggesting for tizen in their android.
Its plain and simple they are making basic functionality compromized even with such a great hardware due to poor piece of codes. My dialer pad opens slow, keyboard lags, wifi signal drops even a cheap nokia does these things in a flash. When i am suggesting how to improve people are making fun of me. Thats sad.
Constructive criticism should always be taken with open heart.
For a general user beside installing a seperate keyboard and launcher modify notification menu what else is there? Nothing this is simple customization.
Widgets are not androids stuff, old nokia started widget fashion so i would not credit android for that.

Buddy don't take things about ur phone to bad I don't think there will ever be a perfect phone whatever platform..what they fix for somthing it will always make somthing else worse for sombody else but that's what I personally like about android its so customizable so if ur not happy with ur keyboard there are loads of third party apps in the market..and I think thats why the big companies like samsung know this and try and concentrate more on hardware more than software..

So what does google have to do with mods here closing your threads ??
Anyways, if you don't understand then ask the mod in question to explain.
Well, I would guess your threads are being closed because they don't fit the forum you are posting in. You are in a Q&A for the N7000, help and troubleshooting but your subject has nothing to do with the N7000, troubleshooting or help. Maybe post in the General Section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=256
Perhaps OP you can share with us the threads that are closed?
Let me go through the list:

Posted a flame baiting thread about Samsung and Galaxy Note on the Nexus 4 forums
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2131892
Same thing in the Nexus 4 forums. Angsty unconstructive post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2097327
Another defiant post again on the same thing, does not contribute to anything except flame baiting
There you go OP,
now please counter each point instead of being obscure.
Go PM the mod if you are unhappy.
P.S.
I'm requesting that your thread be closed.
Well first the flame burning post because, soon N4 users will feel cheated. Google is cheating them by giving them something which is just a mirage. U can see the issues in that forum about their phones ehich theyvare encountering just after 2 months.
N4 users posted such flame burning threads on our forums, they then started abusing and showing racism on someones views.
xda is not loyal to any one company, so if we feel that google is monopolizing at one front we have the right to say it.
There are many topics which i started and were closed and after a few days someone else posted the same things and are still active.
These topics are posted in general discussions with no intention to disturb the development on any front.
Lastly we have to admit that via these web services we are compromising our data on daily basis and making specific tech giants more powerful and their data servers artificially intelligent day by day. I dont want them to sell us our data in future.
A clear example is youtube. Our data made comercially available to us. Sorry if u will just want to blow their trumpet and make us go in the ditch.
Today another user posted the same thing in N4 forum which i said 2 days ago and my topic was closed.
Another user on N4 shared the same opinion that we are forced to use google services, being android users.
In all the topics i posted just tell me where i was wrong.

qazibasit, I was not aware of your other closed threads. I did not close them. You were PM'd by the Senior Moderator who closed. So hopefully that answers the question you pose by creating this thread, which is also pointless.
I fail to see the "point" of the thread I closed. Your thread was just a complaint. XDA is slowly filling up with "complaints" of all manners. XDA is and always will be focused on development, not just of Android, but all platforms that enable us to better our devices.
What in your thread I closed, allows us (the XDA community) to improve Android? Why post them here? Why not submit them to the AOSP I provided you with a link for? If you are not prepared to attempt to fix the "problem" you have no foundation to make any complaint about it.
Google do not charge you to use their services or features, nor do they make you use them. You decided to buy an Android handset. If your unhappy about that, then that is your decision. When you buy a new handset, buy iOS, Windows Phone, Blackberry, there is choice, you just made the wrong one.
If anyone has an issue with the standard of moderation from any moderator please contact the Moderator Committee (in confidence) with your concerns.
Lastly before the "Freedom of Speech" card is played. XDA is not a democracy, nor do you have any right of freedom of speech here. You all agreed to the rules XDA expects all users to follow. You should also read this. http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/ilaw/Speech/
Sad to say it, but Thread Closed.

Note 8 Device Counter!

Lets start a counter in this forum and let devs know about popularity of this device so we can get good AOSP rom etc as fast as possible!
"+1" from my side
+1
+1
+1
+1
+1 for me and another +1 for my cousin who's not in xda
Really pointless thread. If you've followed any of the other AOSP request threads, you'll know that it's a very complicated and involved task. Amassing "+1" posts isn't going to motivate anyone more to take on such a task.
On a more personal note, I don't know why someone would buy a device like the Note 8 just to strip it of all of its features. Personally, I bought my device because of all the features Samsung has put on it. I wouldn't put AOSP on this, likely even if someone paid me, because it would defeat the purpose of having this device in the first place.

If you think that way you shouldn't be on XDA then, development is main thing we discuss here. Giving support to Dev in any way concerned will help them!

We all have different opinions and preferences, so I think we all belong here. Of course support for devs is always welcome, but a +1 thread may not be the most effective way to go about getting what you want...They can already see the view count on aosp-related threads after all. Maybe try reaching out directly instead.

Well, devs, I think, try to develop roms to attain a better experience, adding some features, taking out some not very popular ones, in general to make the overall performance better, as Max Terrible here stated, buying a note series device to strip it down of ALL the features that make it what it is, in my opinion, is pointless, to that effect, you should get a pixel device, clean pure android out of the box

Do explain to me how having a thread full of people posting +1 to try and convince a dev to make an AOSP ROM, is considered supporting the dev?
I definitely support the devs and the great work they do on here, but recruiting a mob to basically create a petition for someone to do something you want, is not what I define as support.
I assure you, any and all devs working on the Note 8 are aware of the very, very small group of people that want an AOSP ROM.

There would be lot of people who dont upgrade mobile regularly (may be 6 months) some upgrade after 2 years. And u might be knowing samsung way of updates so aosp rom etc is very help to have a taste of latest updates. I know only note special things wont be working but many extra things u will get in these roms. Till now we are not able to use gcams! This shows development for this rom. Intent of this thread was to see popularity of this device and let dev see the demand:laugh:
Thanks for +1 people! Lets go guys!!
